Great service and delicious whiskeys and gin. Highly recommend doing a flight or two (share and you can taste more!). The cocktails are also amazing. I had the Spices pear mule as it is Fall. Richard was our whiskey steward and did an excellent job along with Greg in explaining all the nuances of the different proofs and all of their liquors. The ambiance is that of a sophisticated bar with casual friendly demeanor that makes you feel like you have been coming here for years.

I had the most amazing time visiting KO Distilling. Everyone was SUPER polite and knowledgeable. If you have the pleasure of running into Greg then you are definitely in for a treat! He knows something about everything and can provide you with so much information while making the perfect drink.. And breaking down your whiskey, bourbon and gin fact. I yelped this spot, as it was close to the tulip farm (Burnside Farms). I am SO glad we stopped in. It wasn't busy when we first got there around 2:30, so we felt like we got the VIP treatment from the get go! We were greeted and seated by Idil, and then she gave us a thorough rundown. Since it's considered an ABC establishment, you can only order 3 oz per person, per day, but lemme tell you- three cocktails is all you'll need! My girlfriend only got two. I got two drinks off the menu, and then Idil suggested making her own concoction for my third, which was perfect. While they don't sell food per se, they do sell hummus with pretzels & a meat/cheese tray. We did get the hummus & pretzels, and were very happy campers.

I went to Manassas for ice cream but wanted check out other places in the area and while researching distilleries, KO Distilling appeared. I was not familiar with it, or their Bare Knuckle brand, but it's highly rated and with great reason. The entire experience is fantastic and all masking, distancing, and hygiene protocols are followed. The tasting room is warm and welcoming and there is outside seating as well. Greg, a Certified Bourbon Steward, was my tasting guide (no tours at this time) and he was fantastic. He's funny and amazingly knowledgeable. I've done distillery tours and tastings before but learned more with Greg than I had at the others combined. I highly recommend booking your tasting with Greg. You can also book through OpenTable, instead of calling, which is nice. I also appreciated that as a solo taster, I was made to feel quite comfortable. When I visited, KO Distilling accepted credit cards, but you can only tip in cash, so be sure to bring some (no app tipping either--I asked about Venmo). I did the four spirit tasting and tasted the barrel-finished gin, rye, bourbon, and single barrel bourbon. I didn't care for the gin, which surprised me, as I thought I would love the aged flavor, and I'm a huge gin fan. The rye and bourbon were both great; the single barrel bourbon is outstanding. It's smooth, caramel-y, and a bit smokey and cinnamon-y. You can also taste cocktails as well. I'm really mad at myself for not buying the bourbon, as I thought I'd be back in a few weeks, but that has not yet happened. However, I'm still planning to return shortly. KO should absolutely be on your must-try list.

We came here months ago and had a nice time. We tried a flight and also ordered drinks from the menu. I think we ended up taking home to small batch rye which was really good. Nice staff and a good amount of seating indoors, as well as outdoors.

This is a really nice local distillery which offers both distillery tours and tasting or just cocktails and snacks. My group decided to go with the cocktails and snacks so we ordered up a flight of cocktails each. Each cocktail comes with a shot glass taster of the spirit used to make it so that you can try them neat as well which I thought was a really nice touch. My favorite was the hot spiced cider. The cocktails on offer rotate with the seasons so since it was wintery and chilly several warm cocktails were available and the fireplace was roaring adding to the overall warmth and cheer. The distillery is small so it's best to book a table in advance especially if you have a larger group. Snacks and drinks are fairly priced and service is personable and quick. The boxing theme runs throughout and they have some nice merchandise displays. Overall just a very pleasant way to pass a chilly afternoon with friends.

This distillery is fantastic! It was my first ever visit to a distillery, and I didn't really know what to expect. I bought a Groupon for a tour for four people plus shot glasses. My group was looking for something different to do, so we said why not?!! When you first walk in, the decor is spot on. It has an industrial/rustic chic thing going on with lots of leather and wood furniture pieces. We started our tour with Ed who was unassumingly funny! You can tell he's done his research and is super knowledgeable. Apparently, he also does wine tours at local wineries and has a bit of a fan base that follows him around. After touring the facilities and learning about the distilling process, we went to do the tastings. The staff in the tasting room were also friendly and accomodating. My group was only interested in trying the whiskeys, so I can't speak on the gin but have heard it is good. We liked the Bare Knuckle American wheat whiskey, so purchased a bottle of that to go. I would highly recommend a visit here even if distilleries don't particularly interest you. The staff, ambiance, and drinks were awesome!

Great cocktail tasting with fun miniature flights. My fiancee went with the straight neat tasting, while I chose the more adventurous mini cocktail flight. Instead of having the difficulty of choosing only a couple of cocktails from a long list, I really like how KO offers a tasting of its gin, moonshine, bourbon, rye, and straight whiskey with accompanying juices (i love the homemade blackberry juice!). It's nice to not have to wrestle on which drink to get - you get to try them all! It's nice to get a taste of the spirit neat and then try it with a juice for a balanced flavor. Although I enjoyed the spirits, the homemade juices really stood out to me and complemented the spirits. My favorites were the pear chai lemonade with barrel finished gin, homemade blackberry juice with gin, honey ginger ale with rye whiskey, and pear shrub apple cider with bourbon whiskey. The tartness and sweetness of the juices provided great flavor to the spirits. I wasn't a big fan of the Arnold Palmer and regular lemonade, they were a bit too sweet for me. In addition to the variety of juices in the tasting, I really enjoyed how the tasting was done at my own pace. The bartender kindly brought over 2 drinks at a time to the sofa and explained each one without rushing us through. As my fiancee polished off a bottle of the Bare Knuckle bourbon, will be back to get another bottle and try out more craft cocktails!

I don't even know if I would call this a distillery... I'm surprised y'all even has it on their page.. I would be ashamed of myself giving it one star.. it reeks to high heaven as soon as you walk in.. everybody is rude to you when you try and ask questions.. like something is going on they don't want you to know... They made my son took his tail between his legs... Didn't even bat an eye... I tasted some of what they brew out of there long neck bottles.. I'd rather have a naughty light in a glass with ice... These people should be ashamed of how they treated me and my son..granted my son is of the age..but he is special and they did did everything I could to make him not feel that way... Never go here never think about going here I hope the market crushes you read more

Incredibly friendly staff! The tour was very informative, our tour guide was happy to answer all of our questions. Lots of tasting options & they were more than happy to accommodate everyone in the group. Loved the atmosphere of the tasting room, their gin is the best I've tried during a craft distillery tour, definitely prefer it over some "top shelf" brands. read more

World class alternate to Napa, Bourbon Trail and Rte 66 traffic will surprise you if you're expecting a hole in the wall, local dig. Beautifully appointed, clean and comfortable. A great meet up place. Yes, it is homey, easy to get to and full of friendly hosts. The by-product of this staycation destination is some pretty good hooch which will only get better. Lots of room in three different areas not including the patio and distillery. It's a step to the side and one up on all the breweries and wineries. read more

We had a great experience at KO Distillery and will be back. The tour was nothing exciting, but their gin and whiskey were both noteworthy. The bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable about their products and flavor profiles of their drinks. The prices are reasonable, and their tastings are a must! The tasting options can include mixed drinks, so if you're a 30 something that can't drink straight liquor anymore, they have you covered. Also, there was a heavenly smoked drink that is worth trying. Check this place out! read more

Pretty cool brewery. They give you wristbands upon entering the vicinity. There's a separate room for liquor tastings aka the bourbons from the general merchandise and bar. When I went they were offering free tours of the brewing area which was pretty cool. A barbecue for truck was outside which offered pretty tasty food. Besides the truck, their food options are limited so plan ahead if you're hungry! Tons of seating areas inside. One thing I do want to call out or mention is that they don't have TVs so if you're expecting to catch a game while sipping a brew, you may be disappointed. read more

I basically tripped over this place while helping my nephew with his car. I never would have found KO if I hadn't driven up from Spotsylvania to do a favor for my nephew. tucked into an industrial park, across from an auto repair shop I found KO Distilling. So I stopped in to look around. Do not let the unassuming exterior fool you. These folks are serious about their spirits. I was greeted warmly by Greg. The way he spoke about the place and its history, I assumed he was the owner. Then he told me it was his first day. Greg is an aficionado for sure. I ordered the bourbon/whiskey flight. It was a great deal. For $15 you get 6 tastes - probably about 1/2 a shot. Greg walked through each one and even taught me some things about how better to enjoy and appreciate the spirits. I highly recommend visiting this place. read more

KO Distilling is a new distillery in the area. When you walk inside, you feel like you're in someone's home and not a distillery. The furniture is warm and inviting, the bar area has a homey feel, and there is plenty of natural light from the windows. Currently KO Distilling makes their own gin and white whiskey. They offer tastings where you can try their spirits. The tasting is short (3 in total) but they take the time to explain what the spirits are and make suggestions of how to mix them. During our tasting, they offered mixers for us to try tonic water for the gin and ginger ale to mix with the white whiskey. I really liked their gin. It drinks smooth and is a good base for a gin a tonic. They also offer tours for $6.00 each. The tours last 30 minutes and they take you through the process of making their spirits. They are also working on bourbon, but it will take awhile for them to sell it. The staff was nice and answered all our questions. We met the "O" from the KO Distilling, Mr. and Mrs. O'Mara who did our tasting. You can tell they care about their product. read more

Although I'm not a 'beer' drinker. I do embellish on 'cocktails, mixed drinks' from time to time. Hey someone has to be DD. :) I love the atmosphere, the appearance and the friendly staff that work here. Dana is SUPERB and always brings me a 'tasty' concoction to enjoy. They also have candles, sauces and other wonderful items to buy. Their bourbon is delicious too. Sitting on the couch by the fireplace is like being at 'home'. read more

Our visit to KO distillery was amazing and highly recommended. Gregg welcomed us and he was so knowledgeable in the science of distilling and transforming the results into wonderful product. We got a 4 shot tasting and and greg provided us a fascinating explanation on how each of the brands were developed . We learned so much on the steps to make bourbon, as well as their other lines.They also make many unique cocktails that are fantastic. We bought 2 bottles and are enjoying it. We intend to return to KO in manassas and you all should. For folks traveling, its so easy to slip over from I 95 from SR 234 over to mananasas and return back on I 66. Its really great to see how Virginia has grown to be an amazing state for craft beers, wines and now craft distilleries. Enjoy read more

Great tasting gin! Just want to make that clear from the beginning. Aside from that the tour was enjoyable- not so long that it becomes boring but long enough that you've learned a great deal about the process of distilling. Came with my wife for a tour and tasting. I did feel a bit rushed through the tasting though, which isn't great when you're sampling liquors. Staff was very polite and answered all of our questions. read more

Had a great tour and tasting this afternoon! Our tour was led by Larry who included just enough "science" with his explanations to keep us all interested and for non science folks to understand. The tastings were interesting and well, tasty! We opted for the "Cocktail" version and loved the combinations of gin and whisky with "mixers". Will definitely return to try some signature drinks and relax in their welcoming, cozy location. read more

I took the tour and did the cocktail tasting; it was fantastic! The tour was informative and the liquor tasting is a can't miss. The gin is the best liquor right now (Navy strength in particular), but the bourbon will be great when it ages a bit more. Take the tour and taste the liquors, you won't regret it! read more

I visited this distillery with my wife and son yesterday. We took the tour led by Larry and he showed us their process for making their gin and whiskey. It was a great tour for a small distillery. We then tried the classic tasting where they serve you a sample of their three gin products and four whiskey products. We enjoyed the tasting and we ended up buying some gin and whiskey to bring home. I recommend if you are in the Northern Virginia area to make a trip out here to the KO Distillery! read more

We did a tour. Four friends from Burke/ Fairfax Station showed up as a gift from one friends wife. The location was a little surprising; however, when we walked in we met Peter. The inside and operation was impressive. I have been to several of these tours on cruises and Jim Beam and Jack Daniels. These guys have an extremely well managed operation. The taste of Gin ( non Gin drinker) and Wiskey was impressive and reasonable cost. This young company will do well. We all bought a bottle and tee shirts too. We will come back. Peter is a great front man. The head distillery expert chatted with us too. Extra cool. read more

I paid KO Distilling a visit on a trip back east. Thoroughly enjoyed the tasting and the tour. I learned so much about distillation. I had no idea on how much effort is put into a bottle of Gin. Everyone there was real friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I did both the tasting and the tour. read more

Visited on a Sunday afternoon when it was fairly slow. When we walked in one of the workers asked us if we wanted a tour. The tour was ok but most of it was him complaining about the restrictions set by ABC. When I got my bill he charged us for the tour, but never told us prior to the tour that they charge for that. As far as the products, the whiskey was eh but the gin was good. I can't recommend because of the poor service and all of the complaining. read more

Friendly staff-- we were a large(ish) group that came upon this place while doing a self-guided alcohol tour of N. Virginia. They gave us a tour of the distillery -- which all of us enjoyed. We took part in the cocktail sampling of gins, whiskeys, rye and bourbon. Very interesting to taste all of these varieties in one sitting. The cocktails were AMAZING! Also- the bathrooms were nice (which is important to me!). I highly recommend going here! Ample parking on site as well. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to go to KO Distilling on Valentine's Day for the first time. The experience was absolutely amazing thanks to Greg who was the most knowledgeable person I have ever met in terms of spirits (whiskey in particular). Not only did I leave having tried an amazing selection of whiskey/bourbon but I left with a better understanding of the whiskey making process and the chemistry behind it all! We arrived and were promptly greeted by Tyler. We said we wanted the tour and there was confusion if someone was available to give the tour, but then Tyler stepped up o give the tour. The tour could have provided more information about why they distill the way they do. We enjoyed the information about the owners and how they built the business. After the tour, someone else started us with samples. She was very friendly. Unfortunately, she took a smoke break during our samples. We did not enjoy the whiskeys without the mixers, but the gin was tasty. The variety of mixers were creative, unique, and very tasty. The recommendations of mixers with the various whiskeys and gins were great. read more

History

Established in 2013.

Bill Karlson and John O'Mara founded KO Distilling in 2013, and they opened it to the public in 2015. Today, KO distilling is the 6th largest distillery in Virginia, and we strive to provide an educational and entertaining tourism destination for all our visitors. Visitors can enjoy touring our production floor and sampling our craft spirits, or they can rent out the distillery for private events.

Meet the Business Owner: Bill K. and John O.

Former US Merchant Marines and Navy Reservists Bill Karlson and John O'Mara weren't content with sitting idle after their retirements, so in 2013 they began their journey to create craft spirits with local ingredients and high-quality methods. Bill and John's backgrounds in engineering inspire their advanced distilling processes, and their passion for great spirits drives their attention to quality and detail.

While looking at the menu, we were served the complimentary chips and salsa which was good. For entrees, we had Filete ala Crema, al Gusto Soup, and Tacos (I forgot which one specifically). The serving sizes were humongous! The Filete ala Crema could probably we shared by 2-3 people. I could say the same for the soup and the tacos. We could say that the seafood was fresh - no funny smells and the food was prepared well. The prices were reasonable. We would love to go back for when we are craving for seafood.

So you can imagine my surprise when I saw a huge building with their branding. The interior is spacious, with multiple tables for tastings, each with its own bartender. There are far more options to taste than you can try in one sitting, but your server will help you narrow it down to 4. I liked to loved everything I had. They even had some weird options that I was tempted to try but I went for a more traditional flight (although I definitely want to return for the coffee whisky). The only option I wasn't in love with was the smokehouse, but that's just a personal preference. After my tasting I learned they were doing some kind of slushys as well, so I got one of those. I thought it was a very fun, informative experience. I'll also have to try the "Proof" kitchen as well.

There's a lot that is Hard and Unhappy in the world right now, but KO Distilling is a spectacular oasis from that. Not only do they know their craft inside and out, they are brilliant at it, and they are wonderful, real people to boot. We'd bought their gins and whiskey before (their Navy Strength Gin is one of our favorite gins--and now their Single Barrel Rye is my favorite rye!) but we'd never been to the distillery, and I'm so glad we did--we had a truly great time. We were lucky enough to have a personal tour of the distillery with Greg Rixon, the resident Executive Bourbon Steward, who is incredibly knowledgeable about their processes and the science and history and world of whiskey and spirits in general, and gave us a wonderfully fun, and informative tour. The tasting room (and fabulous outdoor seating area!) were inviting (and safe!) and was a place I felt comfortable and welcome, and want to come back to again and again. Even though we'd had some of them before, we did a tasting of their 3 gins (to try the Barrel Finished Gin- yum!) and the wheat, rye and bourbon whiskey (which are all unique and fabulous), brought to us by Greg who took a lot of his time to talk with us and continue to make us feel incredibly welcome and cared about. He told us all sorts marvelous stories and shared his adventures in cocktail creation--and when it was time to pick which drink we wanted, my husband asked him to make us his own specially designed cocktail (which was Straight-Up Amazing!) and I asked him to make me his favorite whiskey cocktail--which turned out to be The Most Delicious Sazerac I Have Ever Had. Not only does KO make some of The Best (and in my opinion, THE Best Rye and Navy Strength Gin) spirits anywhere (let alone just in Virginia!), their cocktails are high-end, unique, and delicious creations--but at real-people prices, served by amazing and real people, in a warm, inviting place. AND among the bottles we bought to take home was their newest release, their Distiller's Reserve Bourbon. We just opened it last night, and were blown away by how absolutely incredible it is--soft, warm vanilla and caramel and brown sugar, baking spices--I'm no professional taster, but I can tell you it is more than worth what they are asking for it, and if you're a bourbon lover, you need to get a bottle of this before its gone. It's also now taken its place as my new favorite bourbon! (Clearly) I cannot say enough good things about KO--if you haven't taken the time to go visit them, you really, really should. Thank you to everyone there for all your hard work that goes into all the deliciousness you create and the awesomeness that is your space, and an extra thank you so much to Greg for making our visit there such a great time. I visited KO Distilling in Manassas, Virginia with my brother-in-law on Saturday and we had a lot of fun! The KO Distilling visitor center is very close to Route 66 and easy to find. We took the distillery tour where their master distiller Ryan Hendricks walked us through the entire process, from mixing the grains all the way through to the finished products. He even showed us cutouts of bourbon barrels and described the barrel aging process to us which was very interesting, and then he showed us the barrel room where all of the barrels of bourbon were stacked up in various stages of aging. I highly recommend taking the tour! After the tour we walked around the visitor center. The two founders, Bill Karlson and John O'Mara are both proud Merchant Marines and the style and decoration of the visitor center blends some of that Navy seafaring background with local historical context. They even have their own challenge coins! We made our way over to the bar and sampled some of their current products. The Virginia Moon White Whiskey was very smooth and flavorful for an un-aged whiskey, and the 114 Proof Navy Strength Battle Standard Gin was the best gin I've ever tasted! You can purchase bottles at the visitor center so we loaded up on the way out. Visiting KO Distilling made for an excellent Saturday afternoon day trip and I'll be back again to check out their new products! Thanks! read more

Yes, it actually feels good to have a worthy credit profile.
