Always good Chinese food here. We had the classic Peking duck with fluffy buns., fish cakes with mixed be mixed vegetables. The speciality of this restaurant is the beef with egg tofu. The food is outstanding which is why we drive down to Hayward to dine here. The service is wonderful. They are so nice and we enjoy the total experience.
3.5 stars We came here before 11am shortly after opening on a Sunday and there was no wait. We decided to try their entrees and skipped the dimsum. The salted fish chicken eggplant claypot took a long time to come, it came at the end and the eggplants were burnt on the bottom and the skin was tough to chew. It was also submerged in a lot of oil but tastewise it was okay. The satay beef chow fun was good, it was actually runny and not too salty. The pineapple was a nice touch, we just weren't a big fan of the red bellpeppers. Japanese style beef cubes with fried silken tofu was really good, the sauce is slightly sweet and savory and not too salty. We really liked this one. All 3 dishes were in the low $20s, and more than enough for 3 people. We had leftovers to go. There is free dessert! Choice is mango pudding or grass jelly.
Just another great dim sum lunch at Tins. Everything was on point. I absolutely loved the dry-fried spare ribs--perfectly done. We also had the chicken feet in black bean sauce (just delicious). Never thought I'd end up liking those, but here we are. We ordered siu mai, soup dumplings, ribs with black bean sauce and sausage, plus some steamed BBQ pork buns. Another solid meal at Tins.
Came here to yumcha with my partner on Saturday. We have been to a few chinese restaurants around the bay area so decided to give Tin's Teapot Bistro a try. We got seated very quickly but the wait time for the food to come out after placing the order took longer. The food was ok. Not the best but not the worst. The beef tripe was on a soft side which is not to my liking since I prefer a bit more chewy. All the noodle dishes were good. Love that they give out free mango pudding at the end. The mango pudding was delicious and great way to end our meal.
Food was great but the speed was extremely slow. We were a group of 3, on Sunday evening, waited for 20 some minutes to be seated, which was okay. It was long waiting- more than 30min before the first meal served. Every other item took at least 30 minutes to get served. We ended up having empty plates all the time. By 8PM they closed, we still having two items awaiting. This is definitely not a place to come with an empty stomach.
Got food delivered which didn't take too long. Food was okay, mediocre Chinese. Salt and pepper pork chops were a bit soft/soggy by the time they got to us and could have used more salt/pepper flavor. Door Dash did poor job of sesame chicken description so I didn't know it was breaded and drenched in a sweet sauce, which I didn't want. The wor wonton soup could have used more veggies besides green peas, like something leafy and more mushrooms. Mongolian beef, shrimp pea dumplings, and shrimp fried rice were good.
This restaurant is a solid option for Chinese cuisine and dim sum in Hayward. I ordered the crab meat fish belly soup, steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed chicken feet in black bean sauce, cucumber with garlic sauce, and honey walnut prawns (photos show the portion sizes served during dim sum). Overall, the food quality was decent, though the flavors were on the milder side for my personal preference. The honey walnut prawns were the standout -- the batter stayed remarkably crispy despite the sauce, which many restaurants have not perfected. Complimentary mango pudding (not pictured) was a nice touch. Service was good during this visit. However, based on past experiences, service can be inconsistent and seems to depend on the day and staff.
Tin's Teapot Bistro was the venue of a dinner organized by black badge Elite Li Y. of Hawaii on 08/08/2004. Li was kind enough to extend me an invitation, and I finally got a chance to meet several long time Yelpers in person. This was my first time eating at Tin's since the pandemic. Upon entering, I saw Alice the owner working at the cash register. Really glad to see her still at the helm. The interior appeared to have gone through a slight upgrade. Cleanliness was still excellent. We were seated at a large round table. Our group of 10 elected to eat family style. We each picked a dish, so we ended up with a table full of food. Overall, the quality was quite good. My two favorites were the Salt and Pepper Pork Chop and XO Sauce Seafood Combo. Judging from the absence of leftovers, I'd say the others liked it as well. Service we received was terrific. The staff were friendly and attentive. Many thanks to Li for organizing this dinner. Good food, great company. Definitely a fantastic outing!
The disorganization and lack of cleanliness or care of quality just ruined our experience here. It's a shame really because the food was quite good, but the overall experience plagued by, "wtf" moments, just kind of ruined the experience. Let's start with the food. The food itself was good, minus the taro ball for which we weren't able to try because a piece of lint cloth was fried into the ball itself. More on this later. Apparently, Tin's makes their dim sums in batches, which is OK but that means patrons will wait, unnecessarily. Essentially, Tin's will wait for a batch of orders before making their foods. This means that if you miss the cut off, be prepared to wait 20-30 minutes for your food while everything else may get served first. Like, why? While it may be "efficient", if we had known we'd have skipped Tin's because we just waited and waited. Now for the taro ball, which we got at the end of our meal, contained a piece of lint cloth that was fried into the ball itself. When I brought this to the attention of one of the workers, he took it and came back and said, that they could either remake the taro ball or just cut off that piece and re-serve. Why is your option not to remake or refund? You think we want you to just cut it off? And if that's an option, do I still trust you will actually remake it in 3 mins when it took almost 45 mins to get this because of your batching rather than just cutting it off and refrying it? It's truly a shame because the food we got to try we-re actually tasty. But the experience really just made me wish we picked somewhere else.
This restaurant serves excellent food at very reasonable prices. The owner is incredibly kind, and the staff are genuinely wonderful people. I've been coming here for the past 15 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. The atmosphere is welcoming, the service is great, and although there can be a bit of a wait, it's always worth it. They always make me feel like a VIP, and I truly appreciate everyone here. I love this place and highly recommend it.
Tin's Teapot Bistro is an old-school Cantonese dim sum restaurant with a dated dining room setting. Our dim sum bites included several types of dumplings including taro dumplings filled with a carby mixture of chopped taro and pork; the fresh pea sprouts & shrimp dumplings; and chiu chow dumplings with minced pork, shrimp, and radishes. Each of these came with a thin, soft, translucent skin that just held together. We also had the XLB pork soup dumplings with vinegar; and the egg yolk lava buns, which had a sweet and umami flavor but an extremely greasy, oily filling. Tin's Empress Chicken was a small portion of chilled yellow-skin chicken served with ginger scallion sauce on the side; and we also had a soup made with egg noodles, preserved vegetables, bean sprouts, and shredded duck. One of my favorite dishes was the rice noodle roll stuffed, uniquely, with bitter melon and white meat chicken, along with a savory sauce. Overall, the food here was all decent, though not necessarily the best dim sum I've had. The service was efficient though not particularly friendly, and everything came at fair prices.
Solid dim sum spot! My bf and I are trying to check out new local spots versus going to our "go tos" and we're glad we found this spot. Menu can be a bit overwhelming since there are so many options but we found our normal "go to" dishes. We ordered the honey walnut prawns, fried noodle roll w spicy sauce, rice noodle roll with shrimp, steamed egg custard, and the Shanghai dumplings. No complaints about any of these dishes! Service was quick. Got all our dishes in a timely manner. We barely have any left overs. We arrived around 5:30 and there were only two other parties. It's now 6:10 and a lot more parties have joined so dinner on a Sunday can get a little busy! Will definitely be back!
Whenever I come to Hayward, I always save my appetite and make a trip to Tin's Teapot Bistro. I love the warm and inviting atmosphere -- very friendly and wholesome staff. My family celebrated my dad's 87th birthday here. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy, but there were still seats available. My sister had reserved our tables a few days in advance. The staff told her we wouldn't be seated unless our entire party was present. About 4 people were late, but they still seated us. The restaurant kind of felt old and somewhat dirty. But hey, it was my dad's birthday. I wasn't paying for lunch. We occupied three tables and ordered from both the lunch and dim sum menus. I enjoyed dishes like shiu mai, pork buns, walnut shrimp, fried rice, fish, and fried noodles. The sesame balls were tasty, but the service was slow, and I had to follow up on our order. I didn't care for the bun with the hot dog or the other noodle dish. Later that day, my daughter mentioned she had found hair in a pork bun and that her cousin had eaten it. She also said every item he picked up had hair on it, which was disappointing. I didn't confirm this with my cousin, but it would have been helpful to have someone inform the staff. Fortunately, no one at our table found hair in their food, which was a relief. Overall, the food that I ate was fine, but I wouldn't make a special trip from San Jose to visit again...unless it's a fambam family treat. read more

Local cute dim sum place. Friendly workers and very nice. Small parking lot but good amount of spots! Food - dim sum was standard and tasty! I really enjoyed the minced meat turnovers and the mango shrimp rolls. Small review but if it's good food and a good time, not much else is needed :) read more

I've been going to Tin Teapot Bistro, 4 or 5 times a year since 2021, but only during dinner hours. I've tried many items on the dinner menu, and find the 3 pictured items consistently excellent each time I've eaten there. The standout item is the "oxtail stew in red wine sauce, in a clay pot"...this is "not" on the menu, but the last 6 or 7 times I've asked, they had it. The sauce is what I think makes this dish, it adds alot of flavor and body due to the infusion of the red wine. I could just order this dish with a bowl of white rice and call it a day, its so great tasting. read more
A BEEEG thank you to Elite Yelpers George F and Harvey K for putting this place on the map for me. They have been my Chinese food specialists in the Bay area for many years. When the occasion for me to be in their "neighborhood" became a reality I reached out to them for a restaurant suggestion and ask if they wanted to meetup. Both resoundingly recommended Tin's Teapot. So a few yelp friends and extended yelp friends gathered here. Excited to finally meet Harvey and George IRL after following them and their eating adventures for years! With ten filling a table for early dinner, we each chose one dish. Each dish came out in generous portions and I was sure we ordered too much! That's the funny thing about Chinese food... always seems to be "just enough" as full as we were! This is what we ordered: Singapore rice noodle, Wok charred porkchops, Sautéed pea shoots, XO seafood combination, Chinese beef stew, General Tsao's chicken, Vegetarian Buddha delight Clams in black bean sauce, Prawns w/honey glazed walnuts, Beef with mushrooms, and tea and rice. I honestly loved all the food. Favorites being the pea shoots and perfectly seasoned pork chops. Enjoyed the food and the even better company that I told my family about it and happily drove them over a week later for lunch. Second visit this is what we had: a whole lotta dim sum! Seriously so much I can't even remember what except favorites included (again) the sautéed pea shoots, the lotus wrapped mochi rice, bean curd wrapped... pork filled steamed and seafood filled pan fried ones, and salted egg pumpkin fritters. All so memorable! Least favorite were the shu mai and xialongbao. Absolutely love this place! Such memorable company 2x. Happy to meet and make yelp friendships with Cheryl, Hazel, Dexter and their plus ones. Happy to celebrate years of friendship with Harvey, George, Kyra, and AL L ! Such great belly laughs and secret stories told (shhh). Thanks for being great (yelp and now IRL) friends over the years! Thank you Tin's for the delicious food including refreshing mango pudding, for excellent service and food, and for letting us stay way beyond what we should have. You are tops in my book! read more

Tin's Teapot Bistro was the destination of choice for a dinner gathering hosted by my good friend Li Y. Before the invitation, I had never heard of Tin's so it was a fun time for me to try somewhere new! Being a gathering of 1" people, Tin's was an ideal place to host it. The restaurant is well sized with tables for both small and large parties. I felt comfortable and not too squished at their round table which fit all of us! The decor and ambiance seemed typical to me of a Chinese restaurant. The atmosphere was lowkey and a place I could tell people frequent to with friends and family. I found the service to be courteous and our food came out relatively efficiently. We appreciated the complimentary dessert! We all chose to eat family style. All 10 of us ordered our own dishes which were a mixture of vegetarian, red meat, and seafood. All satisfying and nice to share. Out of the plethora of items, my favorites had to be Singapore Style Rice Vermicelli, Pea Sprout with Minced Garlic Sauce, and Vanilla Prawns with Honey Glazed Walnuts--all items I typically enjoy. Though I'm not far from Hayward, I rarely go so am unfamiliar with the food scene. I found Tin's to be good but the company to be even better. Thank you to Li Y. and others for a fabulous evening! Came in picked up some Hargow (Shrimp Dumplings), Shumai (Pork & Shrimp Dumplings), Mongolian Beef, and Beef Chow Fun for Sunday Football!! Called in the order and was ready in about 30mins. Not too bad. Small portions for a big price tag on the Mongolian Beef and Beef Chow Fun. The dumplings were standard size. The food here is average. But the service was friendly. read more

Supreme service exceptionally great food I love everything pn the menu Sui mai is FIRE Honey walnut prawn (OmG) Combo fried rice ( yummy ) And the beautiful Alice & her husband effortlessly slaving away in the kitchen to make sure everything is perfect !!! My whole family loves them and patronizes as often as possible !!! Get in there people : I just heard she is only there for a few more years then her and hubby are out !! Hopefully to retire !!! Parking lot, excellent taste, affordable, great service, comfortable surroundings,...years of experience from its start in Oakland Chinatown to Walnut Creek and to current location in Hayward. The food was all hot and tasty. We will definitely go back for more dim sum. read more

We really enjoyed this restaurant. The wait staff was extremely friendly and service was great. The food was delicious. The beef rice noodle roll and the stuffed eggplant were great! The green onion pancake and fried rice were basic, but good. Overall, the food was much better than average! read more

3/5 food 4/5 service support local owned Note: they have odd hours operating. Double check. It's good if you cant go to your regular dim sum place. Other comments say it's ran by an older couple. Decor and food lends that to be true. I'd come back if i had a craving. Har gow 2/5. The shell was chewy like Japanese mochi. Filling ok. Shumai 3/5. Satisfied but not your typical go to Shumai. It really looks and taste like someone made it from home. Rice roll with shrimp 3/5. Same as above. Made at home taste not a restaurant. Deep fried meat ball 5/5. The "football" wrapped shaped mochi thing with meat. I asked server not to cut it. I ate jt last. Let it cool enough. Satisfied crunch and perfectly chewy. Pork spare ribs 2/5? Not at all black bean sauced, but cooked correctly otherwise. AND 3/5 actually for being very well cleaned. No bone shards! Service. Happy the main server and read the room. I wanted to eat alone after work. But he chatted and had great rapport and humor with other guests / regulars. Appreciate the skill. Also nice workers / older age folks working here. Came back for dimsum today and it's still my favorite local spot! The staff are amazing and super friendly. The dimsum here tastes better here than a lot of the other spots I visited since moving to the Bay Area. Minimal wait on the weekend! read more

Yes, actually we only use white meat to prepare our chicken dishes!

No, when using DoorDash I noticed the prices were more expensive. Best to call to order. Bonus: ordering directly benefits the restaurant, they won't have to give 23% of profits to DoorDash.
Does this place does dim sum everyday they are opened?
Yes! All-day dim sum last I checked.
Are Dim Sum served all day or only until 3pm?
Dimsum is usually served all day, but they might run out of things towards the night time. It's usually made to order. I've had dimusm at 8pm there for dinner before.
