Our family came to celebrate a bday lunch, the staff was extremely accommodating with last min change. They were really friendly and made us feel welcomed and comfortable. It was pretty empty since they had just opened. But it was perfect for the two toddlers. We had two chefs, both were excellent and entertained the adults and kids. This place is always really fun. You'll never be mad about waiting for your food because you're constantly entertained; if not by your own chef, than by the reactions of other people to their chefs as well! The only reason only 3 stars is because if your party doesn't fill the table, they sit strangers next to you. It's fine for this time because I took my parents for their first time and they're social so being around strangers doesn't phase them... however, if you're looking for an intimate, private experience it's not really the place to go. Also, they celebrate a lot of birthdays there and they come out with super loud drums which are obnoxious, hurt your ears, and cause you to stop talking because you can't hear anything over it. I've never liked that.... BUT some people enjoy stuff like that so it's sort of a personal problem. The food is always cooked fantastic, however! It is weird though because I feel like I always order something and get a bunch of random stuff along with what I ordered. I'm not really complaining but I find it strange. I think we saw her two three times; 1- when we sat and already had our drinks, 2- when our order was taken, 3- when the check was presented. There in that last act was a mistake made. Two cards are supplied and an explicit "split the bill" was advised. Upon return of the paid bill, we were greeted with giggles and clearly no remorse for an error; "sorry we charged the entire amount to one card" insert giggle. What the actual F@&)! I made a reservation for a party of 13 called and let them know we were running about 15 min behind they confirmed it was ok then they called me back to change my reservation to 7:30pm the first party arrives around 7pm and told them they can't wait for us we arrived around 7:15pm told us we're late that they changed it to 7pm their communication was bad. So we get there in the servers demeanor was horrible. He looked upset shaking his head. We asked for a menu and he said he cannot give us a menu because we were late. The service to me was great. The food was very delicious although I do have to mention the other parties we were seated with mentioned the food was salty. Another thing that was so and so was they add a gratuity fee even if it's just you and one other person. I guess this started happening after Covid. Went here for dinner last night for our anniversary with our 3 year old and had a really fun experience. I am highly allergic to gluten and the chef was super careful with cross contamination. Made all of my food before anyone else's. The waitress also brought me gluten free soy sauce and was very knowledgeable on what did and did not have gluten on the menu. With allergies and a toddler, we are quite the trio but I really appreciated their accommodations. Faster service; decent enough happy hour specials. -Not a lot of them, but they're good. The sushi and sashimi are usually pretty solid. We like the salmon and octopus sashimi. Miso soup is solid; and make sure to ask for the fresh ground wasabi. It's $2 per small container, but OMG is that ever LIGHT YEARS past the past BS. Always, always, always; wherever you go... Ask for the fresh ground wasabi; and Kobe's is very good. Bartenders are friendly, fast, outgoing. This was our sushi place for 17 years, but no more. We got some bad sunshine rolls for take out and the manager wouldn't credit them back. Did I mention we've been coming here for 17 years? Even prior to Covid, we could see the restaurant was going down hill. Few patrons, dirty bathrooms, kids running the restaurant, the down and outers hanging at the bar, the restaurant is dirty and needs a face lift. But we kept coming because the sushi was consistent and good. Tonight's rolls were super spicy. Like burn your mouth spicy. Highly irregular because as I mentioned, we've been eating there for 17 years. But it was the poor customer service and lack of loyalty over two bad rolls that should have been immediately credited back to our card that will primarily keep us from returning. We tried the Tempe Sushi and the baked scallop roll. The Tempe sushi comes with a shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll and chefs choice, we got 8 pieces of nigiri. It was so filling! My boyfriend and I could have just had this for dinner for the both of us. The spicy tuna roll is perfection! I've had spicier tuna but this hit the spot without making my nose runny. The nigiri consisted of 2 pieces of tuna, 2 salmon, 2 yellowtail (I think) and 2 shrimp. The salmon was so good!! It melted in my mouth like butter! Honestly, everything was amazing! The baked scallop roll was ok but I don't care much for hot rolls so I only tried one piece. My boyfriend devoured these, though. They do have pretty good COVID procedures in place, all the staff was wearing a mask, people are spaced out, seating is limited, they do not, however, enforce diners to wear a mask. Their huge parking lot is littered to the point we weren't sure they were opened, it looked abandoned. We made the mistake to go despite our first impression but did it anyways. Mistake! I had their sashimi lunch. Within 24 hours l started feeling nauseous, my intestines felt acute pains. Today, Saturday at 7am l was admitted to the ER for treatment. Diagnosis: gastroenteritis due to a food born virus. I have lost 5 lbs in 48 hours and still dropping weight. I can only hold water and Gatorade. So beware of this kitchen's food handling.
