This restaurant is always friendly with us. My wife and I go as a reward it has become our favorite Asian cuisine restaurant in Killeen and we've tried most of them. The food was always superb no matter what I ordered to include the spicy pork soup , general tso chicken or the pork buns the steamed dumplings I can't think of anything I've tried here that I didn't love. I'm thoroughly convinced people who poorly review this restaurant are confusing it for somewhere else. I'm sorry, but this place has really gone down hill over the last 2 years... not sure if it's new management or cook staff. Beware of the margaritas, the overly sweet Thai iced tea, the tempura options, and the miso soup.... among other lack luster dishes. All items above were the worst I have ever tasted during my last visit and we're talking the worst ever... anywhere. I have just found a new comfort food restaurant! Growing up in southern California in the early 70s, the vast majority of my friends were Vietnamese or Korean, so I grew up with the food their mothers would make. This reminded me of those days rather strongly. I've been three times now, all at lunch. Is it perfect? Well, no. So let's start with the bad so we can get to the good! I'd say at the top of the bad list is the sushi prices. Not horrid, but more than I'd like to pay. Also, the shashimi plate we got, while tasty, was by no means better than average. Also, this is not a large, fancy restaurant. This seems to be a family run joint, with a lot of home-grown touches. I don't count this as bad, but someone might. Hand-drawn murals, a bit of Micky Mouse artwork here and there, paper napkins...that sort of thing. Again, I like it, but others may expect more. Now for the good! Yay! I -like- the lovely handpainted murals, the gorgeous wood-carved statuettes at the entry, and the stone-topped tables. For food, I have only great praise for the Vietnamese dishes I've had! I've had the lemongrass beef with white rice (com dia), the flank steak pho, and the lemongrass beef vermicelli (bun) now, and all satisfied. The lemongrass beef is my favorite, I admit, and has been since my childhood. The rice was perfect...fluffy, separate, absolutely beautiful. The bun sported a bit more lettuce than I like and a bit less carrot, but other than that was spectacular. The pho was my least favorite, which I cannot blame on the King Noodle people. The broth was clearly home-made stock based, as thick as a good consomme but subtly seasoned. Super-fresh sides with the pho too, so very impressive there. I must remember personally to say 'No Cilantro, please!" next time, because they dump a good tablespoon atop it. I hate cilantro with an abiding passion, but that's my bad, not theirs. Now, if I could give the service itself five stars, I would. The staff is kind, warm, and just the right amount of attentive. I felt like a child again eating dinner at a friend's house. I felt warm, comforted, and welcome. To me, that's worth huge amounts. So, overview...the Japanese food is overpriced and merely okay in quality. The Vietnamese food is excellent! The service is outstanding, particularly if one expects more of a Mom and Pop shop type atmosphere rather than high-class. I will go back there, most certainly, and often. $10 for a massive bowl of lemongrass beef vermicelli and a glass of jasmine iced tea, along with a helping dose of warm welcome is well worth the cost. read more

Not fresh. Tastes like stale, defrosted food. I took a gamble by ordering a sushi roll at a Vietnamese restaurant.... it sucked. If a roll falls over and breaks apart when you touch it = bad sushi roll. HEB sushi rolls are a better purchase than the rolls at King Noodle. The beef pho was terrible, noodles included. Very upset. Ordered over $50 worth of food and half of it not eaten due to the smell. It reeked of tobacco smoke. Not sure if it was the oil used or just second-hand smoke from the kitchen, but the prominent cigarette scent made my soup unappetizing. Server trips when placing bowl of noodles on table, hot noddles cover mom and burn legs, shattered bowl hits the baby in a carrier. I go out of my way to give you guys a second chance, then devote valuable time to writing a favorable review of your establishment, and the "thanks" I get is this insulting bit of garbage? You know what I'm talking about, but to the folks who don't, here's the deal: Shortly after my King Noodle review was posted, I noticed another review blatantly plagiarizing the positive parts of my review. That review was written by a guy in Virginia, with a newly-created profile, no photo, and only one review - the one plagiarizing mine. Now, really - what are the odds that some random clown in Virginia decided to create a Yelp account to review a newly-opened noodle place in a small strip mall in Cedar Park, TX? And even in the remote chance that this guy has actually BEEN to King Noodle (twice, if you believe his review), then he should have his own experiences to write about. Even without knowing the specifics, I can rest reasonably assured that the review I'm talking about is a bullshit review prompted at least to some degree by someone at King Noodle. I expect that review to eventually go away through the magic of the Yelp "flagging" tool, but I'll preserve it here for posterity so that everyone can understand the depths of absurdity here (compare it my original review and you'll see what I'm talking about): Posted by: Jim J. These folks are new - so I am trying to be patient and more generous with my review. The first time I went by, they could not seat us because they had run out of food. This is fine - it's a new restaurant and they are working out the kinks. The second time we gave it a try, no issues with seating or service. But, I have to say ... I was not impressed with the quality of the food. The Miso soup was terrible -- very strong flavored and salty. Perhaps, they used too much miso paste? I had the Pho w/ shrimp. Everything - food, service, staff - was mediocre, but I have a friend who lives near it that wanted to check it out so I gave it a second chance. 2nd visit didn't change my mind. My friend's pork vermicelli was fair. My order came 25 minutes after hers. A couple of apologies from the waitress but no offer to discount or give a free dessert or anything. What is there to say about 'King' Noodle? "Ladies and Gentlemen, the King has left the building..." There really is no "King" of Noodles here. Perhaps we should call it Prince or Duke Noodle instead. The better half and I are on a mission to try new things and the new Duke Noodle was on a short list of new restaurants in the area to try. We arrived at about 7 p.m. and found it empty. It wasn't a weekend, but come on, totally empty at 7 p.m.? Perhaps its the holiday. Someone must know something I don't. O,K, I'm not one to panic and we sit at one of the empty booths admiring the Asian tchotchke along the front wall. The waiter arrives and I give him the opportunity to bring us the best of the Duke. "Bring us the best items from your menu", I say. "What's the best you have?" He recommends the pork with white rice and as an appetizer, the King Roll sushi as the best. Not the Pho, not the Noodles...the pork and a western roll...a crunchy roll, deep fried tempura-style, topped with sweet sauce. Personally, i prefer actual fresh sushi to fried rolls, but i figure when it comes to a first visit, an employee has got to know best. Unfortunately, I should have never taken the recommendation. The crunchy roll arrived and imagine my surprise to find potato and bacon mixed in with a sweet sauce. Bacon and potato. I took one taste and pushed it away. And the pork, well let's just say it was the gameiest slice of pork I've ever had the displeasure trying. How can I give you an idea of the sensation of eating candied pork? I know. Think of the sweet sauce served on yams at Thanksgiving. Have you got the taste in your head? Good. Now instead of yams, think of pork, adding it's a thin sliced and fatty piece of meat. Now, smother the candied sauce all over the meat. There's just nothing like the taste of candied fat with a mild hint of pork in there. (Emphasis is on the kidding, here. It was really not good.) No, sorry, re: waiter's recommendation -- not great, not good, not mediocre. Not for me. Perhaps I'll return and try something else I might like. Perhaps not. After waiting patiently for this place to open up we finally got a taste of it and the best way to describe our experience was anticlimactic. The place itself is nice and clean. Even the restrooms are nice. But I wasn't there to hang out in the restrooms, right? Let me continue with the positive side of things. The wait staff was friendly. They gave us a coupon to come back.... Um.... Don't know if we'll be using that. Our food was out pretty quickly. Now for what sucked thus only two stars. The prices were a little high for the amount of food you get. The skimped on the portions. I ordered noodles with chicken but got served very little chicken. VERY LITTLE CHICKEN! In addition to the microscopic chicken, the food was bland. My husband ordered a Pho and it wasn't very good. They also skimped on his beef. The spring rolls were sloppy and came undone as you bit into them. I hate when that happens ( I feel the same way about tacos....Kerrby Lane). This was our first time at King Noodle,on a Saturday night, around 7p.m. There was plenty of parking available to go along with an attractive building exterior well lit and easy to find location in Cedar Park.Inside we were immediately seated. The interior opens up into a lot bigger seating area than I was imagining with a bar and hostess station fronting the kitchen.Original painted murals depicting Asian pastoral life were a nice touch. The friendly attractive waitress immediately arrived with menus and departed shortly with our app.order of crab rangoons and Sapporo Beer. As we got acquainted with the menu our server returned with rangoons and a small bowl of sweet sauce. Our request for spicy mustard was efficiently fulfilled but arrived devoid of much spice and little taste.The rangoons however were expertly rendered with an actual crab taste immersed in a gooey cream-cheese filling and encrusted in a golden fried dumpling. My wife ordered the char-broiled beef (bun) vermicelli and I had the Pho Chin ( beef soup with lean steak). I am a pho veteran of several years and I was very impressed with this version.The broth's complexity and richness belied a keen eye to details in the kitchen.The beef was seasoned and cooked unto itself, not included as an afterthought add on as is the case with a lot of pho dishes.The monster bowl arrived with sweet basil,jalapenos,cilantro,lime and a pile of bean spouts for garnish. Hoisin and chili sauce were available on table. After doctoring the bowl with all that was offered I was in pho heaven. My wife's char-broiled beef bun was also a hit. They didn't skimp on the beef portion and the mostly tender beef was well marinated and not over-cooked.The bun arrived in a large bowl accompanied by egg rolls, fresh bean sprouts, chopped cucumber, lettuce, pickled carrot, peanuts and fried green onions in vegetable oil paired with a nicely balanced sweet vinaigrette, and all served on a bed of vermicelli noodles.And although the wife was impressed,she was still on the stairway but not exactly in heaven. I've eaten here on and off since they opened, mainly because it's close to my home. I learned awhile back that the only good thing on the menu is the Pho soup and the fried eggrolls. Today I made the mistake of diverging from this plan and ordered a vermicelli dish in addition to the Pho. It was horrible, I don't know how you can make the meat so oily, hard, and tasteless. I live 10 minutes from King Noodle and I eat there often. I work from home so I often go there for lunch and occasionally we take the whole family for dinner. The things I order here are very good but there are many things I would never order at King Noodle. Its a Vietnamese restaurant that tries to serve sushi, Vietnamese, and Chinese food. So I think they've over extended themselves a little bit. If you stick with the stuff thats really in their wheelhouse the food is good. The Good: Pho - quite good and certainly the best in this area, I've had better but like I said its good here Vermicelli Dishes - Very good, lemongrass beef vermicelli is awesome Stir Fry Dishes - basil chicken, ginger chicken, etc all very good. I don't like their beef stir fry dishes sometimes the beef is not great Not So Great: Noodle dishes like lo mein mongolian beef (veggie is mostly celery?) Wouldn't even try it: Sushi - they don't seem to sell a lot of sushi so its usually not a good idea to get sushi from a place like that. Go to a sushi restaurant if thats what you want. They are primarily a Vietnamese restaurant, so order Vietnamese (Pho, Vermicelli, basil chicken), or maybe some Chinese stir fry and you'll be happy. I don't understand why this place is rated so low. Their quality over a large range of regional specialties is amazing. I brought my entire work team here and EVERYONE was happy with the food. That is quite rare! Personal favorites are the Chicken Phu with Wontons, Clay Pots, Pad Thai, and the Combo Meat Vermicelli Bowl. I'm not a sushi person but my sushi snob friend gave it a surprised thumbs-up. The only downside is that they don't seem to get enough business to hire and hold onto a good server staff, so service can be a little slow. Absolutely worth it though. Miso soup is too salty and is not made correctly. Full of chicken stock and is missing the true flavor. It was good a few months ago. As soon as I sat down the waiter asked for my order. I told him " I just sat down". Mind you that this place is like a cemetery with a couple walking dead. I have read recent reviews. They are not good and I see why. When a food establishment skimps on the craft this happens. This place used to be good. I feel sorry for them but I can find better in this area. I wonder if the owner reads our reviews? I went to King Noodle several weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon and overall I had a good experience. Both the Pho and chicken noodle soup were tasty, not the best I have ever had but definitely not the worst. The service was good, and I used my 50% off appetizer coupon from the Community Impact paper on a tempura appetizer. The sushi prices did seem a bit high so we didn't order any. The decor was a bit funky but it is a casual place so who cares? I will go back again sometime soon. read more

There's a lot on the menu, tried the Vietnamese, Chinese, as well as the sushi, and it was all fresh and tasty. You also get good portions for the price.
