Nevermind the location, those who know Motown knows that it's not a bougie location, but the food is better than any same cousine buffet in the valley. Food poisoning! After one visit I knew it was food poisoning waiting to happen! Even though they are very nice and a good selection with reasonable price if you can't keep your food warm/hot it's a Petri dish waiting to bloom! The food is literally cold with steam coming from beneath the trays. I don't get it. My son got extremely sick (food poisoning) from the sushi etc, and he has a cast iron stomach. When I first went to Grand buffet I went with my family and my aunt that came over. We have never been there so we were excited. We went there and the buffet was a little pricey. But when we started the first thing that caught my eye was the crawfish which was only available on the dinner menu along with other dishes. When in with my husband was getting food when a lady tapped my shoulder and told me to come look . A cockroach was walking by the fruit next to the oranges jello area . I would've taken a picture but I left my phone in the table. The lady who called me over told the worker who was cleaning up the area where the food is . My Son Loves Seafood . He says let's find a Buffett with Crab . He found the Grand Buffett . We walked in very clean and open restaurant. Ordered a Ice Tea, the wait staff kept full for me :) and they took our plates away promptly . My Son was very happy with the Crab and seafood selection and freshness. We called ahead to see when the crab would be available- after 3:30 pm . They have lots to choose from in Asian cuisine - Solid sushi rolls. Pizza for the kids. And Thrifty Brand Ice Cream! Food was good, price was reasonable, and the ambiance is pure 1999 Chinese buffet. The staff was on point refilling items and everyone was happy with the selection. The seafood quality was questionable but the poultry and desert options swayed the wife and kids back in to positive pandas. Me and my daughter love this place. We come for lunch often. Went tonight for dinner for the first time and it was good. More variety of food. Everything was fresh and hot. Good price for the amount of food but they do seem to rush you a bit if you are there for too long but other than that it's definitely worth the stop. It's decent ambiance. Came here for a family outing like we do every now and then. They have good food but after what was seen today I dont think we will be coming back. So after eating the other half went up to go get ice cream that we wanted while he got up there he saw a kid up there with his hands all inside getting ice cream and the kid was sneezing and coughing at the same time and using his hands getting ice cream out. DO NOT EAT HERE !!!!!! We had a party of 10 and they automatically inputted 10% of the total which came out to be a $22 tip so I went to the front and said to remove that because I put the tip I want . As it should be everywhere OPTIONAL to do so. so the lady argued back no we have to charge you , everywhere is the same , you have to pay tip. So I said no I don't have to , I tip what I want so she pointed to the wall and in small writing it says a party of 4 and more 10% tip will be added on. So of course it's my fault for not reading but however it shouldn't be an automatic requirement. To add to that I had a receipt for 10 ppl but I was paying my own for 3 so she had to redo it however that original receipt just said the total and the tip was blank AFTER redoing it she had given me two different receipts and it showed on that receipt the tip that was entered. My point is one receipt shows the tip there automatically inputting and the other shows it blank so in reality that's how there scamming people without knowing a tip is already in the bill . I don't agree with this at all. I will never ever eat here again and I hope you read my message and don't eat here as well. The food is consistent and there are many options like sushi, fried chicken, chow mein, jello, pudding, etc. It's usually busy but more than enough seating is available. I dont like eating anywhere where the waitress is hovering over you or constantly watching you. Last time I went I paid for a table of 3 and we each had only 2 plates and a drink when the waiter decided to bill me. I'm like wtf? I was mad inside but I took that bill to the front, paid it without tipping them. I'm very dissatisfied and this place gives me a weird vibe not to mention I came here numerous times and spent a lot of money. Food sometimes good and bad. Calamari is overcooked like rubber, chicken wings sometimes has a stinky taste to it meaning expired. Stay away from the sushi roll. One of the few Chinese buffets here in the small town of Modesto, but better than the others in the area. The place appears cleaner and the staffs seem friendlier and more attentive as they regularly come check on your table for water refills, clear plates, more napkins, etc. Plenty of parking outside. Was not not too busy but not slow either for a Sunday afternoon. Not too many selections, but for $15.99 per adult can't complain, and at least they have oysters, clams, mussels, Dungeness crabs, calamari, crawfish, and a few basic sushi items as the highlight! Modesto City is not like Vegas, Reno, or the bigger cities, so can't expect much. But if you're looking for a decent Chinese buffet for a decent price with decent selections, then this place might be what you're looking for. FUN FACT: Modesto may be a small city but it's BiG by reputation. How? The creator of Star Wars & Indiana Jones (George Lucas) and the actor Jeremy Renner both grew up in Modesto. They have sushi, salt & pepper squid, shrimp, crab, mussels, cajun seafood, fish. The orange chicken and fried chicken was pretty good but the salt and pepper squid was hard. Called on a Friday afternoon inquiring about a Saturday lunch pricing for a party of 7. We were told $15.99. Saturday arrived, went down for our lunch gathering and paid the bill. After getting home we realized we were charged $21.99 not the $15.99. Called the restaurant and spoke with "Lucy" (for which she represented herself as "the Manager". Come to find out she was actually the owner.) I calmly discussed my grievance of overcharge and was told it's $21.99/all day dinner" on Weekends. I agreed with her after reviewing her price structure she described yet was told a different price the day before. I described the pricing we were given the day before yet she said "she didn't care", "I didn't answer the phone yesterday and told nobody the price all day"., as if she was the only person of 15+ staff members who answered the phone in Fridays. I simply asked for the difference or some sort of "adjustment" due to incorrect information was given. Several minutes of her putting The phone down, being told to "wait!,,just wait!". She then hung up the phone deliberately! I immediately called back to my surprise, a different employee answered the phone and asked "who the owner was", the nice girl said "LUCY"!. I explained Lucy represented herself as the manager, yet would no longer speak to me. I asked if she would like me to come down and speak in person regarding this issue and she then told the girl to "hang up the phone on him!", for which she did. Epilogue of the store is: beware of what you're being billed for! She (owner Lucy), seems to care little about customer service. I could have been writing a nice wonderful review yet she chose to care less about her customer concerns.
