They've only been open a few weeks, but Kitchen 18 is already doing a fabulous job with their (kosher) food, service, and ambiance. I went to meet some girlfriends for dinner the other night, and we all were delighted to see that the place was jammed. Lucky for us, there was one table open when we arrived, and it seemed to have our name on it! The hostess was friendly as was our server, and we were impressed by the wide selection on the menu. None of us keep kosher, but we were intrigued that there were plenty of fresh and healthy options. We started with the hummus appetizer to share and we also tried the salami and fig bruschetta. The hummus was a tad on the bland side, but I loved that they served it with warm fluffy pita (white and wheat) and delicious pickles and peppers too. The bruschetta was tasty... I can't compare it to Postino (my fave place for bruschetta) as you can't possibly compare kosher salami bruschetta to something quite the opposite, but it was good. For our entrees, I had the Israeli salad with schwarma and really enjoyed it. It was a large portion, so I boxed half of it to take home, but it was colorful, filling, and seasoned just right. One of my friends had the sliders and the other went with steak, which they both enjoyed. Oh, and I ate more than a few of the sweet potato fries that came with the steak - they were delicious! We shared a tiramisu dessert which didn't disappoint, even being dairy free! (The kitchen happens to be entirely dairy free, so don't ask for a cheese burger when you go!) I love that the attached market stays open late, so I did a little bit of shopping after our meal. I highly recommend a product they carry called "popcorners." They are popped corn chips and totally addicting! There are tons of other unique kosher food items at the market too and an entire jewish gift shop as well (which I believe is in the process of being remodeled). I look forward to returning to Kitchen 18 again soon... It's moderately priced and conveniently located on the Southeast corner of Scottsdale and Shea. My husband and I had enjoyed this restaurant several times over the years but not recently. I will say that it is just as good as remembered. We went with a friend who had never been here.There is a nice sized menu with what appear to be daily specials and a good sized sushi menu. II was pleasantly surprised to see a nice selection of quality alcohol available. Eitan the waiter was very friendly and efficient. I had the mushroom onion burger which was delicious and messy like a good burger should be-besides the mushroom and onions there was bbq sauce. My double portion of fries was huge and when I asked for extra pickle I was given a very good sized portion. My husband had orange chicken and the portion was good enough that he brought some home for breakfast. Our friend enjoyed the chicken soup and sushi that she ordered. My one disappointment was that the onion rings were not available. For a small local kosher restaurant the ambience is nice and Eli the manager was very nice to deal with. Good food, good service, good prices-what more could you want in a restaurant. Would definitely want to go back when we are in the area. read more

Great kosher restaurant. It's tough to find kosher food when traveling so we were lucky to find this. The menu is extensive and they even have Chinese and sushi (dinner only) options. A strangely hostile experience. Their credit card machine went down *in the middle of the meal* and they demanded one of us run to an ATM to pay in cash (just one of us, not both, they insisted). Couldn't do this for time reasons (work lunch), so they wanted a picture of my credit card and driver's license. We asked if there was another way (a check?), and they started to get angry with us and walked away. We finally came to an agreement, I'd leave my business card and come back to pay in cash after work (which they didn't trust, trying to quiz me on the details). Literally, as we stood up to leave after resolving, they told us the machine just started working. It was scammy at worst (cash is better than credit, no CC fees and don't need to claim income) -- or just bizarre and antagonistic at best. After they said their machine started working, we thanked them for letting us know. The server seemed angry, and said "At least you don't have to walk all the way across a parking lot [to an ATM]," and dismissively chucked our bill on the table. I asked for my business card back and they told me they'd keep it ... Why? Yikes. I don't even remember what the food tasted like (I think it was okay?) because it was such a weird experience. This visit was due to several recommendations from acquaintances, who said they've enjoyed their meals here many times. It was a spontaneous stop tonight. I ordered a bowl of chicken tortilla soup. It was very flavorful and contained veggies and plenty of chicken. It was hearty and filling and I'd get it again for sure. I also bought a side of pita bread which was spongy and tasty. I have been eating in this glat kosher restaurant for many years. I always made it a point to seek it out when in the Phoenix area on business. Now that I have moved to Scottsdale I am dining here a couple times per week. I never tire of their fine food. I am especially fond of their chicken schnitzel. read more

Very much enjoyed having lunch and dinner here on a trip to Phoenix. I happen to keep Kosher and when I discovered this restaurant was across the street from my hotel I decided to give it a try. The food was much better than expected. I 've been to MANY Kosher eateries where the only reason anyone would eat there is because it's Kosher. Given other options.. but this is definitely not the case with Kitchen18. The food where was great. The burger I had for lunch was fantastic, and it was massive. I couldn't finish it. I didn't really know much about this place, but all of our choices for Mother's Day lunch were completely booked! Was looking for somewhere different and not as busy to try out, so I decided on Kitchen 18! We made a reservation on yelp, not realizing it was a hole in the wall type place ha. But we were impressed! We weren't sure about it when we first walked up, but we left happy for sure. The lady working there was nice, as we were eating some people showed up who were clearly regulars, which was cool. I like it when little restaurants are like that. As a vegetarian, I was very excited about the menu. Settled on the "18 Bits" appetizer platter as my meal so I could try a bit of everything! The rest of my family all got chicken pitas with the bread on the side. Also my sister and mom got sweet potato fries on the side and they were so dang good. My platter had baba ganoosh, hummus, falafel, and a quinoa salad. The quinoa and the hummus were my favorite part! So good. The pita bread was warm and soft too, amazing. The baba ganoosh was good but not my favorite, and the falafel was a bit too crispy for my liking, but it was good with the tahini! Checked in on here and got 15% off so that was sweet. My friend wanted to go to a Vegetarian restaurant since she doesn't eat meat. I really wanted to try this place since it got almost 5 stars. First off, I am definitely NOT a vegetarian. I need my meat in my life! lol. But I'm always open to trying new things. =) We ordered the hummus to start which I thought was quite tasty. It was actually a pretty big portion. Most places I go to I always run out of Pita bread. lol. I then ordered the Bowtie Bolognese. I thought it was ok. It wasn't the best thing I've ever had or the worse. I thought it was a bit bland and maybe could've used some vegetables with it. I liked the fact that they have vegan dishes AND entrees with meat in it as well. The best part? I got 15% off of my order thanks to Yelp! Woo Hoo! lol. It's a very cute, cozy restaurant and I liked the environment. Not to mention the customer service was very friendly. This is hidden back behind the DQ off of Scottsdale at Shea - went in for lunch. The server was very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the chicken and lamb shawarma (pita) with fries. Extremely disappointing to say the least! We should have been skeptical since there was no noticeable sign out front, not to mention sandwiched between a substance abuse center and rehab. This restaurant does not know what type of food to serve! We saw Jewish, Mexican, Chinese and Mediterranean on the menu. Since most of the staff was Jewish and there were several Jewish patrons, We were sure that was the way to go. We should've taken a hint that since you could not order a Ruben on rye, only a baguette or a wrap, it wasn't going to be up to par. The french fries were completely undercooked, and stone cold. When we asked for another basket, they did come hot, but completely undercooked and limp. Not sure what type of cheese was on the Ruben, but it was really disgusting. We were visiting from out of town and were given this recommendation from the front desk of her hotel. I did complain to them when we got back to not recommend it as it was absolutely horrible. The only plus was the beer was cold. Also, beware... They automatically add an 18% gratuity, so check your bill carefully. read more
