The staff were all great, loved chatting with them. The drinks were on par, and the bartenders were generous. The food, however, was another story. One of the items I ordered was a hummus plate. Let me tell you!!!! This place rocks! The staff is friendly and they are very attentive especially Kate. She rocks! I stopped in after a long day of working. I had the corned beef sandwich with a side salad. Kate recommended this dish and I just admit she was in point. She's very engaging so you can't go wrong when you sit at the bar. The sandwich will make you slap yo momma. It was cooked to perfection. They give you some type of sauce that goes with it and that just took me over the edge. Great location and a good bar for a beer. THE PLACE: The bar has beautiful dark wood structures and plenty of seating areas. The ambience and live music (especially a flute player) are excellent. Bathrooms are tricky to find, but once there, all is clean. THE FOOD: Many many many many beer and drink options. Quite lovely to find a place with so many variations. On the night that I went, I ordered a pretzel and a beer. Beer was a expected (good and cold) and the pretzel was fresh, soft inside and perfectly crunchy on the outside. Came with two dips. Did not like the food here. The written menu will make your mouth water. The options all sound so good but that my friends is where the good ends. The execution of these dish preparations leave much to be desired. How an Irish pub can mess up corned beef is beyond my comprehension. Didn't think it could happen and yet it did. The fish and chips, not good. We even tried desserts thinking at least that would be good. Nope. You have to seat yourself which means you have to walk around trying to find a table for your group. Came here on a recent business trip and decided to try this place out. We sat at the bar which had a nice feel to it. It's located in the Hilton, but I believe it can be accessed from the street as well. It's a typical Irish bar, lots of cool pics and trinkets all over the place. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The menu isn't very large. I had a hard time finding something that I wanted (I'm kind of a picky eater at times). I ordered the Mac & Cheese with beef and my co-worker ordered a steak. Overall, we were unimpressed with the portion sizes compared to how much everything cost. The steak he got was way smaller than expected and it was pretty pricey. He did say it tasted good though. The mac and cheese I got was just alright..nothing special. A classic Irish bar inside of a gorgeous hotel. The winter fries are delicious, although a little thick. The drinks, however, take center stage. I consider myself a heavy weight, and was considerably blacked out after two martinis and two of the gimlet lemonades. They must make them double, or considerably alcoholic. Kitty O'Shea's is located inside the Hilton Chicago Hotel. I had missed lunch my first day there - I got into the hotel late in the afternoon after flying into ORD from Dulles. So I hit up Kitty's and sat at the bar for a late lunch. I ordered the Shepherd's Pie, plus a glass of water with Lime. I also requested some hot sauce - but not Tabasco! The food came out in short order. The dish was piping hot and tasty. I always add Black Pepper and hot sauce to Shepherd's Pie. They brought me a small container of their wing hot sauce, which I drizzled over the pie. Good, delicious hot sauce! The Shepherd's Pie was served with a side of roasted asparagus - which had an earthy, smoky flavor to it - was really good! Overall, the dish was good and hit the spot! Later, my work colleague and I visited for dinner. We sat at the end of the bar. I ordered a salad - which was rather large and filling - and a pint of a local Ale - the Tuna Session IPA (Half Acre Beer Company, Chicago, IL). Not bad as Session IPAs go - the Ale had a bit of a grassy finish to it. I tried to come back late one evening on a Wednesday night - around 11:30 pm - after our event in the hotel was concluded - but the place was packed wall-to-wall, shoulder-to-shoulder and was very loud - so I skipped out and went to the 720 Bar & Grill (lobby bar). It's nice that the hotel has a restaurant/Irish bar to hang out in when it's too cold in ChiTown to go out. Burgers looked great. Fish and Chios HUGE but the Chicken Pot Pie was not good at all and didn't resemble a pot pie at all. It was basically a puff pastry with a slice of chicken on top and two small dollops of cold mash potatoes on top. The sauce was yummy and hot but that's all that was hot and there wasn't enough sauce. This item should state on the menu that it is not a true pot pie. I was so cold and craving a hot pot pie and had to work my way through a slice of chicken and cold mash potatoes. I did not send it back because I was hungry. The service was ok. The fish and chips (outstanding tartar sauce and chips/fries were crisp and tasty) and the Mac n cheese was scrumptious; however, no longer rib meat but chicken in the Mac n cheese. The chicken seemed to come pre cooked but it tasted good. Went for brunch the next morning and was told the omelette was good and the Irish breakfast was good- price not so much. I was given a menus than waited some more. I was embarrassed to tell my wife I was still waiting for any one to take an order. I ordered the chicken pot pie because I love chicken pot pie. Disappointing. Nice crust, pretty nice portion, but bland soup and undercooked vegetables. We ear here when we attend the Blackhawks Convention since the restaurant is conveniently located in the hotel. The food is pretty good. Id consider it a mix of traditional Irish and American with a twist. The bar has not only Irish beer but a mix of drinks that you find at most bars. We sat outside since the weather has been great. I'm glad we did because where this place lacks is the inside. It needs an overhaul. It's as you'd expect a pub to look but quite dingy which made it feel dirty. This place doesn't deserve it's mediocre rating. It is way better than your standard hotel bar. Seating is a little awkward you just have to sort of wander around and find a spot. Walking into this place was a waste of our time. We literally walked in at 2pm or so and I felt like I walked into an abandoned bar saloon with Spotify Premium playing in the background. There was literally nobody in the restaurant like a hostess/manager/waiter to greet us or a sign that even said, "Sit down and we'll get there." I would have been ok with just that! Eventually, my wife and I got tired of trying to figure out if there was any life here and started to make our way out. As we were walking out, lo and behold, there was a waitress approaching. Went here before the Rolling Stones concert kicked off their American tour, so I knew they'd be packed but they did a great job of getting us our drinks and appetizers in a timely fashion. What to say about Kitty O'Shea's. Yes it expensive and usually crowded but it's also a lot of fun. The Hilton on Michigan is our preferred downtown hotel. They have always been good to us, and its a great location. when we stay were at Kitty O'Shea's at least one or two nights. They have a good beer menu and a good menu overall. I have never been disappointed in the beer of the food..I like the fig bead appetizer allot. Good burgers and Fish and Chips.
