Stopped by here on the way back from Payson with my church group. About 18 people on really short notice. One dude manning the shop holding it down - he took all our orders and cranked out the food in a positive attitude. Food was really good had the gyro plate and a lot of the members got a variety. Despite being busy he made sure everything was correct. Gyro meat was seasoned very well and he stuffed the pita with it. Very impressed with portion sizes. The mixed plate was stuffed with meat. The rice was very flavorful and moist as well and hummus tzatziki was fresh. I was traveling through the area and came across this place, decided to try it since they had gyros. I usually don't eat out middle eastern food because I make it at home but decided to try it since I had been on the road for so long. I was pleasantly surprised and really appreciated authentic flavors. The gyro was very large, came with fries which were seasoned and so good! I had the mixed meat plate that came with chicken shawarma and beef/lamb gyro meat off the spit. I switched out the hummus for Baba Ghanoush which I am very picky about but always willing to try. Glad I did as it was so well flavored. The owner told me he actually roasts the eggplant on a grill and not in the oven which gives it a nice Smokey flavor. Also had it with a salad instead of rice. I'll tell you it lasted two meals. The pic I took did not include the salad and I had started to eat it. By the way the pita bread was soft and warm. The place isn't much to look at and when we were there at lunch, there was only one guy to take the orders and make the orders. In addition, if you want to use a credit card, there is a 4% up charge. My wife had a chicken Shawarma with a pop and I had the gyro special. We paid cash and even without the 4% up charge, it was well over $30. But here's the good news, it was wonderful. My gyro was chock-full of meat and the sauce was excellent. If I had one niggle, it was the lack of onions. My wife thought her Shawarma was also very very good but she wished there was more garlic sauce on it. When our food arrived, it was piping hot. The french fries were so hot that I had to wait a few minutes in order to even try and eat one. So it's basically an overpriced pile of meat on a pita. Almost no other ingredients other than meat. Especially the most important, grilled onions! If you want to try and add some flavor with tzatziki sauce, that's going to cost you an extra 2 bucks! Probably towards the bottom of any Gyro or Shawarma that I've EVER had. Then to top it off, he charges a 4 percent fee plus $1.50 for any credit card transaction. Wow! Having owned a few small businesses, we call this the cost of doing business and the fees we pay to the credit card companies are a write off. The fee a business pays to a credit card merchant (payment processor) is sometimes negotiable and is usually between 1.5 to 3.5 percent with a 4 percent fee a rarity. Which is why some businesses don't take American Express as their fees are very high. So he makes money on most transactions and then he makes even more with the bullshit $1.50 on top of that. Also, know that it is ILLEGAL to charge a customer a fee for a debit card even if it is processed like a credit card. This is a FEDERAL law. A tiny Greek gyro shop focused on orders to-go. Nothing special by big city standards, but a good selection of meals and a great option if you want Greek food in Fountain Hills. We had gyro meat, chicken shawarma , baba ghanouj, hummus, Greek salad, Greek fries, and of course rice, pita, and tzatziki. The baba ghanouj and hummus were both very good. The Greek fries didn't work so well as a to-go item, probably great if eaten immediately, but didn't travel well. The rest of the items were pretty standard for a gyro shop, perfectly adequate but not special. If you are looking for something different from the usual fast and fast-ish food places, and would like Greek food to go, this is a really good option. Although they have a few tables, I don't think of it as a place you would want to sit and eat. It's part of a Circle K complex along with a McDonald's and several other shops, and it's not in a particularly appealing location nor is the "dining room" a place I would want to sit. That said, I would go back again. It's certainly different from much of the food available in town. I suspect the best thing to get is a standard gyro, though we got the plates with all the same ingredients. A gyro would be a very cost effective way to have a Greek meal here. read more
