The food is spectacular! The prices are even better. The portions are so big we can never finish our plates no matter how badly we want to bc it's so good. My husbands favorite place. We drive here from Staten Island at least once a month bc it's that good. We also like that this restaurant offers fast casual dining and the options for table service. Everyone is very nice here as well. My husband's favorite menu item is the dip sampler, and my favorite is how well seasoned the lettuce and tomatoes are.

Came here for dinner with my husband and daughter. We ordered the dip sampler as an appetizer. For my meal I ordered the chicken gyro and my husband ordered the bacon wrapped souvlaki. We ate everything! We enjoyed the spicy feta dip the best. We weren't fans of the hummus. The appetizer only came with 4 small pieces of pita bread so we asked for more. It was an extra $1 for pita bread. I think they should give more pita with the dips so it's more proportionate. The service and ambiance were good.

The souvlaki on a stick was the bomb. Better than the chicken gyros. Recommend the stick. The lemon was perfect as well the Greek spices and very authentic like you would get in Greece. Well worth the hike over from Manhattan.

Got the chicken gyro platter food was good till I almost choked on a hair going into my throat, long hair that was inside the rice and food went from good to disgusting and lost my appetite, wouldn't eat here again. Store manager I have a video of when I took it out of my mouth do you want to see? I can send it to you personally, it's not long like a women's hair but definitely not a short hair. The hair is also inside of the rice so it's most definitely from you guys.

I've been wanting to visit King Souvlaki for a few months now and just never got around to it until this evening when I decided to walk over and make an order to take out. I kept the order simple, a gyro to go and I made no special requests of it since I wanted to see how they made it. I opted for the classic lamb as the meat as opposed to chicken or pork and had to say that they do load up the meat in this offering. The coat the pita bread with the tzaziki sauce and placed some tomatoes around this and then a handful of red onions. Once the meat was in place they added a handful of french fries to this which is something very new to me. The limitations and restrictions on dining in prevented me from even trying to sit down and eat this at the establishment but I will say that everyone was keeping distant, wearing masks and gloves and the place was spotless. It also smelled amazing from all the other dishes being cooked. I dug into the gyro once at home and can say that I really liked how they made it and would order again but the next time I will make the following changes. Since my stomach can't handle them much anymore I'd need a lot less onions so maybe they'll give me more tomatoes instead. I also didn't like the idea of the french fries made as a part of the sandwich. I generally like my fries off to the side. Lastly I think I prefer the sauce on top of the meat not soaking into the bread under it. Call me fussy I guess. Overall this was a good experience despite my not staying in the place. I'd come back and try something else for sure. Maybe I will try and actual souvlaki platter or a spanikopita. Those are always tasty dishes and I am sure that this place does them well.

On this lunch delivery edition, I chose King Souvlaki to try, having only had Greek once. The portions were a generous amount, more than enough for lunch! My Chicken Souvlaki Platter ($18) came with chicken skewers, house salad, pita bread, and choice of 2 sides, which I chose Lemon Potatoes and Rice. The Lemon Potatoes I tried were not very good. They offer a strong citrus taste, but not over my rice too! The sauce dripped right into my poor rice, which left everything tasting very sour over at that area. Luckily, my Chicken Skewers were safe from the zest, and super delicious! There were mixed reviews saying they were dry, but not at all! I could totally eat more of these, given the juicy consistency. They went well with my Tirokafteri sauce. Overall, I enjoyed it, although I do think it depends on your food pick, as my brother's pork was dry. Best of all was the care they put into their utensils! I felt like I was eating something way more fancy the way they were wrapped.

Got delivery, via Grubhub. Arrived hot, and on time. Great presentation.... The pork and chicken tasted great. I take stars off because I LOVE a lot of flavor in my food (and my partner is Greek); we felt it was a bit of an Americanized version of Greek food. The tzatziki tasted like sour cream with dill, the hummus tasted like mashed up carrots.... I'm keeping a 3 instead of a 2, because of presentation and timely arrival; also my sister in law said this is her favorite spot in bay ridge-- my partner and my pallet just don't agree.

I really was hoping to satisfy my craving for good Greek food but I was disappointed. All the spreads we tried tasted store bought. The Greek salad had no Kalamata or Greek olives but Spanish olives and capers instead which was odd. The saganaki was burned so bad that we couldn't cut it with a knife. The best thing on the menu that we tried that night was the pork souvlaki.

This was a hot night spot for years and now opens as another take on Greek Food in Bay Ridge. King Souvlaki has a food truck following in Astoria Queens and Midtown Manhattan. Overall the food trucks average about 4.5 stars, nice way to go. They have a great story as the owners had the American dream and started their first food truck in 1979. They just opened what I believe is their first store front location about a week ago. From the initial reaction the neighborhood they will be successful. They have good prices, plenty of help, everyone is nice, its very clean and the owners or bosses are on hand which makes a HUGE difference. They have a few restaurants that are direct competition to them. Blue Door across the street and Something Greek which is by 77 street and 3 ave. This was my first visit, they were packed as you can see by my photos, and they are doing a booming take out business as well. Currently they do not have delivery, although they plan on it. They also plan on serving wine and beer although currently it is BYOB which is great until they have their license. I gave them 5 stars for the overall experience, I give credit when a business is well thought out and the owners are proud and put attention to details. The only downside is that it can take about 20 minutes for your main course to come out and that is not for a lack of staffing. They are just very busy. I am sure that will improve over time. The food was very tasty and I tried the chicken breast platter. There is plenty of food. It comes with salad, pita bread, tzatziki, and a choice of lemon potatoes, fries or rice. Everything tasted great. They have an extensive menu although the show stopper was the King Plate. They advertise this as a mouthwatering mix of all four hand stacked gyros. Souvlaki sticks (3) homemade Bifteki and Greek Sausage. All piled over a bed of hand cut fries, toasted Pita Bread, Tzatziki Tirokafteri and king sauce. The small size which is enough for four in my opinion is $38.95 and the large is $59.80 that will serve an army. There are plenty of appetizers and starters to choose from. Cheeses, dips, grilled Portobello mushrooms and more. They offer all kinds of salads and they have Avgolemono soup which is Egg Lemon Chicken. They also have a soup of the day. They offer desert including Greek donuts, Greek yogurt and a desert of the day. I recommend you try them and welcome them to the neighborhood.

Chicken and pork souvlaki were both delicious. Loved the fluffy tzatziki but fries were greasy and soggy by the time we got home. Rice was much better. If we try another time we will try lemon potatoes Service is only so-so. But that's bay ridge for you. Not terribly friendly read more

Ordered here for pickup. I got the chicken gyro pita sandwich and my bf had the chicken souvlaki platter. I really enjoyed the sandwich, I just wish the food had a little more flavor as they heavily relied on the sauces. I added some hot sauce at home for more of a kick. The king sauce was really good and I thought the fries were okay but a nice compliment to be included on the sandwich. I thought the prices were a little high but then I saw that the portions are pretty big, at least for the platter. The pita bread was really good too. My bf shared that he really liked his platter. I would return again! My order was ready quickly after ordering on Seamless. read more

Apparently Souvlaki comes with a bad attitude.... Confusing ways of ordering, meager tasting food and a cafeteria ambiance. If you're a construction worker that had a hard day, wants their meal fast and just needs to shove down grub.. then sure, have an overly priced dish here. But everyone... go elsewhere for a decent place to eat. read more

For the price, the quantity of the food is laughable. This is not fine dining and should not be given so little food. Food quality is not even that great to begin with. In addition, you'll be charged a credit card fee. On the menu, it states it will cost this amount but after I paid, the credit fee shows a different amount. The Greek fries is such a big scam. They throw some fries in a box and add some feta cheese in there and charge $12. read more

Great portions and delicious! We stopped by for lunch and sat inside where there's plenty of seating inside (and outside) I got the Chicken Gyro Platter and my boyfriend had gotten the Chicken Souvlaki Pita. Would come back next time to try the other meats! read more

First experience was terrible. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and ordered again via Seamless. When my food arrived, they forgot my drink and the man who delivered my food handed me my gyro without a bag/napkin/utensils. My gyro also arrived extremely early so it was probably an extra gyro the driver had in his car. The fries inside the gyro were stale. It was unsanitary and unprofessional. I won't order and don't recommend. read more

A true Greek food lovers' delight! We knew we were in for a good meal once we walked in and realized there were no tables available. After a brief wait, we were seated and our feast began. One of the highlights of our meal was our wonderful server Nikolaos. This eatery was no stranger to generous portions, I'd say I was able to get through 1/3 of my entree. The only gripe I have was with the actual beef-lamb meat, which was a little chewy and tough , but tasty nonetheless. For an area that definitely has its fair share of Greek cuisine spots, I'd recommend King Souvlaki if you have a large appetite. But be warned, if you are coming on a weekend night, be prepared to wait (on our way out we noticed the amount of people was much larger than when we came in). read more

The review is solely base off of the food we order for take out. Due to COVID19, there is no indoor dining. We ordered The Kings Platter (small) for $85.00. There was 4 of us and we were so stuffed. This Kings Platter was amazing it came with a variety of meats and skewers. All the meats were in one platter. We kept eating and eating couldn't see the bottom of the platter! That was how much meat they gave us. The platter also came with sauces, veggies and pita bread. This meal was definitely worth it for a family style dinner and it tasted so good. Stopped by this place after long and intense day at work, just wanted to treat myself by enjoying one of my favorite cuisines (along with Italian). Another Greek restaurant across the street where, I usually dine, was closed (Monday) and me and my colleague decided to give King Souvlaki a try. My oh my, the experience definitely exceeded my expectations! We were served by very attentive and friendly waiter (what a shame - I didn't ask his name), the food was delicious and the portions were HUGE! Icing on the cake: the prices are beyond reasonable by New York standards! Me and my colleague left this place delighted and completely full... All in all, great place two blocks from where I live - will definitely recommend and come back again soon;) read more

We came here because there was a Greek Heritage festival nearby but their line for food was too long so we walked over to this place which is a black away. We were 7 adults and a child and waited about 30 mins on a Saturday night. It wasn't too bad. We had our Greek friend with us and we decided on the The King Plate large. It was so good!!!! The portion was more than enough for us and got to take some home too! The price was awesome and so glad this is in the neighborhood now. Have to come back out again! read more

A Greek told a friend to ignore all other Greek restaurants and go here...so we went, of course. Excellently flavored chicken souvlaki served with lemony potatoes was the highlight. The spanokopita was also delicious. Dessert baklava was tasty, but not made in house. I will definitely visit again. read more

This place passes through all debit and credit card fees to the customer, instead of the business owner paying them. This is not the case with almost every other business on the planet. If you choose as a business owner to accept "cards" as payment, you incur the costs of the card company processing the payment and depositing the money instantly into your account. It's not the customer's responsibility to pay for the business payment processing fees. Also, there is no indication of an additional fee until you see it pop up on the register or your receipt as a "service charge". Not mentioned on the phone, or at the register. It's on you to recognize this sham only after your card is swiped. It's not the amount of the charge, but the deceptive principle behind it that makes me SMH. All other businesses (even small local ones) have either a debit or credit minimum to make it profitable to sell their products using a card, without passing the fee on to the customers. I asked the employee at the register about it, and he only replied "they don't want to pay for it". Yeah, guess what, customers don't want to pay for it either, we're already paying inflated prices for your food. The food is pretty decent, nothing to write home about. But the fact that these shady, underhanded practices exist to nickle-and-dime customers for using a card is unacceptable, they should be ashamed. At the very least, they should be required to be up-front about charging you, the customer, extra money for the "privilege" of using a debit or credit card. What is this, 1985 and everyone pays for food with cash? There should be consumer protection laws against this practice, and I hope the message spreads. read more

Finally !!! Someone's got it right !!! We tried King Souvlaki and we were not disappointed. Greek food done with taste and quality . It's fresh and served hot. We've tried other places in Bay Ridge and have been disappointed each and every time ... So much so we just about given up on any of the places in Bay Ridge offering Greek fare. In all the places the disappointment ranged from the foot not tasting fresh to being under seasoned. Also the establishments not being clean ... seating areas not picked up after, to bathrooms being downright shameful . NOT King Souvlaki !!! Not only does the food taste fresh ... Service is always with smiles ... The restaurant is always clean. And bathrooms ... super clean. But the most important is the food ... Seasoned just right. Served hot. You can taste the freshness ... It's a breath of fresh air to finally have a Greek restaurant where the owner takes pride in what they serve to the cleanliness of the seating areas to freshness of the bathrooms. When wanting Greek fare ... Head straight to King Souvlaki , you will not be disappointed. read more

Great Experience. My girlfriend and I wondered in on a Saturday night and ordered a small king's plate. "Small" is a mischaracterization, it was huge and so delicious. It had all the best this amazing Greek place to offer, completed with each type of kebab, each of the gyros, a sausage, a meat patty, a bunch of pitas with four dipping sauces, along with some onions, tomatoes and some garnish greens. The kebabs were very tender and juicy, the dips were really fresh. If I had to really punch holes, maybe some of the gyro was a bit tough or maybe it just seemed that way because it was accompanied by such delicious kebabs, but who cares, we had a blast. To round this out, I'd like to say that food aside the staff made us feel really welcome and they were personable and attentive. It did not feel like we were there for the first time, it was as if we were regulars (who knows, after this, it may very well be the case) Great job guys. Kudos on a gem of a place! Expect to see us back. read more

Wow! My new favorite spot in Bay ridge. Amazing and quick service, whether it be for sit down or pick up. Best of all, the food is FRESH. I've actually never had fresher tzatziki sauce. If someone is more health-conscious, they can just opt for the fresh chicken and rice (or salad for the less carb friendly customer). It's a good way to still eat out and stay on track! I also love how they have wine and beer to go perfect with the meal. :) read more

Service was terrible one girl waiting tables and two girls by the register just chatting. Took 10 minutes to get drinks and when she finally did bring the drinks they were not what we asked for. The pork tastes like lamb. It had a very gamey taste. Chicken souvlaki was good. Rice had absolutely no taste. I literally spit it into a napkin because I did not want to waste calories. Lemon potatoes were like mush. Large salad was by no means a large it was in a large bowl but not nearly a large salad. I wish this place luck but we will not be coming back. To many good Greek places in the area to come here for subpar food. In addition, the tzatziki tastes like yogurt with some Sprinkled oregano. read more

The service was too slow. It took about five minutes to get menus, twenty minutes to finally get waters after asking 3x for it. They did not have alcohol as listed on the menu (probably working on the license, but they are possibly byob since another table looked like they had a wine bottle - would have been nice to know this). Some meat tasted gamey and had a lot of pieces that were just fat. I was really excited for this place. The owner seemed very enthusiastic, but the service was a huge turnoff and the food did not make up for it. read more

Came in for the first time on a Saturday night around 8pm and was seated right away by their super friendly staff. The place is very clean and nicely decorated. Finally! After waiting what seemed like an eternity, King Souvlaki has finally arrived in Bay Ridge. If you want a good background on the restaurant, look up reviews for their food truck in Astoria, Queens. They've been pumping out quality Greek souvlaki and gyro for the better part of almost 4 decades, certainly better than anything else Brooklyn had to offer. The restaurant didn't disappoint, although they're swamped from their initial interest and the waits are a little longer than usual. The souvlaki was perfect, juicy and cooked to perfection. The gyros we had (chicken, pork and lamb) were all great, and their french fries are made from real potatoes and rounded out the meal beautifully. I'd love to attach a picture of what we got, but it was gone long before anyone could bother to take one. read more

Chicken gyro platter for the win. A huge portion with lemon potatoes (just kinda okay), pita (delicious and soft and warm), a salad, and a dip. Important notes on the details of what was most amazing: the spicy feta dip was flavorful and just the right amount of heat for me. The olive oil on the salad was the most delicious I have ever had. So delicious that I ate the tomatoes it was coating even though I am almost always anti-tomato. I'd take off half a star if I could, tbh, though. They joined the collection of business schemers who offer "a discount" for paying in cash, ultimately penalizing people for using cards. read more

Eye opening and jaw dropping moment when we received our order. My husband and I decided to order the SMALL King souvlaki to share so we can have a taste of most of the menu items. We were amazingly surprised when we received our order which was more than what we expected. It was huge! Not at all the small size we expected and every item (even the red onions and tomatoes) was so so delicious. They were short staff but the service was amazing and we will definitely return. I must share this because it's typically not my experience in non-black neighborhoods... we felt welcomed, respected, and the simple human love from just about everyone we encountered. read more

I visited the restaurant with some friends, after I learned about it from the food trucks they have. I have to say that they keep their word saying they have authentic greek food!!! I ordered their greek Bifteki with some rice and my friend got the same over lemon potatoes and it was amazing!!! The bifteki was juicy and very tasteful and the lemon potatoes (that i tried from my friends plate) were rly good!! We got the homemade greek sausage as well and it wasn't as spicy as i've tasted in other restaurants, it was cooked perfectly and tasted like Greece!!! They gave us a side of their homemade spicy greek feta dip for the pita breads!!! I would have given more stars if i could! I totally recommend it!!! Next time i will order the Kings Plate! As my husband says, "In a neighborhood full of Greek options, King Souvlaki truly is the King." Hands down best gyro in Bay Ridge. Perfect balance of meats to veggies and flavorful sauce. Love their food truck in Queens, but if you live in Brooklyn then this is the go to place. Similar quality food to the queens location. Food truck location I feel has a bit more flavor, when it comes to the lamb gyro. The Brooklyn location makes a nice chicken gyro . Minus the fries and you have a healthier gyro. Not bad for a Brooklyn gyro . Will differently go back again read more

History

Established in 1979.

Back in 1979 our Great uncle after many years of working on food carts in and around New York City, decided to open up one for himself. So in 1979 he did just that, on our cozy little corner of Astoria beneath the train. His marinated and hand skewered souvlaki were an instant favorite amongst the locals and beyond. Eventually his nephews and their own sons took over the reins when he decided to retire. With hard work and dedication, we expanded to 4 food trucks and now a brick and mortar location here in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn!

The individuals I support are on limited incomes and cannot afford meals from establishments such as yours, so they bring their own lunches while staff members purchase food and beverages from your business. A manager approached us and informed us that outside food was not permitted, even though purchases had been made. We were then asked to leave and eat outside in the hot weather. I understand that businesses have policies regarding outside food, and I respect the need to enforce them. However, I believe this situation could have been handled with greater compassion and understanding, given that the group consisted of individuals with disabilities who rely on packed lunches due to financial limitations. As someone who has consistently supported your establishment, I was disappointed by the lack of flexibility and empathy shown. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I will no longer be bringing my business or the individuals I support to your establishment. I hope this feedback encourages your management team to consider a more accommodating approach when serving members of the disability community in the future.

The food here is worth 5 stars. Seriously it's some of the best Greek food that I've ever had and potentially the best pork gyro ever. Everything else is a big miss. The service is terrible. They don't always put your entire order in. They will take forever to come to your table the first time, and it's going to be an entire ordeal to get your check. If anything goes wrong it's going to take forever to get it corrected. Your drinks will come at the end of your meal. Did you want fries with that? You're going to have to remind the waitress twice. You will wait...and wait...and wait...and if its a busy night, like a Friday or Saturday, you will wait even longer. I've waited up to two hours for my food (and the manager looked confused when I walked out when he said it would still be another 30 minutes). They will mess with your bill. Oh...that Gyro is $7.20? But they haven't added on the credit card fees yet. I mentioned how amateur and sleezy this comes off to a manager and he immediately started telling me that this is how ALL restaurants work like I've never been to a restaurant before. Just charge me for how much you want me to pay instead of tacking on credit card fees AFTER I've eaten my food and gotten my bill. The food is great, the food trucks really allowed them to hone their craft. However, they do not know how to run a restaurant. Oh...and what's up with them on Seamless? Finally got the chance to visit this new restaurant after waiting for them to open for so long. It did not disappoint! It was amazing! I went with my husband and another couple and we all loved it. First let me say that the restaurant looks beautiful inside. Very cool design and layout all around. They also had Greek music playing which made for a nice atmosphere. The owner is also very pleasant. He went around to all the tables greeting people and making sure they were happy and attended to. It's always good to see that kind of care. Now for the food! I got the Kotobacon platter with fries which is the bacon wrapped chicken skewers which were so amazing and juicy. Loved it! Their food is fresh and tastes amazing. Probably the best Greek restaurant I have been to in New York. I was seated relitavely fast which was a plus and couldn't wait to share the amazing King plate with my brother. The King plate is a must when you go to this place. Stopped by King Souvlaki in Bay Ridge recently after having their food from the truck a few times before, and it was just as good as I remembered. I first tried them from the truck, so I was curious to see how the Bay Ridge spot would be. I got my favorite the pork souvlaki and it was great. Pita and the tzatziki were also so yummy Portions were solid and everything tasted fresh. Service was quick and friendly even though it was busy. I had a great dining experience here! I'm currently fasting for Easter and have to say that their portobello pita was delicious! The flavor was on point. As I was eating I saw one of the servers serve a group of guys the kings plate! It looked amazing! So much food! I can't wait to come back on a day that I'm not fasting so that I can try it! Came for a quick bite, left emotionally attached to a souvlaki. The chicken was juicy, the pita was warm, and the tzatziki had just the right garlicky kick. Simple food done really well. Portions were solid and the prices didn't make me question my life choices. If you like Greek food and happiness, get the souvlaki. It's kind of the whole point here. read more

Tried the chicken gyro pita and it was seriously good. Chicken was juicy with a nice char from the grill, stuffed into a warm pita with fresh tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and tzatziki. Simple, flavorful, and hits the spot. One of those quick Bay Ridge spots you can count on when you're craving a good gyro. read more

I've been coming here since the place first opened and I'm a big fan of the food. Gyros are great. Spanakopita is a MUST, the salads are delicious and the Greek fries are amazing. Service is a hit or miss but I don't care much for the service as I do for good food. Keep it up guys. read more

Ate at King Souvlaki in Brooklyn for the first time tonight and the food and service was was AMAZING. The French fries were homemade with oregano...delicious. Anna the waitr es s was phenomenal. Definitely worth the drive from Long Island!! read more

This place is fantastic. Really great authentic food for the price. Their platers are huge. Pork sticks are the best. Really juicy cuts of meat and pork. The service is fantastic. Stop by or order take out. You can't go wrong with this place. read more

I tried their chicken gyro and I can say it is one of the most delicious things they have. The meat is good and the pita sandwitch is so big that I almost couldn't finish. Nicole is so kind and served us so well. We will see you guys again read more

I just had their Pork Gyro Platter and it was really good. The plate is so big that it can feed 2, or at least a kid and an adult. I will keep ordering from them, seamless was quick. read more
