This place reminds me of Taiwan and my childhood. My parents used to take my sisters and I to this pork chop place in the Diamond Plaza (RH) when we were kids. I think it was the same owner or pork chop recipe. Eventually that place shut down and I was happy to hear that this place opened up also in Rowland Heights. I studied abroad in Taiwan in between this time and had the same type of pork chop noodle soup there! The name of both restaurants sound the same in Chinese so I wonder if they are the same. This isn't your average fried pork chop - they only have a few items on their menu and for the right reason. I only get the pork chop noodle soup or dry noodle. The rice is also very good if you're in the mood for a simple pairing. Their pork chop is the OG and better than bobee/monja in my opinion. Must try if you enjoy pork chop with noodles/rice! I grew up in Taiwan and the name of this bento box was well known by locals. Every other week I would go KingChops to get their bento. Having lived in the US for so long, it's become nice childhood memories until one day I found out they opened one in LA. I've then been coming here every since for past couple years whenever I come down for business trip as it's 5 min away from the office. I like the self-serve tea/water station at the front. I got the pork chop noodles and the pork chop is nicely pan fried without the breading that everywhere else has. Flavor was good and plentiful. The noodles were in a nice light broth but the noodles themselves were a bit bland which I didn't like. But I do like that they put some bok choy in the noodle soup and have cucumbers with the pork chop. Nice service too! read more

This is the original store in America. I came today just because I would like to see if my memory is correct. Yes, they do serve SOUP!!! After being the new location in Irvine for several times and I suddenly feel like the combo is missing something important.... SOUP..... it's not a fancy way or special receipe to Make; however, that's pretty much matching the taste in my memory of dining in their very first store in Taipei. This small Chinese eatery is a definite hole in the wall amidst all the Chinese restaurant chains and urban eateries that dominate Rowland. This place is known for their fried pork chop and chicken. I've come here twice and have gotten the chicken leg rice on both occasions. I've also shared the fried pork chop with family members. And let me tell you, don't let "fried" scare you away, at least at Jin Yuan. I'm a huge hater of fried stuff (although I can't deny majority of fried stuff is bomb) because I get mean breakouts, but the fried stuff here isn't all big and crispy and pimple scream inducing (well, let's cross our fingers and hope not). The level of "fried-ness" of the chicken leg and pork chop is very light (very lightly fried) and the chicken leg especially has a delicious aromatic scent to it. I just came back from dinner and earlier I was actually sniffing away at my chicken, to the awkward stares of other diners. It's probably been mentioned already, but pretty much when you order here, your meat of choice is served with the typical serving of rice w/ minced pork on top, and 2 sides of vegetables (cabbage and the other a corn,pea,carrot, pork mix). A bowl of soup is given, too. Personally, I think the side dishes and soup are quite plain (the soup is supposed to be a miso soup but has no taste whatsoever). But I think it can be forgiven since it's all edible and if anything, the meat is the highlight of the place and boy, does the meat deliver satisfying taste (wow, does that not sound right...=X). Jin Yuan may be easy to miss since it's, like said, a hole in the wall type of place, but just know it's in the cheap plaza where Asia Buffet and Smart & Final are. Jin Yuan is easier to find now thanks to the hustlin ramen store next door which has mad business. Just look for the crowd. I'm definitely coming here again in the future and I highly recommend Jin Yuan. I have only been here once, but fall in love right away. This place reminded me of my favorite pork chop rice place in Taiwan, the flavor is very authentic. I ordered the pork chop rice dry noodle and my friend ordered the pork chop rice. I usually like to dry noodle more than rice, but that day the dry noodle did not have any flavor. I had to add a whole bunch of chili sauce to give it some taste. For side dishes, the bamboo was to die for! It has very good flavor and very addicting. Ever since they changed the name everything has gone down including the quality of the pork chops. I had ordered pork chop rice for my entire family. My excitement soon turned into a sour face when I opened the boxes of goodness to find 3 measly pieces in each box. I couldn't believe it! I thought it was a mistake until I opened all of them to be equally portioned like the first disappointing box. Famous for it's (smallish menu) pork chop rice, noodle, bamboo shoots steamed with meaty pork bits as well as chicken chop and a few other Taiwanese style favorites, most everyone's been to Jin Yuan at least once. It's a terrible place to look for parking, packed in with ramen on one side, Smart & Final on the other and Home Depot across the street. The pork is fantastic, fried but not oily. The noodles are a little plain in taste lately and the last time I went, the noodles were almost undercooked... The steamed bamboo shoots has also been getting smaller and smaller (and the price went up...). Just not as tasty as before. Wow, I'm baffled by the rave reviews about the chops. I am Taiwanese, and I know my chops, and I'm always searching for the best ones, so when I read how great this place was, I naturally was eager to try it. I got a takeout order of just the fried pork chops to try. It wasn't even legit! It doesn't have the flavor that the authentic Taiwanese chops have. There's a sweetness to it, which is weird. It's supposed to have the special spices which all Taiwanese people know about. Worse, it was a piece of greasy pork - no crispness and little flavor. Very disappointing! And it was a small, stingy piece for $5 (see picture)! I wouldn't mind the price it was a truly legit piece of Taiwanese pork chop, but this wasn't! True authentic Taiwanese food, soooooo good! I remember eating at their original location in Taipei and was blown away by their famous pork chops and chicken thighs. Now they have migrated to LA and the flavor is still as delicious as ever. I actually live in Chicago, but whenever I fly to LA to visit my relatives I have to pay Jin Yuan a visit. Its easily one of my top five restaurants ever. If you are a first timer, I would definitely recommend the soup noodles and pork chops - so simple yet so satisfying. If you are one with a larger appetite like me, make sure you try their chicken also - I don't know how they do it, but the flavor is unlike any other chicken I've ever had. In a word: unbelievable. Service is poor without even common curtesy from the waitresses such as please or excuse me or thank you. Water is self served. And I still have to pay tips at the end? Pro: I really love the pork chops here and their side dishes are good too. I also really like their bamboo shoot dish (which we always order extra ones to go). Con: I do not like their rice (way too dry for me so we actually eat our own rice at home and order just the pork chops alone and not the platter pork chop dish) Maybe I'm too picky about rice^^ The plaza parking can be difficult at times and sometimes impossible. Often times I ask someone to come with me to pick-up food to go so they can run inside to get the food while I circle around. The employees are a little distant and cold to talk to in person and over the phone. I really wish they are a little warmer to make it a friendlier atmosphere. They are known for their pork chop rice and this place seriously has the best pork chop rice ever! You can get the pork chop with either noodles or rice and both are definitely worth trying. Many of their appetizers such as the bamboo shoots are also very delicious. All of the food here reminds me of the kind of traditional food I would find in Taiwan. Come find simplicity at its best at Jin Yuan. Food: Traditional Taiwanese food with a simple menu. What they lack in variety (they only have about 20 options on their menu), they make up in quality...and I'm glad for it. My coworkers all rave about their pork chops, but I opted for the chicken legs with fermented veggies in noodle soup for $7.50. My oh my, the noodles were cooked to the perfect consistency which is something I'm extremely picky with. The broth was delicious. My favorite part was probably the cucumbers, but that came along with every entree. I didn't have the chance to try the chicken legs though but it was a generous helping. Unlimited tea and water near the register as well so you never have to wait for refills. Service: It seems that the service here is hit or miss, but the visit we had here last week was very pleasant. Sure our waitress had an extremely hard time understanding English, but she was very friendly nonetheless. The cook who brought us out our plates of food was very polite, and he would actually say "you're welcome" to every thank you. I love that. One of the older waitresses came back later to check if all our food was brought out. Towards the end of our meal, she offered us free servings of rice if we had wanted some more. My auntie had such great experiences at this restaurant when she lived in Taiwan, that when she found that there is one in LA, she just had to try it. She drove here from North Ca to eat here and we all went as a family. I typically like Taiwanese food, especially the Pork Chop Rice platters, stinky tofu, and the Pork Meat ball. Unfortunately, they didn't carry stinky tofu, so we ordered Chicken Rice Platter, Pork Chop Rice Platter, egg rolls, and Pork Meat Balls (see pictures). I wasn't too crazy about their Pork Chop rice because the pork chops were a little greasier than how I like it; I think if it was fried crispy, I would have gave it a better rating. The chicken on the other hand was better; there was some crisp to it, but not enough to my liking. Every rice platter comes with tomato-scrambled-eggs, steamed veggies, and soup of the day, so one order of a rice platter is very filling. The Pork Meat Balls were delicious; it's just the way I like 'em, but they're something that I can find at other Taiwanese restaurants. And I didn't really enjoy the egg rolls - I believe that it was a veggie egg roll and they give you a bottle of Worcestershire sauce to go with it. The egg rolls weren't bad, it just didn't suit my pallet. There is a very simple ambience to this place. Servers are friendly and most things are self-serve, such as getting your own tea/water and condiments. Prices are also decent. I wouldn't come back to eat here just because it's out of the way from where I live. I have my favorite Taiwanese eateries in my own neighborhood that I'll stick to. But give it a try! A small snug joint that reminds me of everything that is TW. I want to just walk in with slippers but I'd look odd exiting. Pork chop noodles is what I come here for when I need the comfort food. I haven't gotten a chance to try the pork chop rice yet but one can only imagine it to be just as good. I like what they do with their chops, slightly (emphasize slightly) breaded unlike some places that like to offer a smidgen of meat with the batter. Additional Worcester sauce can be asked for on the side! I think its gotten a little more pricey but hey, what can you expect with this lovely economy we have going on here.
