I came here for lunch one day a few weeks back after hearing so many good reviews. The service was very fast and kind, my brother and I were sat and left within about 45 min. There were many items on the menu that seemed very tasty, but we each decided to try the daily special which was Creamy Cajun Pasta with garlic bread. The specials change every day and it is rare if the special occurs twice within the same month, they are so creative. Now I am a big lover of pasta in general and I was not expecting this dish to be so packed with flavor. My brother and I each ate our entire meal without speaking much to each other or taking a sip to drink. I was that good! After I had finished I actually contemplated licking the bowl clean of sauce but I decided not to since we were in public, wow! Overall it was a great experience and I cannot wait to go back here and try many of their other dishes! read more

I've been to King Cropp twice now because of the specials they posted on Facebook! We went once for dinner for the shrimp & grits, and let me tell you... that stuff was off the chain! I lived in the Low Country for 9 years, and this was some of the best shrimp & grits I've ever eaten!!! My husband doesn't even like grits and even he cleaned his bowl! Outstanding! The following week, they posted Sloppy Joes for the lunch special, and I could not resist. The Sloppy Joe was perfect. It was tangy and saucy and messy, but it was worth every calorie! I chose Creamy Mac & Cheese as my side, and it was better than Mom's!!! Shhh... don't tell her I said that! I check them every day now to see what specials they have. We visited after the recent menu change to become my re Alpha Gal friendly. There were four fish options and no pork but chicken fried and pulled. We ordered the daily drink specials and also fried pickles, the daily food special and no dessert. The drinks were tasty libations that complemented the meal. The fried pickles were too brined. They were extra sour and my face puckered up. Later in the evening my leg ewes swollen with edema, a sign of heavy sodium intake. Be cautious, if you have dietary restrictions. Next, the meal. It was a fried chicken tender on a brioche bun with lettuce and tomatoes and mayo and the salty pickles. The presentation of the meal was outstanding! The taste balance was off, the sandwich would have been better grilled because it had too much breading with the bun. The macaroni and cheese was average. Overall, I would rate this meal as average and three stars. It is not a bad meal it is not an extraordinary meal. It is average. The ambiance of the patio and the service were exceptional. The drinks were superior. The pinto beans were superior. I just wish you had more options for folks who like beef and pork. read more

Found this restaurant through Yelp as needed something for a nice dinner while in the area. King Cropp did not disappoint. Varied menu, good options for vegetarians, low carb and gluten free eaters! With all the hype, I thought this would be an outstanding place. The reviews were off the charts. So I booked a table for six for friends visiting from Europe. SHOCK! We all ordered different entrees in order to get a real taste of the restaurant. NOTHING could be rated even mediocre. It was a huge disappointment. The salads were passable, but certainly nothing special. The waiter was earnest, and we tipped 25% because he was courteous and service-minded. But that tip had NICHTS to do with the food. Great little restaurant/cafe with a relaxed atmosphere and an amazing variety of choices. Many are gluten free and vegetarian/ vegan. The sandwiches are large and very tasty. Gluten free fried chicken nuggets were juicy and flavorful. The best dish at our table was sesame cauliflower. It was is tempura fried with a red pepper chili sauce. King cropp (the gods of spell checker wouldn't allow me to enter their real name) just opened in a location that has a long history of failed greasy spoons . The location is great, but the now-closed hotel next door imbued the air with a troubling entrance. But that's history, and the King cropp is a great new addition to the resurgence of Main st. They've done a great job of purging the linoleum tables (see pic) and creating a completely new atmosphere. The menu challenges your ideas of traditional staples. I had an "Appalachian " Reuben, with pulled pork instead of corned beef!?! The lunch menu includes a divine Mac 'n cheese, and a wide selection. I have a copy of the dinner menu, which includes everything from scallops to steak to tortellini. They use locally sourced ingredients and I assure you the experience will be completely different from any preconceptions you have formed from previous restaurants at this location. Being from the area, I did not have high expectations. I know that sounds horrible, but I've been let down by so many places before. King Cropp Food did NOT disappoint! We loved the entrees; from the BBQ, to the special, to the soup- it was great. Then the finale- the cake was so large that we split it among 4, then 2 of us took leftovers home! Just got home from an amazing anniversary spent at King Crop's new location. We couldn't stop raving about the food. My gf was adamant that we order the sesame cauliflower (I dislike cauliflower), and it was fiiiiiiire. The mac and cheese + pulled pork was so dang good if you like sweet and savory. We added the coleslaw side onto it because we love a good ole plate of deliciousness. The chocolate moose was just super creamy and a great way to end the night. All in all the place is beautiful. The bar area is very classy. Our server, Drew, was so dang nice and incredibly attentive to making our night a great experience. I haven't wrote a review in years, but dang this place was good! I hate that has taken so long to get to experience Chris' food again, but this is truly a gem in southern Virginia. There are only a few restaurants that I would put in this same class. There are decent restaurants in Danville. But there is a difference between getting decent or even good food and food that is prepared in a way that truly shows thought, care, and freshness. My husband and I were there last night for our date night. We were immediately greeted and pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. The waitresses were most attentive and refilled our waters more than twice. Their menu offered a great selection of entrees and wines as well. People started to funnel in as we were leaving and it made me so happy to see this new little restaurant in Danville making such a go of it. We are planning to return quite often.
