It's cash only (learned the second time when I bought 20 patties and froze 16 of them (ate 4 on the way back home). Yes, they sell more than patties, but patties are the main thing they sell. These are the best patties I've had and I've tried places from NYC to CT to MD to CA. Learned about them on Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel and glad I did. These are made fresh on location, not like many places that sell patties shipped in and frozen. Most of those places have 1-2 tablespoons of meat inside if you're lucky. Kingston's patties are loaded with meat, so you get your money's worth and taste delicious. Brought one to my picky mother and she said it was very good. Wish they weren't so out of the way for me as I normally hang out in Harlem, Manhattan, and Brooklyn when in NYC area. Wish they opened another store in a more central location or shipped out of state. I'll go back but because they're a little far, unfortunately I won't be back for a bit. The quality of service has gone down tremendously here. You walk up to the counter and you greet the staff and they give you this screw face and don't say anything. That's rude and sets a bad tone with the customer. Secondly, their patties gotten smaller and the prices gone up. There patties use to taste better but they are really not that great anymore. The crust isn't flaky it more doughy. Not worth the hype at all. When I asked the worker for a slice of bread pudding (preferably a center slice) his response was "What's the difference?" I told him "The difference is I'm paying for it and your not #1 and also if customers don't come and patronize this business you won't have a job #2" He rolled his eyes and I then told him I don't want him waiting on me. He was extremely rude and out of order. So the other young man came over to service me and I seen he had his mask down. I said we are in a pandemic and your handling food and you have your mask down? Common sense is clearly not so common in this place. The younger adults they have working there are horrible. They are very rude and unfriendly. I don't want to spend my hard earned in a place were the staff is unfriendly and mainly unsanitary (covering up properly with their mask). Another customer standing behind me saw what took place and as I stepped outside she said to me "Ma'am your right, they're always rude." It's very hard to support black owned business when you have these type of things going on in them. read more

The coco bread really IS to die for! At 3pm, it was hot and fluffy and so soft it was almost custardy, yet still bread-like. It also has a light sweetness to it that makes it almost too easy to eat by itself. The beef patty was good, but I found the crust to be a little tough and not as pleasant-tasting, so I ended up scooping out the beef filling (of which there was plenty) with torn-off pieces of coco bread. Kingston Tropical has some of the best patties and coco bread in the Bronx. Their bakery offers breads, cakes, spice buns and other traditional Jamaican pastries. I would have given 5 stars but there is another (but smaller) patty shop on 238th street and wpr that has way better customer service with patties and bread that are just as delicious.
