My relationship with Ko Sushi is "It's Complicated." On one hand, there are items on the menu I really like: their baked scallop appetizer is amazing. The Red Dragon roll is delicious. I found the Ko House roll really interesting. Both of these rolls had interesting plays on texture, were easy to eat, visually pretty. There was enough heat to enhance the flavor but it never overpowered the fish - which had a good texture and good flavor on its own. On the other, the Sweet Heart roll was the single most unappetizing sushi roll that I've ever had in my life. It's the embodiment of everything that, for me, is "bad sushi." It was poorly arranged (visually pretty, yes, but no real wrapper) which made it hard to eat. I wish I hadn't bothered making the effort, because I found it suspiciously fishy in the way that low quality crab or lobster often is. The flavors fell flat, the texture was one-note, and the overwhelming fishiness was enough for me to only eat one piece. My party and I were the only people in the restaurant. We had very slow service. We actually got up with our check because no one was checking in on us. Were we supposed to? Maybe? Maybe not? Our server was largely absent. Overall, I'll probably give Ko's another try. It's close and convenient. The rolls are creative, and the presentation was pretty and inviting. But "it's complicated" and I'm a little leery of trying something with crab or lobster in it again. read more

We went to this place before a movie, this was our 2nd time here. I think the service and food has gone down a little from what I remember. It took them a little while to take our order, we ordered a few sushi rolls and the hibachi. The sushi was ok and the hibachi was ok too. Nothing very special. Upon letting the server know she came back with a response from the manager. The OWNER stated that the best she could was offer 15 percent off. Why would I pay for a dish that wasn't satisfying at all? It was very insulting to even offer that. I told the server that I will pay for everything but that dish! We ordered sushi rolls, crab Rangoon, and even steak! So I'm very insulted!! The last time I was here I didn't receive such poor service. We have been there twice during the lunch hour-all you can eat sushi for $20. A great price. I was happy with the service, she may not give recommendations or hold a type of greet full conversation but she is polite, quick and was attentive to our drinks. Absolutely the best sushi and vegetable fried rice I've ever had. Everything tastes so fresh. You can tell the vegetables are fresh and not frozen. My friend said he came here all the time, so I decided to try it. It has a great atmosphere, the the waiters and chefs are so nice, and the food was amazing! My wife and I visit Ko about once a month, and we've been pleased every time. The staff is attentive, and the sushi is excellent in both taste and presentation. I usually stick to the "Sushi Regular" - a spicy tuna roll and seven pieces of nigiri - and my wife sticks to the vegetarian rolls like the sweet potato and avocado. I've also ordered from their teriyaki and grill menus, and it's delicious. Decent wine and saki menu to boot. If your answer is yes, then come on down to Ko Sushi and let the Sushi Chef prepare your raw sushi without washing his hands... eww, right? Restaurant reviews are often subjective and there are things about which people can disagree however, I'm sure the importance of hand-washing is not one of them. I took my son there a couple of weeks ago on a week night. When we pulled up the sushi chef who I recognized from previous visits, was sitting outside on the curb smoking and playing around on his phone. I didn't think much of it at the time.... We went inside, and I was surprised that the was no other sushi chef behind the sushi bar because the restaurant was a little busy and several people where just putting in their orders. The waitress had just taken our order when I saw the Sushi chef who was outside, run in, go directly to the sushi station and start to prep food. Here's food for thought (no pun intended) He is preparing your raw, ready to eat food just after he touched the door handle that 1000's of people touch, he was on his cell phone (according to the web each square inch of your cell phone contains roughly 25,000 germs, making it one of the filthiest things you come in contact with daily) Here's another thought, cell phones are 18x dirtier than a public toilet. Still want to eat that freshly prepared sushi he just made for you? We were lucky to be sitting where we were or else I would not have seen him do that. When I told the waitress to cancel my order and why I was cancelling my order, she just looked confused. I've been to this restaurant quite a few times. I admittedly I have felt ill after eating there a couple of times but always chalked it up to food not agreeing with me. Now, I'm thinking it may have been unsanitary food preparation. My family and I recently went to Ko Sushi in Bolingbrook to try it out. We love sushi, and have tried out a few places in Naperville and the surrounding area. We really liked Ko Sushi and were impressed with the decor, service, and the food. We ordered Tempura and sushi and thought all was fresh and of good quality. I ordered hot tea and was served an interesting green tea with brown rice. While it is a little pricier than some places in the neighborhood, I thought it was reasonable for a sushi restaurant. My husband and I went in for dinner on a Sunday night. The restaurant is really nicely decorated from the inside and has a cool modern vibe going. Our server was nice but the service was very slow. It seemed that they were quite understaffed as at one point there were a few finished plates of rolls just waiting to be served at the sushi bar. The sushi was pretty good, we had a few rolls and they were yummy and good sized pieces. We were even given a plate of rolls on the house. Now the not so great: My husband ordered a green curry entree. And although I knew to not have any great expectations of Thai food from a predominantly Japanese restaurant, the curry was terrible. It was orange in colour and was filled with green peppers. The plate was even decorated with slices of orange, and the curry tasted sweet and way too strongly of fish sauce. Next time, I would go back to ko sushi just for the sushi and would be pretty hesitant to try other things on their menu. Nonetheless, I'm happy to have found a decent sushi place close to our home. read more
