King Kong, the place where we usually order our takeout sushi, has started adding an automatic tip of 20% to takeout orders. I have always tip the waitress at the bar $20 since this is where the ordered is picked up, but this has become a bit of a concern for us, especially because our orders tend to be well over $100. A month ago ate at your restaurant at Broadway at the Beach and I was very disappointed. The food was delicious however the service was horrible. Our server Steph was the worst I have ever seen. She greeted us with a miserable look on her face. She was very unfriendly. She forgot our drinks and silverware and had to remind her several times. When our food was finally ready it was just sitting there and it took her 10-15 minutes for her to bring it to our table and forgot who ordered what and basically threw the food on our table. Let me start off by saying that our lunch was tasty and our waitress, Erica, was awesome. My husband enjoyed his Rainbow Roll and Russian Roulette roll. My shrimp hibachi lunch was also good. Here's the problem...I was CRAVING a poké bowl! Unfortunately they changed (read - made smaller!!) the menu and no longer offer poké bowls! The make your own poké bowls were always so fresh and tasty! They also cut their special sushi offerings from over 100 choices to about 20; very disappointing. We've been frequenting King Kong sushi in both this location and the Carolina Forest location as our go-to sushi places. So so good, but we over-ordered and stuffed ourselves until we were miserable just so we didn't waste anything. Appetizers we had were the dumplings and tuna tataki. Both really nice flavors but in hindsight we probably should of skipped them to finish the sushi we ordered. Service was great and the lemon drop martini was too. I was in the area for vacation with a couple of friends and my partner. It was pretty empty for lunch on a Sunday, just a couple tables filled. We were craving some serious sushi. The menu was incredible - so many different types of appetizers, entrees, and SO MUCH SUSHI. Dozens of types of rolls. Needless to say, I was giddy just looking at all the pages of sushi. But not as giddy as when my partner noticed that there was a special going on. The special included a choice of appetizer, edamame, 4 rolls of our choice and 2 pieces of nigiri for like $50! I compared this to what my partner and I typically get at a sushi place for a nice dinner, and this was a good value. I can't really remember all the different rolls we got, but we really enjoyed each one we got. They were neatly put together, not too saucy (I hate when sushi places think they need to sauce everything to get the masses to eat it), and quite delicious. The appetizer was a "chicken roll" - chicken wrapped around some fillings. It was really interesting and filling for an appetizer. I didn't really care for it, but my partner enjoyed it. For just a few extra dollars, we could add a dessert. So we chose the red bean ice cream. We got a really big scoop that was delicious. If you've never had red bean ice cream, I'd highly recommend it - they're sweet beans, trust me. We were hurting from full bellies, but it was all so worth it. I thought the service was pretty good too - very nice waitress. I'd recommend trying it if you want to try a nice variety of sushi A few extra notes: - Their scorpion bowl was GOOD. The new waitress didn't really know how to make one, but she looked it up and made a killer one. I appreciated her willingness to try. We ordered a second one. - One of my friends has a shellfish allergy and could not have anything remotely touching shellfish - including the fry oil. It was not a problem at this restaurant. They were quick to accommodate. I don't think a restaurant should need praise for accommodating allergies, but we recently visited a different restaurant during this same vacation that messed up twice so my friend didn't end up with a dinner! I hate giving bad reviews but I want to save someone from this experience/expense. My wife and I had sushi and the more premium unfiltered cold sake. First out was the sake. It came in a house bottle not the sealed bottle like I am used to which is fine but it honestly tasted like it had been mixed with house or boxed sake. It wasn't the sweet and buttery sake I was expecting. The sushi wasn't better. It was flavorless. 1 sake, 2 premium rolls and 2 standard rolls and our bill was 65$ plus tip. We were hungry and craving sushi when we happened upon this place. We were greeted and sat right away, very friendly and our server was awesome. The sushi unfortunately was ehh. Just ok. Nothing that blew us away or tasted great. The soy sauce was extra salty, the wasabi wasn't hot at all and the ginger had a funny taste to it. For $100 lunch for 2 we were pretty disappointed. We eat at King Kong Sushi every time we come to the beach. The food is always on point and service is always great. But a few days ago when we came, we had the BEST experience so far (and that's saying a lot). If every restaurant had a Marcus, they'd be thriving. Marcus went above and beyond...not only did he keep a check on us in a very crowded setting, he also went as far as to make toys for my 7 month old nephew to play with to keep him entertained. As an avid sushi eater and traveling from New York, I must say I have been rather spoiled with quality sushi, but this falls far from it. A friend of mine, who lives in the area told me that this is as good as sushi gets in South Carolina; "A local favorite" .....my heart breaks for the people of South Carolina. 4 stars on location: The restaurant itself is very lovely, great for large groups and cozy enough to for a date. The decor was not overwhelming and maintain a classy look. Most of all, it was super clean. The staff made it a point that each table was spotless and garbage was not left on the table. 1 star on the food: We came with a group of four and decided to "family style " it and order an assortment of appetizers and rolls to try. Edamame: could have used some more salt. Eel sauce ( I like to use for my Edamame) : I don't understand how they try to pass this as an eel sauce when in reality it would be more of a watery-brown sugar sauce ? It was way to sweet and the consistency is completely off. Beef Negimaki: traditionally this dish would be broiled strip of beef rolled in negi (scallions) but this restaurant replaces the scallions with cream cheese. I would not agree that it is a good idea. The cream cheese over powers the beef, masking a potentially good favor. Russian Roulette Roll: the "spicy sauce" did not compliment the salmon at all. Left an odd bitter taste in your mouth Tuna Mania Roll: My favorite roll of the night! Super delicious combination of seared tuna and Ponzu sauce!! So glad we ordered two of those ! I would highly recommend it. Needham Roll: It was just okay. The blended all together. No name Roll: Their "eel sauce" made the roll way to moist; aside from being to loosely rolled, the moisture had the rice sticking to the plate and not the seaweed. Roll: spicy mayo was atrocious, It ruined the whole roll!! At first I thought there was white baby food on ... I can't even find something else to compare the taste to -- this roll also lacked a fish. The tempura flakes packed out the whole roll. I would avoid. We ordered a few other but I do not remember the name nor were we even told which roll is which (commonly done in every other sushi restaurant that I have ever went to) -- the waitress just dropped the plate and walked away. Overall: while the food is aesthetically appealing, the taste not to much. Amazing Sushi. Got the Nigiri deluxe for $25 that included 12 pieces of nigiri and a set of salmon sushi. The entire thing was incredible although a bit expensive but that's to be expected with nicer sushi restaurants. This is the first stop for a night out at Broadway when I'm in Myrtle. Can't confirm if they still have it but we would go for 1/2 price drinks for an hour and we would all grab some small food items to fill up before heading to the bars. I'll usually grab a roll or two. The ones wrapped in cucumber are pretty good but you still want some regular rolls to go with. The sushi is good and it's a great meetup spot to grab a bite and a few drinks before heading out. Late at night they turn more into a night club which I'm not a fan of. They blast the music so loud but they're still seating people for dinner etc... It doesn't really makes sense. read more

I have eaten here for 15 years. We get take out every week or so and have done so literally 40-50x a year with take out orders that are usually about $150 each meal. The food is always good and we pick up our order from the bar. Sarah has been an amazing bartender and server for years. I always tip even though I am just picking up food placed in a bag. Recently, they have a policy that charges 18% on any take out order over $100. The last two times I have been there I was automatically charged 18% to my bill without asking. I paid $28.44 service fee tonight on a $158 bill and thats before tax. My total bill was over $200. I completely agree that you should not pick up a takeout order without leaving a reasonable tip. However, to pay $28-$29 to pick up my meal when I wash my dishes, I refill my drink, I clean up the table, and I drive there to get my food is simply ridiculous. I am told this is the new policy. Based on that I will not be going back. I routinely tip 20-25% for my meals when I eat at a restaurant and even give 18% when it's a disaster because I respect what the servers deal with. Keep in mind if I spend $95 I don't get an automatic charge of 18% but if I spend %150 I pay over $25 regardless if the order is correct etc. Very bad management decision for what has always been the #1 staple carryout dinner in my family since I moved to Myrtle Beach in 2010. I have a habit of finding all the local sushi places when I am on vacation so of course I had to check this place out. To begin, you should know that King Kong is located in Broadway at the Beach. But don't worry about missing it, the place is huge! And not only is the place huge, so is the menu! I have never seen so many speciality rolls in my entire life. They all looked so good and I was slightly tempted to just order them all. After much deliberation, my mom and I ended up splitting the Sunset Roll, Tuna Mania Roll, and the Hurricane Roll. Out of the 8 rolls that my group shared, we only had two disappointments. I was disappointed to find out that any roll described as "crab" (with the exception of the soft shell crab) was actually imitation "krab" Also disappointing was the 113, Golden Boy Roll. Visiting the area I was instructed to visit the king king sushi location after checking into my hotel. This was indeed a great choice. I chose to have the chicken and shrimp hibachi entrée. The chicken in the dish was a little dry (unexpected), however the shrimp and rice was really good. The calamari was good as well. For some reason the green tea was tasty but not hot enough. We continued to ask for hot water, which never seem to be hot enough. The waitress was very nice, attentative and accommodating. Otherwise, the ambience was nice. Being that this location is located in a tourist area, I feel this has much to do with the preparing of the food as well. Overall, the experience was good and will return when visiting SC. read more
