Once again everything was perfect. We hosted our company dinner last week and chose Kinzie Chophouse because the atmosphere, cuisine and owners. We knew everything would be tended to. Planning was quick, easy and organized. Our party was upstairs in an adorable 2 room area. Big windows with a view of the city, holiday decor and wonderful music created the perfect evening. Worst food I have eaten anywhere in 9 years in CHICAGOLAND. The ambience was perfect and the staff was 100/10. The food was horrific. From the amuse-bouche which was basically chip dip in a crust which was inedible, to the potato leek soup which was horrible. Then they so kindly brought a different soup (please know I took a bite and didn't eat it, nor did I complain, just said it wasn't for me) they kindly brought lobster bisque which was almost red with NOT ONE piece or crumb of lobster?!? The sea bass was 1/8 of an inch thick and the broccoli was so salty it could not be ingested. My husband had the pork belly which he ate but said was not good and he had the prime rib which he said was fine. The prime rib did not come with a side so we ordered the $15? Mashed potatoes which were the best thing we ate of the entire meal. We don't chance it with the dessert. It's sad how awful the food is as everything else here is perfection! Lighting, tablecloths, staff, location...but the food, need a new something. We almost came here for New Years and I would have been sooo bummed. Sent a note to management and ZERO response, despite two email follow ups. Highly unprofessional. My sister and I went to dinner at Kinzie on NYE, thinking we would have a great dinner to usher in 2026. While some things were good, I felt like I needed to write in to provide some feedback on this meal and our unusual lackluster experience. Firstly, the good - the steak was cooked well (albeit not served as hot as we usually enjoy) & the wedge salad was on point. The veggie sides also were done well as was the cocktail shrimp. Unfortunately, there were a few missteps that make me reluctant to return, especially after being forced to pay gratuity on this meal. The biggest miss was, as you can see on the check, we were only able to enjoy one drink at dinner, because neither of our servers (was not clear who our server was) never came by after appetizers were finished, nor when the entrees came to deliver our 2nd drink, although we had ordered these well into eating our appetizers. So, we ate our entrée (steak/prawn) without any wine. The prawn was severely overcooked and inedible, and again, the steak was not served at a warm enough temperature. The whole evening started off great, but went downhill very quickly. We did get the prawn comped but it really was disappointing to not have wine with our steak. Bavette's was packed so I walked over to this place-advertised as 35 years in business in Chicago. Dining room was pretty full so I went to the bar to have a martini, dinner and watch the NBA playoffs. It was pretty empty. Got my martini, looked at the menu. People started sitting at bar so I wanted to get my order in. I asked and the bartender said ok. Then I never had his attention again. Now, I look presentable, wearing a suit, well groomed, polite. Some kind of assistant manager guy asked if I wanted to order, I said yes -but he didn't offer to take it. Bartender still didn't come .he was taking EVERYONE else's orders, setting up place settings in front of them, making more drinks for more people that can after I requested to order. Btw-most dressed like they chose between McDonalds or Kinzi...........15 minutes I wait patiently. Now, another manager guy comes up and says did you want to order -I said yes, 15 minutes ago. I asked for the check and left -and yes, no tip. Am I being a little harsh? Maybe-be a walked over to much busier Morton's bar, was attended ti right away and had a fun time at their bar. This was an amazing experience for the minute we walked in until the time we walked out. Not only was the food amazing the customer service was as well. Rafael took great care of us. He did a great job of explaining the cuts of meat and the specials of the night. My wife and I usually split a steak (not to be cheap, but we simply don't eat a lot) and they were very generous and split it on two plates without any issues. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The octopus as an app and our side was good as well. I will 100% come back here the next time I'm in Chicago. read more

I came to Kinzie's for my Chicago birthday trip a couple weeks back. It was a Saturday night, and lots of the neighboring restaurants were packed. We called Kinzie's and there was no wait. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and escorted to our seats rather quickly. All the staff were elegantly dressed, and looked very sharp. Very great impression. We were served a complimentary bite courtesy of the chef, which I don't recall the name, but it was seafood based. I ordered the filet medallions, with the Mac & cheese, and my friend ordered a center cut steak with mixed vegetables. I had a glass of prosecco & she ordered a Negroni. The menu was limited and quite expensive, but because I was celebrating my birthday, I decided to splurge a little. The food was good, I expected more from the steak though. It was cooked well, but could've used more salt. The Mac & cheese and vegetables were great. My friend told our server that it was my birthday so they gave me a sweet birthday card and a chocolate cake with the cutest gold bear adornment. It was such a nice gesture. We experienced the legendary, female-owned Kinzie Chophouse. Happy hour is Monday thru Friday from 2-6pm, and I asked my grandfather to join me. We started off with dirty martinis, perfectly chilled and velvety. Then, we ordered a happy hour feast, starting with my favorite type of fries. Grandpa loved the texture and flavor of the filet, and of course the sliders were miniature in size but massive in flavor. The shrimp Bloody Mary shot was a nice contrast before we got into the fried Camembert and lamb lollipops, peak of succulence and taste. We finished with the signature martini, experiencing levels of flavor and distinction with each sip. Nicole treated us like royalty with a tour of the historic restaurant. Came to Kenzie Chophouse for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend..his favorite steakhouse, and now I see why. The food was amazing. I had the dry aged lamb chops, perfectly seared and so flavorful I didn't need any sauce. He had a medium steak, also excellent. We shared the mac and cheese (creamy with bacon crumbles, solid but not mind blowing) and the fried potato cubes, which were a bit bland for my taste. They surprised me with a cute birthday dessert and candle, which was a sweet touch. I also had two sidecars that were strong and smooth. My boyfriend tried a whiskey based cocktail that was a little sweet for his usual taste but still enjoyable. Service was top tier attentive without being pushy. Multiple staff checked in on us, made sure we had what we needed, and even asked about allergies. We were seated right away, and everything flowed smoothly. The ambiance is dark, sultry, and intimate with velvet booths and a gorgeous backlit bar. It was surprisingly quiet for Father's Day (my birthday) definitely a hidden gem. Amazing dinner from beginning to end! They were very accommodating with our large party of 14. Everyone started with cocktails and the chef sent out an amuse bouche. A wonderful tutorial about the differences of the steaks was really informative. Then delicious appetizers 2 each: Seafood Tower ($125), Mini Crab Cakes ($24) and Pork Belly ($16). I'm not a big steak eater so I got a Wedge Salad ($13) and French Onion Soup ($16). Got to share sides like the Mac n Cheese ($15) and Pomme Paillasson Potatoes ($14) Then I tried some Filet ($58) and the Dry Aged Delmonico ($76) from my friends. The Delmonico is definitely the way you want to go on this, no comparison. The entire evening was so leisurely and elegant. No rush at all, I couldn't believe we were there until 11pm. Service was good. Apps were hit and miss. Crab cakes weren't good. Biggest problem was they couldn't get the temperature right on an $88 kansas city strip. It was the typical situation, first they serve an over cooked medium rare and follow up with an undercooked raw piece of meat. The 2nd cook came out with no color or sear on the outside and cold on the inside. I'm not fond of a steakhouse that can't cook steak. By this time most were finished eating so I had them take it off the bill and ate a few sides and a couple bites of my wife's filet. Sides were OK. Chocolate cake is over rated. read more

We were in the mood for a good steak, and after searching and looking at photos and reviews of a few steakhouses on Yelp, we decided on Kinzie Chophouse. We made a reservation for 8:15 pm on a Friday evening and upon arrival this restaurant was nearly empty, save a few tables. We were asked if we wanted to be seated in the dining room or in the lounge area. After looking at both we decided on the lounge as it was darker and looked more inviting for a laid back and relaxed dining experience. Service was spot on all night from multiple outgoing staff, and we were happy with the menu. We ordered the sea bass, a 16 oz NY strip steak, asparagus and mac & cheese, all to share. We also chose a bottle of wine. Everything we had here was excellent, perfectly cooked and the steak quite literally melted in our mouths while having a nice sear on the surface. When our food was served they brought everything out at once, and we were a bit concerned that we'd maybe ordered too much as all the dishes together barely fit on the table, but once we divided up the entrees for us both to share and served a bit of the sides, it was manageable. The prices here aren't cheap - the fish was $65 and the steak nearly that much without sides, but the quality was outstanding and made this meal well worth the price point. Only critical comment is that they could stand to do some work on the interior of this restaurant, especially on the lounge side, as the appearance in some areas and the visible damage to some of the furnishings initially made us question if we'd come to the right place. read more

Soo.. this is a very rare time where I'm a bit conflicted on how to rate a restaurant. I'm giving 4 stars bc I tasted my friend's steak and it was delicious. It's a steakhouse. Of course the steak Should be amazing. Also the chef gave our table a lil treat (forgot what it was).. all of us loved our drinks and the waiter was great. So there are reasons why I want to give a high rating. I had a great time (mainly bc of the people I came with) Why this is not 5 stars.. my salmon could have been seasoned more. Much more. I was trying to really soak it in the sauce that it came with to get more flavor but there really wasn't much of that either. For a side, I originally ordered their version of au gratin potatoes. Their's really was just a 'liquidy' soup with small round potatoes in it with baked cheese on top (cheese seemed to have been just hovering over the bowl tho.. like the potatoes didn't actually have cheese on them). Had high hopes but they were dashed quickly. We ate upstairs in a private room. Smelled musty and yuck walking up the stairs. Gave ambiance of an old rundown hotel. Staff was friendly and gave great presentations on steaks and what to order. I went against my normal (filet mignon) for the servers top recommendation and it was a too tough steak I didn't really enjoy. I'm a big fan of French onion soup but this was lacking in flavor and making up for it with unexpectedly almost cracking a tooth on a foreign object of hard plastic. They were super kind and brought me giant shrimp cocktail to make up for it but they were rubbery and yuck too. I just wanted to be snug back in my hotel room. This is place is very overpriced. The steaks were really good but that's about it. There was no complimentary bread given, and the sides were below par. We got the Mac and cheese as well as the potato gratin. Neither of them tasted good, and the portion sizes were so small. Also, they tried charging us for the more expensive steaks when we did not order those. We said something and you could tell by their reaction that they did that intentionally thinking we wouldn't notice. I ordered lobster and the meat was bland and so dried on the shell that most of the meat didn't even want to come off. I made a reservation using OpenTable for our anniversary and the day of, I changed the time. When we arrived, the hostess advised that we were late and I informed her NO, we are not, I changed the time. ( I had proof of the original time and my modification, which I was ready and prepared to show), but the hostess said, " it's fine, we have a table for you, right this way." Apparently, it was NOT fine if you took it upon yourself to let me know I was late, which in fact I was NOT. I still had to contact open table because the hostess did not check us in and I didn't get my points and OpenTable sent me an email saying I missed my reservation, which I didn't. We almost left and said forget this place, it doesn't take much for me to leave an establishment. People want to get fake attitudes when I'm about to spend MY money, I don't need that kind of hostility. Our server, Rafael, more than made up for the hostess. Our steaks were great, our drinks were strong and our complimentary dessert was perfect. My husband wants to come back and I'm on the fence about returning. My friend and I went to Kinzie's on Christmas Eve for a nice dinner. The booth was lovely and the vibe was cozy.. The bartender made a lovely Aviation and then things went downhill. We ordered the rosemary bread. It was definitely not fresh baked and it was cold. Yikes. We ordered our mains. I got the filet medallions and ask the server what side he recommended between the carrots or the mac and cheese. He recommended mac and cheese. My friend had the sea bass which was ok. My medallions arrived on the plate with no sauce, no garnish, nothing. I will say it was my fault for not asking about a sauce. The mac and cheese, it was obvious that there were hotel pans of it in the kitchen. I noticed a few other tables had mac and cheese too. It was ok, not spectacular. For dessert, I had the mango sorbet which was delicious. Again, maybe it was because it was Christmas Eve, but we were sorry we picked this restaurant. Brought out our steak mooing and cold asked for it hotter then they brought back legit like 1/4 of the 40 oz we ordered then the second round was even more rare. Octopus came cold then it never came back. I understand how hard NYE from the service side is but GOD DAHM was this one of the worst experiences Ive had eating in Chicago. I would genuinely rather forage for berries or fish along concrete beach than go through this bs again. The crispy potatoes were akin to what a 13 year old would make. I went to dinner at Kinzie Chophouse and everything I had was great! I was with a large group and we were seated in their private room which was really. To drink I had the Charred Pineapple Margarita. It tasted very fresh and had a hint of spice and smoke. Our waiter recommended the drink and it was a great choice. For starters I had a couple East Coast Oysters. They were very flavorful. I don't eat alot of red meat, so I never get steak at steakhouses. For my entree I got the Grilled Greek Salad and the "South Vide" Octopus on the Grill. Both were fantastic! This was my first grilled Greek salad before so I didn't really know what to expect, but it was great. Since the tomatoes were grilled the feta almost melted into the salad. I was excited to finally be able to try this place out. We came here for a late lunch so it wasn't super crowded. Just a few tables were occupied. The restaurant itself is very old school and we loved it. We started with some soup and it was delicious. I had the french onion and my husband had the lobster bisque. We then both ordered a ribeye medium with a few sides. My ribeye was more of a medium "plus" when it came out. Not as pink as I would have liked it. The waitress offered to take it back, but I knew that by the time it came I would be full and not enjoy it, so I ate it as is. It was still very flavorful and delicious. The potatoes we ordered were whipped with cheese and bacon, the mac and cheese with bacon, and the panko breaded mushrooms with a gorngonzola sauce. The mac and cheese was yummy. I did not care for the mushrooms as they had blue cheese inside the breading as well as the sauce. I could not eat the mushrooms. Our waitress was very friendly. One thing that she did that I didn't like was asked my husband if he was ok with the shrimp and jalapeno topper for his soup. He said sure. The way she questioned it, make it seem like it was included, however, it was an extra $5. It does say that on the menu but I feel like it should be mentioned when asking, or not asked in a way that insinuated that that this was included.
