Came here for lunch. Unfortunately was really disappointed. The food was pretty mediocre at best. The ramen noodles and broth were alright, basic. The Chasu was dry which seems hard to accomplish with that type of fatty meat and the beef ramen the beef tasted...nearly bad? The XiaoLong Bao tasted frozen I think and relatively flavorless. But the thing that just keeps upsetting me the most is the false advertisement as though it seems ownership changed at least 5 months ago they have not updated the menu or information on here so when we sat down we were surprised to see that the Chinese Korean food we drove 20 minutes for was no where to be seen. Hope the owner will update the menu on here and not trick their customers. read more

So in all honesty I'm somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars. If you dont know, Starbelly changed hands a few months back and the menu has completely changed. I myself preferred the old menu, but now it leans more towards Ramen. First, the place is very clean. Service is a bit slow. I waited 25 minutes for shrimp fried rice and pork gyoza. With that being said, it was fresh. Much better than something out of a warming table. The shrimp fried rice was good. It only had about 5-6 medium shrimp and by the time I got home they had becomea bit tough. I wish there was a bit more vegetable in it, but it tasted good. Not too salty, which is an issue with most Asian restaurants IMO. I paid $14.75 for this. A bit much for the portion size. Good for 1 person, but not to share. There was a little cold salad at the back of the box that was very tasty, but I wish there was more. The potstickers were delicious. I reheated them in my air fryer, and they were perfect. I definitely prefer their pork over their chicken. The potstickers were $8.99. Pretty steep, but what isn't these days. There were a few other items on the menu I will try in the future that seemed very interesting. Definitely worth checking out. The gentleman behind the counter was very pleasant and accommodating. Was in the mood for some dumplings and didn't feel like driving to my usual spot so I decided to check this place out. First, the staff was friendly and welcoming. I placed my order to go and it was prepared very quickly. I want to say I was in and out in 15 so that was nice. Obviously the wait will depend on what is ordered. I ordered the pork soup dumplings, chicken karaage, and the custard buns. The chicken was nice and crispy. I think a little spice would have made it better. It was served with a dollop of mayo, which I think should have been in a sauce container instead of on top. The dumplings hit the spot...very classic pork dumpling flavor. The custard buns were adorable but kind of dry. Their menu has a lot of good options that I look forward to trying. read more

Quick Update: ownership changed and they are now a ramen place. I have only tried their ramen once and I really liked it, definitely one of the best in this area as good ramen is scarce around here lol. You'll obviously find some better ramen in SGV, but the ramen here is definitely comparable with that of SGV's. A Chinese-Korean café that feels family owned and operated. I learned that they had a bigger location in their previous history of operations, but they downsized after a while into this strip mall. The people here are friendly, and the food was really delicious and reasonably priced. Definitely a great spot and you're looking for some wonderful home style comfort food. Came here with two friends after peak lunchtime so the place wasn't super busy. We ordered some juicy pork dumplings to start and the OMG Combo Bowl - which included black bean noodle and jjam pong (spicy seafood noodle soup). We also got the Korean style sweet & sour pork because you kinda have to when you order the black bean noodles, right? Everything came out fresh, hot, and most importantly very tasty. I love supporting small mom and pop places. Its located inside the plaza off Holt and Ramona Ave. Parking is fairly easy in front of the store and when you walk in you can either use the kiosk to order or you can sit down and the gentleman will bring you the menu. We don't have any decent korean chinese places anymore in IE that I like but this place hits the spot good. So far we had their dumplings, jjamppong, jjajangmyun, chili shirmp and sweet and sour pork. Anytime my husband and I crave jjajangmyun we go here and I even took my mom there and she loved their jjamppong. She said the broth was super rich and they gave good amount of food. Also I love that their noodles are super chewy and flavors are just original flavors that I am used to. It looked like they added sushi to their menu. They also have panda like chinese food as well. The name of this place reminds me of Dr. Seuss book "Sneetches." It's mostly Korean with some sushi items and Korean-Chinese style food. It's very low-key. Even when you dine in, all items are served in plastic and disposable bowls/dishes. It has quite a variety of items on its menu and price is very reasonable for the amount of food you get. I got a sashimi rice bowl which was quite massive. It came with a side of gochujang/vinegar sauce for dipping. Fish selection wasn't great but tasted fresh. My wife's Spicy Wonton & Seafood Soup (jjam pong) was really tasty. Broth was very soothing even with the spiciness. Service was surprisingly attentive even though there was only one person out front, which appeared to be the owner. I'm so disappointed. I have come here before and I was excited to take my husband. We ordered to go and she said it would take 25 minutes. It took an hour, we felt bad because she was working by herself. Once we got home, the noodles were undercooked and the broth taste as if she added water to it to make it more. I was so excited today I never try seafood ramen before, My husband and I order beef and seafood ramen, the soup wasn't that hot. I took the first bite of my shrimp it was cold and have a weird smell and taste to it. I ask my husband to try my soup he taste the fish ball he said it was cold I told the waiter to take it back I guess she try to warm it up cause when she came back I try the shrimp again it was still cold. This place changed from a Chinese-Korean restaurant to a Chinese-Japanese restaurant. When I walked in, it seems the Japanese aspect is more emphasized in the decor. There were 2 TVs, one for some reason playing Naruto reruns, and the other baseball (it was nice that the closed captioning was on for the game). The food is somewhere between a 3 and a 4. The tonkatsu ramen was pretty good, although I think there should be a 10-20% more portion per order. The chasu was very fatty and tender, being thinly cut, which was good. The vegetables were fresh and I could hear the kitchen cut them fresh for my order. I liked that the strawberry green tea had freshly chopped strawberries in the beverage making it a lot fresher tasting (less artificial). The service was spectacular. The lady running the place was very polite and warned me during my visit she was slightly slow that evening, but my visit was worth the wait. There aren't too many other ramen places, and this really hit the spot on a cold (checks calendar) evening in May (?!!!). This place is amazing! The prices are so affordable and there's ample seating. The black bean noodles were delicious and we added a side of bulgogi (~$5-6) and a side of sweet and sour pork (~$4-5) which was plenty to share between my boyfriend and I. The black bean noodles: great flavor, had good amount of minced pork, noodle texture was perfect and to can also add more protein if needed. I ordered a side of bulgogi. This was 5/5. The sweet sour pork was delicious. The batter was light and crispy and the pork was still tender. The sweet sour dipper sauce was also light but just the right amount of sweetness and flavor the compliement the pork. This was also 5/5. The black bean noodles and Jjamppong combo was huge. Comparing to other Korean/Chinese places, the sauce incorporates more vegetables and woodear mushrooms. Location: 5/5 quiet plaza with ample amount of parking. No complaints here. Great experience so far with this place. Still need to go and try more of the different food, but was not able to a few times due to it being closed on Tuesday. So far we have tried the Korean JJ Noodles and the Popcorn chicken, and I have got to say those are real good! I believe when I went in, I was greeted by the owner or manager. He was really nice and made sure I knew the status of my order or when my order would be ready. This place seems to have a mix of Korean and Chinese. I was able to look into some of the history, and it seems like the owner has had a lot of experience in the SGV area before opening a place here. Love to see more and more Asian food places open around here, and more people being able to try this type of cuisine. We regularly go to La Bufadora which is right NEXT to this place, which makes it a perfect combo if we want a variety of different type of food. I found it was really nice to have some different banchan even though there wasn't that much of it. This is the first time I found a place offers Korean, Taiwanese & Chinese Cuisine at once. Since we came here for Black Bean Noodle, we ordered a hot stone which mentioned on the menu that is good for two persons. And as seen in picture, we added two eggs ($1 each) Upon presented on our table, we such in an awe, portion is not for 2 but for 3 for us. What most important is the noodles & sauce were so so good! I cannot describe how good it was! All I can say this is the most delicious jajangmyeon I ever tried so far. The one who assisted us also was very welcoming. The space, even though it's in a strip mall, feels airy and comfortable and bright, and the furniture, a light sort of wood, is attractive. I have wanted to go back to this place for over a year. Our after-movie group quickly realized it wasn't the same place, with much limited menu options. But the female server was so nice and set us up at the six place back table. I noticed the 'real' silverware (vs. the plastic forks, etc. we had a year ago). She served us water and answered our questions, including the changes on the menu. Seems this place is under new ownership and no longer has the same noodle selections. We were disappointed and left, (leaving her a tip for service and information). I rarely if ever rate five stars because that designation represents a perfect score, which means the taste of the food, price, and ambiance are each 5-stars. I can rate a 3-stars for ambiance as there's no view of the ocean or city lights on top of a hill , just a nice parking lot with ample lighting. But the prices and the food were 5-stars solid! We ordered the curry popcorn chicken, which came with pickled onions and cabbage kimchee and all three were spot on! Spicy and full of flavor! After inhaling the appetizers we moved to our main entrees of spicy beef rib & seafood soup and garlic chicken. We always go home with boxes, but not when dining at Starbelly... this place is awesome! I'll be eating here with my family at least twice a month if not weekly! They're going to start charging us rent too! If you don't feel like driving out to Koreatown for tasty Korean (Japanese and other Asian options), look no further than Starbelly in Montclair! I saw that this place opened up recently and I was excited to see a place closer to me that sold jjajangmyeon. I don't have to drive out to Rowland Heights now when I'm too lazy to cook jjajangmyeon at home. I decided to try their jjajangmyeon ($10.95) and popcorn chicken ($10.35). They have a smaller selection for 2 item combo but their menu have large portions to share. I came here mainly for their black bean noodle (jjajangmyeon) with a topping of spicy chicken. The chicken was bone in, so I bit into some bone shards thinking it was boneless. The chicken had a good amount of seasoning on it. The portion for the black bean sauce was a good amount for the noodles. The sauce was not too salty and it had bits of chopped meat, zucchini, and onions. The popcorn chicken came with a lemon wedge and mayonnaise to dip into. It was seasoned nicely and was crunchy with bits of fried basil leaves. The place is clean and the guy was nice.
