I ate brunch at Klobys yesterday. Honestly I was disappointed at the quality of the food. I had been frequenting this joint for many years since moving to Howard county more than 25 years ago. I had an issue with the last time I ordered from there which was a little over a year ago. I'm not sure if it's new management or my taste buds have changed. I hope they will turn around sometimes soon and once again serve top notch meals. The customer service was 50/50, waiters were very busy. Shoutout to our local community heroes! Today our Kloby's ambassador was Ms Paula. She was welcoming, attentive, knowledgeable, and personable. It has been years since I've been here. We just moved back from Texas and we needed a BBQ fix. I read great reviews about the wet brisket! I am do picky and it was everything that I wanted! Pretty nice pink smoke line and very tender! We ordered many things to sample: audacious jalapeño pork balls, crispy corn fritters, and indulgent pork belly deviled eggs! We were only supposed to sample and take these home, but we ate almost all of it! I'll call this our BBQ brunch since it was our first meal of our day! It paired well with a bacon Bloody Mary, blanton's bourbon, and a Smokey old fashion! The endless crisp clean water was a blessing for a refreshing palate cleanser. The meal comprised of the chili entree which was served with a scoop of delicious mashed red potato ! We also had the rib combo both beef and pork. Tender smoked meats the came off the bone easily. We loved sampling all the house BBQ sauces! All delicious! I mixed the Carolina and the honey habanero! Extra meats for our sample: spicy sausage, wet brisket, and pork belly! All fantastic. The sausage was a bit more fennel tasting than my person taste, but I'm just sensitive to certain herbs and spices. Sides of Mac and cheese, collard greens, corn bread, and beans. So we had a lot to take home! And as memory serves me, I had a love for there bread pudding! So that went home with us to warm up and serve with their awesome sauce! Located in a busy strip mall near JHU/APL with several other eateries, Kloby's has a lot going for it. They have a nice selection of local and regional brews and a full bar. Two large seating areas and an adjoining ice cream parlor. Our server was delightful and funny. The service was prompt. I ordered two meats (lean brisket and pulled pork) plus sides (collards and beans) and the plate came with corn bread. The meats were tender and well prepared but not much warmer than room temp. The beans were good as was the cornbread. Collards were bitter and lacked any porky goodness that I love in good greens. My dining partner was adventurous enough to order the Jarbeque, which is a mason jar layered with beans, slaw and smoked meats. He thoroughly enjoyed it and there was a lot packed into that jar. The convenience of the location to our hotel was a bonus. I'll return to try it again next time I'm in the area. read more

Okay who serves cold cornbread???? Cornbread is meant to be served in a hot cast iron skillet. The look from the waitress when we asked for the cornbread to be warmed up and served with butter, was as if we were crazy. The brisket and sausage were pretty good, chicken needed seasoning, the beans (which were served in the cutest lil skillet) were average and the potato salad provided a different perspective. A great start to howard county restaurant week. I have been into restaurant week for years but this was my first in Maryland. It is set up differently but the overall concept was the same. Finding the right door to go into was a little confusing, everything else is labeled besides the dine in seating. We were seated really quickly and our server came out fast. The service was all around wonderful. She was so welcoming and the food came out quicker than anything I have ever experienced. We started off with one of each of the appetizers. Plus the pork ribs. The pork balls were interesting, I didn't know what to expect and I wasn't disappointed but the bbq sauce overtook the entire dish and the inside of the very crispy balls was like mushy kind of. Again I wasn't disappointed just thought it was interesting. The pork belly deviled eggs were good, they were very heavy on the mustard but I thought it complimented the pork belly pretty well. For entrees we ordered the southern catfish platter and the steak frites. The steak was delicious, they cooked it like medium / medium well, I guess by default because they didn't ask how we liked our steak. The catfish platter was HUGE and the tartar sauce was Soo amazing but the fish fell short because it wasn't cooked enough for how thick the filets were. I warmed it up the next day in my air fryer and it was 10x better just cooking a little more. I can sadly say the french fries might have been my favorite part because they made the kind i really love and I'm like a french fry fein lol. For dessert I had the banana pudding, I loved it and I want more! They had a nice selection of ice cream to choose from too! Overall, I'm glad we choose to come here for restaurant week. A great spot for BBQ. It's part of a little strip mall near Maple Lawn. I enjoyed their signature dish, Jar-b-que. It's a fun take on bbq with a parfait like presentation. Beats, beans and cole slaw are stacked up in this mason jar with a bacon/pork belly garnish. It's delicious and filling for sure! They have sauces you can add to your meal for extra flavor. We had the pleasure of grabbing food from Kloby's at Beer, Bourbon, BBQ at Timonium Fairgrounds. I was instantly drawn to having the Jar B Que. I mean, c'mon, it's so insta worthy! This place is amazing. The staff is really friendly and the food is outstanding. I love the bbq wings, they are large and can tell they've been smoked. Recently had their steak sandwich which is probably the best one I've had in a very long time. The tables are spread out for six foot rule and everyone is wearing a mask. A decent bbq pit with loads of seating, TVs with a plethora of sports channels, and friendly staff. The inside does not match the outside-in a good way. They have a very expansive bar menu-ranging in prices-with liquors, mixed drinks, beer, and wine selections. Not to mention the Milkshake list. As for the menu, everything sounds delicious. Reasonably priced-loads of options. I chose the honey habanero wings, side of spicy slaw-hubbie got the pick 2 platter with brussel sprouts and sweet potato. The wings needed more sauce, but were super juicy. They are whole wings-in a set of 5 (so really 10wings). No sides, so I got the slaw which was too watery and tiny. The meat platter was good-cornbread was clearly thawed from a freezer-brussel sprouts were yummy-sweet potatos needed seasoning. We also got the bread pudding sampler. Order a Delirium Noel 8oz beer. The bartender delivers a green drink in the glass. I taste it and it was terrible. I asked the bartender if they poured the wrong drink. The bartender states the keg was empty. However the guy served me some solution used by the restaurant to clean out the keg lines before the keg is switched out. I complained to the owner who stated the guy made a mistake. Up to this point I was a longtime client of Kolby's. I will never set foot in that dive again. Spent over $100 for food and drinks. Did not leave a tip. Under new management for the past two year period. Please bring back the Kolby fam because the new owner is an idiot. Hire competent staff and maybe I will come again. The service was slow but the server's personality made up for it. He was very helpful with the beer menu and also for my SIL who has a ton of food allergies. The fries were cold and the ribs were so so. The greens had too many large stems that weren't edible because too fibrous. The cornbread was absolutely delicious. Pretty good eatery! I only order the beef ribs which are huge and not bad. Kloby's currently offers outdoor dining, limited indoor dining, and curbside pickup. There's a small ice cream parlor in the order pickup area. I also had the catfish bites appetizer which I did not care for. The aftertaste was akin to dishwater actually. My daughter agreed. So ya might want to skip that dish and go for the beef ribs because they were pretty good! I wish everything wasn't smoked. Would prefer some good ol' fashioned 'simply- grilled' beef ribs. What a mistake it was to go to Kloby's on Father's day - we called 45 minutes in advance to book a table for 4 just to hear that no reservations were take and they have a plenty of table to sit us. That was not a case - when we arrived, we were asked to wait 15 minutes despite 6-8 tables being available. But "15 minutes" became 35 and when we asked about it, the answer was "we need to wipe the table before sitting you down" - wipe clean and un-used tables? Not enough servers? On Father's day, Karl? The order was taken fast, but the wait was long again - 25 minutes for standard menu items. Two tables near us were served faster than us even their orders were taken well after ours. And the final straw was when my wifer asked for a coctail menu and was ready to order, but the waitress never showed up to inquire about the order. Their service is incredible, the woman who helped me over the phone and brought out my curbside order was extremely nice, detail oriented and enthusiastic. Their bbq entrees are good - we got Nashville hot chicken and loved the flavors. They also have Growler specials which are a steallllll. $10 growlers to go included in the curbside pickup. Above all else, this locally owned place is doing all they can to be safe and protective- all their employees were wearing PPE and they have curbside option which is legit. Stopped by for lunch between showing houses to clients. Place was very clean and the few staff that I encountered were extremely friendly. Restaurant was "missing" tables and bar stools as they were complying with COVID capacity rules. MY SERVER WAS AWESOME!!!! I'm sorry I didn't get her name. She was working the bar, running her own food, refilling drinks and bussing her own tables and she never missed a beat. My drink was constantly filled. My food was hot and fresh and she was attentive to everyone in the restaurant. Started with the smoked wings with buffalo sauce based on the recommendation of my server. The wings are smoked and then finished on the grill and then lightly sauced. The wings looked like they were from a condor. They were massive and delicious. The chicken was moist and cooked perfectly. Had the chef's smokehouse salad. Mixed greens topped with "rolls" of smoked meats. The meats were chilled and there was plenty on top of the salad. The greens were crisp and fresh. Perfect meal to have after an order of their giant wings. Highly recommend this spot. I will definitely be back to try some of their brisket and ribs. read more

So I've been going to Klobys Smokehouse ever since it was just a carry out and I'll tell you it juSt keeps getting better and better. The food is amazing and so delicious, I got the two plate with beef brisket wet, and pulled pork with Mac and cheese and coleslaw, So good and with the cornbread that taste like cake almost. Very delicious. I also had a half rack of Pork Ribs, BEST RIBS!!! Fall of the bone and you don't even need to add sauce because the rub is something special. I'm so sad to write this review because this was my favorite barbecue restaurant. I love their old and dirty wings and their pork ribs. Their service was always good and my husband loves the ice cream nextdoor. Today was a special day because my mom is visiting us from Mexico and we took her there for dinner. Everything was going perfect as usual. The food was great, the chat, the service... we were having a great time but while we were waiting for the check little cockroach start running on our table!!!... finally we were able to kill the damn thing with the bottle of barbeque sauce. Thank God my mom was a good sport and she and my friend started singing "la cucaracha" and laughed about it but I don't think this is anything to laugh about. We have always LOVED Klobys and just had them cater our sons wedding. Super flexible, lots of options at our tasting, reasonably priced. To save us money, they provided the bartender to serve the alcohol and drinks we provided. Michele was very responsive throughout the process, did a site visit the month before, and ran through all the details. The food was DELISH. Terrible experience. Ordered takeout. Said it would be ready in 35 minutes. Got an email after 15 minutes that our order was ready, which was good but I wasn't ready to pick it up. It took me 10 minutes to arrive. When I arrived the takeout cashier on the phone taking an order. No one acknowledged my arrival. The cashier continued to take the phone order for 10 minutes, while my food sat on the shelf. All I needed was to pickup up my food. Others could have handed me my order, but they didn't bother. When the cashier got off the phone he handed me my order and sarcastically asked me if everything was OK. I told him I didn't appreciate waiting 10 minutes for my order, while it was getting cold. Then he proceeded to exclaim he was in the phone and I had to wait. He started yelling so I told him it was ridiculous for me to wait 10 minutes while my order was just sitting there and he could have easily handed it to me or acknowledge my presence. I've been to Kloby's several times over the past few years. If the food wasn't consistent, I wouldn't be a fan. Before I became a non-beef and non-pork eater, the brisket, pork and ribs were all juicy and tender. Whatever I ordered would hit the spot. Most recently, I visited during lunch with a coworker. I ordered the catfish poboy that came with French fries. I wanted some hushpuppies, but I didn't see them on the menu. My poboy was "dressed" with lettuce, tomato and a slaw. The piece of catfish was a nice size and it was fried perfectly. It had a crispiness to it that I loved. The actual dressing and toppings on the bread could've been better. I saw no need for lettuce and slaw. It was a bit much. I ended up taking some of that lettuce off. I love sloppy sandwiches, especially sloppy poboys, but I didn't care for this to be too sloppy. I was more focused on keeping my poboy together rather than eating it. The fries that accompanied my poboy were okay. There was nothing special that set them apart from any other fries that I've had. Overall, my meal was tasty and filling. I am considering going back to Kloby's to get that same catfish poboy sometime soon. Very odd entrance. We had to literally walked in the restaurant to flag the hostess down. The service was horrible. We asked for straws we never got any straws. He wasn't attentive. Just seemed annoyed at our table. I asked a question and just gave me a snappy answer. He did however checked up on us twice. Food was not good. I had the pulled pork it was very fatty. There was no smoky flavor in the meat whatsoever. The hush puppy was very dry. The only thing edible was my bacon brussel sprouts and the corn bread. No variety of bbq sauce only 2 types of bbq sauce one original and one "Carolina style". If yall want to the difference "carolina style" is vinegar base. What bbq place has only 2 types of sauces? I would first like to state that I am a firm believer that Maryland is basically a barren wasteland for good bbq. Then my friends and I go to this place and this brings me hope. Honestly, the location to me is really random, but I am so glad to have eaten here. What first got me is they do beef ribs! No one freaken does beef ribs in Maryland. They weren't as meaty as I was used to, but still good. All the sides were also on point. The Mac and cheese actually had balance and didn't make me want to clog my artistes. Collards were also great. Had a bite of my friends turkey and brisket, superb. The worst part of bbq is eating dry meat and this place takes the time and effort to make sure their meet isn't dry. I wish I had more good things to say about this business. The best I can say is that the service was great, fast, and the people who work there were extremely polite. The food? I had the baby back ribs and the Bacon Jar-B-Que. I ordered both, in case one was bad. The Baby back ribs were like flavorless rubber. They came with sauces on the side, so that helped get the rubber rib meat down. I'm guessing they were just overcooked. I wouldn't say the meat was fall off the bone. Rather, as I was pulling the bones to get the meat to separate, the bones would come off and the meat would stay stuck together, as if they were rubber. I could only manage to eat 3 of the ribs. I'm grateful I only got a half-rack. The Jar-B-Que was interesting. The best way I could describe it is if I had a pork meat plate platter with coleslaw and sweet BBQ baked beans on a plate, and someone wanted the plate back... then they slid all the food on the plate into a Mug and this is what would be the result. I would have taken a picture, but it wasn't appetizing to look at. If anyone is thinking of getting the Jar-B-Que anyways, I'd advise getting the pickle and the beans in a separate container. They over power the rest of the tastes. I'd actually consider ordering this again, but with all the sides separately. I'm not a huge baked beans fan, but the baked beans were surprisingly tasty when eaten by themselves. They are just bad when forced with everything else. Somehow the sweetness disappeared and were replaced by a really cheap baked bean flavor. Bacon became baked Bean flavored bacon. Pulled pork became baked bean flavored pulled pork. Pork belly became baked bean flavored pork belly. It was all smooshed together so there was no escaping it. Plus it was the only taste for everything except the pulled pork at the bottom. So, interesting concept, bad execution, but I may give it another go at a much later time, with everything in the Jar-B-Que in separate containers/plates. read more

Got off work early and arrived after 1:30PM for a late lunch. The lunch crowd was gone with three or four tables with customers. I ordered the 1/2 rack ribs with Balsamic Brussel Sprouts and the brisket BBQ Beans. I also ordered a Magner's Irish 'Cider'. The waitress asked if I wanted the spicy or mild BBQ sauce? I chose the mild. The Irish 'Cider' arrived and I was asked if I wanted a glass of water. I declined the water and tried the Irish 'Cider' ... not impressed. It was warm and to my palate, was flat. There was a faint hint of cherry so it's possible this Irish 'Cider' is aged in used cherry barrels. This paragraph had nothing to do with Kloby's, other than the temperature; just my input on the Irish 'Cider'. After about 13-mins and food was on the table. The ribs on the left-side of the plate totally covered with sauce. I've never seen ribs served where you could not see the ribs because of the sauce. Pit masters love to show off their meat, not cover it with sauce. There was an individual portion cup for the BBQ beans and Brussel Sprouts. I went to pull off the first rib and it didn't budge ... I tugged, I pulled, and then engaged the help of a fork to finally dislodge the rib. The meat was cold. Not cold, cold like being in a fridge, but cold like it had been sitting out. Not a spark of warmth to it. The Balsamic Brussel Sprouts were well cooked, barely warm, and tasted like Brussel Sprouts should. I got no hint of a Balsamic taste. Scale of 1 to 5 and I'd give these a 3 as they were tender. But was disappointed as I was expecting a sharp flavor profile of Balsamic, as advertised. Back to the ribs ... Most ribs have a top layer of meat across the bones, I went to lift this up and it was like rubber. Sticking the fork in between the next row of ribs and the fork would not poke through, Again, the meat was like rubber. Using a knife I finally got the ribs separated and again the meat was cold, tough, rubbery, and all I tasted was the mild BBQ sauce which, personally, I didn't like. No soul to it and I would say it is store bought mass-produced sauce. The waitress stopped by and asked how the ribs were? I said, 'well, not good and they are..." She instantly said, "their tough aren't they!" She took the words right out of my mouth and to me it was as if she KNEW the ribs were not good... I then ordered the two-meat platter ... Texas brisket and smoked, spicy sausage. BBQ beans ... not bad and there was a hint of chili spice in them, but were not spicy. The beans were well cooked and had small chunks of briskets. Personally, I'm not a fan of these beans as I like a bit more of a BBQ flavor. I'd give the beans a 3 to 3.75 score. About 6-mins later the new meat platter arrived. The brisket looked nice and the sausage was a full link which had been grilled. Cutting into the brisket I could tell it was tender ... but ... it was cold. Flavor wise it was a hit but, just like the ribs, it was cold ... how can someone serve cold food? The sausage was tasty, grilled nicely, and had a slight hint of heat ... but again, the meat was ... guess? Cold! This trip, especially the ribs, was a total disappointment! read more

2 of us went for dinner again and ordered the French Dip and the sausage/pork bbq wrap. Both come with hand cut fries. The fries were spot on as usual. The French Dip was good. Bread very fresh & the meat/cheese was delish. The sausage/pork wrap not very good. The sausage are in links making it harder to hold the wrap together and take a small bite. The pork was mostly the burned/bark portion of the shoulder and was as tough as shoe leather that has no business being in a wrap. After a few bites the whole wrap was a total shredded mess. Our server was very slow and inattentive. Took forever to get fresh beers & ketchup for our fries. Speaking of ketchup...she brought us a small container with a to-go cap. WTH? YUCK! I used to like this place but it really has gone downhill in the past two or three years. Tonight the brisket tasted funny. The cole slaw tasted funny. Only thing edible was the mashed potatoes (looked old tho) and the baked beans (very good). WASTE of $50! Not only that but I thought I was tipping 10 percent on carryout and I was charged 15%!
