I inherited my mom's 1965 Singer sewing machine and was excited to get it repaired and running again. It had been stored in a garage for many years. We made a trip out and were a little confused, as the address led us to a building named Eisenhauer Marketplace. Expected possibly a grocery store? But when we walked in, we were happily surprised that it was an indoor flea market! Not sure if there was a vendor directory, but we perused the stalls and finally found him located towards the back of the building near the entrance. We later moved our car and parked it towards the back. Met Richard, super friendly and easy going. Handed over my machine and he said that he would text with an estimate, and then to let him know if it was a yay or nay for service repair. Note: he repairs many brands of sewing machine/vacuums. Happy to find out that he services Kirby! Prompt service with estimate and repair! He communicated through text, but also stated to call with any questions. Picked up my sewing machine yesterday, he remembered me- my name and my machine. Excellent customer service. My machine was cleaned up and serviced and was installed with a new bobbin. Reasonable pricing!!!! Happy to return if I need any other repairs. Thank you!

He is currently working out of a flea market building off Eisenhauer Road. To get to him, you need to go around to the back of the building and go up the stairs where you see the Dyson sign, he is just inside the door and to the left. His space is pretty cramped, but it is clear he is still doing a brisk business. He also fixes and sells sewing machines and lamps in addition to all types of vacuums. Anyway, we have a Dyson V10 that wasn't working so we took it to Richard. He diagnoses for free! The vacuum needed a full service/cleaning (not surprising after 5 years of use) as well as a new circuit board. The total charge before tax was around $128, which is a lot less than buying a new vacuum! The vacuum came back to us looking like new and works properly again. I am only giving 4 stars because something with how the canister was reattached isn't quite right, and it is difficult to push the lever to empty it after vacuuming. We may have to take it back to Richard to have him adjust that. Also, be aware that as of right now he is cash or Venmo only! I told him about Square and how he can start accepting credit cards and he seemed interested in that concept, but best to assume he doesn't take credit cards unless this page gets updated later.

My disappointment with Mr. Appliance cannot be overstated. This was, without exaggeration, one of…read morethe most poorly managed service experiences I've ever dealt with. We were told our parts would arrive in a week. Ten days later, they showed up with only half of what was ordered, casually mentioning the rest were on backorder. There was no communication whatsoever -- no service window, no heads up, no courtesy call. We didn't hear a single word from them until they were already at the gate of our subdivision. When they arrived, they admitted they were hoping the one part they did bring would fix the issue. It didn't. Only then did they inform us that the remaining part would take another three weeks to arrive. And then came the final blow: they told us that due to an error on their part, the final price would now be $400 more than the quote we had already agreed to. Incomplete parts, zero communication, guesswork instead of proper diagnostics, and a surprise price hike -- every step of this process was unacceptable. I strongly advise avoiding Mr. Appliance.

Hugo Ortega - Electric cooktop, flipping breaker box due to a grounded connection in the burner switch. Needed replacing.

The ice maker on my KitchenAid refrigerator stopped working, so I gave Hugo Ortega a call. I was…read moreasked to send photos of the refrigerator model number, the face of the fridge, and of the ice maker itself. The text I received indicated that yes, Mr. Ortega does work on that unit, and a service call was scheduled two days hence. As it turns out, Hugo Ortega did not appear for the service call, but rather his son Tim. It seems that the father, Hugo, tends to work primarily on washer/dryer, and Tim deals with refrigerators and dishwashers. (They are both able to work on any of the appliances, but they have their particular interests, according to Tim). Personable and polite, Tim went through his diagnostics, explaining as he proceeded, and determined that the problem was the ice maker's motor. And.. he has a Kitchenaid ice maker on his truck. But here is where it gets a bit interesting. It seems that the icemakers on this brand can be different: some sit on the side of the freezer, some sit in the center of the freezer...and one is not an exact "bolt In" for the other. He stocked the side fitting unit, and I have the centrally sitting unit. So what Tim did was dismantle his unit, and used the parts to fit on the chassis of my unit. As he nimbly disassembled and reassembled the units, I was reminded of a scene in "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly", in which Tuco takes apart several revolvers, and knew which parts would fit the chassis of his new revolver. WOW. DOUBLE WOW! With the unit now working as new...which essentially it was...I realized this young man definitely knows his refrigerators!! But the story gets better. I asked if he works on Jennair Downdraft glass stove tops, as one of my burners was not working. He doesn't really service these units, but he went through an online parts manual, and given the symptoms I described, he told of three possible defects...and he listed the parts numbers and the suggested prices for the parts. I was pretty impressed with his efforts for an appliance he doesn't work on! So can I recommend the Ortegas for appliance repair? Definitely! They are my "go to" repairmen now!! Good Luck Yelpers
