This was my second time dining here but this is my first review. First time here was with out-of-town friends and we only had cocktails and didn't dine. We talked about returning to dine but time passed and my guests were no longer in the US. Last week we returned for the first time and we had a fantastic meal. My favorite dish was the wagyu beef fried rice. It was fantastic, perfectly prepared and wonderfully seasoned. Without a doubt a complete and filling meal. We also shared the garlic seafood noodles, another fantastic dish with an abundant portion seafood. The shrimp was very flavorful and made the dish very special. Parking is easy in their private lot. I've been here about 9x now. This was definitely one of the better places in the southbay. HOWEVER, I will NEVER return again!!!! Upon arriving I felt like I was negotiated whether or not my reservation could be honored. Stood there for 10 min being asked if we would be able to leave by a certain time. We said yes, no problem, we came to eat and go not drink and hang out. The place was nearly empty at our time of arrival. Once the remainder of my party arrived, 3 adults and 5yr old, we were told next time to add her to the reservation. Like she was a paying adult ready to boil and cook her own food Apparently it was a big deal. Mind you, this isn't a full fledged all you can eat establishment. We sat, reviewed the new TERRIBLE menu options. No more "let us chose for you", prefix meals. Thats now reserved for lunch and weekends now. Not directed on what was the mist similar to that. Put our orders in. Waited a while. Broth came drinks came then some appetizers. Finally after about 20 min veggies and meats started to arrive. Started cooking our soups. Had to waive down the servers several times for napkins, refills, and our rice came 30 min later after we reminded them it didnt come out yet. It took way too much time and effort to get their attention. Midway through our meal, a worker came to the table with HOT WATER to add to our broth. HO5 WATER!!?? Why would I want to dilute my soup with WATER??? We collectively decided our meals were ruined and wanted to just pay the check and go. Even THAT took too long. We were a party of 5 adults and a child who drank water. We were charged an automatically included gratuity for the "big party" of $79. For the awful services, diluted food and added small child!!!! We were never given this info before hand and this is when we understood why they were adamant about us counting her as a 6th person. I'm so angry. I do not recommend this place, especially not for the awful service, diluted food and forceful added tax. read more

We initially came to King Plus Shabu Shabu for the $2 oyster happy hour, but ended up having such a great experience exploring the izakaya menu that we'll definitely be back. The oysters were extremely fresh, and we tried them both raw and freshly fried. We were told shipments from Japan typically arrive Wednesday or Thursday. We also had the scallops, shrimp, and wagyu beef skewers, but the surprise standout was the seared mackerel with ponzu and lemon sauce. Incredible. It was easily one of our favorite dishes of the night. The sake selection was another highlight. We got a preview of Moonbloom, which they're planning to add to the menu soon. It was clean, floral, smooth, and paired beautifully with the food. What really elevated the experience, though, was the hospitality. Owners Michelle, Ben, and David were all there and couldn't have been friendlier. You can tell they genuinely care about the food, the restaurant, and making sure everyone has a great time. We had such a great experience at king plus Shabu Shabu ! We were served by a nice sweet girl server I wish I got her name but she has blonde hair. She was so nice and explained the whole experience to us and told us recommendations and we ended up with the beef experience ! It was really good ! It came with a bowl of veggies and we both got udon. My bf got the tom yum flavor and I got the Sichuan flavor! I love the broth with the meal and the ponzu sauce and sesame sauce it came with! Each bowl came with veggies such as Napa cabbage, spinach, mushrooms, pumpkin, broccoli, tofu and noodles. She kept checking on us to make sure we were doing ok and refilling our drinks and everything tasted so good! Had a solid first experience here a few weeks ago when we decided on a whim to go and celebrate my brother's birthday. At first, I had my doubts as coming in as we had a reservation for 5 but took us awhile to get seated even though the restaurant was quite empty. What an amazing experience here from beginning to end! Loved the staff here. David and everyone else were amazing and really made it feel like home. There is a nice outdoor patio space to enjoy a breezy evening and cocktails, and there is plenty of seating inside for Shabu Shabu as well. They have happy hour specials and an impressive selection of cocktails! They also have a wide variety of sake and you can even choose a sake flight (highly recommended). We did get some yakitori to enjoy as an appetizer before getting to the main course. We did course A and course B because it was hard to choose between seafood or meat! A great quality shabu spot in an area of Torrance that doesn't have too many shabu options. Love that parking is a plentiful and free. You can't miss it, just look for the giant inflatable duck. Started the evening with happy hour on the patio, which was the perfect way to ease into dinner. We ordered the Shrimp Skewers, Wagyu Ribeye Yakitori, Pork Belly Yakitori, spicy edamame, the Yuzu Shochu Highball, and the Matcha Green Dragon. We also ordered Course B with the spicy miso soup base featuring jumbo shrimp, Japanese scallops, Atlantic salmon, and fish balls. Drove all the way from East LA to give this place a chance since their Best AYCE in South Bay ad caught our attention. Price was fair at 49/head for the offer in the image so we went. Guess what, we got there, sat down, and the menu they gave us was nothing like the ad. So we asked about the ad and they said it was an error, a mistake. Talk about false advertising, bait and switch, they wanted 89/head for the menu in the ad. That was extremely deceptive, in the end they said they could honor it, but we left instead for momo paradise and had an amazing AYCE for 35/head instead. Momo paradise was the best AYCE in the area, high quality meat, soda bar, ice cream... perfection. Responding to the owner comment below, please post your current menu for 49. I know the current 49 menu I saw in the restaurant that day only included beef belly, pork belly, chicken... not salmon, not shrimp, not scallop, not ribeye, not takoyaki, not calamari, pretty much nothing on that ad. Honestly feel like I've been going through a bit of a divide in terms of AYCE shabu shabu. Either it's all you can eat at a reasonable price and you exchange quality for quantity/value, or you pay a lot extra for quality. King Plus Shabu Shabu appears to be a rare place that strikes the right balance, get the basic AYCE menu for regular occasions (and a balance tiled more towards affordability), get the premium menu that includes ribeye and brisket for when quality is on your mind (and stomach). They are plenty large enough inside, have ample parking, and the additional portions of noodles/veggies are quite generous as well. We love going here, although they're a bit out of the way for us-- always fun to watch us all roll in from directions all across the map because some of us love the place that much. King Plus Shabu Shabu is so much more than just a hot pot restaurant. We started our evening on the outdoor patio with their bar menu, and it was the perfect way to kick off the meal. The house poke salad was fresh and flavorful, the pan-fried pork gyoza had a crispy exterior with a juicy filling, and the grilled jumbo scallop and shrimp skewers were cooked perfectly. The Wagyu ribeye yakitori was incredibly tender and full of smoky flavor. We also enjoyed the Lychee Mocktail and the 5 Sake Flight, which was a fun way to sample different styles of Japanese sake. After that, we headed inside for the hot pot experience. We tried four broths--Kombu, Tonkotsu, Spicy Miso, and Sukiyaki--and each one brought something different to the table. My favorite was the rich Tonkotsu, while the Kombu was perfect for letting the quality of the ingredients shine. For the meats, we ordered the Royal Beef Experience with ribeye, chuck roll, and beef belly, along with the Royal Seafood Set featuring shrimp, Atlantic salmon, fresh scallops, fish balls, and the chef's curated seafood selection. Everything was fresh and high quality. The standout of the night was the Japanese A5 Miyazaki Wagyu. The marbling was incredible, and after just a few seconds in the broth, it practically melted in my mouth. It was easily one of the best Wagyu experiences I've had. To finish the meal, we shared the matcha cheesecake and matcha ice cream, which were the perfect ending. Fantastic shabu shabu. We used to live in Redondo Beach and frequented this restaurant when they first opened. 11 years later or so and it's still phenomenal. Went on a Sunday for 5 pm early shabu dinner and I ordered seafood, scallops and shrimp without fish balls, gluten free / rice noodles, and it was all very yummy. My hubby ordered seafood shabu and enjoyed it all. Sister in law enjoyed seafood and only had shrimp. We celebrated our belated birthdays. I've been coming here for close to a decade, through different owners and different versions of the place. There was a stretch after the main ownership changed where I came back once and thought, absolutely not. It had fallen off hard. Recently I gave it another shot and it feels restored. The food is solid again and the meat is the reason to come. Whoever was cutting the meat on my last visit deserves credit because that part felt dialed in. Good quality, good cuts and the kind of meal that reminded me why I used to come here in the first place. Service was friendly, but a little slow and not always attentive. We had to keep asking for small things like napkins instead of someone noticing the table needed them. Not a disaster, just something that could be tighter. The room is still odd. There's a bar nobody seems to sit at, an awkward waiting area and an entrance setup that makes no sense when the door everyone naturally wants to use is blocked. A lovely shabu shabu place in a quiet shopping mall. I tried a set menu here which sometimes they call it omakase but it's basically set menu. I sat at the bar so it feels somewhat like course by course meal. The portion is definitely worth it for the price. Each set has seafood, meat and veggies, which can be combined together. A wonderful thing is that they have A5 wagyu, but I don't think it's the highest grade of A5 since I've seen finer marbling of A5 in a more expensive restaurant, but for the price and the texture, this is a good one. This place was great. We were literally the only customers there which made it even better because we didn't have to wait for anything. Food came out very quickly and our pots heated up quickly. The food was yummy, definitely hit the spot for the cold weather. The veggies are all preset, so you don't really get to choose, but after we wanted more, we were able to choose which veggies we wanted so that was nice. We came in on a Tuesday night with a reservation of 4 at 7:00 pm, they unfortunately weren't ready for us and took about 25 minutes to get our table. It wasn't anyone's fault as it looked like they only had 2 people working the tables. The restaurant is quite big and clean! As we finally got our table, we opted for the AYCE option as we were celebrating a birthday. It is definitely on the higher end for pricing that i've paid for AYCE shabu. Our orders and drinks were placed, however, we didn't start enjoying anything until about 8:15. The quality of meats was definitely on the higher side of quality, we enjoyed everything on the premium AYCE menu! I feel if they had additional staffing our visit would have been more pleasurable. We observed other tables they were attentive towards. It was even difficult getting a drink refill. Writing this with a heavy heart. We frequented this place 1-2x a month for the past few years, and a lot has changed in the past month and a half. They decided to change their decor and menus. The decor doesn't make much sense at all if you know Japanese and can read the banners that were put up, but that's really not that important. The new menus are absolutely horrible to read and understand. Although nothing has changed in terms of the Shabu, these horrible AI menus don't explain anything and is incredibly misleading if you're just trying to order a normal shabu shabu course. The old menus were wonderful, everything clearly labeled, for first timers it's easy to understand and follow. These new menus don't make any sense at all and nothing is marked or priced in a way that's clear. The meat quality has diminished severely. It went from having incredibly good quality meat (for the price) to quite literally the worst ribeye quality I have eaten since I've been to South East Asia in the mid 90s. It was incredibly grainy and flavorless. The chuck roll that we ordered tasted exponentially better than the ribeye, which is crazy because the chuck roll was also not good. If we were to compare what the meat used to be out of 10, they were like an 8 in quality, today the chuck was like a 4... and the ribeye was a 0.3. There was a dead bug on my bok choy, a piece of kombucha had clearly gone bad, and there was something on one of the udon noodles that we couldn't identify. I'm not really a waste food person, so we ate what we could. I want to mention, this has nothing to do with the wait staff. They were pleasant. Directly stating, it was the quality of the food and ingredients that were just abysmal.
