Food was very bland. Server took a phone call & walked outside in the middle of me requesting something. We order a breakfast entree that came with a biscuit & ordered an extra biscuit. When the extra one didn't come she said they had to hand make more.. why didn't you make them with the first biscuit? Don't waste your time - overpriced- and terrible. An $11 Caesar salad with warm wilted lettuce and add your own dressing will fit on a plate the size of the palm of your hand. So many great restaurants in the area they would be better served to open this up to hotel guest as a lounge area. read more

Everything about this place screams eat here and come back and try everything on the menu!!! If you visit downtown Baton Rouge and do not experience a breakfast or dinner here, you did yourself a disservice. Chef Trish, Danielle, Chef Phillipe and the rest of the team have created incredible dishes that will blow you away with the range of flavor. The design and interior is over and above most things Baton Rouge, yet the local flavor added to even a simple dish will make you want to return the very next day to try the breakfast. At least that was my experience. I stayed at the Hilton across the steeet for a long weekend and did not get to dine there once. My next trip to BTR will be booked at Hotel Indigo and I cannot wait to try more of the menu. Must try's are: Chef Trish's potato creation and Chef Philippe's Wild Boar (invasive species) Gumbo. I'm so thankful for the dining experiences and even for purchasing Chef Phillipe's book while he was there and having it signed. I feel like I experienced the greatest thing in Downtown BTR, simply by walking across the street and chatting with Chef Trish on the bench outside and again seeing Danielle outside another morning. I've never left a review like this and if I had better vocabulary, it would be more polished. Thanks again for the many dining experiences in just a few short days. read more

This is the bar in the Hotel Indigo and it's nice. I got a French 75 made with Tito's Vodka instead of gin and it was good. Definitely needed more bubbly though. Sadly , there were no bubbles. But I loved the opportunity of getting a nightcap before bed. read more

They advertise their burger as "the best in the wild"....WOW! How shameless! The patty was dry and there is NOTHING, literally nothing else. Bread was sour. And when I asked the serve to give me veggie instead of fries, he kindly noted and still gave me the fries and then disappears for half an hour. The pros: The look of this place is very nice. Sleek, contemporary, inviting. I also suspect they mix a good drink based on the reviews and the well-stocked bar. But we only had beer and wine so we can't comment on that. The cons: No one greeted us so we didn't know whether to seat ourselves or not until the bartender finally said we could. They couldn't find menus so they had run some off on a computer - which was fine. If they had not told us they were missing menus, we'd be none the wiser. Initially things were fine while we waited for a friend. Then we tried to order. My friend has a dietary issue and we couldn't get a straight answer on her menu choice - whether it had sesame seeds in it or not. The waitress commented that "this place" wouldn't have something too great. Then my friend tried to order a burger instead and our waitress was excited - said they were the best in Baton Rouge. Until she came back and said no one had prepared any so they couldn't do burgers. Finally she ordered gumbo. I got a turkey wrap (which came with nothing - no fries or chips) and our other friend got the crawfish pie appetizer. We were more than halfway through the wrap and the gumbo before the crawfish pies arrived - and they were clearly frozen pies that come in a box. I'm sure I've had them at home. It shouldn't have taken so long. I will admit they took that off the menu. We also ordered more drinks and she tried to take my glass of wine before it was empty. When we were ready to pay, we couldn't get her to come take our money so we finally went to the cash register and she struggled to figure out how to split between cards and cash. I think our waitress is probably a very nice person but waitressing isn't her long-term future. read more

This is on the ground floor of the newly opened Hotel Indigo. I can't speak for the hotel, since I didn't lodge there, but I did stop in for drinks. My Elderflower-Pear martini was divine, with St. Germaine, Grey Goose, and a bit of chardonnay. It was just the right amount of sweetness. Our bartender, Steven, was attentive and chatted with us. He even served us two rounds of shots without prompting--I think one of them was an experiment of his, with vanilla vodka. A group of rowdy and already buzzed customers came in after us and he handled them admirably, and was just as courteous with them as he was with everyone else. I was underdressed (in jeans and sneakers) for this classy establishment, but still felt welcomed and at ease. You've got to try the Elderflower-Pear martini. read more

Well what a night! First I'd like to start by saying the look of the restaurant and the waiter/bar man is the only reason this place got 2 stars. Where do I begin....not that hungry so decide to have the crawfish toast with a side of fries. The fries and toast look great on yelp. Fries were greasy and the crawfish toast was french bread sprinkled with cheese and a couple of dry shriveled up crawfish on top. I tried a bite and decided to eat one piece of french bread to be sure it's what I tasted. I knew it was going to be bad based on how it looked. Dry, with cheese and strong smelling crawfish. I sent it back and then the chef got Hppy and sent out another version, with more geese and maybe some butter on the bread to make it soft. I ate 3 pieces because I was hungry and didn't want to have to walk somewhere else in snow! Yup that's right, snowing in BTR! Meomi red was warm and served in a beer glass! I will start by saying we were a table of locals with out of town parents that bought vouchers on restaurant.com. King Bar would get 4 stars. King Bistro would only get 2. The overall experience was a 2.5-3. It took almost an hour to get 6 orders of fried chicken breast and potatoes to our table. When the plates arrived it was basically overpriced Canes, except that Canes is better. The one really delicious portion of the meal was the crawfish bread. Had we arrived and just ordered drinks and the crawfish bread we would have been elated. The staff was nice, polite, and apologetic. read more

I had the Strawberry Salad and split serving of the Seafood Gumbo. (I had to ask since they do not have a cup listed and they said no problem.) Very nice presentatioe, service and the atmosphere is crisp and bright. New Hotel and the bar is rounded marble comfortable to eat at. read more

The food and service were disappointing. We decided to eat there since we were staying at the hotel and the reviews that were posted before were positive. The food was mediocre and overpriced for what we got. I do not recommend the BBQ shrimp. It was terrible. The filet came burnt on the outside. The seasoned nuts were very good, but the other appetizers were just OK. The cheese selection is disappointing. The salads were great.. Te panini was just so so. Also the hotel guests are constantly walking through the restaurant to go out a side door Good for people watching maybe, but does not make for great dining experience. (Note: The first star is for the quality of the food that I actually got to taste and the second is for the attentiveness of the waitress.) I visited the Indigo Hotel's King Bar & Bistro for the first time this evening because I had a Louisiana Deals Voucher. I ordered a Long Island iced tea which was ok (more sours than needed to make it taste like lemon iced tea, but ok) and their "Indigo Savory Steak, with compound butter, zesty crispy onions and covered in house-made steak sauce." The waitress (service was excellent, by the way; none of this was her fault) brought me a salad, which I wasn't expecting and let me know that the steak also came with fries. When the steak and fries arrived, the fires were very "pretty" and fine, but there was no compound butter (whatever that is), no zesty crispy onions, no house-made steak sauce, no nothing on the steak (which was cooked to order and had no fat, gristle, etc.). When I asked about this, the poor waitress apologized and said that she would go get these for me. She returned even more apologetic and said that all they had was BBQ sauce. Meanwhile, to use up the $50 voucher, I ordered a cider-something pork chop (I neglected to take a picture of the menu description) to go. I didn't look at it while there, but when I got it home it was lacking at least mushrooms (according to what I remember of the menu description). To finish using up the voucher, I ordered their chocolate chip cookie sundae ("covered with hot fudge, caramel sauce, and chopped nuts) for dessert. The waitress returned, apologizing for the fact that they were out of ice cream and asking if I would accept several cookies in lieu of the hot fudge, caramel sauce and ice cream. She was so apologetic that I agreed. While waiting, a man who appeared to be a manager opened the blinds near me so I asked him if the Indigo Hotel was a chain. He told me that it was the "boutique" hotel of a group of IHG hotels, so I asked him why the "boutique" IHG hotel would be out of butter and ice cream. I let him know that this was my first visit and that I was just checking out the Bistro since I had the voucher. He immediately gave me his card (Jeremy Plater, Hotel Night Manager) told me that he would speak to the chef and take care of, and I quote, "winning me back." When I went to pay the check, I was expecting to have to insist on paying for everything but the steak, but that wasn't necessary because Jeremy Plater's idea of "winning me back" was to take 25% off of the total, which was $5.00 less than the cost of the steak. Before paying the check, I had the waitress remove the cookies, because she told me that there would be a 30 minute wait while they baked them!!! When I asked at the main desk to speak to the Hotel Night Manager again, they paged him but learned that he had left the premises. They told me that he should be back in 30 minutes or so, but I told them never mind. If I wasn't going to wait for them to bake cookies, I certainly wasn't going to wait for Mr. Plater. read more

Ulysses is the man! Incredibly friendly and always ready to make an amazing amaretto sour. Great open atmosphere with lots of seating and military friendly. Recommend the sit down breakfast if your decide to eat in the morning. The prepared meals for lunch/dinner are spot on! read more

We stayed at the hotel across the street on a recent visit. Downtown is a a nice little area, but the coffee shops open relatively late in the morning. We got into the habit of walking here in in the morning - usually for coffee, a couple times for breakfast. The woman who helped us was fantastic - this review is primarily for her. Run, don't walk, to this newly opened restaurant and bar before others discover its great food and good prices and you can't get in. The friendly staff is just the icing on the cake. Our waiter recommended the bbq shrimp and cheese grits and they were superb. The gumbo was some of the best I've ever had, and the ceasar salad was very good too. We ended our meal with the pecan pie which was scrumptious and a cup of their great coffee. We're going back tomorrow for breakfast. read more
