Amazing food, amazing service and chill upscale vibes for happy hour! Came in on a Thursday night at 5 for happy hour and we were the first people in there. Sat at the sushi bar and was able to talk to the chefs and our server and everyone was super helpful and personable. We ordered a lot off the happy hour menu. Was super happy for the amount and the quality of fish we got for the price we paid, so definitely go for happy hour prices. I started with the lychee martini and it was a bit too sweet for me and the vodka tasted a little low quality. Would definitely try something else next time. I will say the glass was ice cold though and I loved that. For hot plates we tried the tuna tartare bites and yellowtail tiradito. Both were amazing! The yellowtail tiradito had incredible flavor with a little spice. We also tried the wagyu yaki and that was one of my favorite bites of the night. The meat was so tender and it's served with pickled cabbage and the vinegary taste with the meat was amazing. We tried the maguro (tuna) temaki and that was really good but nothing insane. Would try another temaki next time just for the sake of trying other things, it was still really good. For nigiri, we tried all three on the happy hour menu. My favorite was the sake, then the hamachi, then the akami. All were incredible and melt in your mouth quality. Could have eaten 20 of all of these! Overall, great quality for the price, delicious bites, and a wonderful spot for an upscale happy hour. There was not a bite I didn't like! Will definitely be back.

3.6/7 I personally thought taste was lacking at this place for how expensive it is. The only dish that had the most flavor and also memorable was the scallop crudo. I was expecting for the skewers to have that umami flavor but left disappointed. Nothing else was memorable. I guess their plating was pretty though. The churros were strange. They were quite dry and also had a bit of a savory after taste to them. Our waitresses were very nice and sweet. They were accommodating.

Ambiance is super cool, dimly lit, and dark, overall all the fish was super fresh! Some other things we got: - Cesar salad -- SO GOOD, I'd say best Cesar salad I've ever had but it's not fully Cesar, has corn and very unique twist to it, 1000% would order again - Make soy sauce in house - yellowtail tradito - fish increbily fresh, it's spicy, the first bit my bf had his exact words were "oh my f*cking God" and I started dancing on my first bite, it's sweet it's spicy, it's amazing, the managed to make passion fruit savory - Hamachi shunko - I thought was good, not great - Maguro temaki & Hotati temaki - both really good, super delish - Toro and uni temaki -- not for me but w/ that being said not a huge uni person - Crispy rice - really good, really unique flavor

OK, this place is everything plus more. It is small in there, but the vibe is so good. I got seating at the bar which was so nice because you have the guy making the sushi in front of you and he's kind of like your waiter as well when it comes to the food, which is awesome. Definitely make a reservation. I'm not sure how long a wait would be to get a table. It was full when I went at 9 PM on a Saturday night. I didn't get some photos of some food, but let me tell you everything was phenomenal. Nothing tasted fishy. Everything tasted fresh. We started off with some Nagore that was delicious and very well priced for the bottle. As an appetizer, we got the regular edamame, but it came in some kind of seasoning and it was charred that it just made it so good. I literally just wanna go back to keep ordering that. I also got the Uni and let me tell you. It was so creamy and silky. It was delicious. Now let me tell you about the scallop it taste like butter and melt in your mouth. I can probably say we got three rounds of it just because of how delicious it was. We also got yellowtail and they gave it to his complementary to try and no doubt it was so good. I was nervous. It was gonna be fishy and not one bit. I feel like you can't go wrong with anything there. We also got a tuna roll, which was really good. Definitely a new favorite sushi spot of mine that I will keep going back to.

Kinsho is an intimate sushi spot. Perfect for a girls night. The hospitality was unmatched. The food, appetizers, hand rolls and rolls were all great. Their fish was fresh, and very tasty. I would highly suggest the mushroom tempura and the rock crab roll.

Kinsho is super new so we were able to snag a reservation with no problem. It's a quaint, small restaurants nestled off of Rainey. Super cozy vibes inside with the main point of attraction being the open sushi bar. The tables around the bar are quite small and pushed against the booths. You will be seated very close to other tables, so keep that in mind if you're looking for space. Luckily, we came in early so the restaurant was pretty empty and we had no issues with noise. Everything was quite delicious. We basically tried all of their nigiris which were tasty and fresh but on the pricey side. The tuna crudo was okay-- nothing too special. My critique will be about the hand rolls. I wish they waited until the last second to hand them to you because the seaweed was super chewy and not ideal. I prefer my hand rolls to have the crispy seaweed. The black sesame panna cotta was a surprise favorite. Texturally it was perfect but could use more black sesame to dial up the flavor. The service was top notch! Staff were quick and attentive.

Thankfully, most a very good choices! The fries are great. It's weird to start with that but they really are. Same goes for pretty much any sushi. You'll be able to taste the freshness of the fish. However, avoid the curry and katsu. My katsu can only be described as overdone. The breading tasted nearly burnt dry and banding in the meat (see my photo) shows how it was separating from being cooked too long. The curry is as disappointing as their sister restaurant. It's weak enough that I'd venture I could produce a better curry in bulk. Their menu also changes between lunch and dinner so it's possible other non sushi options are better. So do come here and enjoy the sushi, but don't venture into the other menu items. They'd really shine by focusing on a core menu with less accompanying dishes.

Someone recently asked me where my favorite steak was, and I struggled to come up with an answer. Not anymore. It's here. We tried several dishes, and almost everything was a total hit. The only thing I might skip next time is the taiyaki cornbread, maybe. Let's start with the absolute standout: the wagyu short rib skewer. It's sous vide for 48 hours, and I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best meat I have ever had. Ever. If you only order one thing, make it that. Now, let's keep going because it's all great stuff and you need to know what to order. Second place is the chili cheese takoyaki. Don't overthink it, just order it and thank me later. The Hot Pocketz come in third. Not quite as mind blowing as the wagyu, but still a must order. Last on my list was the chashu pork belly, which is still really good, just competing with absolute heavy hitters. I was stuffed and had to order it to go, but If you have room for dessert, the banana pudding is worth it. For drinks, my husband had 2 different sakes and some Japanese whiskey and really liked them. And the decor deserves its own mention, it's like Cracker Barrel meets sexy Japan in the best possible way. It's fun, a little chaotic, and totally unforgettable. And shoutout to Yoshi, our server, who made the whole experience even better. He helped steer us toward the best dishes. Our bill at the end of the night was $88, not bad for all that we ordered. A few tips: make a reservation, ask for Yoshi if you can, and go early because parking is a real pain. Most importantly, get the wagyu short rib skewer.

Both of the sandos were perfect. The wagyu beef sando had a little bit more flavor but it was slight and both are worth trying. The service was stellar and they were easy to book on OpenTable I also tried the green tea mocktail and found it to be light and refreshing and I was happy that it wasn't super sweet My two favorite items were: 1. The Edamame - which were charred in a way that I feel like I've never experienced it before and had such great flavor. 2. When I finally did, I discovered one of the best Japanese restaurants in Austin. Okay ... if you are going to pay $600 for an omikase then the omikase place is better. The tasting menu at Uchi is better. But if you just want Japanese without paying a gold brick and taking out a second mortgage on your house, Miyo Yakitori and Sushi is pretty damm fine. * * * a) Japanese curry is a utility dish in most Japanese restaurants ... and when you get down to it, in most Japanese homes. It is often what you serve on "cheap" night. Airport hotels offer it as the "free dinner" for tired travellers. The curry sauce itself here is standard issue. But they serve it with a Pork Katsu the size of Williamson county. And it is a very good Pork Katsu. That Katsu was good from Liberty Hill to Thrall and from Hester's Crossing to Jarrell. b) My carnivorous partner's Fireball Udon with Shellfish blew him away. Temperature wise and aesthetic pleasure wise. He raved about how good his udon was all the way home. c) Service was instantaneous. I think there was some sort of event horizon distortion of the space time continuum that allowed them to prepare the food and then go back in time and deliver it within a minute of it being ordered. Both of us were impressed. d) The service staff was as nice as any human beings could possibly be. * * * Great food. Great service. The folks who live in the apartment complex that Miyo is in are very lucky people indeed. Either the apartments are lovely and they get Miyo on top of that. Or the apartments are terrible, but they can still spend all their time in Miyo to compensate. Seems like a fair trade. **************** If you read the other reviews, There seems to be some controversy about this establishment. Miyo has fans and Miyo has haters. * * * Here is my read on the conflicting opinions: a) Earlier in the restaurant's history - Say about 2016, 17, or 18, The restaurant was not very good at all. I think at that time it had another name. b) There was a name change and quality went up. Sometimes when this happens there is an ownership change (or there is an owner who swaps out the management and cooking team to put in new blood.) However, things got fixed, they got fixed. c) Miyo's yakitori is apparently still not where it needs to be. I am not a huge Yakitori fan. If your broiled meat on a stick is not $80 an ounce Wagyu, Or amazing organ meats grilled in the Caucasus Barded with lamb fat and with farm fresh vegetables On another skewer for serious taste contrast ... If you are not at that high level, I don't want to pay for meat on a skewer. There are people who DO like Yakitori. They do NOT like the Miyo versions of that. * * * Yakitori is less than 20% of Miyo's menu. The rest is sushi or wonderful cooked dishes. Lay off the skewer food and you can do well here.
