Although it's a little old and not in the best atmosphere of the facility I brought many different groups to this place after first experience of this place 3 or 4 years ago. Since my parents live in Hayward I bring my family here very often as well. Hard to find a good HongKong style restaurants unless I go to San Francisco or Oakland but in Hayward area this is it. My family celebrated my dad's 87th birthday here. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy, but there were still seats available. My sister had reserved our tables a few days in advance. The staff told her we wouldn't be seated unless our entire party was present. About 4 people were late, but they still seated us. The restaurant kind of felt old and somewhat dirty. But hey, it was my dad's birthday. I wasn't paying for lunch. We occupied three tables and ordered from both the lunch and dim sum menus. I enjoyed dishes like shiu mai, pork buns, walnut shrimp, fried rice, fish, and fried noodles. The sesame balls were tasty, but the service was slow, and I had to follow up on our order. I didn't care for the bun with the hot dog or the other noodle dish. Later that day, my daughter mentioned she had found hair in a pork bun and that her cousin had eaten it. She also said every item he picked up had hair on it, which was disappointing. I didn't confirm this with my cousin, but it would have been helpful to have someone inform the staff. Fortunately, no one at our table found hair in their food, which was a relief. Food was great but the speed was extremely slow. We were a group of 3, on Sunday evening, waited for 20 some minutes to be seated, which was okay. It was long waiting- more than 30min before the first meal served. Every other item took at least 30 minutes to get served. We ended up having empty plates all the time. 3.5 stars We came here before 11am shortly after opening on a Sunday and there was no wait. We decided to try their entrees and skipped the dimsum. The salted fish chicken eggplant claypot took a long time to come, it came at the end and the eggplants were burnt on the bottom and the skin was tough to chew. It was also submerged in a lot of oil but tastewise it was okay. The satay beef chow fun was good, it was actually runny and not too salty. The pineapple was a nice touch, we just weren't a big fan of the red bellpeppers. Japanese style beef cubes with fried silken tofu was really good, the sauce is slightly sweet and savory and not too salty. We really liked this one. Came here to yumcha with my partner on Saturday. We have been to a few chinese restaurants around the bay area so decided to give Tin's Teapot Bistro a try. We got seated very quickly but the wait time for the food to come out after placing the order took longer. The food was ok. Not the best but not the worst. The beef tripe was on a soft side which is not to my liking since I prefer a bit more chewy. All the noodle dishes were good. Love that they give out free mango pudding at the end. I've been going to Tin Teapot Bistro, 4 or 5 times a year since 2021, but only during dinner hours. I've tried many items on the dinner menu, and find the 3 pictured items consistently excellent each time I've eaten there. The standout item is the "oxtail stew in red wine sauce, in a clay pot"...this is "not" on the menu, but the last 6 or 7 times I've asked, they had it. The sauce is what I think makes this dish, it adds alot of flavor and body due to the infusion of the red wine. Salt and pepper pork chops were a bit soft/soggy by the time they got to us and could have used more salt/pepper flavor. Door Dash did poor job of sesame chicken description so I didn't know it was breaded and drenched in a sweet sauce, which I didn't want. This restaurant is a solid option for Chinese cuisine and dim sum in Hayward. I ordered the crab meat fish belly soup, steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed chicken feet in black bean sauce, cucumber with garlic sauce, and honey walnut prawns (photos show the portion sizes served during dim sum). Overall, the food quality was decent, though the flavors were on the milder side for my personal preference. The honey walnut prawns were the standout -- the batter stayed remarkably crispy despite the sauce, which many restaurants have not perfected. Complimentary mango pudding (not pictured) was a nice touch. Service was good during this visit. Tin's Teapot Bistro is an old-school Cantonese dim sum restaurant with a dated dining room setting. Our dim sum bites included several types of dumplings including taro dumplings filled with a carby mixture of chopped taro and pork; the fresh pea sprouts & shrimp dumplings; and chiu chow dumplings with minced pork, shrimp, and radishes. Each of these came with a thin, soft, translucent skin that just held together. We also had the XLB pork soup dumplings with vinegar; and the egg yolk lava buns, which had a sweet and umami flavor but an extremely greasy, oily filling. Tin's Empress Chicken was a small portion of chilled yellow-skin chicken served with ginger scallion sauce on the side; and we also had a soup made with egg noodles, preserved vegetables, bean sprouts, and shredded duck. One of my favorite dishes was the rice noodle roll stuffed, uniquely, with bitter melon and white meat chicken, along with a savory sauce. Overall, the food here was all decent, though not necessarily the best dim sum I've had. The service was efficient though not particularly friendly, and everything came at fair prices. read more

Tin's Teapot Bistro was the venue of a dinner organized by black badge Elite Li Y. of Hawaii on 08/08/2004. Li was kind enough to extend me an invitation, and I finally got a chance to meet several long time Yelpers in person. This was my first time eating at Tin's since the pandemic. Upon entering, I saw Alice the owner working at the cash register. Really glad to see her still at the helm. The interior appeared to have gone through a slight upgrade. Cleanliness was still excellent. We were seated at a large round table. Our group of 10 elected to eat family style. We each picked a dish, so we ended up with a table full of food. Overall, the quality was quite good. My two favorites were the Salt and Pepper Pork Chop and XO Sauce Seafood Combo. Judging from the absence of leftovers, I'd say the others liked it as well. The disorganization and lack of cleanliness or care of quality just ruined our experience here. It's a shame really because the food was quite good, but the overall experience plagued by, "wtf" moments, just kind of ruined the experience. Let's start with the food. The food itself was good, minus the taro ball for which we weren't able to try because a piece of lint cloth was fried into the ball itself. More on this later. Apparently, Tin's makes their dim sums in batches, which is OK but that means patrons will wait, unnecessarily. Essentially, Tin's will wait for a batch of orders before making their foods. This means that if you miss the cut off, be prepared to wait 20-30 minutes for your food while everything else may get served first. Like, why? While it may be "efficient", if we had known we'd have skipped Tin's because we just waited and waited. Now for the taro ball, which we got at the end of our meal, contained a piece of lint cloth that was fried into the ball itself. When I brought this to the attention of one of the workers, he took it and came back and said, that they could either remake the taro ball or just cut off that piece and re-serve. Why is your option not to remake or refund? You think we want you to just cut it off? And if that's an option, do I still trust you will actually remake it in 3 mins when it took almost 45 mins to get this because of your batching rather than just cutting it off and refrying it? It's truly a shame because the food we got to try we-re actually tasty. But the experience really just made me wish we picked somewhere else. read more

Brought back memories of Oakland Chinatown days at Tin's. The food is just as tasty and delicious as I remember. The Siu Mai, Chicken feet, cheung fun, bean curd wrap, dry beef chow fun were all a must return to have. Service is very personal, professional and accommodating. Solid dim sum spot! My bf and I are trying to check out new local spots versus going to our "go tos" and we're glad we found this spot. Menu can be a bit overwhelming since there are so many options but we found our normal "go to" dishes. We ordered the honey walnut prawns, fried noodle roll w spicy sauce, rice noodle roll with shrimp, steamed egg custard, and the Shanghai dumplings. No complaints about any of these dishes! Service was quick. Got all our dishes in a timely manner. We barely have any left overs. We arrived around 5:30 and there were only two other parties. A BEEEG thank you to Elite Yelpers George F and Harvey K for putting this place on the map for me. They have been my Chinese food specialists in the Bay area for many years. When the occasion for me to be in their "neighborhood" became a reality I reached out to them for a restaurant suggestion and ask if they wanted to meetup. Both resoundingly recommended Tin's Teapot. So a few yelp friends and extended yelp friends gathered here. Excited to finally meet Harvey and George IRL after following them and their eating adventures for years! With ten filling a table for early dinner, we each chose one dish. Each dish came out in generous portions and I was sure we ordered too much! That's the funny thing about Chinese food... always seems to be "just enough" as full as we were! This is what we ordered: Singapore rice noodle, Wok charred porkchops, Sautéed pea shoots, XO seafood combination, Chinese beef stew, General Tsao's chicken, Vegetarian Buddha delight Clams in black bean sauce, Prawns w/honey glazed walnuts, Beef with mushrooms, and tea and rice. I honestly loved all the food. Favorites being the pea shoots and perfectly seasoned pork chops. Enjoyed the food and the even better company that I told my family about it and happily drove them over a week later for lunch. Second visit this is what we had: a whole lotta dim sum! Seriously so much I can't even remember what except favorites included (again) the sautéed pea shoots, the lotus wrapped mochi rice, bean curd wrapped... pork filled steamed and seafood filled pan fried ones, and salted egg pumpkin fritters. All so memorable! Least favorite were the shu mai and xialongbao. Absolutely love this place! Such memorable company 2x. We wanted to do a repeat dinner at Tin's. Our last experience was positive, and we wanted to confirm that it was the food and not just the company that we dined with. The first thing that we noticed when we pulled into the parking lot is that the man who had been sheltering in the corner of the lot behind the tree was no longer there. It was odd to walk up to the front door and hear a warning that we were being recorded. We walked in and there was a man with his back to us who was praying to a shrine. We walked a little deeper in so staff could see us but no one came until the man who was behind us praying walked up and asked how many in our party. We were seated and menus were presented. A server came by and asked what we'd like to drink. I ordered Ice Water and she ordered Hot Tea. The server asked if Jasmine was okay, and I suggested that he bring us Gook Bo instead. Gook Bo is a blend of Pu-ehr and Chrysanthemum. I asked my wife to do the ordering. We both enjoy having numerous flavors, so it was not surprising that we ended up with five dishes. There were: Wok-Charred Pork Chop - 5 - This was the one dish that we had last time that stood out in both our minds. And it was just as delicious this time! Minced Beef with Cilantro Soup - 5 - Also known as Westlake Beef Soup on some menus. The server served it correctly by bringing out a shaker of White Pepper. Braised Japanese Tofu w/ Tender Greens - 5 - The Greens were truly tender and the Tofu was served super hot. Delicious by itself, only a bowl of steamed rice could have made it even more yummy. Thai Style Fish Fillet w/ Basil - 5 - She likes to order items that sound different. I was guessing Black Bean Sause with Basil similar to a Clam dish that we had a couple times in Southern California. Nope, it was more of a Thai Sweet and Spicy Sauce over lightly battered and deep fried fish with Basil. Combination Chow Mein, Hong Kong Style - 5 - Hong Kong Style Chow Mein is usually a thin noodle that is deep fried into a plate sized patty and then the meat, vegetables and sauce are pour over. Some of the toasty noodles will now be soft while others are still crunchy. The restaurant was about 1/3 occupied. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. We felt that the music was a bit loud for conversation. The servers were excellent and all of our orders came from the kitchen piping hot. I noticed that when the check was brought to our table, they had charged us for tea for two. After we put a credit card down and the final check came, they had removed one of the tea charges without me having to say anything, so extra points for attentiveness to detail. Before the invitation, I had never heard of Tin's so it was a fun time for me to try somewhere new! Being a gathering of 1" people, Tin's was an ideal place to host it. The restaurant is well sized with tables for both small and large parties. I felt comfortable and not too squished at their round table which fit all of us! The decor and ambiance seemed typical to me of a Chinese restaurant. The atmosphere was lowkey and a place I could tell people frequent to with friends and family. I found the service to be courteous and our food came out relatively efficiently. We appreciated the complimentary dessert! We all chose to eat family style. All 10 of us ordered our own dishes which were a mixture of vegetarian, red meat, and seafood. All satisfying and nice to share. Out of the plethora of items, my favorites had to be Singapore Style Rice Vermicelli, Pea Sprout with Minced Garlic Sauce, and Vanilla Prawns with Honey Glazed Walnuts--all items I typically enjoy. My friend from Hawaii is here visiting and arranged to have a gathering of her Yelp friends. It was here at Tin's Teapot Bistro, which I found out from Harvey K, was originally in Oakland Chinatown then moved to Walnut Creek before moving to Hayward. The restaurant has its own parking lot, which was convenient. Our reservations was at 6:30, there had a good sized crowd for a Thursday evening. With eight Yelpers and two spouses rounding out our banquet table of 10, we decided that each of us would select an entrée. We all perused the menu and came to a consensus on 10 dishes. Our dishes: Pea Sprouts in Garlic Sauce Singapore Noodles Wok-charred Pork Chop XO Combination Seafood Beef Stew/Tendons Clay Pot General Chicken Buddha Delight with Braised Tofu Clams in Black Bean Sauce Honey Glazed Prawns Beef with Mushroom The stand out dishes for me were the pea sprouts, honey walnut prawns, beef with mushrooms and clams in black bean sauce. They were prepared well and had good flavor. I was a little disappointed with my beef stew/tendons clay pot since there was very little tendons. White rice is charged by the bowl @$2.50 and tea charge @$1.50 per person. The waiter and servers were friendly and our dishes came out consistently one after another.
