We had our wedding party dinner and the private room space was perfect. It had just enough room for everyone to move around and enjoy the party. The environment gave a vintage/classy yet casual feel to it. We were able to bring in our own catering and purchased drinks from their bar if we wanted. The location sits it a hidden industrial plaza but that is exactly fine because it doesn't have heavy traffic coming in and out of the area. I yelped this spot, as it was close to the tulip farm (Burnside Farms). I am SO glad we stopped in. It wasn't busy when we first got there around 2:30, so we felt like we got the VIP treatment from the get go! We were greeted and seated by Idil, and then she gave us a thorough rundown. Since it's considered an ABC establishment, you can only order 3 oz per person, per day, but lemme tell you- three cocktails is all you'll need! My girlfriend only got two. I got two drinks off the menu, and then Idil suggested making her own concoction for my third, which was perfect. While they don't sell food per se, they do sell hummus with pretzels & a meat/cheese tray. We did get the hummus & pretzels, and were very happy campers. read more

I went to Manassas for ice cream but wanted check out other places in the area and while researching distilleries, KO Distilling appeared. I was not familiar with it, or their Bare Knuckle brand, but it's highly rated and with great reason. The entire experience is fantastic and all masking, distancing, and hygiene protocols are followed. The tasting room is warm and welcoming and there is outside seating as well. Greg, a Certified Bourbon Steward, was my tasting guide (no tours at this time) and he was fantastic. He's funny and amazingly knowledgeable. I've done distillery tours and tastings before but learned more with Greg than I had at the others combined. I highly recommend booking your tasting with Greg. You can also book through OpenTable, instead of calling, which is nice. I also appreciated that as a solo taster, I was made to feel quite comfortable. When I visited, KO Distilling accepted credit cards, but you can only tip in cash, so be sure to bring some (no app tipping either--I asked about Venmo). I did the four spirit tasting and tasted the barrel-finished gin, rye, bourbon, and single barrel bourbon. I didn't care for the gin, which surprised me, as I thought I would love the aged flavor, and I'm a huge gin fan. The rye and bourbon were both great; the single barrel bourbon is outstanding. It's smooth, caramel-y, and a bit smokey and cinnamon-y. You can also taste cocktails as well. I'm really mad at myself for not buying the bourbon, as I thought I'd be back in a few weeks, but that has not yet happened. However, I'm still planning to return shortly. This is a really nice local distillery which offers both distillery tours and tasting or just cocktails and snacks. My group decided to go with the cocktails and snacks so we ordered up a flight of cocktails each. Each cocktail comes with a shot glass taster of the spirit used to make it so that you can try them neat as well which I thought was a really nice touch. My favorite was the hot spiced cider. The cocktails on offer rotate with the seasons so since it was wintery and chilly several warm cocktails were available and the fireplace was roaring adding to the overall warmth and cheer. The distillery is small so it's best to book a table in advance especially if you have a larger group. Snacks and drinks are fairly priced and service is personable and quick. The boxing theme runs throughout and they have some nice merchandise displays. Overall just a very pleasant way to pass a chilly afternoon with friends. read more

This distillery is fantastic! It was my first ever visit to a distillery, and I didn't really know what to expect. I bought a Groupon for a tour for four people plus shot glasses. My group was looking for something different to do, so we said why not?!! When you first walk in, the decor is spot on. It has an industrial/rustic chic thing going on with lots of leather and wood furniture pieces. We started our tour with Ed who was unassumingly funny! You can tell he's done his research and is super knowledgeable. Apparently, he also does wine tours at local wineries and has a bit of a fan base that follows him around. After touring the facilities and learning about the distilling process, we went to do the tastings. The staff in the tasting room were also friendly and accomodating. My group was only interested in trying the whiskeys, so I can't speak on the gin but have heard it is good. We liked the Bare Knuckle American wheat whiskey, so purchased a bottle of that to go. I would highly recommend a visit here even if distilleries don't particularly interest you. The staff, ambiance, and drinks were awesome! read more

Made a trip to Kentucky, and wanted to take Virginia's best bourbon. The local ABC store recommend KO Distiller's Reserve. A high price for me, but it was a gift, and wanted to give the best Virginia had to offer! My brother in law gives tours of all of the distilleries in Kentucky. So I really wanted to impress him. Well, dissapointed! Initial taste wasn't bad, but more of am alcohol taste, instead of charged oak. And the after taste was oily !? To the point of being unpleasant. I won't be spending $70 plus for an unknown to me again. read more

Great cocktail tasting with fun miniature flights. My fiancee went with the straight neat tasting, while I chose the more adventurous mini cocktail flight. Instead of having the difficulty of choosing only a couple of cocktails from a long list, I really like how KO offers a tasting of its gin, moonshine, bourbon, rye, and straight whiskey with accompanying juices (i love the homemade blackberry juice!). It's nice to not have to wrestle on which drink to get - you get to try them all! It's nice to get a taste of the spirit neat and then try it with a juice for a balanced flavor. Although I enjoyed the spirits, the homemade juices really stood out to me and complemented the spirits. My favorites were the pear chai lemonade with barrel finished gin, homemade blackberry juice with gin, honey ginger ale with rye whiskey, and pear shrub apple cider with bourbon whiskey. The tartness and sweetness of the juices provided great flavor to the spirits. I wasn't a big fan of the Arnold Palmer and regular lemonade, they were a bit too sweet for me. In addition to the variety of juices in the tasting, I really enjoyed how the tasting was done at my own pace. The bartender kindly brought over 2 drinks at a time to the sofa and explained each one without rushing us through. As my fiancee polished off a bottle of the Bare Knuckle bourbon, will be back to get another bottle and try out more craft cocktails! read more

My boyfriend and I had a Groupon* to visit this distillery. The deal included a tour, but the tour was lackluster. It was very fast and surface-level, and it wasn't with one of the distillers/owners like tours frequently feature. But the bar area is very cozy, the spirits/cocktails themselves are very good, and our bartender was very friendly and helpful. I wish the bottles of spirits weren't as expensive; maybe I would have bought one! *Don't get the Groupon! We figured the deal was for a tour, tasting, and shot glasses, since that is how the Groupons work for many other distilleries (check out two of them in Frederick, MD). BUT this Groupon is only for the tour and glasses, NOT the tasting. But the tasting is the whole point of visiting a distillery! So you'll only end up saving $6 with the deal for two, plus spending ~$40 on the actual tasting/cocktails. read more

What can I saw, other than WOW! When my friend said he wanted to try a distillery in Manassas, I was a bit skeptical. I came to Yelp and of course saw that KO had great reviews and it piqued my interest for sure. We both had a Wednesday off, and knew that would be a good time to drop in since it wouldn't be busy. We arrived at 1:15 PM and were quickly greeted by Greg and the staff. The storefront is quaint, with a handful of tables, a fireplace and some retail items. Upon being seated, we were greeted with a bag of pretzels and some ginger ale as a palette cleanser (I later found out you are permitted to bring your own snacks, but they do have a few reasonable priced items on their menu as well). Greg gave us the gambit of that tasting options - all spirits or cocktails. There are 3 (I believe) different types of each tastings, all in accordance with ABC regulations on limitations on consumption, which is 3 oz. per person. My friend opted for their three/one tasting, which included one cocktail and 3 whiskey samples. Now I'm not much of a whiskey drinker so I can't comment on the quality of each, but he is, and really liked them all; while I liked their scent! Greg was nice enough to give a really thorough background on each of the samples and the best ways to sip. I opted for one of the cocktail tastings, which included 3 cocktails of my choice from their menu. I love being adventurous and getting the dealers choice, so I chose one cocktail and told Greg that he could surprise me with the rest. The first cocktail I had was called the Bull Run Mountain Dragon, which contained whiskey and grapefruit juice; the second was called Bitter Truth and was a type of gin martini, and the third (by far my favorite) was the Spiced Pear Mule. Not only were they all flavorful, they were all so well balanced, and refreshing - exactly what you want from a cocktail. I'm not sure if all of these are actually on their menu, but their staff is friendly and knowledgeable enough to make them! Needless to say, I'll be back, and can't wait to share this hidden gem with my whiskey-loving friends. Also, they have merch that reads: thirst responder. I really enjoy this local distillery! Though the exterior is very unassuming on the outside, the inside has a great ambiance where you can chat with friends and sampling a flight a whiskey. I will say that the real winners are their cocktails. I absolutely adore them! Bold, unique flavors that are totally yummy that still pack a bit of a hit! The friends I took for whiskey flights couldn't really handle whiskey in general, but they loved their cocktails (which are well competitively priced! Where do I even begin? Service: Peter did our guided tour which lasted about 45 minutes. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and courteous. He could answer any questions you threw his way about "spirits". His palate is super refined and it was really nice to learn from him. The tour beings inside w/ a painting a GMU art student completed (Go Mason, GO!) then ends w/ 2 guys adding stickers to the bottles (yes, it's done by hand). I joked w/ them about how enthused they looked doing this. Cleanliness: The distillery just opened a year ago (Sept. 17th is their anniversary party), so the place was spotless. The bathroom had JR Watkins soap and Scentsy wax melts, I mean COME ON! What woman helped them do this?! Sheesh! It was clean in there! Peter washed his hands just about every time he poured us a new drink and every thing was laid out neatly. He was a really good host. I haven't had service like that in ages. Tastings: I cringe at the taste of plain liquor, so the boo did the straight up tasting which was $8 and I did the cocktail tasting $12. Each came w/ 0.5 oz of 4 different spirits. Peter did a bang up job of mixing and combining the flavors. I highly doubt that I'll even be able to remake his concoctions even w/ the recipes he gave us. Thank goodness, I can come back and simply have cocktails thanks to them having their liquor license. Notes: People can rent the space out, it holds 88 people and you can bring in a caterer. No minimum amount of hours for renting. Parking is ample as its in an industrial neighborhood (in case all that fire hazardous stuff blows up). You can buy however many bottles/cases of liquor you would like and they also sale top-notch mixers. They sale miniature barrels for you to be able to age your own drinks. Each month in the small barrel= 1 year in their standard size barrels. This would be so cute at a party. We walked away paying about $52 thanks to our tours being free because of a coupon they have on their site right now & a bottle of their $29.99 whisky. I'll be back for those drinks. read more

KO Distilling has been on my "want to visit" list for quite some time now. I made my way over last Sunday - it was another rainy day - perfect for craft alcohol exploration! Their hours on Sundays are 1:00 - 4:00 pm. I arrived at 12:50 pm and they let me in. I opted to do the tour (I was the only customer at that moment). So I got a one-on-one tour with Ed - who gave me a really nice overview of their processes, operations, and such. I very much enjoyed the tour. Afterward, I sidled up to the bar and proceeded to taste their white whiskey and their two Battle Standard Gins: Navy Strength (114 proof) and Standard Strength (90 proof). Both are nice gins, but I preferred the flavor profile of the Standard Strength Gin. Would work well in a Gin Martini - I want to see how it fares in a Vesper Martini. I'm not a fan of White Whiskeys - but I don't have anything negative to state about it. KO has a lot of barrels of whiskey aging in the back, but it will be some time before it's ready to release for sale to the public. I purchased two bottles - one each of their two Gins. The tasting area is nicely appointed, lots of seating, and it feels very cozy. The staff who were working that day were all very nice! I visited KO and MurLarkey back to back; it was quite a day for drinking spirits! I'm more into whisky, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy my visit to KO. But for now, this is definitely a place for gin drinkers. KO is very new, only opening in Sep 2015. Right now they are only serving 3 items; two gins (actually the same gin but at different proofs) and a white whisky. But fear not, as they have more options on the way. I suspect in another year they will have quite an assortment. You can have a sampling of each straight up, or have them in a mixed drink (if you choose the mixed option, they split up the servings so you get 6 small tastes). These mixed drinks saved the day, since I can't do gin straight. The "Battle Standard" Navy Strength is 114 proof; one wiff is all you need. Fortunately they gave me some club soda and the rest went down more smoothly. The "Battle Standard" Standard Strength is 90 proof, and was my favorite of the bunch. Last was the Virginia Moon white whisky. Nice nose, but I simply don't care for white whiskeys. read more

This place was awesome! I purchased a Groupon for 4 people that included a tour and shot glasses. We arrived on a Saturday around 4pm and the place was not busy at all. There was another couple at the bar and a few others wondering around towards the back of the room. We decided to start out with the tasting and then do the tour, since a tour was already taking place. We bellied up to the bar and got our drink on! The ladies choose the cocktail tasting, which is the alcohol combined with different mixers, while the men decided to do the straight up tasting - liquor only! Every single drink and shot was delicious! All the mixers were hand crafted and absolutely no cheap cranberry juice, soda or watered down fruit juices. The bar tenders were generous with the pours and did not skimp on the samples! Although two of us got the cocktail tasting, we had asked the bartender to pour the liquor in a separate shot glass to taste first, then pour the remaining into the mixer that was selected for that drink. This way we could taste the liquor first to get the full experience of their product. The men ended up doing the tour, while us ladies sat at the bar and chatted and dug into some bar snacks; oyster crackers and pretzels.
