I rarely give poor reviews, but unfortunately I had such a mediocre experience that I wanted to give others fair warning on what to expect. Food: Just so so. I got the signature beef bone broth rice noodle and would not recommend this. The bone broth was too bland to pair well with the rice noodles, and the addition of basil did not match the flavor profile. The pickled veggies added very little flavor. The beef was tender, but overly salty. It was also unfortunate that the menu was entirely AI generated images. It was hard to know what to expect from the actual food. The shredded tofu skin salad did not look spicy in the picture, but was extremely spicy when it came out. Service: Was pretty slow to get our order, even though the restaurant didn't seem that busy. We waited for over fifteen minutes. I would have expected the appetizer to come quickly assuming it was already prepped. At least they checked on us to refill our water and got us the check quickly. Vibe: Outdoor seating was comfortable and had a good amount of space between tables along with umbrellas for shade.

Came on a rainy day to try out this new restaurant on Castro. Service was fast. Noodle soups were good. Portions very generous. The broth was not salty, beef was tender, and noodles very smooth. Seating was roomy. Will come back to try out their dry version.

Deep red chili oil on top, beef broth underneath that tastes like it actually simmered for hours, tender braised beef, bok choy, scallions, and cilantro finishing it off. Heat builds slowly and stays there, not the cheap instant burn you get at lesser spots. The clear broth version is clean and comforting, more for the purist crowd, but the spicy has way more depth. Noodles are the real deal. Hand pulled in house, chewy with that perfect pull when you bite in, holds up in the broth without going soggy halfway through. You can order different thicknesses, which is the move. The cucumber salad appetizer is a must. Whole cucumber fanned out like a dragon coil, dressed simply with garlic, vinegar, and chili. Crisp, cold, cuts through the spice of the soup perfectly. Get one per person, trust me. Service is fast, prices are fair for what you get, and the bowls come out hot and massive. One of the most legit Lanzhou spots I've had in the Bay. Already planning the next visit.

The server was super patient and nice, and the food comes out very quickly. There's a large variety of items on the menu, from udons (brothy, creamy, cold) to bento boxes to rice bowls. Everything looked and sounded delicious, making it hard to pick! I ended up ordering the mentai cream sauce udon, and boy was I happy with my choice! The bowl comes with cod roe, parmesan cheese, tempura bits, and seaweed flakes. The cream sauce was super savory and umami, subtle seafood flavor without tasting fishy. If you can't picture it, it's alfredo-adjacent but seafood style and much better. The udon was chewy and al dente, perfectly coated by the sauce in each bite. Super comforting meal, and I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!

I will say that sometimes their broth is a bit spicier than described, so just keep that in mind! You can always spice it up with the sauce bar if it's not spicy enough for you. The service is usually fairly good. It's self serve while you build your bowl of toppings, most of the service is at the beginning then just refilling water and giving you a to go container. It gets pretty busy, so it can be noisy and a bit of a tight squeeze between tables. The wait isn't too bad though because there's a lot of tables!

It's pretty hard to find options in Chinese cuisine as a veg and this place finally sees me. I always get the dry pot and I love how it's so flavorful and not that mala. You can pick however many toppings as you like, my favs are(hotpot noodles, lotus root and bunch of star donut). It's pretty heavy and definitely like a once in a while thing. Cause the dry pot has hella oil but I do think that contributes to the flavor profile. It's mainly self serve, but now they assign you tables and bring out your order to you. Service pretty fast and straightforward. For the best ambiance and taste you should go when it rains or when it's cold, it makes the food taste 10 times better! It's pretty casual and a place you can drop in anytime.

Yes, yet another excellent restaurant joins the vibrant scene of downtown Mountain View. Mr. Bao Kitchen's streamlined menu yielded great gustatory rewards. We started out with Tomato Egg Drop Soup. Really nice and comforting, to prepare us for the delicacies to arrive next. Pan-fried Dumplings (Shen jien Bao) were terrific and almost molten hot inside. Surprise of hot soup awaits inside the hefty dumpling wrapper, therefore: Bee very careful when biting into the Shen jien Bao. Meantime, Vegetable Mushroom Steamed Dumplings arrived in a big tall steamer basket with dipping sauce side. Vibrant green wrappers on these were hearty thick, delightful and delectable. Pork Cabbage Dumplings are a solid recipe with nice filling. Fried Rice is top-notch in freshness, ingredients and execution. That's one of the best versions of the rice dish that I've enjoyed in awhile. We opted for shrimp in the mix, and those were plump and juicy. Happily, everything I selected was a hit. Staff who worked the lunch hour and accommodated our outside table were gracious, helpful, also patient with my lacking and mangled attempt at Mandarin. Everyone at the table enjoyed the food, company and weather. All in all, I heartily recommend Mr. Bao kitchen for scrumptious Chinese cuisine.

It already felt oddly hostile for no reason. Funny enough, this will probably also be the only time we come back. We ordered fried squid, but they brought the wrong dish. Our waiter who was genuinely lovely the entire time told us not to worry and said we could just keep it. Our kids started eating it, and then a few minutes later he came back looking embarrassed because the manager told him he had to take it back. After the kids had already eaten some of it. Super awkward and honestly not the waiter's fault at all. Then later the same manager came over to tell us we couldn't drink an outside beverage at the table. Totally understand restaurants having policies, but the way everything was handled just felt cold and uncomfortable. The food itself was decent, and the waiter did his best, but overall the experience was bizarre because of the management. With so many other great spots around with better hospitality, I don't think we'd come back.
