Our drinks stayed full, our food came out promptly, and he made us feel like valued guests throughout the entire meal. It's clear he takes pride in providing outstanding service. I had never experienced Lazy Dog, but it is a favorite of my brother and daughter, so after Father's Day Church services, that's where we went. The service staff descended on us immediately with ice water (as it was a very warm day). The menu was varied with many lunch specials, uncommon for a holiday. I chose the Asian Chicken Salad and it was spectacular! When our service came by I asked for extra Asian dressing, and she came right back with it. The greens were crisp and ultra fresh. My guests chose equally spectacular entrees, blackened shrimp tacos and a mo joe rice dish, both generously proportioned. No wonder my brother and sister in law love the Dog. My brothers dish even came with a dessert large enough to share with his wife and judging from their reactions, were very satisfied. As for me, I chose the Apple Huckleberry open faced pie, which was equally large enough to share. Topped with a quality vanilla ice cream, it was fantastic. The crust was especially good. It was so good, I would bring my wife in late just for a coffee and that pie to share. It was that good, and I grew up in my uncle's bakery, so I know a little about pie crust and the like. The atmosphere was friendly but not too loud, which was nice. I wish other restaurants could say the same thing. Incredible food at a reasonable price makes Lazy Dog a great place to go for people looking for outstanding value. They even sell frozen take home dinners, which is certainly unusual. But the star of the show at our table was our server. Unfortunately her name isn't noted on my receipt. She couldn't do enough for us, she was as friendly as she was efficient, and anticipated our requests practically without our asking. Amazing. I will definitely be returning to Lazy Dog. Mega Mid spot. Lazy dog is a staple for many of the SCV. They have a seasonal rotation of new foods regularly, and have a wide amount price points or ingredient specific items that can build a nice little arsenal of random plates. That being said, I hadn't been there in a couple months,and thought I'd take a look. AVOID: French onion puffed pastry dip. I was pretty excited to try the French onion pastry puff appetizer, but it was truly a let down. I try to be pretty fair, and see the good in things, but this was just cooked pastry dough with a extremely minimal amount of filling ghat I would theorize is some sort of "onion compote that never was." The "French onion soup au jus" had no onions, nor was it actually onion soup, but seemed more like drippings without fat. The jus could have just been reconstituted flavored powder, or something just flavorless, thin, and all bad. It was sold as a "French onion soup with a au jus dip, but is really just an empty poptart with oniony water. This was just plain bad. Worst thing I've had from there ever. It sounded so tasty too. We purchased the bacon wrapped Bison meatloafs, steamed , mashed potatoes, and onions and gravy. This is a basic meal that feeds 4-6 for an economical price, and the meatloaf comes with a sort of wine infused gravy to coat your dish, and it really takes the meal up a notch. It could have used a bit more relish and curry, but it was tasty and filling. My grandson ordered the PB&J hamburger with fries. It was cooked just the way he wanted, but the jelly dripped out so he had to dip it to get the full flavor. Oh, sadly, our fries were cold. My daughter got the full chicken salad sandwich and ended up taking half of it home. She got onion rings with it and they were perfect. I forgot what my granddaughter had, but she happily ate it all. This is where they messed up. We weren't even half way eating our entree when our server gave us our dessert.
