I'm not really sure why so many people are knocking this place I've been going here for quite a few years and I have never had an issue. Is it all warm and fuzzy? No of course not but let's face it sometimes when you're getting a fast take-out meal you don't even care about that you just want your food and wanna go home it's that sort of place. I always get there and mix vegetables with brown rice and I really love it from there they don't overload it on the sauce so it's not overly salty but they have such a beautiful array of vegetables in it most places only stick with broccoli carrots maybe you'll get a water chestnut here or there this place has everything ! Celery, baby corn, snap peas , mushrooms, broccoli , water chestnut and carrots! I've never had an issue with them they've always been very kind to me the only thing I can see is that it does take a little bit longer than other Chinese restaurants but you know what if it's good food it's worth waiting for. Doesn't look like much when you walk past it, but this place is underrated and one of the better fast food Chinese places in downtown Hawthorne. Their lo-mein was on point for the most part, noodles were chewy not overcooked, veggies crisp... maybe a little less sauce and it'd be perfect. The reviews amuse me. I've used this establishment as my go to Chinese take out for seventeen years and it still tops anything I've tried in Glen Rock or Ridgewood as far as taste goes. Yes prices went up... like everywhere else. It's a take out joint not a restaurant. Seems like everyone's expectations are to high for some beef with rice. The food is excellent, I've always received what I ordered. Delivery has always been timely. Food is seasoned with salt because they aren't catering to everyone's whims and some of us enjoy flavor and seasoning. It is your own responsibility to disclose food allergies not for the restaurant to guess and then take a loss on the food you ordered. If you just want some Friday night takeout this is it! Should have read the reviews first.................. Haven't been here in awhile so I had another appointment in the area and decided to drop in. It was HORRIBLE!!! I have never left a food review but I felt compelled... The General Tso's chicken was so dry and rock hard -- I couldn't believe it. NO WAY was this fresh, no way. In the garbage it went. Disgusted, I decided to try the fried rice. NOPE - dry too. Lastly, the pork egg roll. Dry, dry, dry - no flavor whatsoever. The shell was soggy - the inside - a mess of dryness. 1/10/2022 Not sure why I went to this place other than it was a Monday and all my regular places were closed, but I did and I'm am sorry I did! Ordered the General Tso's chicken. It was dry with hard breading, so over cooked, it was hard to tell if there was any chicken! It clearly was old and not fresh. It was TERRIBLE!! I was only able to eat a few pieces and it had to be tossed. The fried rice was passable, but the egg roll was soggy, dry and had no Flavor!!! Into the trash this went too. Backing up a bit, if you decide like many do, to ask if you could get some home made mustard, in lieu of the packets, I was told it was an extra charge! For mustard? Are you kidding? I've been patronizing this restaurant for approximately 3 years and I've seen it slip from solidly mediocre to downright poor. Let's talk about the food first. I'm a lover of wonton soup. The original version served here had a wonderful thin wrapper and good broth. Then, out of nowhere, the filling changed from pork to beef, since all of the prices of the pork dishes were raised. I stopped coming here at this point. I decided to give the restaurant a second chance this past week. The wonton soup was changed slightly, to a more porky mixture in the wonton, but the broth was tasteless. The boneless spareribs were too salty and the sauce was not flavorful. Pork fried rice was dry and didn't have too much pork and veggies. The prices are too high in this restaurant. The combo specials are almost $2 more than the competition. And they don't come with soup or an egg roll. And they don't take credit cards. I loathe this place now, sadly. Perhaps the owners will see this review and get their act together. read more

Food is decent but we've often had to wait longer than originally told. Also keep in mind they only take cash at the moment which is a pain these days with credit cards and atm fees. The first time we went my wife ordered shrimp and broccoli and when we got home there was no shrimp. We decided not to go back because we were already home and didn't want to go back. Great dinner the other night. I ordered a quart of Shrimp Lo Mein with a good amount of large, fresh shrimp--overflowing portion of food.

It's been my experience that the mark of a bad Chinese restaurant is the faded photos of plates of food over the counter. King Wok does nothing to disprove that theory. Because I work nearby I've tried this place several times thinking I'd find a decent dish. This was against the advice of my co-workers who warned me that the place was bad. They were right, it is bad. It seems that they have a single overly sweet sauce that they use for every dish and doctor it up a bit so they can call it something different. Meat dishes are cooked until they are dry and chewy. I've had some downright awful Chinese food in my life and this place ranks with the worst. read more

You would be stupid if you go here. I was astonished by the inflation of wings and rice. It was $10.95 for 4 wings and a cup rice. They cut the 4 wings in half and shortened me a half. My jaw dropped when they told me the price and I almost walked out. I remember when the price was $8 now its increased 30%. Prices changing is ok but not breaking down exactly how much people are paying for their food is dishonest. There's also no printed breakdown of what items cost when you get the order. As savaging the web for a place to eat, I decided to try this place. It was close reasonably price, kinda, but it was worth a shot. After promising to my fiance I would never try a Chinese place again until we went south to his favorite place called Neochina, I thought why not give it a go since it was so close to me. After waiting in the car I thought, lol, why not look at some of the reviews. Remember guys I was in a hurry. So looked and my eyes widended bigger then an elephants butt. I was procastinating going here since I already ordered my food. Should I not go in and just go somewhere else? All these doubts rushed through my head.... I selected this location randomly; I was looking for a better place than the other take-outs near home and this one seemed decent at 4 stars, but I regret the decision! I ordered Sesami chicken, Chicken and broccoli and an order of fried pork dumplings. The first weird thing was that the dumplings came fried, of course, but they weren't turned or even touched. It was like a steamed dumpling was put in a pan to burn only ONE SIDE of every single dumpling while the other side was swollen and soggy noodle. The Sesami chicken was crispy. The first bite was good! But after 4 bites my teeth hurt. The actual 'chewy' meat inside was not existent, just balls of hard crunchy pieces, which was disappointing. I thought the sauce was great, but the chicken made the dish terrible. The chicken and broccoli wasn't much better. The sauce was so thick it was almost black, and it was only drizzled onto the chicken here and there which meant if you ate a bite with a big dollop of sauce, it was extra extra salty. I wish 0 was an option, the people that run this establishment are the rudest people I have ever come into contact with. They delivered our food an hour past the 45 minute delivery time we were told. Then they wanted us to wait "a while" for the rest of the order. We demanded our food and she argued with us saying they were busy. The first time I ate from this place, it was OK for fast chinese food. The prices weren't great, but i was trying it out. The last 2 times I got the SAME orders, BOTH TIMES had HAIR IN THE FOOD!!! They deny it being from them. I was in the neighborhood and decided to order general tso chicken with house fried rice. I've had this meal in multiple restaurants so I felt I couldn't go wrong. The house fried rice was loaded with mushrooms, which I'm allergic too. I called them and told them I was allergic to mushroom and wasn't aware the rice came with mushrooms. She proceeded to tell me that I should of told her my allergies and she can't do anything because she is not at fault and that I should simply pick out the mushrooms. An allergic reaction can be triggered with the food simply being cooked together, so her suggestion of me simply picking out the mushroom wasn't helpful. My biggest issue with this place is the customer service, I called and explained it was my first time trying their food and wasn't aware they cooked their food with mushrooms instead of understanding and offering me a different plate if i returned the food she told me she would only change the rice out for me. Local businesses thrive with good customer service especially when it's a chinese take out with many competitors around. King Wok should work on being more customer oriented. read more
