Famously known as Nabezo in Japan, Momo Paradise in Torrance is an awesome place for Japanese style AYCE hot pot. Meats are nice, you can get unlimited milk tea, and they finish off your meal with ice cream. What's not to like? They now have the new option for Wagyu meats for ~$55. I suppose this is to compete with the high-end hot pot places that are on trend. I usually go with the regular "Momo menu" with their standard meats for $38 for dinner. Access to their fountain drinks and milk tea is now an additional $3. Hot green tea was complimentary/included in the price. I'm okay with passing on the premium wagyu meats because, though wagyu is delicious, it's also very rich. After a few rounds, wagyu starts to weigh on you. On the regular menu, I usually stay away from the lean meats and stick to their short rib and pork belly. The marbling on these meats is nice. My wife and I like to have tonkatsu and sukiyaki broths. I appreciate that their vegetables are also AYCE. Their japanese curry is also a hidden gem that I can't skip here. I tend to go to this location in Torrance, but they also have locations in Arcadia and Irvine. Overall, I think that the experience at Momo paradise is great and worthwhile. Lastly, if you are coming here, definitely make reservations ahead of time on yelp or opentable - wait times can otherwise be difficult/impossible. read more

Mo-Mo Paradise is my go-to spot for a reliable Japanese-style all-you-can-eat hotpot in the South Bay area. Bottomline: soup is so-so, condiments and meat are above-average, and the vegetables are good. The meal is limited to 90 minutes, which has been enough time in my experience. I've eaten here seven times, and the quality has been fairly consistent across visits. The self-serve station is generally clean, well-stocked, and regularly refilled. During busy weekends it can get a little messy, but I've never found it unhygienic. The staff are attentive enough and are usually quick to clear empty plates or bring additional meat. Since my rating is mainly based on the food, that's what I'll focus on. There are four soup bases to choose from: Shoyu, Tonkotsu, Sukiyaki, and Tomato. They all appear to be pre-mixed. So they are okay. Shoyu is my favorite. It's balanced and clean, making it the most forgiving as the broth becomes more concentrated over the course of the meal. Tomato is light and fairly balanced, although the tomato flavor comes across as a bit artificial. Tonkotsu is acceptable, but it's saltier than I'd like and doesn't have much pork flavor. Sukiyaki is the worst. It's too concentrated at the start of the meal, can you imagine how overpowering this gets by the end of the meal? The meat quality is solid for an AYCE restaurant, although the meat selection is limited to 5 choices.. The beef short plate and pork belly are the best choices if you prefer richer, more marbled cuts. The leaner options are decent, but they aren't as tender or flavorful. The sauce bar has a good selection of ingredients, making it easy to put together a dipping sauce that suits your taste. The vegetable station offers a good variety of fresh vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, noodles, and other hotpot staples. The selection is consistently replenished, and I haven't had issues with freshness. Overall, Mo-Mo Paradise isn't the most memorable hotpot restaurant, but it's a dependable choice when I'm looking for Japanese-style AYCE. Absolutely love this place. I tried the wagyu experience that includes all meats on the menu and access to the drink garden and farmers market, plus ice cream for dessert. Our adviser, Alex, was so helpful and brought out their special sauces that defining elevated our experience. He explained each beef profile and the broths in detail and walked us through the best way to eat. I was skeptical at first how much different the wagyu versus non-wagyu meats are so we tried the wagyu round versus the eye of round to compare an we can immediately taste the difference. The wagyu melts in your mouth, there's a stronger umami flavor, and overall sticks to your tastebuds much stronger than the non-wagyu beef. Both delicious but I did find the wagyu beef a lot more memorable and much easier to chew. The service here was fantastic and shoutout Alex again for pointing out the happy hour specials. We enjoyed $2 house sake which is unheard of! I love the ambiance in here because you can come as you are but still feels elevated and comfortable. We come here a lot! For an all you can eat place, they have a good amount of variety of choices from veggies to other hot pot ingredients. Just wish they would bring back the kimchi broth back! Someone like me who doesn't eat much wish the price as lower... you feel to get your money's worth you have to eat a lot! The food is always great at MoMo. We made reservations to ensure we got a seat on midday on Saturday. The staff were super kind and always attentive. They were never far away when we needed to ask them something. The drink bar and salad bar are also great because you can easily grab whatever inclusions for your shabu you want. I recommend the bok choy and the savory stuffed fish balls. The one issue we had was the ambience. There was a party eating toward the back of the restaurant. They had three children, probably ages 8, 6, and 3. The children were running around the restaurant playing tag (screaming and running) while the oldest child had her iPad at full volume in the quiet restaurant. The staff had to tell the children and parents (who did not care that their children were running amuck) to stop running in the restaurant. The youngest child wasn't even wearing shoes or socks. The waitstaff had to dodge these running kids while carrying bowls of hot soup and trays of raw meat. Obviously, this is not something I can fault MoMo for, but I wish they were stronger in their policy of making sure children are under control so other patrons can enjoy their meal. It's the fault of the parents who allow their children to behave in such a manner in a restaurant. read more

I came with family and didn't know they have two different time schedules on the weekdays for lunch and dinner. The lunch time is from 11am-2pm and the dinner is from 4:30pm-9pm. The good thing about that was we got to be the first group in the restaurant, with no lines. You get to pick your choice of broth and meats to dunk from the waiter/waitress and it is brought to you. An hour and a half of unlimited meat. They give you 4 options for broth. Sukiyaki, original, tonkotsu, tomato based. You are allowed up to 2 flavors in 1 pot you share with your buddy. I got the original and the tonkotsu. They have a full buffet of condiments plus tea flavors of the month. They seem to rotate it. When I went, they had hojicha cocoa. They also have momo paradise exlusive soda, which was the momo peach and tokyo melon. They also offer boba/coffee jelly to go with your drink. I think the server is a hit or miss. My server was friendly but barely present. When she served us she was super kind. But it took forever to get our goma and ponzu sauce in the beginning. I had to hunt down a different server twice because we didn't know where to get it. She kind of gave me attitude. She told me to wait. We waited another 6 minutes and still got nothing. I hunted her down again and she rolled her eyes saying she'll bring it over. Ended up sending someone else later to get it. Maybe she was over it and was at the tail end of her shift... only god knows. The meat refills came pretty quick when our actual server came around. I've been to MoMo Paradise several times and each time I find it consistently very good. For dinner, you can choose from 3 cuts of beef or 2 cuts of pork. Though the protein options feel limited, I think the meat quality is top tier. It feels like the meat is freshly sliced each time they bring you a new round. Of the meats, I like beef short plate best because the fat to meat ratio is perfect. I like that it's a pot sharing situation at MoMo. That way, you get to try two broths. The tonkatsu is by far, my favorite. The salad bar is stocked with all the greatest hits including kale and fishballs stuffed with roe. Again, the selection isn't as far reaching as other hot pot places, but you can tell that everything is fresh and frequently replenished. Best part? You can make resys to avoid the wait. read more

Been to this place twice already and each time it's been a decent experience. I like going during lunch time because of the prices since it's alittle cheaper around $30 as opposed to ~$40 or more depending on what you get. I normally get the tomato broth due to the light taste and it doesn't get concentrated/salty over time. Service was good, didn't have to wait too long to put in our meat orders. The servers also come by pretty often which is nice. There's a self service bar for sauce, veggies, noodles, fish balls and tofu. Also sides like curry/rice and noodle salads. The drinks are an additional charge if you want soda or tea. Which I think the tea is pretty good if you don't mind spending extra. There's also ice cream you can get after your meal and apparently it's ayce as well if you wanna get your moneys worth on dessert. Inside is pretty clean. They have both larger and smaller tables. It does get packed during lunch time. So I recommend making a reservation if you can. These can be made online. Parking wasn't an issue. It is in a plaza with other restaurant places. read more

We ducked out of a packed ramen spot and chose this shabu-shabu house instead and thank God we did. It was busy but never chaotic, and the host still found us a table without a reservation. Our server, JC, was the highlight. He walked us through the best cuts, explained the little nuances of the broth and veggies, and even helped us pick drinks that actually made sense with the meal. I ate here many times.. I used to love it and crave it, then come get it even though it was pretty far from where I live. They used to be SO SO good, USE TO BE. Now, it's just ok. Seems like pricing went up, quality went down, it just doesn't match up. The broth even tastes different too. The only things consistent are their bar area, self-service of veggies and drinks, The curry is delicious and pretty consistent. The ice-cream at the end if the meal, because (i'm pretty sure it's Thrifty) they have the pineapple and the black cherry ice creams that are delicious. The inside is pretty big, and there used to be wait lists as the place was usually filled, but the more recent times that I have been here, this has not been the case, and I'm sure it's because of the details mentioned. The meat choices, I wished they stuck to their original of when they first opened. It worked. It was great. Quality was good. Why change it and give us sub-par stuff now. TLDR: It's another hotpot spot that offers mid tier to high tier meat, but fails to differentiate itself from the pack. Thoughts: It's always a fun exercise when a famous Japanese establishment opens stateside, and an even more fun exercise if you've dined in said establishment in Japan. Any reasonable diner would expect a comparable experience, but what I can't ignore for MoMo is a sizable difference in experience. I've always been someone who focuses heavily on the taste and quality of food. I was expecting a small menu with 6-8 meat choices, with each option as good as the last. This is how it was for Japan, but it cannot be said for this place. The quality of the meat is a step or two down, and the taste was closer to an entry level hotpot place than a mid tier one. You still get the buffet table for the sides and the fountain drink (+3 per person), but that is the only thing they managed to bring over from Japan. This and the ice cream. The ice cream was good (good and generous). Ambiance: You can go to any hotpot place in OC/LA and this place has the same vibe. You don't get the more upscale vibe that you have in Japan. Service: It was almost a full house, so it was on the slower side. We needed a bit more time to pick what menu and soup we were going to commit to, so the guy who came to us initially just never came back. I guess he just clocked out and didn't hand us over to another staff member. MoMo Paradise is a great place to come to for an authentic Shabu dinner. There was a bit of a wait for us to be seated but it is completely understandable. The restaurant isn't very big and can only hold up to 98 in max capacity. Once seated, we ordered the spicy miso and the sukiyaki broth, followed by two of each in the beef options. We made sure to order of the MoMo menu as it was our first time there. Overall, it was a very delicious and filling meal. We all left more than satisfied and were happy to say that it greatly exceeded our expectations. I cannot say anything really stood out to me more than other menu items, but my friends really enjoyed the curry rice from the self-serve bar. Also the sodas they have at the dispenser are good too, with melon being the standout. About halfway through the meal. We were able to switch up the broths and try new ones. We only made it to round two before tapping out and ordering some ice cream for desert. What I like about the ice cream they gave us was that they only give you one scoop which is just the right amount after having such a hearty meal. One other thing I liked about this place was how friendly the workers were. They took their time explaining everything to us and made sure to answer all of our questions. It was disappointing that they couldn't be more accommodating for a small party of three, especially given the number of visibly available tables. All You Can Eat (AYCE) high quality meats to veggies and a non-alcoholic drink bar (tea, soda etc) and an ice cream scoop dessert is included at the end! You pay per person and get 1.5 hrs of stuffing yourself plump! What's not there to like about treating yourself?!? We had a few clients come form out of town and wanted them to experience MoMo, its was little after lunch time so we thought it would not be an issue getting a table. There were many tables open and we were escorted to a table right away, there were 4 of us and they took us to a table with one pot, we asked if there was a way to get two pots they refused. I told them kindly these were our clients and it would be uncomfortable sharing one pot with 4 people. I even told them if i need to pay extra we are more than happy to do so. Apparently 4:30 pm on a weekday is already prime time for shabu-shabu in Torrance. I walked in thinking a table for two would be easy... and quickly learned reservations are definitely a good idea here. The wait ended up being about an hour, and we finally sat down around 5:30. Once seated, though, things moved smoothly. We went with the $53 adult wagyu option and added the all-you-can-drink bar for another $3.75, which felt like a good deal. The wagyu quality isn't the ultra-premium melt-in-your-mouth kind, but for an AYCE price point it's actually quite decent. Thinly sliced, plenty of refills, and perfect for cooking quickly in the broth. What I appreciated most was the variety at the veggie and sides bar. Lots of tofu options and a solid selection of vegetables. The mushrooms selection in particular stood out -- not always something you see with this much variety at an AYCE shabu place. For broth we chose sukiyaki and tonkotsu. Both were good, though I did find myself wishing they offered a spicy option too -- something like a spicy miso broth would have been a great addition. Overall it ended up being a really satisfying and surprisingly healthy meal. Lots of vegetables, warm broth, and plenty of protein. Just remember to make a reservation... unless you enjoy spending your late afternoon watching other people eat shabu. 4.5 stars. There's even a beef curry station that was surprisingly good, though I had to resist filling up on curry and rice alone. Service was also a standout as our server, Lily, was the absolute sweetest and completely on point throughout the meal, from checking in regularly to see if we needed more meat, to clearing the ever-growing pile of plates and bowls, to offering refills of the post-meal ice cream (the dark cherry flavor is so, so good). OK, so this place does not advertise that it's all you can eat at the actual location. I didn't check yelp until after the fact, but I did not see "all you can eat only" on the doors or on the windows. If I did, I would not have dined here. They should also have a sign on the delivery door that says "entrance this way" with an arrow. It was a bit confusing, but not the worst. The waitress smiled and was friendly overall, but didn't explain the process. My husband got the wagyu experience and then she just assumed that I would've wanted the same (I arrived 10 minutes later with our daughter). I don't know if it's part of the policy that everyone has to get the same experience, but it was a little offputting that she didn't talk it through with me or offer me the options. I wasn't actually hungry to begin with, so I really didn't like the fact that it is an all-you-can-eat experience. It doesn't promote listening to your body whatsoever. I think they should do an all-you-can-eat option, but I think there should be an opt out option of that too. I think doing so would allow for more people to come and feel included. There is curry that you can get while you wait for your meat to cook. The curry is flavorful, but it's a lot of just heavy foods. The flavors were pretty decent. I usually get the enoki mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms and noodles. The gonzu sauce was good. We are from the Cupertino area in the Bay Area, so we have been spoiled. But what I didn't expect was lunch and a live masterclass in Sukiyaki 101. Let me just say: Lily doesn't serve sukiyaki. She performs it. Watching her prepare the sukiyaki broth was like witnessing a symphony -- if violins were thinly sliced ribeye and the crescendo was perfectly swished beef in that rich, savory-sweet broth. She walked us through the technique step by step, explaining the timing, the swish, the dip into the egg, the layering of flavors -- all with the patience of a saint and the charisma of a Food Network star (slightly exaggerated, slightly). The broth? Deep, flavorful, slightly sweet, and so addictive I briefly considered drinking it straight (no judgment, please). Every bite felt like it was giving me a warm hug while whispering, "You've made excellent life choices." What a great pre-valentines experience.
