This is by far the best Sushi Buffet I've been to in the Valley. The prices where decent, the restaurant was very clean, and the food was great (both in taste, quality, and presentation. This place will get the job done, but dont compare it to a sushi restaurant. The sushi on the boats are basic items and there is not really much of a variety. Along with that, the pricing to order separate items/plates from the sushi chefs during non dinner time is ridiculous. 5$ on top of the 9$ bill is not worth it. First I must say that my girlfriend and I did both experience some horrible food poisoning 2 days after eating here. Even though, I hold on to the fools hope that it wasn't from this place. Sushi was good (it is a buffet so you can't expect the most amazing sushi ever) and there is a huge buffet area sure to satisfy those who don't like sushi. I absolutely loved this place. I'm tempted to go back and chance the food poisoning (tempted probably won't sadly as it was horrible, painful food poisoning). I would give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for getting sick. Since I'm a fan of sushi rolls, I knew that I wanted to come here and try some sushi buffet when I was in town for Christmas. It didn't disappoint! I loved the fact that for under $10, I could sample a ton of different rolls. I've eaten at several sushi buffets in the past, and the sushi usually isn't fresh; not the case here! Everything I had was fresh and yummy! I didn't eat much of the Chinese buffet (my sister had it a few weeks prior and didn't like it), but I did enjoy what I did have (an eggroll and cream cheese wontons). Kobe sushi buffet is the best thing that could have happened to Modesto Sushi! My husband and I had dinner on a friday night and loved it! The sushi was delicious and all the staff was absolutely delightful. Honestly, that may have been the best customer service I've had in a long time. Today was my first time ever being here. I decided to stop by for lunch and the place is very nice and clean for being a buffet. I like the small boats they have in the water floating . Lunch price is $12.50 per person . What sucks about this place is that its hard not to tip the cook if your sitting in front of him. I tip the waiter and cook and in total i wasted $ 16.50 . It seems a lot for just lunch. The service was not so great, the waiters seemed pissed off or as if they are depressed. The entire time i was there none of them smile. With the name as Kobe, one would think it would be quality stuff. Think again. First the service: as I walked in I noticed the music in the background was in Chinese. If you know about the behind-the-scenes of sushi establishments, it is common to see Chinese or Vietnamese people who are the in the back kitchen preparing the rolls so hearing Chinese music playing didn't surprised me. What did surprise me though was how inattentive these "sushi" preparers were. As I sat watching the same boats make its turn 4 times, the guys were blaintly standing in front of me having a conversation about something showing off their hands. Dont know how long I sat there waiting, even though I had put in special request for a plate of sashimi and soft shell crab, but thank goodness the waitress girl noticed my frustration and came over to check on me at the sushi bar (or perhaps she saw the 1 star rating as I was writing this review while waiting). She was kind enough to snap at them in Chinese about the orders I requested and offered a menu of their specialty rolls so I went ahead and took advantage and put in couple more request through her. It took them half an hr to give me my soft shell crabs. By then I had already finished the other 3 orders that I requested. Still hungry but reluctant to request any more specialty rolls from them by now cuz they started sweeping their area even though it wasn't till another half hr to closing and I was given my bill already when I felt like I had just started. Thought that was very unprofessional and gross sweeping the area when there are still food on the boats floating around. Bottom line, nothing looked good on the floating boats; only descent food I see are their specialty rolls but for the dinner price of $17, I'd rather have a steak dinner. The only upside about the price is that drinks were only a buck! That deserved a another star but the overall experience deterred me from giving it to them. First time, wasn't that bad. I went around 2pm Saturday, still lunch prices, $8.95 with tax and tip paid almost $12. I was seated at the sushi boat bar, which was fairly full with other patrons. Started off with some hot and sour soup, which was delicious, and with the right flavors. Then to the Chinese food buffet , nothing spectacular, tasted good, not too greasy, and all seemed pretty fresh. Now lets talk about the sushi! The boats going around the sushi bar is a treat in itself. What a selection, and if you didn't see what you liked, just ask the sushi chef behind the counter and they will make it right in front of you. Went to Kobe Sushi buffet earlier this year. Quality sushi with the mixture of Chinese food. The service is quality and the atmosphere is nice and clean. Makes for a pleasant dining experience. I recommend the Volcano Roll which is a specialty sushi roll which has that crunch to it. Real good stuff. There may be other quality sushi buffets however; if you're from this area this one is close to the level of the other sushi restaurants in the area. read more

The sushi boats are gross, they have mold growing on them. the flags above you have dust that falls on you if they are touched. The sushi chefs don't want to be there are not very approachable. Everything was all good, food & seafood was great, and then we found a nasty black hair cooked in the Coco Shrimp. I told one of the workers there and she just scooped it from the tray, threw it away, put the serving spoon back in the tray, and went back to cleaning tables. Yay! Buttfet! Finnally there is a sushi buttfet at Modesto, I love sushi! I went there with my wife and my friends, we went there at dinner. My wife dont like to eat raw fish, but I told her there was a lot more other stuff she can eat. So we got a menu, and ordered a volcano roll, and we both loved it! It is awesome! I'm actually extremely impressed with this place. I didn't think that I would be however I am. The selection of food I was very impressed with being that it is a sushi place they had other things for example they had orange chicken they had a small salad bar that they need to upgrade LOL they had broccoli and beef, they had ice cream and pudding and fruit. They even had where you can take your items and they fry it right in front of you. I love the sushi boats. The only thing that I didn't like about the sushi boats was the fact that 98% of them had crab in them and I like spicy tuna roll spicy salmon roll spicy California rolls regular California rolls Etc. What I also loved about the place was the fact that it's very very spacious. Me being in a wheelchair a lot of restaurants that I do go to they don't have enough space and when you go and get the all-you-can-eat stuff it's very very spacers for me and like 3 other wheelchairs Plus Able Body people to be in. Also another thing that I love which a lot of restaurants need to start doing is for people like me who are in wheelchairs we like to sit at the bar as well, and the bar was low enough for me to sit at it wasn't any steps it was just a bar table wheelchair height and I loved it. I will be going back again can't wait to eat there some more. Oh before I end it, I am not sure if this is every all you can eat restaurant now or if it's just starting with this one that they charge you for what you don't eat. They never tell you how much they charge you but they do charge you. And if I'm trying a restaurant for the first time and I don't like something I'm not going to force eat it. That's why I like paying my price at the door before I go get in and sit down. But that's what I did not like about them which is why I gave them three out of five stars. read more
