The people at the desk and the techs were very nice. The veterinarian that I saw was less than impressive (I don't remember her name). They did blood work on my cat before a teeth cleaning, one liver enzyme was high, when the vet called to tell me that she was not comfortable putting my cat under anesthesia because of the high enzyme but would be willing to put my cat under anesthesia for a sonogram that could cost up to around $900, this was a money grab and not in the best interest of my pet, she then tried to get me to buy liver care for my cat before even knowing what was wrong. I was given the choice to have them do the sonogram there or schedule an "expert" to come in to do it, I was told if their techs do it it's more expensive cause it's quicker. This told me then they take advantage of people in need to get help for their pets. When they presented the cost of the teeth cleaning they quoted me at about 1300-2000, and was told it could be more. The way it was presented information was so scammy, I felt like I was dealing with a crooked mechanic. I ended up getting a second opinion from another vet, redid the blood work and everything came back fine. Was able to get my cat the care he needed for a fraction of the price and no unnecessary procedures. This place will rip you off knowing people will pay. Lesson from all this if it feels wrong, get a second opinion. read more

Amazing place! My daughters guinea pig was extremely sick and he needed to be euthanized. When I called Kingsbrook, they were so sweet, caring and compassionate. They took Finn immediately, even though he had never been treated there, and gave him a peaceful passing. They even did a small box with an imprint of his paws with his name written in it so my daughter would have something to remember him by. Wonderful place and great staff!!! read more

I don't understand the good reviews here. This place is terribly run. Incompetent front desk staff, letting vet techs do the jobs the veterinarians should be doing... Let's start with my initial call. No one answered (early afternoon). I tried 20 minutes later and booked an appointment for my new pet. A week or so later, I went to kingsbrook for the appointment. The door is locked. I call; someone answers and I tell them I am here for my appointment, but the door is locked. They ask if I've talked to my tech yet. Huh? I'm here for my appointment. Watching the chaos outside, it looks like people are dropping off their pets? I put two and two together and figure they aren't letting owners in. It really would have been nice if someone told me this on the phone. It was clear during that initial phone call that I was a brand new client. Besides, I still have an older pet who goes to a veterinarian elsewhere in the Frederick area; they still allow owners to come to the appointments. So this is not a universal practice. I hand off my pet to one of the employees. Then I wait outside. It would be really nice if there were some chairs or benches or something to sit on, geez! I was out there for a really long time. Fast forward to a phone call from the vet, which offered no useful information (maybe to someone who found an animal on the side of the road and had no idea how to care for it). Then the bill. DOUBLE the price of other practices. For an exam and bloodwork. Absolutely nuts! Fast forward a few days to the call from the vet with the results. Nothing useful there; anyone can read bloodwork since the ranges are right there on the printout. My pet had a problem, which is why I brought it in. So if the bloodwork doesn't show anything, what's next? I dunno, maybe throw some antibiotics at it and see if it helps? Oh, that will mean you buy them from us, at a jacked up price! And we will compound it ourselves, so we can charge you even more! After many phone calls trying to actually get said antibiotic (it was at least a week, good thing my animal didn't actually need it), they said it would be ready on X day at X time. I asked if I should call before picking it up; they said no, it would definitely be ready by then. I showed up 20 minutes after it was supposed to be ready. Was it? Of course not. They actually had no idea they were supposed to make it. They asked me to wait while they made it. Nope, I left. A few minutes after I got home, they called and said they would explain it to me while i wait. I told them I left. The person on the phone was flabbergasted that I left! She could not believe it. So she went on to explain how they make it taste good (she was not the first person there to tell me this). Except they made it taste so bad that my pet wouldn't touch it (nevermind my pet eats literally everything--except this). Begin the multiple phone calls trying to find a solution, asking to have the vet call me. Vet never called me. Most of my calls went unreturned; occasionally a vet tech would call back, and not be able to help (nor should they, they didn't go to vet school). My favorite was the one who said she and the vet discussed my case at length--ok, but for those prices, vet should be discussing with other vets, not someone who went to community college. Finally I got a tech who admitted that the antibiotic has a bad taste. Offered to make it a different way--but I would have to pay full price. I ask if I can just get the plain antibiotic so that I can mix it myself. They said it doesn't come that way? I checked with vet tech friends of mine and they said it absolutely does, and that this practice sounds nuts. So yeah, I won't be going back, nor can I recommend this practice. Btw, the antibiotic didn't work. read more

Bottom Line: Very expen$ive, Dr. Cook is caring, Dr. Lynch is more interested in pushing expensive prescription diets and unnecessary procedures than actually diagnosing or helping her patient. Long version: I was peeved for a while that Kingsbrook charges more than other vets, but at least my dearly departed collie-Aussie, Pixie, received good care there from Dr. Cook, so I tolerated the high fees. I was also impressed with the experience when I had to put her to sleep. The euthanasia staff were genuinely kind and sensitive and didn't rush things. (Though, again, I paid out the wazoo for that). i cannot say that my experience taking my cat to see Dr. Lynch was at all worth it, though. I was very unhappy with her interactions with me over the phone. She pushed prescription diets and expensive meds without even first diagnosing my cat. How can you treat what you haven't diagnosed? She didn't seem all that interested in bothering. In her eager quest to get me to pay for her pet pre$cription diet, she steamrolled over what I was trying to tell her about my attempts and plans to change my cat's diet. I don't think if you asked her, she could answer the first thing about the history of his diet. She also *repeatedly* pushed an additional rabies vaccine even though Junipurr is a 100% indoor cat and even though he reacted very poorly to the first shot he had. She just kept harping and harping and harping and harping and HARPING on this point. She spent more time trying to talk me into a rabies vaccine, and then interrogating me about his bad reaction to the first vaccine, and then talking about how to get an exemption from MD state than she did actually addressing the issue we came in for. And what did I end up with after all this unpleasantness? Ear drops (synotic) that she claimed were for unspecified "organisms" that my cat might have in his ears (but which she didn't see under the microscope, hmmm). When I got home and looked at the bottle, it was labeled FOR DOGS ONLY. So I called the next day and asked about that, they claimed that they use it in cats all the time. Hmmm again. I also Googled synotic and found it is a steroid that helps with itching and inflammation but doesn't actually address whatever the root of the problem is, which again, Dr. Lynch didn't diagnose. There is only 14 days worth in the bottle, so even if it were to help, Junipurr will be right back to itching unless I figure out what the cause is and treat that. I had already stated over the phone from the beginning call that it is extremely difficult to place eardrops in my cat's ear. I told the intake person that I had tried an OTC solution when I thought he might have ear mites. Dr. Lynch, when recommending synotic, said they could be used every other day. She did not mention that I would need to place FIVE drops in each ear! I am lucky to be able to get one in while he's eating. So, I am out about $350 dollars, have no diagnosis, and have ear drops that are not likely to do any good. I feel very resentful that I put my cat through the trauma of an appointment but didn't get any help for the issue I brought him in for. I feel milked and u$ed and I strongly feel Dr. Lynch doesn't actually care about her patients but is just a businesswoman. Maybe there are still other vets there that are caring and competent, but after this experience with Dr. Lynch, I won't be coming back. read more

Their attention to detail when it comes to our pets (4 dogs and 1 cat) is phenomenal and it feels like they really care about each of our animals. They are thorough, spend as much time with you as you need, and don't rush or hurry you through your visit. When it comes to surgical procedures, I trust this hospital implicitly. They do the little things like keep the bright lights off the dogs in recovery, they sit with your pet if he's uncomfortable, scared, or worried. Everyone there is really nice, but this is the first animal hospital I've been to in my life who has made me call various pharmacies in order to find which one has my dogs prescriptions instead of doing it themselves. Usually most places take care of that type of thing, instead I have to go the pharmacy that they originally put an order into and find out myself that they don't even carry what I need when my dog is out of medication. read more

We've been visiting Kingsbrook for almost 10 years now, and wouldn't change vets for anything. I used two different vets in Silver Spring before I moved to the Frederick area, and there's not even any comparison--the level of attention and care at Kingsbrook is far above either of the other practices I've been to. Moreover, I feel that everyone on staff--be it the people at the front desk, the vet techs, or the vets has taken a genuine interest in both me and my dogs. They've been willing to squeeze us in (once even giving my dog a full exam in the x-ray room in an emergency) when the situation warrants, are always willing to answer questions that I have outside of appointments, and never failed to talk through exactly what they're doing and why they're doing it with regard to my dogs' care, as well as making sure that I fully understand the follow-up and at home instructions. Contrary to the other reviews, I've always felt comfortable in talking with them about the necessity of procedures and what is and is not financially feasible for us, and they've always been very understanding and realistic in that regard. read more

My bunny had his nuetering surgery a few months ago, we took him in around 8am. His surgery went extremely well, but because hes so tiny (3lbs) he was taking longer than usual to wake up so one of the girls there walked around with him for an hour just keeping him awake and feeding him his treats I brought. We took him home around 4pm when he was more awake and eating. They gave us full instructions on the pain medication, how to check his incision and answered all the questions I had. He recovered fantastically with no issues and took his pain meds like a champ. I plan to get a second rabbit around December and if she isnt already fixed, I'll be using kingsbrook again! read more

I feel it's important to update my review. We've stayed with Kingsbrook as we had a senior dog whose care was complicated. We didn't want to start all over again with a new vet. About a month ago, we had to say goodbye to her. Staff members came to our home. They were so patient and so kind. They are not the cheapest vet in town, but no vet will care for your animals like these folks will. And they also care and show nothing but compassion for the owner as well. They have helped us send two of our dogs across the rainbow bridge. They were so supportive and kind when we had to make difficult decisions and go through those heart-wrenching moments. Kingsbrook is the most incredible vet my wife and I have ever gone to. We have 5 rescue cats, all of which go there. We just recently got a puppy who now goes there. They're some of the most personal people I've met and always have a story to tell. They remember our kitties when we go in and ask about the others. They even asked about them when we walked in with our puppy. When we found out kitten that was 5 days old, they told us exactly what to do and one of the tech's even gave us her phone number to text during the middle of the night when we had questions. I will admit, they are quite pricey. But I've never felt forced into purchasing any of their services, its usually "this is what you should do, and this is what we recommend." You can always call them and talk to a vet/tech, they call to follow up on the pets, and our puppy seems to love them all after being there twice and getting multiple shots. read more

Unfortunately during this time frame I was affected financially (like many) by the coronavirus, and was unable to pay the full balance out of pocket. This was a veterinary that we have supported before in the pass. At a critical time frame this company thought more of the financial aspect that the care of my belonged dog. Im aware that money is a big part of the world, however just like a doctor you should be held to the same standards in providing care. I will be 110% honest in this review, i left this vet to a much much better one. No the second (much) is not a typo. Reason why i switched, was because KB is not all there. They are more into selling you their products. They wont stop insisting and calling you untill you buy. I preffer a vet thats more 20+ yrs in experience and can explain in detail what is going on with my dog. I took my dog from KB to a different vet for the same issue and got more told for a less price. KB were more into playing with my dog. Really?! He gets that attention at the dog park. So its really up to you, are you the type that settles for one answer and whoop tee do or you like to get a second BETTER opinion? I have been taking my cat here for well over 2 years. She is super shy but they always make her feel at ease and myself as well (which is hard to do for sure). My Mother's cat got really sick about a year ago and I recommended that she take her here. Needless to say they fixed her up in no time! She is well over 15 years old and running around like a kitten now :). KAH even called multiple times to check up on her and everything. Amazing service!! I recently got a new kitten and we moved roughly 45 minutes away but I still plan on making the trip because I know the kind of care my kitten will get at KAH. We just took our dog here for the first time this morning and were very happy with the experience. Everyone was friendly, professional, and tolerant of my dog's incessant whining. (He's basically like an overstimulated toddler when he goes to the vet!) I really liked that we were given a tour of the facility and got to see what goes on "behind the scenes." It would definitely make me feel more at ease if I needed to drop my pet off there. I've been to vets where things felt rushed, which has been a frustration of mine in the past, but that was not the case here. I feel like we had plenty of time to ask questions and get to know the doctor and staff. To speak to some other reviews regarding cost, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary in terms of pricing. I only went for a routine check up and a couple of vaccines, though. The pricing for more intensive services could be different, but I felt that the prices for the services today were comparable to what I've seen at other vets. read more

These guys are pretty good. They certainly make you feel like your pet is their number one priority, which I appreciate. They are flexible with my nervous pup, and allow me to stay with him during procedures to help reduce his stress. Front desk staff is generally pretty friendly. Reasons for reduced number of stars: They do use guilt tactics to try and convince you to do lots of extra tests and procedures. This is difficult to deal with, especially if you love your pet. But sometimes it's not logical to spend thousands of dollars on extra procedures "just to be on the safe side". They will also sell you medications that you can buy yourself at the store for much less money. For example they gave me a an expensive prescription for my dog's upset tummy; when I got home I realized that it was the generic of regular ol' pepcid, which I was able to purchase for $2 at the general store. The vet techs are pretty judgmental, even of great pet owners. When one of our dogs was a puppy, they tried to give him his first nail trim. They were unsuccessful and used restraints to hold him down. The next time he went in to the office, he was nervous to go into the exam room. I got two long lectures on the importance of obedience training, to curb his nervousness...even though he was already enrolled in obedience training at the time. read more

Thank You Kingsbrook! We have been visiting Kingsbrook for two years now and trust them completely with our three cats (ages 1-16). A year and a half ago we adopted a registered Maine Coon kitten from a breeder who was "less than perfect." She had been having seizures and had a deformed nose/lip area. We researched vets in the Frederick area and decided to trust Kingsbrook with our sweet Dimples. They took us immediately, spent 1.5 hours with us on our first visit and as many of the reviewers have already said, they treated Dimples and her problem like it was the only priority of the day. We were told what tests could be run and the cost of everything ahead of time. We were not "guilted" into making any high cost decisions. Dr. M even consulted with The Life Center in Leesburg, VA as to what might be causing Dimples' seizures. This is a top notch surgical center in Northern Virginia and I felt very assured that Kingsbrook had this relationship with Dr. Bush and his staff. I was not charged for this extra consultation either. I am an animal lover and grew up on a dairy farm. I have been around animals and vets my whole life. These guys are top notch. You have to remember that they went to school to treat and fix animals. They are always going to tell you what they think would fix or treat your pet-whatever the cost. However, they all understand that at some point no matter how much we love our animals, financial obligations prevent us from going to that next step. I want to make that decision for myself and am glad they offer me the choice. I had to draw the line on tests for Dimples and they understood. But, they continued to work with us and I am elated to say that Dimples is grand mal seizure free after nine months!! Thank you Kingsbrook! We will be patients for a long time.... read more

They treat our rescue dogs with as much kindness and compassion as our own personal dogs. In fact often times they have gone above and beyond in handling the rescues, knowing they had come from a worse place. We have recently moved to the area and our dog was suddenly taken ill We hadn't yet arranged a vet so we had to move fast. We called them at 5:30 (they close at 6) and they had no problem in seeing us even though it was after hours by the time we arrived. The staff were amazing and you could tell that they truly cared about the well being of our dog. Had it not been for their quick response and diagnosis I have my doubts as to whether he would still be here today. Dr Walker was a pleasure to deal with and kept me updated whilst I was in the waiting room. The team turned what was an anxious period (for me and my dog) into as pleasant an experience as it could be. He had to be transferred to a 24 hour care hospital for overnight observation so when we collected him this morning we took him by Kingsbrook to say thank you, and allow them to see him when he is back to his usual energetic self. Dr Walker came out to see him, gave him treats, and even arranged for him to be wiped clean as he had obviously been lying in urine at the other facility, something they clearly failed to notice. I think that sometimes animal hospitals can gain a bad reputation and people assume that the vet is just out to make money given the emotions involved when your pet is ill. In the case of Kingsbrook I never felt this was the case and they were 100% committed to the health and wellness of the animal. We didn't go with the intention of finding his primary care but we will certainly be using them in the future. I can't say enough positive things about them! read more

Although the vets are really friendly- THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF!!! I took my dog in for her yearly shots which would've been around $250 but when I get there they hand me a bill for $750 and then I was told my dog had a tooth infection, needed x-rays, teeth cleaning, etc. which was 'urgent' and needed to be done 'IMMEDIATELY'... which of course being a dog mom I knew something that needed to be taken care of when I inquired as to how much this was going to cost me they proceeded to show me another bill for $1500 but couldn't get the surgery until 2 months out- I was shocked but if that's what my dog needed I wouldv'e dished it out without hesitation but something just did not sit right with me so I went and got a second opinion and when I told the second vet what Kingsbrook was charging me- THEY WERE SHOCKED. McLellan Vet charged me a little over $300 for the SAME SERVICES, they told me there was a lot of FLUFF (extra unnecessary charges) on the original bill that my dog didn't need. HOW DARE THEY TRY TO PLAY ON MY EMOTIONS FOR MY PET AND MILK ME FOR AS MUCH MONEY AS THEY POSSIBLY COULD!! Needless to say I got her all fixed and squared away within a week of the original appointment.I WILL ABSOLUTELY NEVER BRING MY PET HERE EVER. MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT YOUR BILL- THEY WILL ADD ON EXTRA BS AND TELL YOU ITS NECESSARY AND MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE A BAD PERSON FOR NOT TAKING THEIR WORD FOR IT. BS read more

I 100% agree with the review below and the "guilt tactics" are trying to get you to do extra tests that are not necessary, especially because their prices are astronomical! However, in the end they really do take great care of your pet and care greatly for the animals they treat. They always do follow up calls, even for the smallest procedures just to check in on how the pet is doing. They also offer free follow up exams for some of their procedures. read more
