Made a visit here on a summer Friday morning and the service to be seated was prompt. Obviously the breakfast burrito is the go to and I must say very nicely done for CO Springs. The flavors were perfect, ingredients were fresh, and perfect balance. The full size is quite large so definitely go hungry. The half size portion is much more reasonable and well priced for the quality! Homeless tend to hang around and come in begging for food which was a turn off but the management took care of that real quick (out of their control, really). I've heard about this place so had to stop by. Food sizes are huge! I asked for a 1/4 grump but with the eggs on the side. I was told that I would be charged a plate fee to separate the eggs. Ridiculous. I ended up saying no eggs so they took 20 cents off of the meals price. Super fast service and the food was delicious, though. I was visiting Colorado and was wondering places to try. This place was one of the top spots I heard of online. Looking at the heavy portions, I was easily convinced. Here's our experience on a Saturday morning. AMBIANCE: Parking: The parking plazaa is really small (5 cars about). However there is metered parking around the area. Seating: It's very intimate. There is inside seating for about 10 people inside and about 12 people (3 groups) outside. Feels: The surroundings are the outter ends of Colorado Springs thus it is not an extremely busy area. The diner itself is very intimate, if you seat inside you can easily see and smell the food being cooked. A vibrant place decorated with small business stickers and their awards. The music ranges from pop to hip-hop. Great place for people of all ages FOOD: Breakfast Burrito (Recommend) I requested for all three meats with half and half chile verde and gravy sauce. It was an extremely filling dish. I had to take leftovers home. It was extremely flavorful. I enjoyed the chorizo sausage and bacon combo and the rich cheese. The chile verde gave it an extra kick and the gravy provided a good savory taste. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Fantastic. Good energy, knowledgable information, and welcoming personalities. Their energy made this place extra memorable. TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. This place provided a great impression for my takes on Colorado. If I'm going to dine here it's going to be at this location. It's teeny and comfortable. I love the staff so much. Kings chef diner is exciting because the amount of enthusiasm that pours through these doors for patrons coming to eat. The proclaim the best chili and I will flat disagree, you want chili you've got to travel down to New Mexico hands down, argue with me I really don't care. On the sweeter side I will agree the French toast is just delicious. I wish they'd do away with individual packages syrup and or replace with pure maple syrup. While driving through Colorado Springs, I knew there was one diner I wanted to go too: The King Chef Diner.  It had been on the Food Network before! Atmosphere: It's a small, purple, castle located on the main road.  If you aren't familiar with, "yes that is a diner," then you'll wonder what you are driving by.  That being said, it's one of the best atmospheres out there! The inside 13 people at the most, and everyone must sit at the bar.  You can watch the chef in the back or talk to the waitress.  Everyone speaks to everyone, and you immediately have to meet new friends.  It's clear that it's a local favorite. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh, with plenty of whipped cream.  I have no complaints. Service: For the entire diner, there is one waitress and one cook.  Which makes sense because it's so small!  Our waitress was extremely friendly, knew almost everyone, and our food came out quickly. Food: King Chefs diner is open for breakfast and lunch, and you can order anything at anytime.  The King Chef diner has unique options such as a breakfast burrito. The portions are huge. The burrito had: The burrito had a flour tortilla stuffed with; two scrambled eggs, sausage, grilled onions, hash browns & shredded cheese. I choose to top mine with their signature green chili!  It was spicy (which I like!).  It was one of the best burritos I have ever had.  I had watched the Food Network episode so I knew to come hungry.  My husband and I had also run earlier and I even I struggled to finish the burrito. Looking for a real Diner, this is the spot! Fast and friendly service and the food was incredible. Brooke and Casey made us feel right at home when we arrived and helped make room for the three of us right away. The portions are huge and everything we had was on point. I got a half order of The Thing and everything about it was perfect. Recently had breakfast at King's Chef while on vacation to Colorado springs. This place is so tiny and wonderfully retro! Parking is limited, an eensy weensy lot next to the building, or street parking. There was some seating available outside (picnic tables), and indoors it was counter-side only, maybe room for 15 people or so. The service was great, you could tell they get a lot of regulars here. The atmosphere was only enhanced by the Sinatra tunes played over the waitress's iPhone. It was like being transported back in time. The food is classic diner fare, and they are known for their breakfast burrito. If you can manage to clean your plate here, they'll give you a "Clean Plate Club" sticker to brag with. I did not earn this distinction, no matter how I tried to make a dent in my massive, delicious omelet. Their hash browns are probably the best I've had anywhere. Bring an appetite!! read more

Located close to downtown (off bijou) it adds some character to a virtually non-existent breakfast scene and a modest lunch scene. I work downtown so don't get this this place in the evening, but visit semi-frequently for breakfast and lunch. This place is not for the faint of heart as the portions are big and its good old school food. I like it because its not stuffy and has some character. Why did I have a bagel before I came. The portions are ginormous. I want to be in The clean plate club. I did not bring an appetite but what I had was fantastic. Best hash browns I've had in a long time. Casey knows how to slang the hash. No Raw bit's all cooked perfectly, over medium egg that was actually over medium, and some nicely toasted toast. I know that's a boring breakfast. Holy green chilies I'll be back. Say a woman clean her plate and order some more was impressed. They had so many things I wanted to try but just wasn't hungry. Went there for a meeting. I love the smallness of the location it reminds you of old school dining cars. And I'm sure when it's busy it's standing room only and eat your plate and get out. Perfect 5 stars for the "small diner/greasy spoon" type place. Just two employees and enough seats for maybe 10 people shoulder to shoulder. I ordered some sloppy mess of a breakfast meal with potatoes, onions, peppers, eggs, and sausage gravy. Everything was cooked to perfection just as I like it. Not to mention that there was a huge amount of food. The wife ordered a grilled cheese and bacon fries. I have never seen such a large amount of fries and cheese and fresh cooked bacon all in one place outside of a basket. She couldn't finish. They don't take credit or debit so bring some cash. The thing that initially got me curious is that it looks like a kids bouncy house and the banner on the roof said "The Food Sucks and The Service is Worse" (or something like that). How could I not want to try?? On top of that, all the guys in our office headed to King's Chef at least a couple times a month, every time they'd come back in the best mood. So I finally decided to try it. YUM!!!! Best burgers and even though I didn't want to have pepper on my fries, he (the chef, aka "Burger Nazi") made me. So I had pepper on the fries! WONDERFUL!!! For like about $13, this was enough food and a different take on diner food. Not many diners open, but glad to come here and hope it stays open as I will come back if I visit again.
