I called countless appliance stores and most of the reps were good, but were lacking the top tier support you would expect for buying a high end fridge. I called the local distributor and they recommended Millbrae Appliances. Although I reside in the east bay, I took a crack and prayed they had my preferred model in stock. After calling in 15 mins to closing, Michael picked up the phone and was courteous and willing to help me. He happened to receive my exact model and suggested that he can deliver next day! Not only did he pull strings to accommodate me, he worked on areas that he can tweak and provided me with the best price out of all the stores I was quoted. My wife was in awe, I was in awe and we placed the order asap. My subzero arrived in the am and was installed within an hour. He had a professional team of installers that I was nervous about at first, but proved more than capable to carry the work. When it did light, it often released gas into the kitchen first, creating what I believed to be a serious safety concern. To the company's credit, they sent a technician to inspect the stove. The technician was courteous, but the repair was unsuccessful. During the visit, brake cleaner was sprayed inside my kitchen, leaving strong fumes throughout the house. My wife and son both complained about the odor, and my son later developed a headache. A few days later, another repair attempt was made when a replacement part was brought to my home unannounced. This is valuable information. You go in for a light bulb. This is how it always starts. A light bulb is innocent. A light bulb suggests maturity, responsibility, a small errand performed by a person whose life is under control. But I always feel slightly fraudulent in Home Depot, as if at any moment an employee will ask me to identify a flange and I will be escorted out past the riding mowers. The people around me seem to belong there. They move with confidence, carrying ten-foot lengths of Schedule 40 PVC, half-inch EMT conduit, pressure-treated two-by-sixes, boxes of Tapcon screws, five-gallon buckets of joint compound, and coils of PEX tubing with the calm authority of people who know what all of those things are for. I carry a light bulb I removed from home like evidence. I hold it up to the rows of soft white, daylight, dimmable, non-dimmable, A19, E26, 800-lumen possibilities, hoping one of them will recognize it as family. Then you pass the cabinet hardware and suddenly remember that every drawer pull in your kitchen was chosen by someone with no affection for you. You wander into paint and realize your walls are not beige, but sad. You look at faucets and begin to think your bathroom has been lying to you. The store has a way of exposing the limits of your adulthood. You may pay taxes, own furniture, and have opinions about insurance, but then you stand in front of wall anchors and realize you have been pretending for years. There are anchors for drywall, plaster, brick, concrete, hollow doors, and situations described only by weight limits and quiet menace. The genius of the San Mateo Home Depot is that it does not shame you. It simply presents evidence. Here are better hinges. Here are shelves that imply you might one day fold towels properly. Here are storage bins that suggest your closets could stop being legal incidents. The store is not selling lumber and grout and extension cords. It is selling the possibility that your house, and therefore perhaps your life, could be adjusted. I love it. I love the smell of cut wood and fertilizer. I love the paint samples with names that sound like retired racehorses. I love the garden section, where I briefly become a person who grows basil instead of buying it in a plastic coffin at the grocery store. Home Depot in San Mateo is wonderful in the way useful places are wonderful: unglamorous, forgiving, and full of people who can turn your vague description of "the little plastic thing under the sink" into an actual object you can take home.

Brought the rug in and Courtney over at the return department saw the notes associated with my order, unfortunately it was not noted as to how much the credit would be. Courtney could have just given me the run around and not help me try get the credit that I was told over the phone. She went out of her way to ask her fellow peers and call customer support to get the credit that I was told over the phone. A thank you Courtney, Joseph and Olivia (store manager) for stepping in and going above and beyond to make sure that I'm a happy customer. It's individual such as these that makes a difference in customer service and what's sadly lacking in businesses and industries all across the board. Since the 2019 lockdowns the current manager seems to be hell-bent on making it the most miserable place to shop on Earth. All the cashiers are gone. Now there are just an array of self checkout kiosks and at least 8 of them are closed at all times just to make sure that you still have to stand in a ridiculous line while some old woman looks over your shoulder to upsell you on a rewards membership. Item doesn't scan? Welp. You'll just get to stand there for half an hour while somebody figures out what to do about it. Need to push a large cart full of drainage pipes to one of those three open self-checkout kiosks? Well surprise, idiot. Mr. Manager Man has decided to put giant display racks in the middle of every aisle making that completely impossible under the best of circumstances. 99% of the time there will also be a waddling gaggle of morbidly obese people obstructing whatever's left of the aisle because they want to look at the moose scented candles or whatever stupid bullshit they're carrying for no apparent reason. Need to find a particular electrical or plumbing fitting? Too bad. Every single box has had its contents thoroughly shuffled with every other box in the store so there's absolutely no chance the fitting you need is anywhere near where it's supposed to be. Asking anyone where they put them just gets you a stoned "Uh, like... What?" from the random idiot wandering around. Entire aisles will be cordoned off for the entire day because someone eventually plans on restocking something. They're not stocking it now and they won't be stocking it in the next hour but it's closed. If you dare walk down it anyway a pimply kid will yell at you and that's like really threatening or something. Just in case you haven't been run off yet, there's also an obnoxiously beeping inventory robot ramming into you from behind and a scam artist from some solar incentive sales ponzi scheme following up shortly thereafter. He got his job on the TikTok. Given what an unbelievable hassle it is just to set foot in this place, you might think that you'll be clever and order whatever you need on their website so they have to go burrowing through their own randomized inventory piles but you'll be screwed there, too, because the website automatically reloads itself at least a dozen times so the search field clears itself out and is absolutely worthless. The actual order pickup process is also every bit as time consuming as it involves a stoner doofus reading numbers on a tag to find your order. The manager needs to be removed so things can get back to their usual degree of mediocrity.
