For an owner as obnoxious as Kix on Main has, I had high hopes for this place. Went on a date night with my wife and sat on the roof top seating area. After we order our meals, my food arrived alone. 15 minutes later, now my wife has finally gotten her food. They blame this on "the orders come out when they are done". This seems like a very amateur way of operating a kitchen and I'm not sure how this place has gotten such okay reviews on service. The server did not check on us but instead stood in the corner of the rooftop bar and looked around like "the lights were on but nobody was home". Do better. read more

First of all, I want to rave about our server, Lauren. She is the best server in the area. She made our experience so fun, which is the only positive thing I have to say about the place. The food was so bland and boring and undercooked it was one of the worst food experiences I've ever had. To top it off, it cost us $140.00. Such a rip-off. My husband got his four pieces of shrimp nearly ten minutes before my dinner arrived. The owner came by to ask how things were and I replied honestly that it was awkward for me to watch him eat his dinner while I waited. He responded very angrily and loudly that we must have been told that would happen when we ordered because they had a small kitchen and could only do one meal at a time so that it would be served hot. (The cheese wasn't even melted on my husbands shrimp, so this was obviously not the case) When I said that we weren't told he sarcastically asked me if I wanted him to fire the server for not letting us know!! I was flabbergasted and embarrassed to be treated so poorly. If this is indeed the case, they should warn patrons somewhere on the menu of what to expect. Food was mediocre. Worst I have ever had. The service was bad too. The waitress never even came back to refill our drinks and I had to depend on the bus girl to clear the dishes of uneaten food from in front of us. Never pay attention to Facebook reviews. They are filled with friends and family improperly inflating scores. Food was mediocre. Large portions on some items. Overpriced. Service was cocky. Place is too small for their ambition and we felt very rushed. The whole thing feels like a cash grab on tourists. I am currently reading Anthony Bourdain's book Kitchen Confidential, and have worked in a few restaurants in my life so I started seeing the red flags as soon as I walked in. This place came recommended by a local shopkeeper so I thought try it even though there were a few sketchy reviews. I ordered unsweetened iced tea and the ahi poke wanton nachos. The tea tasty funky then I noticed a huge 1/2 inch chip missing out of rim. When the nachos came the ahi was mostly brown and there was a long hair across them. We were visiting Canandiauga for a couple days and read that "Kix on Main" came highly rated! It didn't disappoint! Megan was a warm and pleasant server. Everything looked great. We started with French onion soup. It was huge and delicious! Two wonderful salads followed with outstanding grilled shrimp and steak. Highly recommend. Outstanding. Beer and wine selection top-notch too. Bartender also welcoming and cordial. We're from Dallas, TX. Wish we could take this place home with us! 5 stars for food, service and atmosphere!! We were very dissatisfied with how they were rushing us to eat. Had 6:00 reservations with college friends. Ordered drinks and then food. then while eating our food different people kept coming over and asking can I take that plate? Can I take that plate? Can I take that plate and we were still eating. Met friend for lunch today. I arrived at our agreed upon 11:30am time, she ran late...and arrived around 11:45. We ordered 2 salads (which were good) Finished salads and paid our check by around 12:20. We sat for around 5-10 minutes finishing our coffee and ice tea. Excellent interesting food We came here for a late lunch one day and my daughter had the pork belly pizza which was superb I got a stuffed red bell pepper with a cheesecake cheesy filling with corn and the best fresh scallops and shrimp on top large shrimp IMSA and my husband got a beautiful sliced roast beef sandwich inside salad. Service staff were very friendly. The plates are priced HIGH. However as they were coming out, the portions looked good. My husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich. The fries were undercooked. The sandwich was HUGE. I ordered the Ahi Tuna entree. The description said that it came with a lime cilantro salsa and a SIDE of wasabi. There was no side of wasabi. No biggie, or so I thought. The whole tuna pyramid is sitting in a plate of melted wasabi. I told the server this was unbearable. He agreed that the wasabi is too much and he brought a side of stale wonton chips to help dilute the intensity. Randomly came across this restaurant while walking in canandaigua. Decided to try it out giving it has a rooftop area. Instantly met with great vibes the second we walked inside. Stopping here was the best decision we've ever made. Food was superb (try the monkey bread!), staff were beyond friendly and courteous, and we had an absolute amazing time. This place has wonderful tasting food and drinks. I had a PBJ old fashion which was so yummy. My friends had lavender mules which were also delightful. The pictures I took don't do justice because of lighting. Appetizers: monkey bread and Buffalo cauliflower wings had amazing flavor but portion was small and my cauliflower was kind of cold on the inside when I bit into it, but definitely one of the best Buffalo sauces I've ever had. Their burger was also one of the best I've ever had, a ton of flavor and easy to bite into. The Asian salad was amazing as well and very filling for a salad; I recommend getting some time of protein on top. Overall I would go back. My large party was excited to eat here for the first time. Well, that changed by the end and we wont be back. First off, for a place that has booster seats on hand, they are not kid friendly. They do not have a kids menu and refuse to make for smaller portions and also serve their drinks in large heavy glasses. The menu had different options but expensive for just an OK taste. They bring your meal out when its done and don't wait for the whole tables meals to be done. So everyone starts eating at different times. Seating is crowded and tables are narrow for how the food is served. We were still working on our drinks, meals, and ordering desserts when who I assume is the owner maybe the chef told us we had only minutes left and would have to leave. It was extremely rude. We felt rushed and forced out when we were still trying to eat. Never experienced that in my entire life. I was in disbelief. It was ridiculous. My kids were still hungry after leaving and I personally ended up sick from something I ate. Definitely won't be back and will not recommend to my worst enemy. read more

I ordered their Peanut Butter and Jelly old fashion drink and did not particularly like it so I let the waitress know and she took it back. .. The drink was on the bill when it came and I asked the waitress about this and she said since it wasnt made wrong [i.e. not their fault] they dont take this sort of thing off of the bill. I ordered a soda and they didn't charge me for that.... I asked her if someone didnt like a particular glasses of wine would they take that back and get it off their bill? She said no. She was very nice about it I was going to go talk to the manager on the way out but there were only 2 bartenders and waitresses visible and they were all pretty busy and I did not think this was any big deal. But as I thought about it more I wondered if someone would have sent their meal back as they didn't like it and ordered something else, how would they handle this, what if they sent it back and ordered something more expensive, would they charge for both since it wasn't made wrong? I want them to know that they lost a customer for life and my party of 4 will never return...for the ~$1 it cost them for the ingredients for that old fashioned drink they could have made someone happy and not had a bad review. I put this out there also so maybe the next person it happens to can speak to a manager or the owner, Mr Bacon, and let them know this is poor customer relations and is a policy that will cost them in the end, if they are about that sort of thing.... read more

Probably the best meal from start to finish that we've had in I can't remember how long. The poke tuna was excellent. I had the salmon, it was done perfectly. My husband had the buttermilk chicken & slaw sandwich which truly had the greatest crunch and slaw which paired really nicely. The restaurant is located in a restored 19 Century Building. It has great atmosphere and has very Nice rooftop dining. The service was excellent including the very capable Hostess who handled a busy night perfectly.(she may be the co-owner). Our server was also exceptional and he pointed out a wine special that was a great value. We ate light but enjoyed the Chicken Sandwich that included grapes and some very fresh looking greens. We went to KIX on Main on the recommendation of a friend. We have just returned to the community and took a Friday evening chance. We were not disappointed, but rather amazed! We shared a wedge salad which was huge and just perfect for two. Not over-dressed with huge gobs of the usual commercial dressing , just the right with bits of tasty cheese and bacon. The only little touch missing was house-made croutons...these were commercial. We moved on to a pair of haddock sandwiches. 12 oz fillets nestled in what appeared to be a seeded brioche bun These are easy to ruin, but ours were as close to perfect as I have ever had. Lightly battered, perfectly cooked, and not the least bit greasy!!! They were served with a mound of fresh French fried potatoes, and a side of coleslaw. Now coleslaw is usually an insipid blob of over mayo'd cabbage. This, however was perfectly dressed slaw with just a hint of horseradish...a game changer!! With more beers on tap than I can count with my fingers and toes, and a very nice, not over-priced wine list, this is a great place for dinner, or a night at the bar with a friend! We were in town to meet a friend and went for the first time last night. Food is very expensive for what it is and wasn't very good.. Actually none of us were able to finish the food because it was so poor (we didn't take leftovers either). I mentioned to the server that mine wasn't very good and he shrugged and said "sorry." Never did try to make it right. I had the meatballs....greasy and just crumbled apart. The bread was burned on bottom making it very difficult to cut. The mixed drink were not very good either - at one point the server was asked for extra olive juice for a martini, he brought lime juice.
