Just passing through Creede with my dad and we suddenly got a craving for some Mexican. We stopped in town and, while walking around for a bit, asked a local where to eat. We told them we wanted Mexican and they said we have to go to Kip's, no question. We showed up to a fun atmosphere and got a seat on the patio at the counters facing the street. There was great energy outside and our waiter only added to that as he was super iced and excited to share his suggestions with some out-of-towners! Per his recommendations, I got the Pilewski and my dad got the Esteban Special. After snacking on some chips for a little bit, our food came out and we immediately dove in. Granted, we were both hungry and craving Mexican at that point, but we still agreed that this was some of the best Mexican we had ever had! It's not some really fancy or expensive dish like you'd get at a posh restaurant. It's just straight up good food. No flashing plating or anything to distract you. Just really good, genuine food. We almost ordered a second round just to take home and we certainly regretted not doing it the next day! The hostess was surly (bummer), but our waitress was super friendly and even replaced our dislikes beers with ones that were palatable for free. We went mid-afternoon, so there weren't a lot of folks eating, but there seemed to be a frenzy in the place comparable to busy restaurants. Kids Mac & Cheese is from a box (and pricy). Dos Diablos tacos were great. The Wednesday special enchiladas were tasty. Overall, a good (albeit pricy) spot in Creede. read more

Wow, I don't know what to say. Maybe it was because it was July 4th? From the last time we came I noticed a major decline. Food portions small, food quality poor, drinks watered down and service was with a frown. Owner yelled the whole time, was rude to people and had an I don't care attitude. A lot of money for an overall bad experience. Sad. read more

As far as aesthetics go, this place is a gold mine. However, the food is very bland and made my wife sick. If you are in the mood for a good time at a cute bar then this is it. The food however, is lacking something of being desired. read more

Drove through town and stopped at this place as we were looking for a fun local place to unwind after a long - and awesome - morning of snowmobiling and hiking. Upon entry place was slow which was definitely expected on a weekday - early afternoon time frame. Just 2, maybe 3 barflies were present. We sat ourselves at a table as instructed by a person passing when we entered. We obtained our own menus from a table next to where we sat. When the bartender or waiter came to our table our order was requested. We order two drinks and advised we would like to start out with an appetizer. After we ordered the waiter stared at us and looked at us as if we were lepers. After his extremely uncomfortable pause/silence he asked what we were going to order. We repeated we would like to start with the drinks and appetizer and would then place an order for additional items and we unwound and worked on the appetizer. He threw his hands up and expressed extreme dissatisfaction and attitude towards us. It was VERY STRANGE. Only a few moments later the waiter returned with our appetizer and asked what we were going to order with a slightly more polite manner (mind you there are still only 2-3 people besides us in the entire place). We advised we wanted the bill and would not be placing an order - paid with cash so we could just leave. We would recommend AVOIDING this spot in town - barely adequate food and dismal service to the point of almost being harassing. Such a disappointment on otherwise a wonderful day. My husband and i wont be back. We ordered a beer and bloody mary. The bloody mary was horrible! It had some peppers in the drink and did not taste right. My poor husband agreed to drink it. Then we ordered the chips with chiles con queso: bad choice. Yuck! Chips cold out of a bag, some tasteless cheese with green chiles on top and charge a lot for it. Then as my husband goes to pay the bill (it was close to $20 but my husband keeps money for a tip separately) the long haired brunette says something nasty thinking he wasnt going to tip her. When she did that, my husband gave her half the twenty percent tip he usually gives, he tipped the musician and told me "lets get the hell out of here." And we left and wont be back. Its too bad a nasty waitress can ruin a date night. Servers should be gracious and courteous: this lady obviously thought she deserved to have us wait on her and not the other way around. The lady upstairs in the bar room needs a lesson in server etiquette. read more

Good food, varied menu and reasonably priced. Surprisingly good beer selection. Its a great lunch spot when in the area.

Was not impressed with this place for lunch. Stopped in with a couple of friends. I had the shrimp salad, it was not good at all. The shrimp was dry and not worth the $13 price. The bartender asked how I liked it, I was truthful, she brought the manager over and he didn't seem to care either. I will never eat there again. Went here for the Super Bowl with my dad and brother! We absolutely had a wonderful time! Kip was so welcoming and hilarious! Our waitress was fantastic! It is a great local bar that welcomes out-of-Towners. Now the food-really tasty, fresh and good! Guacamole was amazing, fish tacos great, pizza delish.... And the margaritas were the best I've had! I've eaten there two or three times. It's not bad, but it's not much better than road food. The last time I had a hamburger that seemed undersized, was prepared the wrong way, and was uninteresting. The wahoo (fish) tacos may be worth trying, though, as the ono fish tacos at the Kip's in Pagosa Spring were pretty good the day before. read more

Kip's is the best place to have a long, chill-out kind of dinner. They have the absolute best pineapple margaritas (and a special 2 for 1 margaritas on Wednesday evenings for women). They have a great patio, and often have some live music, great atmosphere no matter what. They mainly serve tacos, my favorite being the fish one. They have some good burgers too, my friend is a big fan of the elk burger. They serve everything with chips, they don't offer fries as an option. They have really good home made sauces that you have to make sure to ask for: esteban, jalapeno and a third one. They also sell them. For desserts, they have a a great de leche birthday cake, and I hear that the key lime pie is great. Great place, really! read more

Went mid afternoon to avoid rush in evening. There was only two small tables in restaurant; tables were occupied. They would not seat my 2 person party at available larger tables. Waited too long. Then rushed to end meal, to make table available, to people waiting. There is plenty of empty room to install smaller tables. read more

Great for lunch but really nice 3 to 6 happy hour with live music, a good singer with guitar. Outside seating with umbrellas for shade. Very enjoyable. We shared a chicken taco plate (very good, get the avocado slices too) and bar drinks. I plan to go back for another fun happy hour to try the fish tacos and the $1 draws 3 to 4 pm. The Philly (occasional item) is to die for and the pilewski will fill you up, delicious. read more

Street Tacos and more , we are in Pagosa once a week and stop here almost every trip. Small but plenty room. Food is always great and worth the wait. Salad specials are usually awesome. Try it all! read more

My first KIPS experience was many years ago when he had his stand at Tommyknockers. I have always enjoyed talking with KIP each time I have visited and truly enjoyed the food. I took my family to KIPS this year. I was disappointed this time as I tried to take a party of 23 to lunch on the 6th. I showed up and unknowing was confronted by the host and was told that they could not accommodate this large of a party. The host was rude and I was told we would have to order in waves. This was not a problem but it was the attitude of host. Then we had the food which was slightly below average. This place was built by KIP with the focus on the customer and great food. I really like KIP and what he has done. The place is crowded because of a well earned reputation. I hope this was an aboration as I truly looked forward to going 2-3 times each year when I visited Hermit Lakes. read more

This place is horrible. The margaritas did not have a drop of tequila, the queso looked like something scraped off the sidewalk after someone suffered from food poisoning. The enchiladas were a pasty, tasteless mess covered with a mass of cheese. Everything is served on paper plates, which is good since you would be better off sending the food back and eating the plate. I live in the Dallas area and I can tell you that this place would not survive for 6 months around here. Go to anywhere else in Creede, you'll be glad you did. read more
