The burgers were very delicious and flavorful and loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, secret sauce and cheese. The fries was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. This place has unfortunately gone down hill. We called our order in 10 minutes before we arrived and they weren't busy but hadn't started our order yet. It was also odd that the guy in the front said he didn't have our order and had us repeat it until finally a guy in back said he had it...just defeated the purpose of calling it in really. We took it from the restaurant to our house a mile and a half up the road and the buns were dry and the meal was cold within minutes. It was like they slapped a warm burger on a cold dry bun with cold toppings and called it a day. The burger wasn't very flavorful either even though I asked for extra knockout sauce. My son only ate one burger and it filled him right up, that is what I call a knockout! A double burger with bacon and cheese and a giant order of fries did the trick. His burger arrived on a whole wheat bun and was stuffed with many layers of all the food he loves and can not get at home. The burger was pimped out, they served it cut in half to help him navigate that big portion of beef and pork. I ordered some fries and chowed down, they were thin and crispy, served piping hot. I slathered those babies with ketchup and good old yellow mustard, the kind that produces mustard farts. I am weird that way, ketchup alone does not "cut the mustard". This small restaurant, located in a heavy tourist area in Carlsbad has a thin menu and I am not talking calories. It pretty much involves burgers and fries. Knockout Burger takes a dive at the opening bell. We walk up at a quarter to closing to find 3 people sitting on a bench out front with faces buried in burgers while a hungry happy pit bull is hopeful. We hook the left into the front door to find a scraggly looking hippy-esque kid running around the dining area feverishly straightening up. Behind the counter and at the grill is his unkempt partner face down on his smart phone texting away trying to find out where the party is or telling someone he'll be there shortly.... Or maybe I've pegged him wrong and he's checking he's stock portfolio. He looks up as if we snuck in specifically to startle him ( which we did ) and gave us a blank stare and finally said " I just turned everything off. We're closed. If you really want something I can fire it up but it'll be like 20 minutes before its ready again" I just look at him and reply "Really?" to which I get back "yep" Fearing the dreaded "Loogie Burger" we decline his generous offer and leave the place deciding to never return. A boxing themed burger joint down the street from Tamarack Surf Beach. When you first see the menu, it looks pretty simple.. but after I had already ordered my food, I noticed a dry erase board with a list of a bunch of specialty burgers on it. I'll probably try one of those next time. The cheeseburger I ordered was.. DELICIOUS!! I suggest the middleweight burger if you want just a regular sized burger... the featherweights are about the size of a white castle burger or slider. Had lunch here today. I got to say I liked it. Kind of like In N Out style with the simple menu. I wonder if they can animalize my order next time? Pros -Good burger, it hit the spot. Everything tasted fresh, and the only knock on it was that the bun was "out of the bag". If it would have been heated up, or better yet put on the grill for a couple of seconds the burger would have been twice as better. -Mini burgers were really good, my girlfriend got this and she liked them. I could tons of these. Seriously. -Fries were crunchy and had a mild seasoning, which I liked. If you don't like salt much then ask for them without the seasoning. Cons -Place was kind of small, as it filled up really quick after I had gotten there. Just grab it to go and have lunch on the beach if it is too packed. We almost missed this place as Knockout Pizza is just a few doors down but I'm SO glad we didn't. This place has really good burgers and fries. The ladies that run it are extremely patient as you make your choice(s) of burgers. Believe me, it may take you some time as they all sound amazing! We went with the BBQ Bacon and Pineapple Teriyaki. They were super tasty! The Pineapple Teriyaki is a bit messy but that only made it more fun (sorry, Californians, funner isn't a word) to eat. ;) Knockout Burger was quick, convenient and great tasting! I give this place 2 stars because I have been here MANY times throughout my life (carlsbad local) and the food is always super good! The french fry seasoning is the best! However, I went yesterday and the two guys working there were NOT Covid-19 safe. One guy was not wearing a face covering at all. The second guy (the one cooking the food) was wearing a bandana but he only pulled it up occasionally. He cooked our entire order without a face covering and then used his dirty BARE hands to put our french fries in the little paper fry bag. I know how dirty his hands were because I saw black under all his fingernails and had not washed his hands after processing payments at the register. The outside tables were cleaned *occasionally* but not cleaned between every guest who sat there. My friend and I still ate the food because we were starving and these guys didn't look sick, but I won't be coming back here until the pandemic is over. After reading other reviews it seems like this has been an issue for months...surprised that they haven't been reported to the health dept yet. Even without a pandemic, not washing your hands after handling money and then bare-handed grabbing hamburger buns is nasty and I'm pretty sure against food handling laws. read more

I placed a takeout order (during COVID) and was looking forward to eating here. However, I was appalled by what I saw as I was waiting for my order. The server was not wearing a mask or gloves. I watched him accept cash from a customer, hand her a cup, refill the French fries, and pick up a hamburger bun -- all without washing his hands, all without gloves. They also ran out of mushrooms all together and completely left tomato off all the burgers for whatever reason. Worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. The last three times I've been here my order has been wrong in some way or another. I order take out only to wait 20 minutes before driving to the store and another 20 minutes in the store after the time they said it would be ready. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Absolutely delicious! Came across this little hole on the wall while visiting Carlsbad for the 1st time. I was surprised to see how inexpensive the menu items were but best of all their burgers were amazing!! I haven't had a burger that good in a long time, not to mention the fries. Unbelievably awful. We ordered five combos. Ended up with six combos we paid for because they lady taking the orders got it wrong. Then it took FOREVER to get our food. Like at least 30 minutes. It wasn't very busy. Open tables. It was like 3:00pm on a Wednesday. The burgers were terrible. So burnt. Burnt buns. Burnt bacon. Like black. Burnt patties. I got a bunch of toppings and all I could taste was char. And the fries were cold and hardly seasoned at all. All we could do was laugh afterward because it was literally so terrible. They even tore like 1/4 off my top bun because it was so burnt. I rarely leave bad reviews but this was a $60 waste of money and a meal. So so disappointing. Went there last night and was not impressed. Firat, I always pass this place and I always notice two things: a line and a help wanted sign. The cook burned and our food and then quit, walked away, left only one other employee to help. After about a 35-40 min wait, we received our food: 3 burgers, grilled cheese and fries. The meat was dry, the grilled cheese barely had cheese (maybe one slice?), and the fries were EXTREMELY salty. Other people that ordered after us wanted some kind of reimbursement for waiting so long. The guy working the register and grill offered us more fries, but we declined. We weren't looking for free anything, just the food we ordered. But once we got it and ate (we didn't eat there because it was so HOT) it wasn't edible.
