I've never had an experience IN MY LIFE the way I did with this chef. We expressed concern about the ahi tuna being brown (which should be understandable) and the chef came out and proceeded to argue with us. To the point where I told him he was giving me anxiety due to his argumentative behavior. He questioned us on our cooking skills and where we get our ahi tuna. It was beyond inappropriate and shows this chef has some form of personality disorder to behave that way to someone (for other examples see his responses on fb to others who complain). Get counseling sir. I would have loved to try the food because of the reviews and he could be Gordon Ramsey for all I know but he needs counseling. read more

I've had a friend come from Rochester to enjoy our unique restaurant Kix On Main. Both times the service was excellent. The food menu varies by season. Old fashioned bar stocked with everything you could possibly want. Roof top dining is available. Highly suggest you make a reservation as they are always booked. read more

Very good restaurant, only problem I see is the kitchen . The bartender told us that they serve "tapas style ", so ok your appetizers come out one by one. No, we serve entrees whenever they're ready, I'm sorry but if you have 2 or more entrees on a ticket you put them out together! I was half way through my lunch before my wife's came out ! Maybe the chef needs to work on his timing. The service again was great, hopefully since they are new they can work on the timing of the kitchen! read more

Full disclosure: have not dined at Kix. However, we would like to give Kix a try but, for the vegetarian in our group, who truly does enjoy culinary variety, the menu of iceberg lettuce, cauliflower wings and the 'beyond' burger, etc, etc, does not lend itself to an adventure in dining. Can Kix come up with something innovative from their kitchen that would appeal to the appetite of both a carnivore and non-carnivore that is unique to Kix? And, please, do not send the server to tell us the kitchen can prepare anything vegetarian (not vegan, another story) that we would like. We are dining at YOUR restaurant, looking at YOUR menu, ordering something that I can't make at home. Grilled veggies? Give me a break. Eggplant parm? Phhht. Zucchini/mushroom whatever? WOW! We had been here before and it was ok. After this latest experience I will never go back. We were on top. When we arrived, wasn't raining but as some of our food came out it started...becoming increasingly harder and then pouring. Still waiting for the 4th entree...rain drops from roof leaks splashing now on the table, into food and drinks. One entree arrived with the kitchen order slip under the fish sandwich!!! Still waiting for 4th entree...cajun chicken...must have gone to Louisiana for it because it came out 25 minutes AFTER the others...two of us were finished with our meal. (Much more difficult to have dinners all ready at the same time so I understand why they do that). Rain continues to drip steadily...on us and on the neighboring empty table. Asked it we would like to move downstairs....REALLY? Pick up our food and change to the first floor in the middle of dinner? No inconvenience there. Waitress failed to mention that the fish sandwich came with coleslaw, so our out of town guest ordered coleslaw for her side. Two coleslaws!! Great! Asked to speak with the manager...did get the entree served with paper taken off the bill. However, didn't appreciate managers attitude. Told us we were fortunate the owner wasn't there, as we had asked for him, because he would "be more direct." What does that mean?? Said this was an unusually hard rain.....where's he been all summer? That's all we've had!!! He KNEW the roof leaked...why seat guests there at all when rain is forecasted? Wonder what the Board of Health would say about the toxins and bird feces carried in the roof water onto our food and drinks?? If/when we contract ecoli we'll then be speaking to the owner. Had lunch today upstairs on the deck. First and foremost, the food was ridiculously good. Wife had Chilean Sea Bass that was simply incredible. A side of purple scalloped potatoes (I think) that were amazing and even the pepped we garnish was delicious. I had my eyes in the burger that got great reviews but I went with an appetizer special for my meal. 3 huge meatballs, served on top of Amazing Grains salt bread, made into garlic bread with a generous portion of ricotta and just enough Marinara sauce. Could only finish 1 & 1/2. Chef/ Owner served mine and our waitress was awesome. Staff was great including Chef's dad who was the maitre d' and our historian of the businesses at that location. Hidden gem, everything looks and smelled great and portions are very good. Prices are good and very reasonable for the quality. read more

Just left the restaurant. Ordered the Shrimp Alexander. First few bites were chewy and thought the bacon was fatty. Once looked more closely the shrimp was completely raw and the outside of the shrimp was bluish/black like it is before being cooked. No pink at all. Had to wait 5 minutes to get our wait staff's attention. She finally came over and just said ok and started to walk away. At that point eating raw seafood turned me off from eating anything. Told her I was set and did not want the shrimp. She only apologized when brought the bill over and said she took it off the bill. Not once did she ask if I wanted anything else. read more

They have a good variety, great taste and generous portions. This is a great example of doing some more classic or typically offered items but in a really well done way with great flavor. The cauliflower wings were really popular. The zucchini and mushroom sandwich was surprisingly robust and flavorful, sometimes the vegetarian options at restaurants can be a bit bland. Service was great and fast, although the host who sat us got really close to us when he greeted us, one of us had to physically pull back to not have him in her face. We stopped in for a late dinner - the place was jammed and we had no reservation but the owners and staff were super accommodating and went above and beyond to squeeze us in. Our food was really tasty (turkey club, blackened salmon and cauliflower wings) with generous portions and the ingredients were super fresh. But on top of that, the owners and staff made a special effort to hunt me down and let me know I had forgotten my wallet! We couldn't have asked for better service. been here a few times and always have a great experience! went in on valentine's day and had the best experience i've ever had at any restaurant. sat on the rooftop and had this amazing man as our waiter. words cannot describe how awesome this guy was who took care of us. he constantly checked in on us and would start conversation. he was so friendly and funny with us. everyone there is always so nice but he really stood out. i didn't catch his name but he was worth tipping the 50% that we gave him. please pass this review along to him! i hope whenever we go back we have him everytime. thank you kix on main for always providing amazing food and amazing service read more

I never write bad reviews, or reviews at all, and I rarely send food back..but I'm extremely disappointed in this experience. Looked like a hoppin place and some aspects were okay. The ahi tuna nachos were tasty, but the wonton chips were either too large or too twisted to really eat them easily. Had a tasty buttermilk sandwich also. But the fries totally sucked. Then we got the sea bass special. The fish itself was tasty but the sauce was kind of weird. The real kicker was the side of potatoes that were comepltely undercooked. We sent them back after waiting a long while for the waitress to even check in on us and she came back and said "we all tried them"...which given a global pandemic is pretty weird..and proceeded to tell us the difference between cheese and potatoes, saying the potatoes were soft which was absolutely not the case. We know the difference between cheese and potatoes and are floored by the blatant lack of responsibility for serving something poorly and trying to make it our fault. The waitress kept referring to the chef as "He" from the beginning of our dining experience so it seems pretty clear we've got an egotistical chef issue going on. Everyone makes mistakes and it's okay to take responsibility. We weren't being difficult nor rude about the experience. We were given a two top on the rooftop. We were seated in the corner where there was some sort of air purifier or heater blowing directly in my face. My husband kindly switched spots with me. Then we were served our water. I take one sip and pull glass out of my mouth- the glass was cracked and chipped off with my first sip. The waitress took the glass and the chunk of glass that was in my mouth. A few mins later another lady came over to ask if I was ok. I said yes, I'm fine and she asked me to describe what happened and where the glass was. She vaguely apologized and walked away. I was still trying to enjoy our night out so I quickly got over the situation and moved on. The wedge salad was good. The cloths-line bacon was cool and very good. I couldn't decide between two sandwiches so the waitress told me "get the buttermilk chicken & slaw sandwich. It's the best one on the menu" so I do. It arrived and I was impressed with how large it was until I took a bit and there was no chicken. I was able to cut half the giant sandwich away without touching the chicken. It was basically a bad salad on bread. Wendy's puts more chicken on their sandwiches. The menu describes the toppings as "sweet and spicy slaw" well it wasn't either of those things. The whole thing tasted like horseradish (which was not described in the description) and was certainly not spicy by any means. The French fries were good. At the end of the meal I stood up and my butt and back were sore from the horribly uncomfortable chairs. I didn't ask for anything for the glass incident however, I have been in customer service for over a decade and certainly would have offered SOMETHING if the roles were reversed. I was even super nice about it. Guess next time I should be louder- but it won't be at Kix on Main because I will never pay that much for good fries again. Average at best. Interesting take on "Tapas" style restaurant as they explain thoroughly when you sit down. I am not sure they know what it means, rather than a cover for small kitchen and can't plan tickets to come out properly. I watched my wife eat her meal for 10 minutes before I got mine. Portions are larger then tapas style. My side vegetable, also due to food allergy, that I upgraded to, came out before my wife's food. We complained about timing and basically said "sorry - we are tapas style." Might want to look that up. Need to work out some kinks. read more

Last night was our second visit to Kix on Main, we loved it so much the first time, we excitedly brought friends for a special occasion. There's a lot to like about this restaurant; the cool decor, creative menu, they even have prosecco on tap! But sadly we won't be returning. When our server asked if everything was "delicious" my friend said yes, but the steaks we ordered medium rare were really cooked to medium well. We didn't send them back, we just pointed it out. She said she'd tell the chef then turned and walked away. The chef (owner?) then came to our table. He looked at the steak, told us it was perfect (it really wasn't) said to cut it in half so he could see the center and again insisted it was perfect and walked away. I've never been treated so rudely in a restaurant; his tone actually bordered on aggressive. I'm really disappointed because the place has a lot of potential but with a $200 tab and a $40 dollar tip I expect better treatment than that. read more

Decent food. "Chef" is a bit too self important! His eye is certainly not on the customer. I'm not sure where he thinks he is working. Was unwilling to serve my chicken french dish in any other way than swimming in butter. I didn't mind his cooking it that way. However, it was too much to ask to put the chicken on the plate without the butter sauce all around it (evidently, he did not care about my health concerns). Waitress was actually afraid to even ask him to do that! I ordered the dish anyway, got a second plate, and did it myself. Really?? It was insulting. I have eaten at some of the finest restaurants in the world. This is not one. This is a mediocre bar/restaurant in Canandaiga, NY. I will not be back. read more

Chef Bacon and his kitchen are at the top of their game. The service team equally so. Your expectation in this unassuming pub is to find solid bar food , but Chef delivers so much more. Scallops over seaweed, chicken parm , that that finds the sweet seam between thick and thin, a sharp crispiness from their unique batter served with a playful serving of red & white sauces ( marinara and Alfredo) , that sing in perfect harmony and did not leave me blue. Heaping, locally sourced salads with tender juicy steak, cauliflower bites that "taste like chicken" with enough fire to leave you wanting a dinner sized serving of this appetizer. Wonton tuna poke nachos with pickled onions, wasabi peas and great texture and taste. A $20 hamburger, hand formed and thick, cooked with care to perfection and a mound of fries that is worth more than that price. The raspberry lemon cupcakes for dessert were light, large and found that delicate balance of those competing flavors that is illuminating and tasty. Good selection of gluten free options,' The cocktails are well made and fresh, the staff is well trained, well mannered , attentive and kind. This is a winner, don't miss it. read more

First time at this restaurant (tapas style), and it was clean, bright and "airy". They leave the front window open! It's similar to eating outside, street noise, bugs, and such. The server (Elizabeth, from her name tag) behind the bar, never introduced herself or was very friendly. It was like being waited on by someone who didn't want to be there. Never given silverware, even 3 minutes after food arrived! Another server graded some forks for us..... Other than the inconsistent service, was a nice place to visit at least once, to see what is was like, or more important NOT like. Maybe the lake tourist will enjoy this tapas newbie. read more

I really wanted to like the restaurant. I had read the reviews and the menu looked good. Went there for lunch with 2 companions. Upon entering we remarked that the restaurant was nicely decorated. Unfortunately it went down hill from there..way down hill. I love ahi tuna. I order it frequently when dining out. I have eaten it in many different restaurants from fine dining in New York to fresh fish "shacks" in the Carolinas. I also prepare it myself. We ordered our drinks and the poke tuna wonton nachos appetizer to start. The appetizer arrived within 5 minutes. We had no plates at the table. Eventually a young man came over 7and asked if we wanted plates. The tuna looked strange. It was cut in strips that were not consistent or uniform in size or color. We were a little shocked at the appearance, but I volunteered to taste first. I had to spit it out in my napkin. It had the consistency of a gummy worm soaked in soy sauce for several hours. It was literally slimey. When the waitress returned we asked to send it back. She asked why and I said I didn't care for the taste or consistency. She was reluctant to return it to the kitchen and said," It's poke" I said we know, but we don't want it. In a few minutes the chef or owner came to our table (we assume that as he didn't introduce himself). He wanted to know why we didn't like it. I told him my concerns about it. He then said, "it's poke" as if that magically makes it taste better. He said everyone raves about this dish. I said we didn't care for it and would like to send it back. I told him I had eaten ahi tuna many times and prepare it myself. Then demanded to know where I purchased the tuna I cooked (an odd question) I told him and he then demanded to know what color it was. By this time we could tell he was quite angry. He was looming over the table in an intimidating way saying " purple, purple is the best kind, it's very expensive" At that point one of my tablemates asked him to stop because his demeanor was making her anxious. He did not stop and continued to tell us that the fish was good. I finally asked him if he was trying to make us feel guilty for sending it back. He then said there's nothing wrong with it and stormed away. I know this may sounds crazy and indeed it felt crazy. After he left we sat at the table in shock, not knowing if we should leave. We certainly didn't want to eat there after that exchange. We decided to go and asked our waitress for our check. She brought it and my daughter paid for our drinks plus a 20% tip for our waitress. In a few minutes she brought the check back saying our meal was comped. We went on to have a lovely meal at another Canandaigua restaurant. But our main topic of conversation was how this chef/owner attempted to intimidate us and implied that our unsafiticated palate couldn't appreciate his food. If the chef felt compelled to visit our table he should have simply said, I'm sorry you don't like it, can I get you something else? Being questioned and berated by a chef is a bit unnerving and bizarre. We ordered the Ahi Tuna Nachos and they tasted awful. I work in a restaurant in Rochester and normally never send things back, but both my boyfriend and I agreed that we couldn't stomach the nachos because something about them was sour and fishy. The tuna was grey in color and seemed to have turned so we let the server know. I tried to be as nice as possible and even apologized myself, but the server was clearly put off and only responded by saying "I'll ask the chef." She also tried to say that it was that color because it's "poke" (which she pronounced wrong), so I told her that I was aware - I've eaten tuna a lot over the years and it's never tasted like this. The "Ahi Noshos" at Nosh in Rochester is one of my favorite dishes in the city and is almost identical to the ingredients in this dish and has never tasted like this. I frequent Poke Sushi in the South Wedge of Rochester (amazing!) and even eat tuna tartare at the restaurant where I work frequently. Never have I had tuna that tasted like this. A few minutes later the chef (I assume) came up and said he just tasted the tuna and it's "fresh as can be." He was super rude and again I just apologized because I've experienced when guests are rude about sending things back and never want to be that person. The chef left and both my boyfriend and I felt super uncomfortable, like we had been scolded. What was the point of him coming up to tell us we were wrong? Even if the tuna hadn't gone bad, something about the dish tasted fishy and sour and was not enjoyable, so why not just apologize (or just say okay) and move on? Instead they were rude to us and made us feel unwelcome. Now they've lost two guests, the sales of whatever we were going to get for dinner last night, and any future patronage of myself/people we know. It's just bad business practice. We ended up asking for the check and leaving. Ill never go back unfortunately. It's sad because on previous visits I did enjoy the food, but I won't support a business that treats people so poorly. read more
