The Knotty Pine is a breakfast place in my mind, since that's what they do well. I grew up here and used to come here with my family when I was a kid. The food was always solid, service quick, and the lady usually had some free doughnuts for my brother and me. It's been a while since I ate here, since I no longer live in the neighborhood, but I remember feeling like I was in one of those diners reminiscent of 1950s Americana. Meh...it was okay. People get weirdly sentimental about particular neighborhood diners and overpraise them. This place isn't bad, but it's definitely overrated. It takes "greasy spoon" a little too literally, the utensils are clean of course but all the other surfaces (tables, benches, counter, stools) seem kinda greasy. The omelets are cooked right on the griddle instead of in - y'know - an OMELET pan, which makes it easier for the kitchen staff to crank them out quickly but the finished product isn't as tasty and your eggs don't get fluffy like they should be. Some people have commented on the home fries being really good, but I wouldn't know because omelets don't come with home fries (seriously!). Service is very friendly, but a little unreliable. It's wicked cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for. I'd rather pay a couple bucks extra and get better food. Cash only. read more

What a weird place! It seems like the decor is the bastard child of a skanky motel and a run down sports bar. My dad and I stopped here for lunch one day at work, sat at the bar. I got a tuna melt, he got a grilled cheese and chili. We had apparently walked in just about seven minutes before closing time, I didn't see the hours posted anywhere obvious, but saw them cleaning and wrapping cutlery for the next day, writing up new signs. My dad however was looking for the sports page and wanted to chat up the guy behind the counter about last nights game. We accidently stayed past close without upsetting anybody, my sandwich was good, the fries were not. It was filling, and my dad said his food was good too. read more

This place is one of those small town diner gems - great food, big servings, heaping homefries, etc. We had omelets and homefries, toast and coffee, all for about 12 each, and sat at Waffle House style stools. Tiny Greek Greasy Spoon that serves fast and basic egg breakfasts. Recently, we had short time to grab a bit and ran into a waitress that must have believed we kicked her dog. Barely acknowledged for ten minutes, which is an eternity on a Wednesday morning at 8:30, took three trips to bus the table from the previous guests, leave. Wipe down the table, leave; set fork and napkin, leave; finally bring the coffee. We were ready to leave and skip breakfast all together. Once the order hit the kitchen, the Knotty Pine went back to what we've always experienced: quick good breakfast. The owner even came over to say hello and tell us how she's going back to Greece to visit. Get rid of that waitress please. read more

We will definitely go back to the Knotty Pine. The place is great. The hash brown potatoes were really good. The eggs were cooked properly and were not coated in grease. The coffee was not bad but wasn't great either....average is ok. The fact that they have a good ventilation system means your cloths don't smell like grease....that's a big plus for me. The owners and wait staff are friendly and act like they care about you. That is probably the most important part of this place. The decor is funky but that's what makes it the knotty pine....don't change a thing. The pancakes were very good....just be aware they only have so-called "Pancake Syrup"... which is not Real Maple syrup. I look forward to going again soon. read more

Breakfast here is decent, but not fantastic. I've been probably five times. They didn't have corned beef hash any of the times I was there. Their home fries are good...a bit different. The spicy kick makes them stand out. Family owned and operated. Everyone in there is friendly, and you can start a conversation with anyone sitting at the counter. The menu is very home school breakfast fare, the kind your grandmother whipped up in a few minutes when she was in a hurry. The food itself wasn't remarkable. The best part of breakfast was the side of home fries, which is actually worth ordering if you make your way out. The service I received was bizarrely horrible. I was rushed to order, never checked up on once the food was delivered, and was given the check halfway through my meal, without asking, making me feel unwelcome and like I was being asked to leave, despite the place being nearly empty. All in all, with an unimpressive menu and mediocre service, I can't see myself recommending this place to a friend nor giving it above a two star rating. Cash only which is a little annoying but their home fries are worth it. There's a spice to them and onions I think. Easily the best home fries I've ever had, and their portions are large which I appreciate. Living close by means that this is my go-to option I have if I don't want to cook breakfast on the weekends. Their omelettes are pretty good, I usually get the western. Went inside and sat down a few times, people there seem friendly and lots of local regulars, but we were left alone mostly and had a nice quiet breakfast in a booth. Mostly I eat here as takeout and their service is usually very quick, which is great when you're starving and too lazy to cook. This is such a cute place, though it is very small, it is what is expected. For two orders of eggs, home-fries, bacon and coffee, it only came out to $18.15. All the waitresses are young and very friendly. From my past restaurant experience, in my opinion they checked in on us too frequently. Can't really blame them though because they want to get everyone in and out because of the lack of tables. Overall, the food is very good, quick service and great prices! Tired of that hotel or big chain restaurant food? Visit the Knotty Pine. Yes, this sounds like ad copy but it isn't. Their food is down-home good: bacon and eggs, blueberry French toast, etc. My wife and I walked a half-mile to this place in the high temp and humidity of a summer day and it was worth it. Great hole in the wall breakfast place on weekends. If your in the Moody street area and the restaurant breakfast lines are a hour plus wait drive the five minutes up the street to Auburndale. No fancy dishes just basic fresh good morning meals. I have worked in the area for over ten years and decided to try it out for a quick breakfast with my boyfriend. Needless to say we felt unwelcomed from the minute we entered this establishment. They clearly did not seem to appreciate African Americans dining here. We stood at the counter for almost five minutes before we were asked very rudely by a man in a greasy apron, "what do you need'? We ordered two breakfast sandwiches TO GO. We watched as he threw them together and bagged them up as quickly as he could. It was quite clear that we were not welcomed and all the patrons seemed to agree as they stared at us like it was the deep south in the 1940's!!! Segregation has left a long time ago people of Knotty Pine so get over it. We are from the South End of BOSTON BORN AND RAISED. We paid for our sandwiches which were tossed on the counter. This place is sooooo RACIST they are just lucky we are far more educated then them or they would have seen som real GHETTO action. I will definately NOT recommend this place to any of my friends of ALL RACES!!! It's a sheme because if you go right around the corner to Tom's pizza you are treated awesome.
