Black eyed peas, fresh fried pork rinds, deviled eggs, crawfish dip... this is where I would have spent my food budget had I known. We stayed at the Doubletree this restaurant is attached to the weekend of 8/16 and visited the bar and restaurant several times, so I did not get photos of everything we tried. On arrival, we unloaded in our rooms and met downstairs for a drink. I had a Bulleit Rye Old Fashioned and my friend enjoyed Traveler on ice. 8/10 on the old fashioned Next morning, we met there for breakfast. I was not looking to spend much on breakfast, and I found that you can build your own breakfast sandwich. A BLT cost $4! That's better than McDonald's prices. It was good and large with plenty of bacon. I also had a spicy Bloody Mary, and while I do love spicy bloody Mary's, I couldn't quite finish this one off. 7/10 On Saturday night after the game, we all met for late night drinks and dinner. We got several things for the table and shared most of it. All of it was really pretty good, I actually forgot to take a picture of my delta club but it was stacked high and on point. I also had a drink called The Devereaux which had spiced rum, pineapple, cinnamon, vanilla, and red wine. Yes, it sounds weird but it was very good and I am going to try to recreate it back home. One of the highlights from the table was the pimiento cheese and "firecrackers" which were seasoned saltines. Sitting at the bar, the bartender was friendly and attentive but overworked. I had a nice lunch here! I just wanted to stop by for a simple sandwich and the Mama Rue hit the spot! A bacon grilled cheese with pimento cheese, it was a crunchy cheesy delight! The fries were also crispy with a delicious seasoning. The restaurant is huge and even though I was here during lunch on Saturday it was mostly empty. The Case of the Great Breakfast Caper. Attached to the Doubletree. An All-Around restaurant. Came in for a lite breakfast and to be honest I just didn't want to walk a few blocks to a great coffee shop I've been to before. (I should have listened to my inner self). I ordered a Delta Sunrise. Two eggs over easy with grits, crisp bacon and wheat toast. And coffee. Simple enough right? Coffee came Hot. Which is a requirement to mask bad hotel coffee. Once my food arrived, I should have left. 1 out of 2, 50% or not half bad; is what I saw with a broken egg. To top it off? Literally? Was two freshly placed jelly pods on the broken yolk. So I can say a couple of things with certainty. This plate passed at least two sets of hands before I saw it, four eyes, two brains; you get the idea. And yet nothing registered before presenting this as a viable order. I was already drinking my coffee and for some reason I was not using the handle. After a drink I placed down the cup and saw black on the handle. What's that? I pulled out my Detective Cap and saw finger prints!! Oh, crap we need to solve this case!! The plot thickens. I waved down a server to identify the object and to have the cup sent in for evidence. A new cup of Hot Crappy Hotel Coffee came to my relief. At least something was reliable. After the servers spoke it was determined an ink pen broke. This discovery was AFTER I was served my breakfast. Case notes: Not any attention to detail. Mr. Al and Mr.Tommy took my takeout order or chicken Wings and a salad late Wednesday afternoon after arriving in Memphis. Their service was very friendly and welcoming! The chicken wings were excellent even after returning to the hotel where they had cooled down.I think celery and carrots were supposed to be included but didn't make the trip. I was surprised to discover it's part of the Double Tree because it looks and feels like a standalone restaurant/bar. The staff is amazing! Best bar staff in the entire city! The food is great from their Delta club, their crawfish pasta, to the soup. A great whiskey and beer selection with fair prices. Great atmosphere, great food, great staff. Surprisingly amazing food at this hotel adjacent spot. The chicken fried chicken sure is something special- it's juicy, crunchy and perfect salty goodness. My MIL had a delicious club sandwich that she raved about and it was a rather large portion with seasoned fries. Can't wait to be back for the chicken! Our server was also super bubbly and friendly and even ran after us as we forgot my baby's bib. So sweet of him! Visited Memphis and stayed at the Doubletree. Had drinks, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Would recommend.

REGULAR DRINK REFILLS ARE NOT FREE. The food was good and bad at the same time. Based only because of personal preference more than anything else. For example, the salad was great! But instead of regular boiled eggs chopped up and added to it the cooks had (2) Deviled Eggs placed on the side of the salad. The deviled eggs "took away" from the salad rather than "adding" to what was already a great dish. But again some people may enjoy that more than others. Side note: there was also (2) pieces of Pickled Okra in the salad. The atmosphere was a lot more "Barish" than what my wife and I would have preferred because we would rather a quieter atmosphere. But the hotel that the King and Union Bar is attached to (DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Memphis Downtown) gave us a $15 credit per-person to the Restaurant. The Ranch Dressing is really great so they have that going for them! The Service was mediocre. We saw the waitress a total of (4) times throughout the course of the meal. My wife ordered a House Salad with fried Chicken. I ordered the Ribeye Steak with grilled Asparagus, Macaroni and Cheese, and the Pimento Cheese bread. The steak was slightly over seasoned but the sides were all very good. In my unprofessional opinion I should really give this restaurant a (2) Star Rating because of the service, atmosphere, price of the food, and quality of some of the food. ALSO, the refills are NOT FREE. That being said; all in all we were able to make the best of the situation we were in and enjoy the meal rather well. However, because of the food that did taste good and the iconic/ Historic location of the restaurant I'll give it an extra star. This restaurant is part of the Doubletree hotel. The real problem with this place is the management and staff. They brought coffee but the sweetener container was empty. It took three requests to finally get sweetener. This is why I say the issue is with management and staff. It was breakfast. All condiments should be wiped down and containers filled. This wasn't done on any table (I looked for sweetener and didn't have any luck). It's part of the opening or closing process in well run establishments. We asked several times for coffee refills. Finally got one when we were done eating. For the food, we both got the Delta sunrise. I asked for my eggs to be over easy. One was, the other was over hard. The hashbrowns were very greasy. Bacon and biscuit were the best part of the meal. The other guest had eggs sunny side and said both were fine. They also had grits instead of hashbrowns. They said they were a little dry. Really wish I had taken photos because this place is bomb. I had the pork medallions, collard greens, black eyed peas and the pimento cheese biscuit. Everything was so good and cooked perfectly! My mom had the strawberry spinach salad with chicken on top and the blush wine vinaigrette and she marveled and the flavors! I cannot stress how good this food was. We had two meals, ice tea, bread pudding to go and the bill was less than $40!! That is crazy cheap for such amazing food. I will definitely be back! The cocktails here are very creative! Start with one of their special margaritas. We ordered the pimento cheese hush puppies. These were a tad on the greasy side but great for sharing as they are quite heavy. I ordered the shrimp and grits and did not like them they were heavily salted and very spicy. The best thing about this dis was the Maque Choux. I prefer the shrimp and grits at Husk in Charleston or The Foxy Brown in Fort Lauderdale, or my husband's. All the bread was buttered which was such a bonus that not many places do. The fried green tomatoes were big and juicy. Chicken tenders were yummy. It gets a one. Wife had wine, can't mess that up and I had the smoked old fashioned, which is pricey but fantastic. The menu lists it as $16 and you pick the bourbon. When I got the bill, there is a $3 up charge for the Makers. The Charcuterie board was great with the sausage and house made pimento cheese. Now for the more bad. I had the Hey James, which was dry and just a classic cafe style sandwich that cost $13 and no side. I asked for more mustard and she brought out BBQ sauce also because the cook said it was supposed to come on it and might be dry. The wife and daughter had the grilled chicken, which was overcooked and dry as cardboard. I would not recommend this place unless you come to drink and eat appetizers. The service was blah. Once we walked in the host sat us fairly quickly and right next to the host stand- in plain view of everyone. It was about 1030pm and there was a decent amount of people there. We sat and waited our turn to be greeted. 3 mins, 4 mins, 5 mins go by and nothing. There was at least 3 servers and maybe a bartender or manager that walked past our table over and over. We watched 2 groups came in and were greeted- and we sat there. After about 15 mins of being ignored (and that's actually being generous with time estimate) we walked out with no one saying a word. This was my third visit and my most disappointing. I always order the chicken and waffles and the past two times, the meals was perfect and delicious. Today was a different story. I should've known what was up when I walked and no one else was in the restaurant on an early Sunday afternoon. I was seated in a booth, which I prefer, and my order was placed quickly. This time, though, the chicken was not the fully golden brown deliciousness I was used to. The waffle was rubbery and pretty much inedible and the fruit was an abomination I would not have served to my dog. Attached to the Doubletree hotel, the King & Union Bar Grocery is a restaurant, bar, and well, a bit of a grocery (just some basic snacks available). I popped in here for an early dinner to go (didn't want to leave the furry critter by himself for too long). I ordered the meatloaf and had the option of two sauces (red or brown). Being a big fan of gravy, I went with the brown. Two sides were offered, but I just wanted the taters (mashed, that is). The gal taking my order asked if I wanted gravy on the potatoes too, and I looked at her like, 'Doesn't everyone?' They gave me an extra scoop of taters instead of an additional side. I also ordered a side of hush puppies (shut my mouth, they were fabulous) for an additional $2. I had a bit of a wait, but it gave me a chance to just wander around a bit. Sports games available on the TVs at the bar. I took my bag of food back to my room. Upon opening the container I discovered an enormous slab of meatloaf, slathered in gravy. "Hell ya!" I said to myself (probably too loud since I woke the dog up). The meal was heavenly! Those hushpuppies were amazing on their own, or dipped in the gravy. It was the only place open in downtown Memphis!! Big winter storm of 2021 shut Memphis down! There were only 2 employees working and boy did they hustle!!! I had the Club and it was excellent. C had the catfish sandwich and it was also very good. I had the French onion soup as well, it was the dark think kind, I like mine more brothy and piping hot! My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Doubletree during our recent trip to Memphis. We woke up on Saturday morning needing some substantial food and caffeine to combat our late night taking in the sights, sounds, and plentiful beverages of Beale Street, so we headed down to this restaurant, for no other reason than it was the closest place. To our absolute delight, the food and service were fantastic! I ordered chicken and waffles and coffee, while he had a breakfast platter and a strawberry-flavored soda. The coffee was delicious and topped off as needed, and the food was all excellent. The servers were so friendly and accomodating as well. I definitely recommend stopping in here regardless of whether you're staying at the hotel. My only wish would be that they'd offer room service so I could have enjoyed it all in bed. Lol read more

We went strolling through Memphis tonight (Sunday, 06/26/21). Saw this place's menu on the outside and thought we'd check it out. Walked in and were greeted by a polite gentleman who directed us to a booth and asked for our patience as they were short-staffed. No problems - we get it. Our waitress came over to take our drink orders and asked if we'd like the bar menu. We declined and just ordered tea. It was fantastic tea! If you're a tea-drinker, you get it... you can just tell if it'll be good from the color. This was fantastic - Off to a great start! Wife ordered chicken & waffles. She will order that (no matter what) if it's offered anywhere. Periodt. I ordered the Ark-La-Miss with fries. It was a fried catfish sandwich with lettuce, red onions, marinated tomatoes, and comeback sauce on a toasted brioche bun. Holy yum!! I could've eaten my weight in those tomatoes - so good!!! I would have loved more of the sauce but that sandwich was terrific! Disclaimer: I only had one bite of the actual sandwich but ate all the "insides" due to my stomach surgery. We will return before we leave. I want to purchase some firecrackers and other food items from their grocery area. 10/10 Oh! Wife said her chicken & waffles was great as well.
