FAMILY EVENTS When I go to eat at Chef's Experience China most of the time the occasion is for family gatherings. The year 2024 was the prime example. In February I ate for reception after a family friend's funeral. In June relatives and friends ate here after my nephew's high school graduation. Later that year in September I came here to celebrate my dad's birthday. There's something about this place that attracts family gatherings. Is it the food? The food here tasty and filling. Could it be the ambiance? The Chef's Experience China Bistro is a small restaurant. There are three dining areas. There is one at the side that is used for a banquet, which is the same space that was used for my dad's birthday party. In the middle there is a general dining area. At the back is a small section that could be used for a party - the same area that was used for my nephew's high school graduation celebration. I think what makes this place attractive is the bar when you enter the restaurant. How's the food? I like the stuffed eggplant, which is similar to eggplant parmesan. What I like about the orange chicken is the sauce is served on the side preserving the crispy breading. The sautéed vegetables aren't oily. Even though the menu doesn't seem overwhelming with items there are variety of items served at Chef's Experience China Bistro that you don't see at other Chinese restaurants. Since I mentioned about the bar I've order beverage such as Old Fashioned, Mint Julep, and Shirley Temple. I can't explain it but there is something about the vibe at Chef's Experience China Bistro that makes this restaurant a popular place to celebrate with the family. read more

We came later in the evening and sat at the bar. They were really busy with phone calls with take out orders. Eddie, the owner (?), was very friendly and funny. He joked a lot and made us feel very welcomed. We haven't been back here in years. From what I remember, it was because the portion sizes didn't match the prices. Things have changed for the better. Our plates were full and everything we ordered came out hot, fresh and delicious. Shrimp and crab fried spring rolls - we were told this was their signature dish and is the most popular. We would order this every time we come back. Seafood fried rice had a good amount of mixed seafood and NO PEAS! Yaaaaay! Lol Sweet and sour chicken - surprisingly, this is the dish that stood out the most. The chicken tasted fresh and was juicy. In a lot of other places the chicken is more solid and dry. Not this dish. A beautiful setting for a celebration with exceptional service and delicious food. Attended a graduation lunch at Chef's Bistro today and came away thoroughly impressed. Our group was seated in one of their banquet rooms, which was spacious, beautifully decorated, and perfect for celebrating such a special occasion. The service was exceptional throughout the event. The staff was attentive, friendly, and kept everything running smoothly despite the size of our party. The food was even better. We enjoyed a variety of dishes including chicken salad, chow mein, fried rice, honey prawns, teriyaki steak, dried spare ribs, Peking spare ribs, garlic green beans, salt and pepper chicken wings, egg rolls, and basil fish. Every dish was flavorful, fresh, and served hot. A standout for me was the pomegranate margarita from the bar. It was refreshing, well balanced, and paired perfectly with the meal. Between the beautiful banquet space, attentive service, and excellent food, Chef's Bistro made for a memorable celebration. I can't wait to come back and experience more of the menu. read more

Went to Chef's Bistro for food and drinks with my sister and fiancée, and I'll be honest--the night itself wasn't the best, but the experience at the restaurant still stood out. The service was on point from start to finish--attentive, friendly, and quick. We started with the lobster and shrimp potstickers , and they were absolutely amazing--definitely something I would order again without hesitation. For dinner, we ordered the string bean chicken, chicken fried rice, and salt and pepper wings. Everything came out family-style, which I loved, and the portions were generous--we had plenty left to take home. Even though the evening overall was a bit of a bust, the food and service made it worth it. I'd definitely come back to try more items on the menu. read more

I was craving Chinese comfort food in the Hayward & remembered this restaurant from past visits when we enjoyed the food. We ordered Sweet & Sour Pork, Combination Fried Rice, & Chicken Lettuce Wraps - comfort food. Portions are generous, possibly good for five people. It was as we remembered, seasoned just right & flavorful. The dining hall itself is decorated beautiful. It has an upscale ambiance. The dining experience could have been better. Servers & restaurant staff were very serious. No pleasantries were expressed when we entered or when we were seated. No smiles on their faces. It felt like that they didn't want to be there! We confirmed by the response to our tea experience. We ordered Jasmine tea for 2. When it arrived in a heavy pot, we let it steep for 2 minutes before we poured it into cups. It was luke warm, slightly warmer than tap water & it tasted like water. We requested that it be replaced. It was taken away by our server with a frown on her face, no apologies. Another server later walked by & explained it would be a couple of minutes. When the pot returned, we put a timer for 3 minutes. Now it was hot, but not tea hot, but still lacking Jasmine flavor. By this time, none of the servers checked in on us about the tea. We finally called our server. She explained that the manager's instructions were to put 1 tsp of tea leaves. If we want it darker, we should steep it longer. We did. That didn't work. Still no tea flavor. She then offered to take it off our tab & walked away. She also informed us other patrons had liked the Jasmine tea. She seemed really angry that we brought the problem of the tea to their attention. For the rest of our dining time, no one approached us. We enjoyed the delicious food but put the tea aside. It wasn't replaced or fixed. It took a while to even get the check. Food is good. Interior design is good. Service needs major improvement. read more

This location has plenty of parking in the back and you can also enter the restaurant through the back. It's a large restaurant with a banquet room, a little private seating area, as well as plenty tables to bring your family and friends. Wait staff is always very courteous, professional, and attentive the food is delicious. We ordered the combination chow mein, chow fun, sweet-and-sour shrimp, fried crab wonton, shrimp and crab egg rolls, shrimp dumplings and their margaritas are fantastic. The restuarant itself is nice. People greet you once you enter, and great service. The only problem I had was the orange chicken. I was expecting to get a juicy, flavorful chicken, but it just tasted dry and barely any flavor. Other than that, the place is clean and you get your food fairly quick. read more

I don't know what these reviews are on but they lied to me. The food here was nasty. I got garlic noodles and it was literally reused flavorless chowmein with garlic cloves just added on top. Very disappointing because It wasn't cheap. Felt greasy and flavorless; I couldn't even finish my meal. I also got regular chowmein with chicken but it was also nasty. If you wanna waste ur money on reused flavorless food go here. I wish I had something nice to say but I don't which is sad. read more

I'll give it a four star - they have a bar and mentioned they have a 3-6 happy hour M-F. We went today (Saturday) for dinner on a whim. Actually a somewhat unusual vibe and they pull it off very very well, actually quite impressively. Waitress was pretty down to earth, told you how it was. LOL - I found it fun. Good proper Chinese food, soup was proper. No complaints and service was actually very very good. Portion size more than respectable. No, it's not the Hong Kong Flower Lounge - but they do a really decent job for Hayward and frankly we will go back as regulars. It is a mainstream American Chinese offering. Perfectly fine. Parking in the back and the Foothill frontage is an issue as by the time you see it going south your forced into the "S" curve to Mission. We were perfectly happy, It jumps up to 4 stars from three for keeping the food authentic and pretty much attentive and prompt service. read more

Very good solid spot! Food was good I really enjoyed the salt and pepper squid very good appetizer to start with. Orange chicken was also a solid dish not soggy had a good crisp to chicken. Other dish's like chow mien and beef broccoli were good nothing to complain about with food and service. Staff were very nice and helpful even with our kids running around. Sorry about that guys we will be back with no kids next time lol. But very good spot parking in back of building the ambiance was good nicely decorated water fountain was not on maybe it was being worked on but that would be really nice to see working with maybe some koi inside. My wife and I are not big on Chinese food....love Vietnamese and Thai because they're lighter, less oily and more delicate flavors. BUT!! This place has always had something different and I can't quite put my finger on the difference but the food is awesome!! We took my mother-in-law and got there at 5 pm. Turns out, happy hour ends at 6 pm so great prices on drinks and appetizers...good to keep in mind. A very generous wine pour for $6 and lettuce wraps were tasty. We each ordered an entree knowing there would be leftovers. All three were excellent and high quality. The staff is very attentive and the food comes out quickly. A very good experience!! read more

This is our 4th-5th time here for the last 2-3 years but never did I think of giving out reviews before lol I just keep forgetting and so sorry about that. The parking is behind the building so you will enter on the back of the resto. The place has a nice feel and decor to it. I just wish that they would focus a little bit and improve on the hallway entrance since the first thing you can see is the kitchen and the toilet as soon as you get in. For me it's a little eye sore considering the interior has so much character and personality. Anyways, the food were still as great and the staff were very attentive and fast too. Well actually there were only 5 tables occupied since we went there a little early like 1130.... By the time we left, the place was half full already. It is a pretty big place and They also have a private room if you want to hold a private event and a full bar as well. I have to say I still highly recommend this place. They have been here for almost 15 yrs I think since we move to Hayward. It's worth trying to dine here. I needed a comfort meal for a cold day so I ordered Chef's Experience off Uber Eats after wanting to try them for years since the front stands out over in downtown Hayward. The main reason I went with them was because I really wanted a hot and sour soup and theirs was the only one that was a decent price to order as a side so I could order lots of other dishes as well! The hot and sour soup hit the spot for that craving. I also got the XLB (they were ok, kinda on the small side), Lemon chicken (also ok-I do like that they put the lemon sauce on the side so the chicken doesn't get so soggy), fried rice was good, chicken chow mein was perfect, and crispy shrimp dumplings (basically shrimp in wonton wrappers) was indeed crispy. I do like that the meal overall didn't taste overly greasy or salty-sometimes I didn't feel super bloated after this meal as I sometimes do after chinese food lol. read more

Go to the restaurant. It is good. Do not do door dash, they do not provide the same service. I have had many missing things and when calling to notify the manager. He did not care nor wanted to hear feedback that was given with the intention of bringing it to him as an area that he might want to address. Didn't ask for Anything and was calm. I do enjoy most of the meals here without a doubt. Except for the fried rice... not sure why it can't be as good as the other menu items. Small grain rice has no bite and lacks flavor etc. For this reason I may order 4 items here but buy my fried rice at a different restaurant. Service is always good. Im only rating our experience for their event room. We booked this place for grandma's funeral. At the beginning I think they got very overwhelmed and didn't expect everyone to come at the same time. Food was really good and fresh. We had chowmein, orange chicken, crab wonton or rangoon and some veggies with meat. My favorite was the honey walnut shrimp. It was amazing. It wasn't saucy at all it was a perfect mix of and just enough sauce. My only thing is, idk if they put so much ice on the drinks but they get the liter sodas pour it in a pitcher with ice by the time we get it, it is so watered down that it taste like nothing at that point. I do think they should stick with the soda machines. I know this is quicker but the quality definitely suffered on this. Their event room was really nice and fancy. White linen, nice utensils and very clean. Kudos to the owner, he was amazing and handled our event amazingly. read more

So good. Came in because I saw they had bar seating and I needed somewhere to eat dinner solo for the night. Really cool staff. Bartender was super friendly and made sure I was taken care of. They're a little pricey, but the quality and ambiance come with the price. I tried the Malaysian Fried rice. So good. Had a different kick to it. Had more of a coconut umami taste to it. I finally got the Chinese food I've been craving for months. When I want Chinese food, nothing else will do so I don't even bother trying any other place until I can make it to China Bistro!! I get it; we all like what we like! As for me, This Is It!! Love the staff and Edward is always on point. This time we ordered take out and chilled at the bar while we waited over great conversation. They have a nice selection of wine and top shelf spirits. The icing on the cake is when I finally arrived home and dove into what we ordered and EVERYTHING was exactly as I'd hoped it would be.
