I love the ramen here. I have tried multiple ramens/bases and each one has a wonderful flavor. My favorite is the Shacho Ramen with spicy miso level 10. The broth is amazing and that level of Spice is just right for me. I also like the garlic bomb and wonton ramen. The Shoya broth is also awesome. The price point is great too in comparison to other places that are nearby. I'm always happy when I make it over that way because I know I'm getting a tasty filling meal for a great price. read more

After a long trip out of the country, I was craving some Asian comfort food. Nothing sends a warmer welcome more than a big bowl of ramen. Parking: Plenty of parking available. The ramen joint is located in a strip mall and shares it's parking with the plaza. Service: Our waiter was super friendly and nice. She took the time to answer any questions I had while ordering. Our party took a while to decide, but she was very patient. Upon ordering, I wanted a shoyu based broth, but I also wanted the spicy miso for the kick. She explained that I can get spicy shoyu. I quickly opted for that as soon as she informed me. They went and checked up on us regularly and refilled our waters often. Food: The garlic bomb tonkotsu seems to be their most popular item so that was an easy choice. As I mentioned earlier, I opted for the medium spicy shoyu as my base. Oh em gee, the broth was packed with umami and so darn flavorful. There were a lot of strong flavors working together, but it worked really well. My mouth is water as I recall consuming this bowl. The noodles were textured and crinkly; fantastic for grabbing up the flavorful broth. The green onion shoots added a nice texture change to the bowl. We also ordered chicken karaage. It was good, but nothing special. I would order it again if a friend wanted to share it. Verdict: I'd definitely come back if I was craving garlic umami. read more

The Koryu ramen is pretty good and soup is flavorful. I have to say their spicy levels do pack a punch which is good for my parents who love spicy. I tried the tsukemen. At first it tasted good but as you gradually eat more and more you can really taste the pork fat in the "dipping" broth they have. The broth itself is really salty too. The tsukemen only comes with a lot of noodles and a fee bamboo shoots with two pieces of seaweed. Not bad if you want a simple meal but I think I will stick with the other ramens. The fried garlics in the soup do make it more fragrant. Overall the ramen is pretty good, we would come back again. Ordering takeout and picking up is a pretty quick and easy process as well. I got to try out Ko-Ryu thanks to a groupon that I purchased. Dining here, I didn't realize that it was the sister restaurant of Ko-Ryu that is on Crenshaw. As others have stated this Ko-Ryu Ramen Grill is the location of the old Golden Camel Mongolian BBQ. Walking in though, one would not realize it because the whole place has been revamped and looks so much cleaner and nicer! Diners still have the option of getting Mongolian BBQ but now also have the option of getting ramen too. The ramen menu has various ramens. You can choose from a miso base, shoyu base or spicy miso base. Aside from the set ramen offerings, one can make a custom ramen. Ramen prices vary in price from $8.95 to $9.50. For my trip here, I chose to get the fried chicken ramen. It is basically ramen with some karaage. I've always been a fan of karaage and was looking forward to seeing their version of it here. When my ramen came out, there were two things I noticed right away. One was the ramen soup base did not fill the whole bowl and two the size of the karaage. For this dish they served the karaage on the side. The fried chicken pieces were pretty small. I'm used to seeing big tender pieces of karaage but their version here was bit more like popcorn chicken. There seemed to be more fried chicken skin versus chicken itself. The soup base I got was miso and i found the soup to be a bit salty. It turned out good perhaps that they didn't fill the whole ramen bowl because I ended up leaving some of the soup and stuck with just eating the noodles because of the saltiness. The karaage also could have been a bit better. Aside from being like popcorn chicken in size, they seem to have overcooked the little pieces as well. I think it's great that the former Mongolian BBQ place now has more options for customers to choose from since they now offer up ramen. The groupon was a good way to try this place out. read more

Torrance Food Crawl #54 You have two main choices when you order, Mongolian, where you fill up a bowl with noodles & stuff that gets warmed in a wok, or Ramen, where you order a ramen. I went with the Ramen, but from where I sat I could see people filling up their Mongolian bowls and some of them testing the laws of physics to find out how much they could pile up into one bowl. The Ramen menu here seems to be the same as the Ko Ryu further down on Crenshaw and overall my experience here is similar to that of the other location. The Garlic Bomb Ramen with spicy Misu was my choice this time. The misu broth had a nice body and taste that was the best part of the bowl. The noodles were average and could have been softer to my taste. The pork and other fillings were neither exciting nor detracting, just average, and good. I'm one of those people who wants garlic dishes to taste like garlic and I've almost never had a restaurant serve a dish with too much garlic and here I had the same experience, there is a garlic taste but not that strong. I also tried a side of Pork Shumai (dumpling). The pork filling was very good and two dumplings were a nice accompaniment to the ramen. read more

RAMEN, if you like it then you'll LOVE this place. A coworker was sitting in the lunchroom which carried an aroma that render an immediate inquiry as to what she was consuming. GARLIC BOMB the aroma and the flavor of this particular ramen is amazing. The deep fried garlic and deep fried green onions and chashu pork are the finishing touches on the flavor. My coworker has always ordered it for pick up. As of recently I decided to dine in with my girls. They LOVED it! I ordered vegetarian ramen and my partner ordered garlic ramen, we both were disappointed with the taste, it made us nauseous almost immediately. Not many food places in this plaza but glad I have a ramen place that is down the street if I ever crave ramen. I've been to the original location on Crenshaw at the Torrance crossroads and I think they are similar. I got the shacho ramen. It's broth is so rich making me full halfway and I got it mildly spicy. I also tried the broth of the garlic bomb and that was also good. Everything was good but the noodles texture. I felt it was a little bit over cooked. The flavored egg was perfectly cooked where the yolk was very soft. Check in for the 2 free toppings. The gyoza looked over cooked being a little bit too brown. Overall it satisfied my ramen craving on these cold so cal nights. Lol cold is in the 60's for me. They were very nice but you will need to flag them down if you need anything. This place is awesome, the "mother" store of the location on Crenshaw. This is the original home of the Golden Camel Mongolian BBQ where many loyal patrons have come for over 20 years. It's back now and better than ever. The original owner sold it a few years and it went downhill temporarily, but he has since bought the place back. It's had a mini-extreme makeover and now serves both the Mongolian BBQ or Japanese noodles which are very decent by the way. Tip: for the Mongolian BBQ, use the wax paper to press the meat down or the sauces will run all over the bowl. This is a great place to go to when you can't decide on what to have. Dinner is a great value as Mongolian BBQ is AYCE. The service from the lesser experienced (and maybe some language barriers) younger staff needs some gentle guidance from the original owner, but overall, our experience here is always great. read more

Dine50/FALL2016: Day 5. Ko-Ryu Spicy Ramen (Level 1) What a weird coincidence! I had this same exact bowl on Day 5 of Dine50 campaign earlier this year! Plenty of seats available for an early Monday night dinner. My server was well-informed of the Dine50 campaign. As always, I ordered that extra side of egg. It's just as good as I remembered it. Loved the chasu - so tender and almost melt-in-your mouth! The green onions emitted a really nice aroma that put a nice touch to the broth. Broth, at level 1, was just the right level of heat. Soft boiled eggs were perfect. Still a little too much bean sprouts for my taste, but, no big deal. I was also greeted by the owner/manager with that infectious smile. That's always a plus. One boo-boo I did, though, was forget to check in: I could have gotten 2 FREE TOPPINGS! Boo on me... I gotta remember this for next time! Plenty of customers came in not too long after. Service was much better this time around - didn't have to wait too TOO long to put in my order or to get the check. I did not think this ramen joint was half-bad...the food was not knock-your-socks-off good, nor was there anything that screamed stay away. We were craving ramen, didn't want to drive too far, and thought we could try a new place. It was easy to find, there was tons of parking, the prices were pretty reasonable, and the service...it was ok...not good, just ok. I had a spicy miso ramen with added chicken dumplings. I got spicy level 3 and it was flavorful and tolerable without being too hot. My lady go a basic ramen with hard boiled egg. She does not like to order stuff too spicy then regret it, but she ended up adding some of my broth to hers because the basic is just a salty pork broth.
