I have been here several times and the service is always great, although sometimes a little slow, so don't come here in a hurry unless you have called ahead. This is one of the best places in Nashville to get Pho . They have a steady stream of customers flowing through at all times of the day but there is a reason for this, the food is amazing and extremely reasonably priced. I have never had a bad meal or bad service in all of the 10 or so visits we have made here. There isn't much more I can say about this place other than DON'T judge a book by its cover you will be sorry. If you give this place a try you will not be disappointed. Food was dry for both dishes, not much sauce. Because my pad kee Mao had little to no sauce, the flavors never blended. The individual flavors were OK, but there was no connection between them. As for the pad Thai, it seemed like a pre packaged meal you would heat up in the microwave. Unfortunately, I've become an Asian food snob after eating so many times in Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok, and the respective Chinatowns of L.A., San Francisco, and New York. Once you've had the best of the best, it's hard to be impressed. King Market is an interesting place. You walk about halfway back into the King Market grocery store and look to your right and suddenly a cafe, packed with a highly diverse crowd of people, opens up before your very eyes. Even at 2:00 in the afternoon, you'll wait in a long line to be seated, not for a lack of tables but because the understaffed restaurant has one lady at the checkout and one waitress struggling to cover all the patrons. At least the food comes out fast, well, after waiting a half hour for the waitress to take my order. And I'm totally okay with a wait if such a place has great food! A hidden eatery known only to locals with high ratings tucked into a nondescript market? That's right up my alley! Only one problem: these mysteriously high ratings don't seem to match the food. I'm a huge fan of anything panang; beef, chicken, shrimp, whatever, and I've had some amazing panang around the world! This was the strangest panang I've ever eaten in my life, with a gritty texture, surprisingly lacking flavor, not nearly spicy enough, and with beef that was quite average. Even worse, it was lukewarm and not steaming hot. The fresh veggies were the only highlight. The "Fry Squid" as they call it was not the calamari to which I'm accustomed, with a concrete-like crispy batter and an extremely chewy interior. I LOVE anything and everything extra crispy, and I waffled between "someone finally made something crispy enough for me!" and "I'm going to need dental work when I crack a tooth!" The exterior was just too hard to enjoy. The sticky rice was kind of sticky, as it should be, but it was simultaneously mushy which wasn't good. Every halfway decent Thai place has mastered the art of making perfect sticky rice, except this place. I think it's worth visiting once just for the novelty of it. The menu has tremendous variety and prices are reasonable, but it's just not amazing enough to visit on a regular basis. I stopped in for lunch during the weekday and King Market definitely earns it's reviews. I'm still looking for my go-to curry place in Nashville, and KM is a top contender. I ordered the egg rolls and green curry soup (it comes with a side of rice). The egg rolls came out pretty quickly, which is to be expected a little since I don't expect them freshly making them per order, but indicate that it had been sitting out maybe for sometime. The green curry came about 10minutes later. First off, it's a big serving! I usually opt for red curry because that's what I'm most familiar with, but king market does not have a spice scale and red is generally spicy. I do not do spicy, so I had to order green which is generally milder. To my surprise, I enjoyed the green curry! It was light, but filling and had nice flavors. For me, it still had a little kick, but nothing that needed rescuing from. Within the 45 minutes I was there, at least 30 more patrons of all different ethnicities and ages came in for lunch. For such a small place, I was surprised by all this support. And happy for them! Definitely support them and check them out! And if you're braver than just wanting curry, they had quite a few interesting options on their menu. read more

PSA: Nashville's best hidden treasure. Thai restaurant hidden in the back on a little Asian grocery store in Antioch, and you won't want to miss this place. It's authentic, it's unique, and it's the best darn Thai food I've had in Nashville to date. A little out of the way for this West Nashville girl, but so worth the drive. Once you get there it's easy peasy parking. You walk through the grocery aisles to the back where this gem is tucked in so cozily. We ordered the egg rolls to start then shared the Paneng and Green Curry soup, both came with rice. Shared a fresh coconut to sip on, which they crack right in front of you at the table. The food had such delicious flavor. Paneng was my favorite as it had a bit more of a kick, but my date preferred the Green Curry which was milder and had more of that coconut flavor. You can't go wrong here. They also had a noodle dish with fried pork belly that I will definitely be ordering next time. I have now lived in Nashville for 10 years and can honestly say this is by far my favorite restaurant in town and I drive almost 20 miles to get there from my home. Complex and build able flavors and I love it. To see that they had some Malay inspired dishes was great as I've travelled all throughout Malaysia and missed some staple foods. I ordered Spring/Summer rolls(can't remember), Pad Thai, and Pad Malaysian. All were fantastic and if I had to rank them 1. Pad Malaysian 2.Rolls 3. Pad Thai. The peanut dipping sauce was delish! And the sausage in the Malay dish was everything! Now I am someone who likes a fire in my mouth so I asked them to make my food hotter than the hottest level, which is native I believe. Now the spice was perfect a nice nose run but nothing inedible though I will say the heat come from dry chili which did considerably change the texture so I may scale down just because of that next time. I was most excited about this restaurant when I found it on Yelp, it sounded like my kind of place! I convinced my husband to drive 45 minutes to take us there for dinner last night. When we got there, there were four other parties waiting to be seated behind us. After a long wait, the server came to our table and in my excitement, I told her this is our first time trying food from Laos, I do not know if I said something wrong with my statement but she said she will be right back and proceeded to take care of the other tables that were seated after us. She took their orders, brought them their appetizers and then only finally came to our table! We were already so uncomfortable by that point. We ordered the fresh coconut water, Malaysian noodles, Papaya Salad and Panang Curry. Out of everything we ordered Papaya salad was the only thing I liked. They made it super spicy just as I wanted and it was delicious. Malaysian Noodles were just ok and the Panang Curry, I had such high hopes but it was just overwhelmingly loaded with so much broccoli and carrots that we couldn't enjoy it. At 1st glance the market seems like a mini fortress complete with a set of steel bars lining the door and windows. As I start to read the exterior signs on the building I see international food, Western union, Asian market, 24K jewelry, Thai and Lao café. Now I'm really intrigued and definitely got to check this place out. When you walk in it looks like your typical Asian supermarket with aisles stocked with dry goods like ramen, snack chips, can goods and your typical Asian supermarket fare. As you walk towards the rear of the store to your right you will discover this little gem of a restaurant. The menu has pictures which is always a good visual to give you an idea what your plate should look like. I was impressed with the menu and the many varieties they offered and was going to order more than two people could humanely eat, so it took a lot of inner chi, mental anguish and my buddy yelling at me to stand down. We did order the following: 1. Paneng chicken wings as an appetizer, delicious savory thick curry that is "Finger licking good!" Sorry Colonel Sanders! :) my only gripe for this dish is the wing tips are left on. 2. Deep fried pork intestines - I loved this dish, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, it may be a little funky for some people to try, but once you do, you'll be hooked! Just think of it as Asian calamari. 3. Red curry with beef - Thick curry with beef, vegetables and basil that was sweet and delicious. I can taste the coconut milk and palm sugar. Good thing we ordered two big bowls of rice since we made sure every grain of rice soaked up all that curry yumminess! 4. We washed everything down with Thai ice tea and fresh coconut juice served in the shell itself. King Market may be classified as a "Dive" by some people but the food is far from it. The portions are generous, the price is a steal for this type of cuisine and the service was spot on. The market may be called King, but the real King and Queen is the restaurant. Other places are too salty, this is just right. I got the fried rice, lad nah, and pad Malaysian. It's located next to Walgreens. At first you think you're at the wrong place because you see a small market and wouldn't think there would be a restaurant inside. That's probably why they call it a cafe. The restaurant is kinda tucked in the back of this Asian supermarket (don't forget stock up on shin ramen and yakult) and looks like ur typical pho place. Lots of seating available! I ordered the kasoy and spring roll. Spring roll - wow I was surprised! Super fresh shrimp /pork spring roll with basil and cilantro. This tasted just as good as the spring rolls you find here in Cali! Kasoy - this one tasted a little different than to my liking. Heavy on the soy sauce base, salty, but full of umami. The taste was a little overpowering at first, but it eventually grew on me :) the noodles however were pretty dead and not chewy at all. Overall I was pretty surprised to find Asian food out here having already prepared my body to consume nothing but subways and fast food if it comes down to it. Great place for an informal, extremely casual place to get your Thai food on. The Pho actually looked and tasted like Pho! Most of the Pho I've had in TN has been disappointing to say the least. This dish had the requisite bean sprouts, chili pepper and fresh basil plate, plus the small platter with all of the pepper and fish sauces so you can put the right heat into the soup.
