My only problem with Knockout Pizza is that three out of the last six pies we have ordered for home delivery have been overdone (meaning the majority of the bottom is black) and tasted burned. Then one of the three "good" ones was underdone. So two out of six were hits; not a great batting average unless you're playing baseball. My conclusion: there needs to be much better supervision or maybe tending the oven should be reserved for more experienced workers. read more

I went here with my family a few years ago for our vacation and had it. Has not changed even in the slightest. Pizza is very flavorful (pepperoni and onion is the way to go) and everything was freshly made. It's very greasy pizza, and that makes it taste fantastic. We are on vacation and I searched "pizza delivery." Knockout had the best reviews and is close to our rental. Good choice on our part - pizzas came in the estimated window and are quite tasty. Good chew on the crust and just enough grease on the cheese. We also ordered a basic house salad, which is fresh and the salad dressing is good. If there's anything, the pizza sauce is a little lackluster. Needs a pinch more salt or garlic salt. Just something to give it a little flavor. Takeout vs For Here: Me and my wife, have been really enjoying knockout pizza when it's 'for here'. We considered it the best pizza in North County. Today, we got a 'to go' pizza and it was far from great. I don't know if it was either a new pizza maker, if it's 'to go' and they don't care as much for the quality but it was undercooked, soggy and had no crust. We saw a huge difference, because we ate the 'to go' pizza at the spot because a table opened up and everyone's pie looked far better than ours. Regardless of toppings. I am a local and used to go to Knockout Pizza all the time. I went a few weeks ago and bought a couple of slices and they were so small at $4.95 a slice. I went back again yesterday and I bought a slice for my son for $4.95 and when we opened the box, the slice was so small and greasy AGAIN!!! I am DONE with Knockout! While staying at a nearby resort, we ordered several pizzas from Knockout Pizza. We probably ordered an assortment of eight pizzas for ten of us. Not sure why we ordered so many, but it was worth it. I tried the supreme, pepperoni, and margarita. The style we ordered were all thin crust, and the crust was not baked hard. You probably need to request the crust well done, if you prefer a crispier crust. All of the pizzas were very good, even having to wait for some time for them to arrive. The pizza went perfect with our beer and the pool atmosphere at the resort. The employee on the telephone who we ordered from was super cool, and the delivery employee was friendly. Needless to say, we had a lot of leftovers. We offered full pizzas to other resort guests, and I was surprised they accepted them. It was a win win for everyone. read more

I was sitting on the Patio of Pure Project enjoying a flight of beers with some friends when all of the sudden I hear none other than the verbose feel good music of Frank Sinatra approaching. I look over and see a delivery driver screech to a stop. The man was obviously in his element as he was singing the song word-for-word and thoroughly enjoying his own performance. He steps out of the car and walks around to the back door. He pulls out two insulated pizza delivery bags. Each move he made was rhythmically choreographed to the song as if he had practiced hundreds if not thousands of times before. He walked toward the side walk as the song came to a long and drawn out end (horns blaring, cymbals crashing). The jaw of each and every man, woman, dog and child at the Carlsbad Village dropped to admire what I can only describe as the most elegant example of human perfection any of us had ever seen. The blissful joy of the recipient was a sight to behold. We all cheered and celebrated this delivery driver's magnificence and the last thing we laid eyes on as he drove off into the sunset along PCH was his white Johnny Bravo socks. I've never tried Knockout Pizza, but being present for this moment in history was enough for me to etch the story into the tablet of time, so that others could know the tale of the most incredible delivery driver there ever was. read more

I was very surprised on how good the pizza was, the first thing I noticed was how good and fresh the crust tasted. The crust is hand tossed and obviously made fresh to order. I saw them making the dough and throwing the crust in the air. It's very good New York pizza. They cut their 18 inch pizza wiith big slices. The only downside was the toppings. I ordered a pepperoni pizza with 1/2 olives. But the 1/2 olives was more like a 1/3 olives. The pizza could of used more pepperoni and olives. Every time I go to Carlsbad California to visit my grandma I absolutely got to hit this spot up everytime, it's right on the beach and they sell big Pieces by the slice and whole pies. They also do apps like garlic knots and have about four or five beers on tap, I really like the pepperoni pizza cuz they use the little pepperonis that tend to get a nice crisp on them when they're in the pizza oven. If you are looking for delivery, this is not the place. Ordered online and was told delivery would be 1 hour. Thought that was long, but figured they wanted to "under promise" and "over deliver". Nope. Knockout prefers to over promise and UNDER deliver. About 1.5 hour delivery time on a Wednesday at 2pm for ONE pizza. My office is 5-7 minutes away from their location. Cannot imagine what delivery is like on a Friday or Saturday night..... Well, pizza arrives and it is evident it sat out for a period of time. It was barely warm and looked a day old. The flavor was good, but woukd have preferred a hot pizza delivered timely. I will go in to Knockout for pizza to eat, but will not order delivery again. So we were looking for something to snack on and Yelp has been really really promoting Knockout Pizza of late. So we decided to order the pizza for takeout. While the name and theme of the place is centered around a knockout... the pizza itself was not. :( Our experience with the ordering process(by phone) and at the shop itself kinda left me wondering what kind of training... if any, is happening? So in order of what I experienced: Ordering by phone: On calling, I got through after a ring, which was nice. However, the person who took my order sounded like they were shouting at the phone while at a concert. Had to repeat myself a few times, but I figured, there was music playing, must be busy, etc. Pickup Experience: So we walked over to Knockout Pizza... on the way, we passed by Knockout Burger, which was humming with business. So we figured the pizza place would be similar as well. It wasn't. The shop itself was fairly empty, but lots of folks bunched up around the entrance. Apparently, people waiting to pickup their orders. A good sign? The person who helped us was courteous and after checking, indicated that our order would be ready in a few minutes. So we took a seat out of the way. The place was... loud. So loud I could not actually have a conversation without leaning in and speaking loudly. We were not the only ones impacted by the loud music. I watched several people come in and try to place an order and leave, without ordering anything. Seriously, this isn't the only place that has loud music... but having it blaring loudly where the checkout register is...? Really? We waited for our order and while doing so, I also watched the staff. I had a good impression on walking in, but that impression soon fell as the minutes ticked by: - no one was wearing a hairnet while handling food or working with sauces/etc. - no one was wearing gloves while handling food or working with sauces/etc. - no one was wearing masks. - staff in the kitchen were chatting and laughing while handling a pitcher of sauce and making food. This without any kind of protection with regards to food handling. There was also inconsistency with regards to how completed orders were announced. While waiting, we had watched an order be completed, someone reading out the name a couple of times, then putting the order back on the shelf. They would never look at that order again. I noticed they completed another order, but after placing it on the shelf, but the person who completed the order and the person who was working the register went off somewhere and someone else came up to work the register. No one even took another look at the orders waiting on the shelf. Figuring it was most likely our order, we went up to line up and one of the other staff noticed and got the order that I thought was ours and handed it to us. I love pizza. I love pizza places. But I worry about the handling of food stuffs at this place. We got home with the pizza and I guess something did knock us out... the crust of the pizza is chewy(good) and about 1-1.5cm tall(also good) but the rest of the 18" pizza was super thin/flat. This was NOT a cheese pizza. There were toppings and such and it was flat. Like 2-3mm thick flat. Almost consistently like a flat plate. I guess the pizza itself was knocked out? Seriously, I wasn't expecting a deep dish or a thick crust, their site's pictures indicated the pie would be on the _thinner_ side... but this was... 1 sheet of cardboard thin. And it wasn't just the pizza we ordered, the ones behind the glass were like that as well. And this wasn't the crispy thin crust type of pizza... this was a thin and floppy pizza crust. So besides being able to cook a pizza faster, I have no idea why a place would opt for a super thin crust and then leave it soft and floppy. This is NOT what I think of when I think of pizza. The taste itself was okay. But between the food handling, loud music/noise, and watching our order just sit there until we got up to get it, I felt ripped off. I'm rating 3 stars because the staff's energy was good, the pizza's taste wasn't bad, and neither of us got sick from eating the pizza.
