We ordered three choice meals--but don't get confused as it means rice or noodle as one, then spring roll as the second, and main dish choice as the 3rd one. We ordered two main dishes each instead of spring roll, which the server mistakenly took, and they honored our order as it was. The chef later notified us that it should be rice or noodle, one spring roll and a main dish choice for $14.75 meal. It was a fresh, tasty, great meal, as the chef cooked the meal upon order, not pre-made. The restaurant itself doesn't really offer any good atmosphere or ambience, so perhaps not good for your date. Very Disappointing Experience at King's Chinese Restaurant We ordered pork egg rolls and received vegetable egg rolls instead. The egg rolls were extremely greasy and tasted like they were filled with nothing but oil. The pork chow mein was also dry and disappointing. Unfortunately, this ruined my mom's 73rd birthday dinner, which was supposed to be a special occasion for our family. Very disappointing experience overall. So I took my son and granddaughter out to Kings Express Chinese Restaurant at 8112 Sheldon Rd, Ste 700, Elk Grove, CA 95624. We had never been here before. The reviews were mixed on Yelp, but the restaurant has been there for many years and is family owned and operated. Arriving, I noted that it looked like it was set up more for take out but there were tables and comfortable chairs and the walls had some nice paintings on them. The decor was very plain and the restaurant was not very big. It was clean and well maintained. We did not have a specific server, as each family member helped us. Overall, we were all satisfied with the service. Everyone was very nice and seemed genuinely appreciated we were there. So here comes the food: Beef and Broccoli - fresh made, quality ingredients. Sweet and Sour Pork - the best I've had in a long time. The pineapple based sauce was what made it so good. Combo Egg Foo Young - fresh made, perfectly cooked, the best I've had in years. Steamed rice was also perfect. My granddaughter, son and I tried the Chicken Wings. Everyone loved them. These once again were quality and was my grandaughters favorite. While there, I saw several take outs, one was for the Wor Wonton Soup, a favorite in other reviews.The owner came over to our table and talked with us about how they use the best and freshest ingredients. Based on my experience, I agreed. Now I did find the sauces on the Egg Foo Young and Beef and Broccoli to be slightly saltier to my taste, but they were still excellent and many people prefer a little salt. Their salt and pepper calamari appetizer is good. Recent walk-in order, we tried the Kings [House] Chow Mein and the General Chicken to go. No dine-in customers on a hot weekend but while I waited they did have a Dyson fan to keep me cool. The food took only around 10 minutes to make/be ready, maybe because I was the only customer 10 minutes after they opened for the day. Anyway, the Kings Chow Mein and the General Chicken were both very nice portions (styrofoam clamshells filled), each running you about $12.95 for a la carte. They also have combos, lunch plates with rice, family dinners, appetizers, wonton/noodle soups, fried rice, egg fu young, chow mein/chow fun, clay pot, seafood, poultry, beef, pork, party platters and trays. Rating is based mainly on the food: We ordered the following: combination chow mein, combo fried rice, salt and pepper pork, wor of wonton soup, mapo tofu. The soup had a simple clear broth that had good flavor that is adjustable to your taste. It had the usual vegetables, but the best thing about it was the wonton. They were flavorful and meat was tender. I like that the food was not overly salty or oily. Everything was seasoned well and the spices they used are flavorful without excessive saltiness. We really liked the way the combination fried rice was cooked. It's not your typical, white rice with mixed vegetables and egg, their fried rice was seasoned with additional flavor making it have some semblance to sticky lotus rice and fried rice. It was amazing because it definitely elevated the dish. The portions were also quite big. The mapo tofu was different than what we are used to, which was expected, but it still had good flavor and not overly spicy. If you're looking for a hearty, great tasting food in a casual environment , I recommend trying Kings Express. The staff were very friendly. They do get pretty busy around lunch hour. read more

There's 2 salt pepper chicken wings and there were delicious! Crispy and flavorful! The chow mien had lots of veggies. I love the texture of the noodles and added siracha for added kick. Have been a long time customer at this restaurant and always catering from them but this time they went cheap with their salt and pepper wings. The large tray that they usually use was replaced with a short tray. It was packaged with a high foil wrap on top to make it seem like it was full. As you can see in my picture below. Making less than what it originally is. Also was quoted $120 a tray on the phone and when I went to pay it was $130. Will not be ordering again. read more

The crab rangoons had such a small portion of mixture in it, it might as well be completely empty. They were also nearly burnt. Genuinely, there was next to nothing inside the rangoons; I thoroughly recommend you do not try them. The chicken chow mein had very generous chicken portions. However, the chow mein was nearly flavorless. I was very underwhelmed. More condemning was the burnt chunks of noodle inside that were hard as rocks. There needs to be better wok management if you're burning this many pieces. Great meat portions, but the rangoons are disappointing and the chow mein needs quality control. I do not see myself trying this spot again. I resurrected my Yelp account just to warn. read more

I have only ever ordered take out from them and it has always been a hit. I think ever since covid happened they closed their option for dine in. Their chow mein and fried rice is pretty damn good. I like my food pretty spicy as well so I always ask for the spicy chili oil. Their salt and pepper wings are good too, but I can tell their garlic comes from a jar (it doesn't really have the kick from fresh chopped garlic). Their serving sizes are huge too. Usually a lunch combo can feed me for both lunch and dinner. It's not the best Chinese food but it's cheap, it's convenient and portions are huge. read more

If we call in around 11am they usually can get it ready in 30mins. They tried to accommodate your order which is really nice when you need food as soon as possible. My husband randomly picked this spot because our normal spot was closed. This made me cringe, as I knew he did not bother to check reviews. As I was reading through the reviews (after he already ordered) I had little hope of a decent meal. Food was ready fairly quickly, about 15 minutes. Most Chinese food places pack their containers, this one was less than full. The potstickers seemed like they were from the frozen section at Costco. The chow mien was the thicker noodles and very bland. All the soy sauce we dumped on it still didn't help. Broccoli beef was decent, plenty of beef and large florets for broccoli. Honey walnut shrimp was equally decent. Their orange chicken was a miss though as it was very sweet and dry. Unfortunately this place was a miss for us. We only liked the sweet and sour chicken and pork fried rice, all the other dishes were pretty bland. The Mongolian chicken didn't really have a taste to it and orange chicken needed more flavor.
