King Kong Chinese Restaurant is located in Castro Valley. I had eaten here once before, but I was in the area, so I decided to try it out again. There was no indoor or outdoor dining -- just take out. After looking over the menu, I ordered the Curry Beef Stew Lunch Special and the Stir-Fry Rib Eye Steak with Mushroom. After 15 minutes, my food was ready. I recommend the Rib Eye Steak -- it was tender and flavorful. I'll be back when indoor dining is available.

We were in the area in the shopping center. And I sat down to a very unattractive front café with sticky table top. This is not because the varnish is removed. It's because it was dirty, sticky with droplets. As dirty as it seemed, the food was fantastic. And the food itself is two stars. It would be four stars had the place looked aesthetically pleasing. For 1395+ $1.50 for the fried rice or the chow mein noodle, you do not get any soup with your lunch special. This is definitely not the place to take anyone that you're trying to impress. Definitely not! You can, however split the meal into to bring back the value. The price of hot and sour soup, this place really Auto have soup to go with the lunch special. Not cool. The crunchy chicken was fabulous due to the vinegary batter and plentiful sauce. I'll try to load up two pictures for you since there's not a whole lot of lunch special pictures on this yelp. Have a great day.

Followed the yelp reviews and found King Kong Chinese restaurant. It's a hole in the wall Cantonese place but the food is excellent. I've been there twice just to give the food a proper review. Located in a corner of a shopping center with plenty of parking. The decor is minimal but the menu is actually the highlight. The menu is Cantonese with your roast duck, cha shu, and claypots. We have tried the following items: Roasted squab very good and the squab was one of the biggest I have had. Deep Fried salted pork trotters excellent with a crisp skin Crab with egg over pea sprouts large portions Steamed tofu with sea food was ok Pork ribs with smoked meats over rice in a claypot Sea Cucumbers with Japanese tofu tasted excellent small portions of sea cucumbers Beef ribs and papayas claypot great taste the beef ribs were tough Pork meat pie with salted fish claypot over rice was excellent Tip when ordering rice claypot dishes order them first it takes 25 min to make. Service is excellent. Plenty of parking. Prices are very reasonable.

Paid $28 for fried rice and broccoli beef take out. I served my toddler his small serving brocccoli beef and there's wasn't even enough beef left for one person.

I was hungry for Dinner . I had a very rough Saturday . My friends Wife had passed away suddenly . So I checked my Yelp Mobile App and up popped King Kong Chinese Restaurant. I was hoping it had big flavors and it did. I jumped into my Whip Blue thunder and rolled to Castro Valley . I was able to park my Whip right out in front in their Private lot. I rolled in and was Greeted and Seated I was given a Menu and a Cup of Tea . I perused the Menu and Ordered the Combo Fried Rice , Wasabi Chicken and Pork Belly and The Sesame Rib Eye Steak over Braised Tofu. The Wasabi Chicken and Pork Belly Amazing Flavors very Yummy . As well as the Sesame Rib Eye Steak and Tofu very Tender. Fried Rice was nice a Fluffy . I was brought my Bill which I paid by Discover Card . They have a lot of interesting Complex Dish's to Try out. Servers were Friendly and Attentive.

This is NOT your typical Chinese restaurant serving Chinese-American food. Rather, you're more likely to find authentic Hong Kong style food. In the past five weeks, we've been there for dinner three times. Twice, table for two and once with four friends sitting at a round table with a lazy susan for a long leisurely 2-1/2 hour dinner. Of the dishes that I know the English names for, we've had: Westlake Beef Soup*** Sizzling Rice Soup**** Stir Fry Prawns with Pumpkin and Egg Yolk **** Wasabi Tossed Chicken with Pork Belly***** Sautéed Spinach with Two Style Eggs* Wasabi Tossed Chicken with Conch**** Catfish in Clay Pot***** Marinated Tofu***** Steam Rice with Bone-in Chicken and Preserved Meat*** Steam Rice with Pork Spare Ribs and Preserved Meat*** There was also a dish that is only served in house (not to go): Deep Fried and Sliced Pig Foot***** There are some large photographs on the walls of some of the dishes. If something looks good, ask about it and maybe even try it! The restaurant is not large and English is not their first language. If it's busy, the kitchen will be a bit slow. Take your time, relax and enjoy a great meal!

Late night grub. When they charge $8.95 for a box of rice it better be good. Bits of salted fish, chicken, and rice stir fried with mix of cabbage, egg, ginger, & seasoning. Made to order. it did not disappoint. You can definitely find cheaper Chinese grub at the scoop and serve steam table joints, but this tastes better. Friendly workers. Online ordering through Yelp a plus. Small dining area can accomodate 20-30ppl. Easy strip mall parking.

This was our first time trying this place out. We ordered through the yelp app and got it delivered. On your order you can pick different ways to pay and we selected 'pay with cash' and when the delivery man arrived he had absolutely no change. And when I say no change I mean he didn't have $1, $5, $10, $20, nothing! That was very annoying. And while we're trying to search for other bills he doesn't even apologize for not having any change and making this a huge inconvenience. I ended up having to search in an old piggy bank for the exact amount. We then open up our bag of food to find no chopsticks. We run outside to see if we can catch him and as he was driving away we asked if he had any chopsticks. What do you think he said? No. Of corse not! We didn't want to eat Chinese food with forks so we got in our car and drove down to the restaurant to get some. Once we get home and can finally eat our food we open the containers up only to find warm food and that one of the containers was filled with so much liquid (water from the vegetables) they it leaked all over the bag and on some of the other containers. We then had to wipe them all off and microwave our plates so we could eat hot food. The food wasn't as good as we thought it would be from a place with such a good yelp rating. There wasn't much flavor in the dishes and the sweet and sour chicken was heavily breaded and somewhat soggy. We also expected a better menu to choose from. The prices aren't crazy but they're too high for what you're getting. Overall we probably won't be back. We'll stick to our usual (and favorite) spot in CV. The food here isn't worth the price and the delivery experience alone left a bad taste in our mouth. Summary of the experience: Paid extra to have food delivered. Selected 'pay with cash' when we ordered. Delivery man shows up with NO change. Had to run around house searching for exact cash. Open up bag to find no chopsticks. Driver has no chopsticks. We had to drive to the restaurant to get chopsticks. Come home to warm food that leaked in bag. Had to microwave food to eat hot. Finally able to eat and disappointed. Not worth it.

    Hot and Sour Soup

Yep, this place is good. What an extensive menu! We will need to come back many times to try all the different offerings. Sweet and Sour soup came with lunch. It was delicious... with a nice heat. It was "Souper" flavorful. The pan fried scallion pancake... very interesting. The flavor was great, but the texture was a little odd. The outside of the pancake was nice and crisp, but the inside was kinda gooey. It was 'stick to my teeth' gooey. While I didn't like the texture, I did enjoy the taste and would order it again. Finally, I ordered the Mongolian Three combination with Chow Mein. Do yourself a favor and get the Chow Mein on the side. So delicious. The meal had a spice to it that left my lips feeling the heat, but it was not spicy hot to the palate. I don't like spicy food. The flavor of this dish was complex and layered. It was spicy, but not in a HOT sort of way. It was seriously good. I want to come back and try some of their more unusual offerings. Check out their menu ahead of time and try to make a decision before showing up because there are a LOT of choices. Yum!

Love the innovative Chinese dishes here and the food was well made. Liked the ox tail stew the most. The soy sauce chow mien was great as our starch. The frog and goose intestine was okay but I never had this combination before so maybe I don't know what constitutes a good version of this dish. The fried pork with strawberries was delicious too. Would have given 5 stars but had a rumbly stomach afterwards.

After a bad experience at a different spot years ago, my family and I gave up on finding good Chinese food out here (originally from the east coast, IYKYK). However, Simon came from out the kitchen and graciously hooked me up with some on the house since it was my first time. We love wonderful customer service over here!! We ordered the braised filet fish with mushrooms and quality was majorly lacking. This is the first time our fish has tasted like it was frozen and then reheated. Servers & restaurant staff were very serious. No pleasantries were expressed when we entered or when we were seated. No smiles on their faces. It felt like that they didn't want to be there! We confirmed by the response to our tea experience. We ordered Jasmine tea for 2. When it arrived in a heavy pot, we let it steep for 2 minutes before we poured it into cups. It was luke warm, slightly warmer than tap water & it tasted like water. We requested that it be replaced. It was taken away by our server with a frown on her face, no apologies. Another server later walked by & explained it would be a couple of minutes. When the pot returned, we put a timer for 3 minutes. Now it was hot, but not tea hot, but still lacking Jasmine flavor. By this time, none of the servers checked in on us about the tea. We finally called our server. She explained that the manager's instructions were to put 1 tsp of tea leaves. If we want it darker, we should steep it longer. We did. That didn't work. Still no tea flavor. She then offered to take it off our tab & walked away. She also informed us other patrons had liked the Jasmine tea. She seemed really angry that we brought the problem of the tea to their attention. For the rest of our dining time, no one approached us. We enjoyed the delicious food but put the tea aside. It wasn't replaced or fixed. It took a while to even get the check. Food is good. Interior design is good. Service needs major improvement.
