4.5 stars Loved that we could just walk in. We came during the holiday week so there weren't many ppl here. Loved the hot dog and sushi pieces. Each dish was quite creative.

Konbini has been on my list for a long time. I finally came by a little after it officially opened its space. Our party opted to sit in the Papercut space but we pretty much ordered the whole menu to sample and share. I thought that the food was pretty good overall. There were some highlights with others I probably would not order again. The cucumber salad was better than the pickles. I was expecting a Japanese sweet pickle but these were more like the western jarred pickles you would put in a Blood Mary. The cucumber salad though was a refereshing smashed cucumber salad. The Hot Dog was better than the Crab Salad sandwich. The Hot Dog had an asian flare with a lot of umami. The Crab Salad was a bit one note, especially texturally. My favorite non-sushi bite of the night was the Tofu Crisp. It was cold yet had a delicious spice and crunch from the crispy salsa macha. The aguachile was also refreshing and delicious with the citrus. I ended up trying 5 nigiri pieces, with the Kinmadai as my favorite. If you order the items as sashimi, it comes plated sauced and seasoned so you basically get the flavor experience without the rice from the nigiri option. I would definitely come back for an impromptu sushi snack, especially since it doesn't seem too busy.

The best of the best from the same team as Tare. Get one of everything and you won't be disappointed!! They have the same drinks (for now) as the front bar, and they will soon have a working bar in the back.

Cute and intimate spot. Perfect for date night. The nigiri is gorgeous and flavorful and melts in your mouth. Liked that we could order a couple of things or really feast. Service was a bit slower but I think that's bc they take their time to properly prepare your food

100/10 experience. Food and drinks were out of this world. Staff recommendations were on point, and I love how they explained the flavor profiles in each item. Can't wait to go back!

Walk to the back of papercut to find Konbini, a full sushi bar and izakaya. The menu has several carefully prepared pieces of nigiri or sashimi which are delicious, and they also have Sandos if you're looking to fill up for less money. They're open late and don't take reservations, making this a really unique spot to try here in Austin. You can order their food from within papercut too if you prefer the bar vibe.

We also had the BBQ eel which was delicious (a bit pricey for 3-4 small pieces for $18, but it is cooked SO well). We had the charred edamame which does have beef in it (take note vegetarians -- there aren't a lot of veggie only dishes on the menu), and the taiyaki cornbread (excellent flavor and texture). We did get the hippie bone marrow (it's eggplant!) and the Kinoko mushroom for our vegetarian friend and she really liked both it even though she's not big into mushrooms (the kinoko has a strong umami flavor, it's quite meat-like actually). We got the hot pocketz too which are brisket based; they were very cheesy (smoked gouda) -- good flavor but the brisket isn't strong. My coworkers also tried one of their specials which is essentially a Japanese "famed dish" -- it's squid marinated in it's own guts. I tried the tiniest piece and it was one of the most abhorrent things I've had -- it was SO salty and kind of sour. I like fried squid but this was nothing like that; def would not recommend but if you like to try weird things, go for it. We also got several drinks -- the Match painkiller and Puff puff pass (serves 2 people) are both absolutely delightful! Very fruity/tiki-like. Someone else got the grapefruit sour which is basically Shochu in a glass that comes with a fresh half of grapefruit and a juicer you can prep yourself! Overall -- I like Kemuri a lot. The food is a little high for the portion sizes, but it's a solid place to go with friends/coworkers and share things so you can try a lot. Because things come out like it courses, you can easily get full without overeating. And the drinks are great! It's a more casual place inside, but you could still have a nice/fun date night here.

The appetizers were not that good I would skip. The miso ramen though, was AMAZING!! The broth is so rich and creamy. The noodles were also really good at picking up the broth. Overall: 3.8/5 [takeout]…read more We ordered late night delivery from Ramen Tatsu-Ya and it arrived in under an hour. The food was nicely packaged with no spillage, and I appreciated that the ramen came with heating instructions. The one thing I noticed is that the takeout portions lean a bit heavier on rice than on protein and toppings. Negi Rice Bowl ($7.50): Scallion, fried onion, rendered pork, and sesame seeds. We did not really taste the pork but the overall flavor of the rice bowl was really good. I think it would be even better paired with an additional protein. Chashu Rice Bowl ($10.50): This felt like it was lacking umami and the chashu was not juicy or fatty. Instead, the pork belly was a bit overcooked and dry. It was much better in person so don't order it for takeout. Texas Tonk Ramen ($20.75): Pork bone broth, BBQ brisket, smoked and pickled jalapeño, fermented takana mustard greens, thunder oil, and ajitama. This sounded like such a strange combo, and we were on the fence about ordering it but decided to just go for it. My husband did not like it but I actually did. The flavors worked better than expected and everything came together surprisingly well. The jalapeño was the most interesting element, tender with some structure, spicy, and a bit acidic all at once. I would not order it again but it is definitely worth trying at least once.

I came here also because I had a deal from the AACHI fundraiser they are doing this month. Ordered the Spicy Salmon toast and the Egg, Bacon, and Sausage toast. Both were amazing and had tons of flavor. The bread is soft and fluffy. I also got a plate with Chicken Kara-age. Not too bad, I personally would stick to the Katsu. The Chicken Kara-age was not as crispy as I would like it. Also got royal milk tea, which was lightly sweetened. This place does get packed, so if you like to try this place, avoid the right before noon crowd or go early morning or later in the afternoon. The restaurant itself is small, but they do have some outdoor tables as well. The hard part about sitting outside is if you order drinks, I don't know if you can hear your name being yelled out while you are outside, so I would suggest having someone inside to grab your drink if you order any or check inside after a while to see if your drinks are ready.

Sunday evening wasn't too busy and we were able to have the entire seating facing the window to ourselves. You order off a small menu or choose the omakase. They also have specials for the day. We ordered one nigiri of most of the options and it was a mixed experience in taste and quality. The salmon, tuna, hamachi, and albacore had top notch smooth and buttery textures. The flavors were good, not fishy, but fresh and delicious. The amount of wasabi was perfect for me - very up front and tasted like real wasabi. The rice was nice and vinegared, held together well, and was a good amount for the piece of fish on top. Unfortunately the uni was awful. It tasted like it had soaked up the flavor of the box. It tasted stale and had a very unpleasant and lingering aftertaste. The Wagyu was very chewy and not as pleasant to eat as I would have expected from a Wagyu. Prices are a bit high to go back again for this level of quality and experience, but some of the sushi pieces were a very nice mouthful.

Both of the sandos were perfect. The wagyu beef sando had a little bit more flavor but it was slight and both are worth trying. The service was stellar and they were easy to book on OpenTable I also tried the green tea mocktail and found it to be light and refreshing and I was happy that it wasn't super sweet My two favorite items were: 1. The Edamame - which were charred in a way that I feel like I've never experienced it before and had such great flavor. 2. The scallop roll had a thinly sliced shaved truffle on top that made the roll simple yet out of this world. Shout out to the manager who came by just to check in. The food itself was delicious, beautifully crafted, and felt customized in a way that made the night feel unique to us. It's the kind of omakase that doesn't take itself too seriously while still delivering seriously good dishes. I also highly recommend the sake and cocktail pairing. The bartender customizes it based on your preferences. I told her my favorite drink is an espresso martini and she made this really fun espresso, strawberry latte concoction.
