This was definitely among the best sushi we've ever eaten. Prices are appropriate and the options are practically endless. Our cocktails were tasty and definitely not weak. Not pictured is the Tori Maki appetizer which was creative and rich but the pico on was fresh and sweet. We had the Nigiri Starter and all the pieces looked and tasted incredibly fresh. The Frosty Roll was a great balance of sweet and salty with the mango/shrimp tempura combo. The teriyaki beef topped Bulgoki, Tuna Mania and Spicy Oyster Rolls were all as delicious as they were inventive. What we really appreciated was our server, Ashley. We chose both her suggestions and were really impressed. She was personable and patient as we looked through the extensive menu, too. Had a great meal there with friends last night. Most of us ordered one of the habachi dinners (fyi, they do not do the cooking in front of you, it's prepared in the kitchen). Each of our meals tasted great and the food was cooked to the desired temperature. A few in our group ordered rolls and they loved them. I also looked at all the different plates being served to other tables and everything looked amazing. We ordered edamame, tuna ceviche,shrimp tempura, hamachi carpaccio. Rolls: Daddy's girls, Rocket roll. Russian Roulette roll, Shrimp tempura roll, Volcano roll. Rolls were not drizzled with any sauce, fish was not fresh. The hamachi carpaccio tasted extremely fishy like it had gone bad. King Kong sushi has fallen so fast and so far, pretty sure it will never be the go to sushi place at myrtle beach that it once was. First sign should have been there was NOBODY there. First week of June and one is in your sushi restaurant . The service was great. Lots of I'm sorry and this never happens. BOTH my wife and I got different rolls and BOTH had plastic wrap in them! No lie. Actual plastic wrap. Pretty much ruined our meal. They offered us different rolls and took those rolls off our tab. You only get a few restaurant meals while on vacation and King Kong WASTED one of mine. We will never come back. It was a tradition for our family to eat here every year. When I attended Coastal Carolina University, just down the road from this location, coming to King Kong was a regular thing. Now when I'm back in town, it's one of the first places I go. Awesome sushi with a huge menu. The best roll by far is the "No Name" Roll. (I believe it's the last one on the menu.) Everything about this roll is perfect. King Kong has awesome happy hours, drink specials, and sushi. I have never had a bad experience and would highly recommend to you if you're in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area. read more

The Shrimp Tempura crunch roll was one of the best shrimp tempura rolls in a long time. Service was polite. AC colder than needed, but that's old news in this country. Sushi bar, drinking bar, booths, high tables, low tables. Happy hour 4-7pm. Discounted food, not just drinks. It's a nice dining space. I like the picture of the big King Kong monkey face on the wall. One of the few non-fried Lard-Lad dining options on Broadway in the park. Being from the NJ/NY area, where we have some absolutely outstanding sushi, I was not completely impressed with the sushi, but this is definitely a cool place for a younger crowd to grab a drink and some sushi. If you are really into just having sushi, I would recommend looking around, mainly because of the sushi rice. Direct from the name of this place you should first know the rolls here are HUGE! I scoured Yelp to help find a true sushi bar and this was the best of the lot. For good reason too because the place was just perfect. The rolls were great and I couldn't be more impressed. Sadly this is my first negative review ever- and it took ALOT for me to post. I have been in the food/hospitality industry all my life and nothing went right about our recent dining experience here. While I think the Carolina Forest location is great, their Broadway location is horrible- food, service, etc. The food is not fresh and is not even comparable to their other location. Our server, Samantha K, did not care. The shrimp Hibatchi (just to name one issue) was old and overcooked- was not edible, and there was a small, COOKED BUG in the dish- it was brought to the attention of our server and she did nothing, and we were still charged for the meal although she took it and tossed it. Once dinner was served, she also never came to check on our table until the end. I'm assuming the reason is because gratuity is added to 4 or more people (and again, I'm in the business and am a wonderful tipper), I have never been to a restaurant that adds gratuity to that small of a party- and I truly believe this is why the food isn't on par because why would a server care if they are getting tipped anyway? We spent over $170 and the restaurant was empty, so no excuse not to try and rectify the situation at all. We are local, repulsed, and will sadly never go back. read more

I booked a hotel for a 1 night business trip, where I knew there was a japanese hibachi & sushi bar right next door by foot. So driving from Charlotte NC, looking forward to some fish and/or sushi for dinner, wouldn't you know it.... the restaurant was closed, apparently it seemed for good. Total bummer!! I didn't want to drive far since the sky's opened up with rain/thunder/lightning and so within less than a mile I came across King Kong Sushi. I really enjoy sushi but can not say that I am an expert. I just know that I love seafood and for sushi: tuna, salmon, and eel the most :) I was determined to have some fish tonight! I was impressed with the atmosphere. With the dark tinted front windows, you never know what the inside is going to look like. Opened the doors and it was spacious with tasteful lighting, decor, and very neat & clean. They had a large bar and friendly staff. I was only going to have food to-go, so I sat at the bar. There were 3 young adults at the bar and that kept the bartender busy with their experimental "shots". She was still very attentive and friendly with me, however. I arrived also at a slow period between late lunch and early dinner, so it was not busy. I can imagine, however, that this could be a fun place to hang out. Picture it? Atmosphere, drinks, and finger food.... perfect! The menu is extensive and I love that they have pictures and a nice description of their different rolls/ specialty maki's. They serve dinners (cooked meat/fish) too along with pictures - which is nice if someone is not into raw fish. I am impressed with the take out I received because of the portions relative to the price I paid. I did notice that they have daily specials and the night I arrived, it was 20% off all fish orders. I ended up ordering some appetizer shrimp shumai & tuna tataki. I also ordered their chilean sea bass dinner. The Shumai was rather mushy; I am used to munching on firmer pieces of minced shrimp. And the side sauce was rather oily. The tuna tataki was grilled adequately. I like it raw in the middle which it was. The slices were very thin but overall, it was a good appetizer portion but perhaps just slightly overpriced. For the amount, I would expect to pay maybe $8-$9 not $12. They did include sliced ginger, wasabi, and shredded turnip with the tataki. The Chilean Sea Bass Dinner was very satisfying. The sea bass was simply steamed with a "special" sauce over it, but the 3 fish portions was very generous and was "sufficiently fresh". I am not sure if it may have been frozen but I can usually tell... the fish still flaked easily and chewed "fresh" not frozen and there was no smell. In all honesty... I think that if I had "ate in" rather than take out, I suspect the meal would have been even better. Perhaps it was just slightly overcooked being in a take out box. The sea bass laid on a bed of asparagus with a topping of cooked spinach - wonderful :) The sea bass, asparagus, and spinach was all I needed and tasted great. I didn't need the miso soup, white rice, and a small garden salad that came with it. Since this dinner was 20% off, resulting at $18 - a great deal. Next time, and notice I said next time.... I will likely try their sushi or sashimi and ohhh... maybe their hibachi! Some of the other reviews say that it isn't the best sushi they ever had but perhaps the "king kong" implies the portions will satisfy a king kong appetite? read more

I went here with my husband last weekend and was pleasantly surprised. They have a large sushi menu but also options for those who aren't into that. We ordered the sushi boat special which was had a small order of edamame, an appetizer, 2 soups or salads, 2 nigiri, 4 rolls of sushi and a dessert. That was easily enough food for 4 people and all for about 50 dollars before tax and tip. (Check out the pictures, I posted a few). In my opinion it was a great deal but since I've lived in northern Virginia where the same amount of food would've cost double what we paid, I'm not going to complain. The service was friendly and patient. It took us a while to decide on what we wanted. Their menu is rather extensive so if you can, check out their website first. They have pretty much their full menu online with pictures. I haven't tried their location in Broadway at the Beach but I would imagine that since this is a little more out of the way that it'd have a calmer atmosphere. read more

I drove 2.5 hours to go to the sushi restaurant specifically. It is AMAZING. No other words can describe how incredible the food was.

Large selection of sushi. My group got ginger salad, miso soup, an Atlantic roll, 2 spicy tuna rolls, and a yellowtail roll for lunch. The food tasted good, and our server, Brittany, was nice about letting us take our time to order and eat. We kind of liked the dim lighting and darker ambience (good place if you have gotten your eyes dilated recently!). Convenient parking. But if you are in a wheel chair or have a disability, we did not see a table where you could sit comfortably due to the high-top style. The restroom mirror looked grody like it came out of a college freshman hall-style bathroom with toothpaste all over. Yuck! Sink nozzle and faucet were equally gross. read more

Our family has lived here for 10 years, and we know King Kong sushi has been around for a long time, so we decided to go for dinner last night. I was really underwhelmed with our meals yesterday, but most noticeably, during COVID times, I was really surprised with the lack of caution taken during our visit. Tables were not distanced. Not all, but many servers were not wearing masks correctly, and the worst offense to me was the fact that my server was putting silverware into all of our dishes before serving it to the table. This is a health violation even in non-covid times. The silverware was also dirty and it was clear that it was not polished/wiped down after returning from the dish pit. I have worked many years in the service industry and polishing/checking silver after it comes out of dish is basic cleaning practices. I don't know the restaurants policy for silver during covid but I'm pretty sure putting in the guests food before it comes out is not it. Tables were sticky and my daughters shrimp hibachi plate smelled gross. I will not be returning to this location. read more

Have been enjoying the food at King Kong (Carolina Forest) for 15 years. I started my kids eating sushi here when they were 4 & 6 and they're now 19 and 21 and this remains our favorite sushi restaurant. Yes, it can be busy, but that's because it's the best sushi in Myrtle and it's the best sushi I have ever had, so to me it's worth the wait. I've had friends turn their nose up to the thought of sushi, but I beg them to try the Crunch Crab Salad Roll and they are sold. Tonight was slammed, waited for a table (10 minutes) and was fortunate to have Lacey as our server, she was/is amazing!!! It really makes a great impression on me when I'm in a busy restaurant and my server is trying to make sure she makes every table feel like a priority. Lacey, your service this evening was top notch and Blu and I will be back to see you soon! You did a GREAT JOB taking care of us!! Even though I called Lacey out, this evening, for her wonderful service, I have never once had a bad experience with any staff at either location. I just prefer CF because Broadway is so touristy. The prices were okay and the food my partner ate wasn't bad. I was disappointed that ingredients not included on the menu were put into the food. NOT COOL, what if someone had a food allergy? I ended up sending the food back and wasn't happy with the attitude the waitress gave me. I said I didn't want the food anymore yet she brought it back out and I cannot stand when food is wasted. Just the whole vibe of the place was off for me. Honestly it looked like they just brought out the same food from before but took the sauce off, which is so unappealing. Shame on this place for adding ingredients not listed, update the menu or make it right. The only reason I am not giving this place a lower rating is that my partner really enjoyed her food and like I said the price was reasonable. This place is located on the broadway which was perfect for us! We wanted to shop around and eat. I saw that it was voted best sushi in Myrtle beach, so why not? When you walk in you are greeted by a host. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful. I don't really eat sushi, so my brothers girlfriend ordered majority of our rolls. For appetizer we got seaweed salad and beef tataki. Seafood salad was fresh and amazing. The beef tataki was definitely my favorite though, it was Smokey, cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of sauces. Onto the rolls, usually a regular roll comes with 6 pieces. But theirs come in about 8-10 pieces which is more than enough! We did order sashimi, which was my first time trying. Their sashimi is so amazing, it just melts in your mouth. Went with guarded optimism based on reviews since I had not had good experiences with strip mall sushi spots. Mixed decor, sports bar vibe with over half the restaurant featuring high top tables didn't improve my hope. Ordered a combination Maki platter for 2, a Nigiri deluxe platter and a steak and shrimp hibachi plate for the one person who won't eat sushi. Sushi is pretty standard when it comes to freshness. It's always important to not have that "fishy" smell or taste to it! My only complaint is portion and size of the rolls are not equal to the price you pay, a little on the small side. Other then that it's pretty good. King kong has some tasty rolls and I'm from New York so I've got some experience with American fusion sushi. Beautiful plating combined with delicious flavor combinations. I've been here a few times since moving to the area and the only problem I have is with the service. This place is filled with big tip motivated stuck-up entitled college girls. The worst server I've ever had was at this restaurant, Pepper. Sounds like a cartoon or fake stripper name but anyhow...she was uncomfortably fake and insincere with the service she provided to my company and I. Walking straight by our table multiple times, seeming more concerned with talking to the other servers. It's pathetic to me how management could allow such a phony, clueless, socially unaware server handle such beautiful plates of food.
