We've been in the silver Spring/Kensington area since 2023 and after all our visits to BabyCat brewery, we decided to get dinner at Dish and Dram finally the other night. Really solid four stars and a strong recomend fora cozy, relaxed and casual dinner with your partner, freinds, yourself or family. The only note is parking in their lot is nigh impossible some times, so your best bet is to find street parking nearby and drop anyone who can't walk all that far. If you don't drink they seem to have a limited NA beer selection, and I didn't see any mocktails. We really liked our beet salad and our Ceasar salad, which came out os fast, I wonder if they already had them prepped. I really liked my fish and chips as it was a nice portion and wasn't heavy on the frying at all. It was very well done and the tartar sauce was great. My wife got the (I think it was a special) Tuna poke for her main, which she said was really tasty. But, it also looked like a small portion in one of those weird plates that only had a modest divut in the middle for food. Nonetheless, she liked it a lot. If it becomes a mainstay, they just need to make it a bigger portion on a better bowl. We're happy we finally came and will return. read more

I recently had dinner at The Dish & Dram and had a really great experience overall. The space has a cozy, relaxed vibe that makes it perfect for a date night or a casual dinner with friends. We ordered a few dishes to share, and everything was well-executed and flavorful. The brussels sprouts were a standout to start, and the mussels in the coconut curry had a rich, well-balanced flavor. I also really enjoyed the grilled Faroe salmon with the butternut squash purée--it was cooked perfectly. The steak frites with the red wine mushroom reduction glaze was another favorite and definitely worth ordering. For drinks, I tried the Cherry Blossom "Another Trip Around the Sun" (a seasonal cocktail available through April 12th), along with the brown sugar old-fashioned and the lavender French 75. All three were well-made and complemented the meal nicely. Overall, this is a solid spot if you're looking for a cozy atmosphere, good food, and quality cocktails. Went to this hidden gem in Kensington and absolutely loved it. It's a cute little neighborhood. Spot in the staff was super friendly. The fish and chips were absolutely incredible and the dill sauce that goes with it was so good. They also have amazing mock tails which I feel like isn't widely known. I absolutely love when a restaurant has amazing mock tails, possibly one of the best ones I've ever had. read more

RESTAURANT WEEK. The flavor of D&D's $40 Price Fix meals were awesome this week (I share this because the food can be hit/miss most at other times). Highly recommend checking it out and HOPE the restaurant will consider adding some of the wonderful Specials to its menu. BLUF: Lovely l'il neighborhood spot. Rustic. Fresh food. Helpful, pleasant service. Healthy options. Wonderfully accommodating. Makes me wish I lived in the neighborhood! My first time at Dish and Dram weekend brunch was pretty good. Everyone at my table ordered eggs in a different form. Unfortunately, my huevos rancheros was very liquidy and soggy. I would not recommend or order again. The person who ordered Turkish eggs would have liked another slice of grilled baguette. The others enjoyed their meals. Pros: I like the lighting. So many bars/restaurants have insanely bright lights. We aren't performing surgery. This place gets the lighting right...enough to see the menu, but nice and dim around the bar. The falafel is really good. I appreciate that it's not super dry. Cons: Immediately when you walk in, you are punched in the face with intense cooking smoke and grease. I hate leaving a place smelling like fryer grease. They need better ventilation in the kitchen. The bar stools are way too high for the bar. You are just dangling awkwardly over the counter. They need more veggie options. read more

Very nice place and during the summer they have an outdoor area. The food selection is great with sandwiches, salads and main courses which provide a nice selection for the table. This place used to be really great for happy hour with a friendly bartender and a neighborhood vibe. Yesterday we sat up at the bar for about 10 minutes and then left because nobody acknowledged us, said hi, gave us a menu or even said "just a sec." To be fair, it was only a few minutes. But the bartender was MIA at 7:00 on a Thursday and none of the various staff that were around bothered to greet us. read more

The initial welcome and attitude of staff was rude and unwelcoming. The initial greeting was to tell us the kitchen was closing and almost felt like they hoped we would leave. When we sat down we were told "I'd like to take your order as soon as possible" and felt as if any questions about the menu were annoying. The food came and was ok. No dessert was available. Was mediocre at best. The food portions were very small, they DIDN'T have their AC going when it has been consistently 90+ this last week. The service was also lacking, they did their base duties, and then they shamed us into asking for a bill to be split, 3 way (so not that hard), and then after throwing a hissy fit, they split the bill anyways and said that "next time the waiter wont be as nice, and that people usually just venmo one another, so remember that for next time." What a little gem in the heart of antiques row in Kensington! Unique menu with numerous seafood dishes, burgers, pork chops, etc. I opted for a customer-fave, fish and chips (with Old Bay on the fries) that came with homemade slaw (seasoned just right and not drowned in mayo) and pickled veg. The fish was flaky and not greasy. Large portion. Friend had the lemon butter mussels served in a unique cast iron pot, with fries and crusty bread for dipping. I've dined at D&D about 10 times over the past few years. It is an unpretentious, neighborhood bistro with friendly, efficient service, but a limited lunchtime menu. I've generally been happy with their cheese burger or fish and chips. Salads are also pretty good. I would like to give a 4-5 rating, but rate it 3 because my most recent experience was disappointing. The fish and chips was to be made with catfish, not cod as promised on the menu (glad the server warned me!). My burger was overcooked and rather cold, and came with an inedible slice of red onion and overcooked french fries. My wife's salad and daughter's brisket sandwich were uninspiring. The rear dining room had lots of flies that we were constantly shooing away. Hence, it will be a while before we dine there again. read more

Went for brunch on Father's Day. We had indifferent service and food that was below par. My fried green tomato benedict was underwhelming, with tiny eggs and mushy fried tomatoes. My wife's shrimp and grits were unremarkable except for the overcooked shrimp, overcooked grits, and a "sauce" that made everything soupy. The breakfast burger was well done instead of the requested medium, breakfast burrito was dry, drinks like water and iced tea went unfilled. The only positive note was the food actually tasted good. Given the number of other restaurants in the area we are unlikely to be back. read more

Good service and pretty good food. I would recommended it but with the slight caveat described in the third paragraph. I have enjoyed every entree I've had in my 2 or 3 visits. I had the grilled cheese sandwich at my most recent visit. It was outstanding and excelled far beyond the simple ones that I've typically had at my or others' homes. I want to have it again. Boy, was it tasty! The desserts are hit and miss, though. My friends and I went ga-ga over their delicious lemon posset. OTOH, we weren't as pleased with the chocolate mousse or the blackberry & pear (or was it peach?) crisp. I like the ambiance with the original, locally created art tastefully displayed throughout the restaurant. It's even in the bathrooms. I look forward to my next visit. read more

Dish & Dram is my go-to location for a nice meal out. We usually sit on the covered patio; they have heaters in the cooler weather. I have tried just about everything on the menu and loved 80% and the other 20% were mostly good. Don't be fooled by the strip mall location - the ambiance is great and the service usually terrific. I bring my two small doodles, and the staff prepares a child's cheese burger (no seasoning) which the pups share with great enthusiasm. The fried oysters are always a hit, and I love the soup specials. A young friend always orders the duck confit nachos, which are a wonderful take on a popular dish, and large enough for an entre. Huevos rancheros, when on the brunch menu, are another favorite. This place is a neighborhood gem. read more

COVID update: I frequent this place as may be noticed by previous reviews. I've decided to post some reviews specifically highlighting Covid responses by eateries. The Dish & Dram gets 5 stars. DINING OPTIONS: The Dish & Dram offers dine-in as well as outdoor seating in addition to carry-out and local delivery. This includes selections from the bar if you're looking for a liquid accompaniment to your meal. SEATING: Groups are seated with plenty of distance both inside and out. Staff are diligent with disinfecting between customers. ORDERING: The menu and ordering is available contact-free through Ordereze by scanning the barcode on what I'm calling the "rules of engagement" on each table (I'll add photo). Masks are required when speaking with your server and when you are not consuming food/beverages. The staff actively engage in social distancing as much as possible, even when taking your order. This is a place (along with their sister location The Daily Dish) that I know is taking COVID seriously and is doing all they can to protect their customers and staff. My only recommendation is for them to post their "rules of engagement" (my term) on their web page so people can view it online. Our family just celebrated our son's college graduation at Dish and Dram's *AMAZING* private party room. We have had an incredible experience this evening, and why?? 1. The food was beyond perfect. Absolutely every last detail was delicious!!!! Everyone raved about the food. 2. The atmosphere was just exceptional. What a beautiful space!! Our party of 20 was so comfortable in such a lovely space. 3. The service was impeccably good. We all felt well cared for and right at home. At the end of the night, I felt as if we had been welcomed into a gorgeous home with delicious food. If you are looking for a memorable private space at a very reasonable price, (oh! We have ordered from the Dish and Dram several times during covid but this was our first time dining in the restaurant. It was the end of brunch time and quiet and we had a great table near the bar with the elite 8 games on. We had a mimosa and Bloody Mary and put in our order. Like three times after we had ordered and already gotten our drinks but not yet our food, our waitress came to see if we needed anything. I mean, what are the options here?! But like no we're good- go away! Lol. She was nice though. Super formal. I had the shrimp and grits, which came out cold. Boo. I sent them back to have them heated up and then they were nearly perfect. My boyfriend had the salmon Benedict which he loved. All in all, we were pleased. We ended up staying and watching the rest of the basketball game that was on and moved to the bar. The bartender was awesome. His name was Fidel, like Castro (his words not mine!). He was fun and engaging. The manager walking around was very nice and helpful. They seemed to be out of a lot of stuff (one of the beer taps was missing, the wine tap was out...) but, it was a great afternoon and we will definitely come back. I came here for the first time with my girlfriends. Staff was wonderful. They have seasonal menus. Not a huge selection but enough for everyone to find something. Everyone loved their dish.
