I was in the area and decided to check this out. This review is a little weird since it's only based on one particular dish. I'm giving this 4 stars to say it off the bat. The parking for the place is in a shopping center and you'll have no trouble finding parking for the most part. The shopping center has a market and a collection of other Asian establishments to check out. The space, it's kind of a hole in the wall. While everything is reasonably clean inside it's somewhat got this intimate dive bar vibe to it but it's just a Taiwanese food joint. The service is fine. You're greeted and seated plus the place is small so they are reasonably quick on service. Came here in the afternoon and had no issues with anything. So I'm usually pretty critical in my reviews but this is more an existential conundrum. This place specializes in a hot sizzling plate of meat, corn and pasta. You either get it with black pepper sauce or mushroom sauce or both. This particular dish is old school Taiwanese and it is prevalent there but somehow not really represented in restaurants here. In fact, there are only a small handful of restaurants in greater LA county and one slightly outside of it that makes this dish authentically and it's done reasonably well here. You normally find this at a night market or an open food garage stall at the bottom of a building in Taiwan. The conditions of those places are far from clean or sanitary so this may actually be a step up. To summarize, they have other items on the menu but it's unique they have Taiwanese hot sizzling plates and they are good. It's not a culinary masterpiece it's just comfort food. Plenty of Hong Kong cafes, Korean joints, and etc have somewhat similar concepts authentic in their own origin and ways but this exact Taiwanese dish surprisingly is pretty hard to find and since they did this well when I came in they get the 4th star. This is like trying to find a good authentic sukiyaki in LA. If a place gets it right, oh boy they might get a pass on other things if so. read more

Given that I am Taiwanese, this is a fantastic spot to enjoy authentic street food without having to visit the bustling night markets. I really liked the addition of the complimentary 红茶 and corn soup, both nostalgic dishes that are essential to the experience! I was in the area and was looking forward to trying somewhere new. I got so excited after we sat down and saw the menu. I had forgotten about the sizzling iron plates until recently I came across some YouTube videos. Just days later this is in front of me? What?! It reminded me of my childhood in Taiwan when my parents would take me to restaurants serving these sizzling iron plates and I remember they were so good. I started reminiscing and told my family about those memories. Then I saw the grilled corn and I assumed this is an authentic Taiwanese restaurant. My husband and my 8yo son ordered the sizzling iron plates while I opted for the san bei ji bento because I love san bei ji. I figured I could just taste my husband's or my son's. lol. My 5yo daughter loves beef noodle soup so that was what she ordered. When the sizzling iron plates arrived, I tried them, but I was let down because it didn't taste as good as I remembered and in fact, I thought the black pepper sauce had an interesting initial tangy taste to it. My husband enjoyed his while my son did not. The san bei ji came and although the whole bento portion was big, it did not look like the san bei ji I know. There were onions in this! I don't know any san bei ji with onions as one of the ingredients. The beef side tasted better, imo, than the main. The meat sauce on the rice was underwhelming, and the corn and ham side had a strange sour taste, like it was perhaps spoiled. The beef noodle soup came and though the beef pieces were generously big and tender, the flavor didn't impress me. My daughter doesn't eat tendon (yet) so she didn't quite enjoy it. The grilled corn looked so delicious but it was just okay. It also didn't have the taste I remembered as when I had them in Taiwan decades earlier. It is hard to find an authentic and good Taiwanese food in SGV nowadays, so when I saw one I go! 1 Sizzling plate with beef and chicken: Yummy! The beef was very tender and the chicken skin was cripsy and juicy the inside. The plate also came with noodle and an egg. Further, you can choose black pepper, mushroom or both sauces, but I chose black pepper sauce on the side. It also came with tea, corn soup. This is a very fulfilling plate. 2. Oyster omelet/ o-ah-jian: i took one bite and i almost cried. Why? Because the sauce tasted exactly what I remember of the ones from Taiwan ( a bit thick but very good). The o-ah-jian can use some of that slimy thing (i dont know what to call it) but that's just a personal preference. 3. Stinky tofu: It is good. I talked to the couple next to me, they also enjoyed their food. Overall, this is a pretty authentic Taiwanese restaurant. Moreover, everyone was very mice and attentive. Definitely a place to try. I have to say I have never been to this place ever but know it has been around for decades. It's located in a small shopping store area that also has a supermarket, some other tea places, and a parking lot that is usually pretty busy. Stumbled upon this place by surprise as I was looking for Taiwanese food in Rowland Heights area. There are other competing restaurants in this plaza but this hole-in-the-wall was really worth. Although small place, I saw many people order takeout here so it must be good. Also, they put a sign outside that says the chef has 20+ years of experience so I figured the food should be good. Upon entering, I noticed that the walls are decorated with cartoon drawings simulating being in Taiwan at the night markets. Got seated relatively quickly and decided to order their sizzling beef steak with mushroom sauce (you can choose either mushroom or black pepper sauce). This was SO delicious. When it came out, keep in mind this is served on a piping hot plate. The steak was cooked perfectly and was super soft. The corn soup was comforting as well as the black tea on the side. I was super full from eating this and wish I was able to try some of the other items on their menu. Their portion and price size is fair, and as someone who went to Taiwan recently, I think the food is pretty legit. I'd definitely come back and try some other food items next time. read more
