I rarely write reviews but I've never eaten anything as disgusting before. Only came because I was exhausted and hungry after work. Ordered half chicken, which their claimed to be a specialty dish. There was no indoor or outdoor dining -- just take out. After looking over the menu, I ordered the Curry Beef Stew Lunch Special and the Stir-Fry Rib Eye Steak with Mushroom. We were in the area in the shopping center. And I sat down to a very unattractive front café with sticky table top. This is not because the varnish is removed. It's because it was dirty, sticky with droplets. As dirty as it seemed, the food was fantastic. And the food itself is two stars. It would be four stars had the place looked aesthetically pleasing. For 1395+ $1.50 for the fried rice or the chow mein noodle, you do not get any soup with your lunch special. This is definitely not the place to take anyone that you're trying to impress. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet - my go-to neighborhood take-out/delivery restaurant is not so cute in person but they pass health inspection and the food is hot and delicious. They make a killer salt and pepper tofu -- my favorite thing on the menu. The broccoli in garlic is a work of art. King Kong offers a wide array of vegetarian/plant-based meats - and every time I get the vegetarian Mongolian "Beef" - I think it's actual meat and have to call and ask them (Hey, it's been a long time since I've seen beef and it seems really beefy to me!). New test: I rinse off a piece and if the cat won't eat it, probably plant based. Tasty food - they'll make it spicy - and very vegan friendly. read more

Followed the yelp reviews and found King Kong Chinese restaurant. It's a hole in the wall Cantonese place but the food is excellent. I've been there twice just to give the food a proper review. Located in a corner of a shopping center with plenty of parking. The decor is minimal but the menu is actually the highlight. The menu is Cantonese with your roast duck, cha shu, and claypots. We have tried the following items: Roasted squab very good and the squab was one of the biggest I have had. Deep Fried salted pork trotters excellent with a crisp skin Crab with egg over pea sprouts large portions Steamed tofu with sea food was ok Pork ribs with smoked meats over rice in a claypot Sea Cucumbers with Japanese tofu tasted excellent small portions of sea cucumbers Beef ribs and papayas claypot great taste the beef ribs were tough Pork meat pie with salted fish claypot over rice was excellent Tip when ordering rice claypot dishes order them first it takes 25 min to make. This was our first time trying this place out. We ordered through the yelp app and got it delivered. On your order you can pick different ways to pay and we selected 'pay with cash' and when the delivery man arrived he had absolutely no change. And when I say no change I mean he didn't have $1, $5, $10, $20, nothing! That was very annoying. And while we're trying to search for other bills he doesn't even apologize for not having any change and making this a huge inconvenience. I ended up having to search in an old piggy bank for the exact amount. We then open up our bag of food to find no chopsticks. We run outside to see if we can catch him and as he was driving away we asked if he had any chopsticks. What do you think he said? No. Of corse not! We didn't want to eat Chinese food with forks so we got in our car and drove down to the restaurant to get some. Once we get home and can finally eat our food we open the containers up only to find warm food and that one of the containers was filled with so much liquid (water from the vegetables) they it leaked all over the bag and on some of the other containers. We then had to wipe them all off and microwave our plates so we could eat hot food. The food wasn't as good as we thought it would be from a place with such a good yelp rating. There wasn't much flavor in the dishes and the sweet and sour chicken was heavily breaded and somewhat soggy. We also expected a better menu to choose from. The prices aren't crazy but they're too high for what you're getting. Overall we probably won't be back. We'll stick to our usual (and favorite) spot in CV. The food here isn't worth the price and the delivery experience alone left a bad taste in our mouth. Summary of the experience: Paid extra to have food delivered. Selected 'pay with cash' when we ordered. Delivery man shows up with NO change. Had to run around house searching for exact cash. Open up bag to find no chopsticks. Driver has no chopsticks. Yep, this place is good. What an extensive menu! We will need to come back many times to try all the different offerings. Sweet and Sour soup came with lunch. It was delicious... with a nice heat. It was "Souper" flavorful. The pan fried scallion pancake... very interesting. The flavor was great, but the texture was a little odd. The outside of the pancake was nice and crisp, but the inside was kinda gooey. It was 'stick to my teeth' gooey. While I didn't like the texture, I did enjoy the taste and would order it again. Finally, I ordered the Mongolian Three combination with Chow Mein. Do yourself a favor and get the Chow Mein on the side. So delicious. The meal had a spice to it that left my lips feeling the heat, but it was not spicy hot to the palate. I don't like spicy food. The flavor of this dish was complex and layered. It was spicy, but not in a HOT sort of way. It was seriously good. I want to come back and try some of their more unusual offerings. Hong Kong Style Chicken Chow Mein = the crispy noodles (aka HK Style) and chicken w vegetables gravy are packed separately - perfect for taking home and mixing together at home so the noodles don't get to soggy. I went to this place to help support them during the quarantine lockdown! I asked for my entrees to be spicy and with chopped chili's. I got the complete opposite, no spice, pack of flavor and lack of meat - they just added a bunch of extra veggies to cover up the lack of meat. When my husband called them back (because it was a to-go order) they lady rudely responded "look at your receipt, it says spicy". Granted that this restaurant is pretty small though. There was only one waitress working the entire night but she was very polite and friendly. She encouraged us to put in our order before a larger reserved party arrived because she didn't want us to compete for our entrees to be served; she a homie. * Stir Fry Pork Cheek and String Bean * If you've never had pork cheek, it's a lot like char siu but its got a fun, spunky texture; its got a moist but firm bite to it while being quite lean. The string beans were cooked just right; soft inside but indulging you with a crunch in each bite. * Stir Fry Prawns with Pumpkin and Egg Yolk * This was my favorite dish. I've never had an entree like this before. It's like shrimp and pumpkin tempura but the batter is made with salted egg yolk so you get all the flavor without needing dipping sauce. The pumpkin was crunchy on the outside but oh so delightfully moist and tender on the inside. The batter is very unique; it gives the shrimp and tempura a slightly thicker and creamier outer layer without losing its crux - the crispiness factor. * Braised Fish Chunks in Clay Pot * This is a classic that my family always gets. The fish is enveloped by a batter that gradually softens from soaking up all the sauce so that the whole piece just melts in your mouth. * Sautéed Pea Sprouts with Garlic * This dish appears to be a plain ol' plate o' veggies but beware, it's juicy and crisp in all the right places. And lets not forget our gift from the heavens - garlic. Ordered serveral dishes: salt and pepper pork chop, beef fried rice, shrimp fried rice, wonton soup, BBQ pork, sweet and sour pork, Chinese broccoli. Simple and not too salty, not too bland. I then realized that the chive were dried aged while the whole dish leave me to think what is the theme of this dish? The salted hog was not salty nor crispy as it should be, if they want to present it to be something else. Then they should put a warning sign next to it, "Order with caution!!!" Last bit not the least is the goose intestine with sour veggie, now may I remind you that this place was referred by a Hong Kong man. The lady took our order was rushing, had to hold her back to inquire about specials. $7.50 for half a chicken and only if you spend $25. Not much of a special to me. We ordered bbq pork & roast duck combo and fried pumpkin with shrimp. The bbq pork was dry and not much taste; had to ask for soy sauce. The 5 tiny pieces of duck was mostly fat, and again, dry and no taste. Then came the fried pumpkin that cost $14.50. All tiny pieces of fried pumpkins and 4 pieces of shrimp. Not kidding you. Should have taken a picture but didn't realize it until we were eating. Two unimpressed dishes, a bowl of white rice, for $30. Didn't really mind the price but very disappointed with the food. I ordered a lunch special to go. I asked if they could make lemon chicken instead of the sweet and sour chicken listed on the lunch special menu. I saw the lemon and sweet and sour were the same price in the menu for the entree so I assumed the lunch special price of 7.75 (7.25 plus 50 cent increase). I didn't get a soup which is an extra 1 buck to go. Somehow 7.75 with tax added up to 9.27. I got ripped off and the chicken had too much flour. read more

Under new management as of January 2014. It's a whole new ball game here folks. The old regime kept cheap, poorly made commodity-like food under heat lamps until someone ordered it. The new owners, a husband and wife team, are offering a unique menu with real vision. You can get the usual suspects, but there are some really interesting dishes that being offered on their menu as well. The salt and pepper calamari and green scallion crispy pancakes were two which stood out among the many dishes we ordered. Other dishes we enjoyed were authentic (in most cases) and plated with love. It was evident that a big thrust at this restaurant are the extremely fresh, vibrant ingredients that stand out on the plate. This is also a Scoville lover's paradise with many dishes offering an alluring heat, while others were blazing hot from the addition of dried chilies, chili pastes, and both red and green fresh peppers. Pricing seems very fair for the quality and portion size. The inside of this restaurant offers ample seating in a meticulously clean environment. Pleasant interior, lots of easy parking in adjacent lot, perfect for a nice bite to eat before seeing a movie at the Chabot Theater right across the street. They offer a wonderful lunch special, and have an extensive menu of other favorites for a la carte ordering. For lunch, we had the Mixed Kung Pao, which came with shrimp, beef and chicken, peppers zucchini and peanuts in a spicy sauce. Came with hot & sour soup, sautéed fresh veggies, and fried rice, all good sized portions. Also had the Schezwan Beef, with fresh jalepeños and the sides mentioned earlier. Excellent food, fair prices. Friendly attentive service from Sue and Cece, with Sue's husband the chef cooking up a storm in the back, I love family-owned and run restaurants, and hope they get lots of business from fellow Yelpers who love good Chinese food! I had to have had the very worst take out experience ever here. We got two BBQ items (duck and Bbq pork) for $10. It was THE worst Chinese BBQ I've ever had. First, the portion size was the amount u take home in leftovers. I could not BELIEVE just how small it was. I thought it was a mistake. We probably got no more than 4-5 scrawny pieces of each in a tiny Togo styrofoam box. The meat was such poor quality you would think it had been sitting out for at least 2-3 days. It was all shriveled up, dry, discolored, and nearly meatless anyway. You could tell it was NOT fresh. Secondly, they charged me for a pancake in my Togo order but refused to give it to me Bc I ordered it on Eat24. If I paid for it, I expect to get it. The meat was just awful. If I had a choice, I would have thrown it away but we paid for it. It was plain awful! The Only reason I'm bumping it up one star is because we have eaten there in the past w decent tasting food. But it wasn't the greatest. I would recommend Hong Kong BBQ any day over this place. It's more decent in price and portions, WAY better food. It's hard to find a good Chinese restaurant in CV after being spoiled in Oakland's Chinatown. This is the 3rd Chinese restaurant I've tried in town, and it's just Meh, nothing worthwhile and notable to return to. I ordered to go, the salt and pepper spareribs--skimpy portions; the salted fish tofu and vegetable clay pot--overly salty; and the fried fish fillet-skimpy again--grand total for $33. After arriving home, my instant thought was "what a rip off". Guess it's granted for its location. It was ok. Service was nice.
