Sashimi plate Looks better than it is.
Liz P.

I was very disappointed in this place. I brought my girlfriend here for a bday lunch and the food was not good at all. The veggie tempura was undercooked, the sashimi was stringy and the tea was disgusting. The one thing that was good was the chicken fried rice.

Love the decor!

This is the best happy hour in town! Amazing drink prices and great options for appetizers. Gyoza, handrolls, and stuffed shrimp are a must. The service is always outstanding but I've only ever sat at the bar.

We made reservations for 10 guests, about a week early. The day comes and we arrive in time, yet it takes almost 15 minutes to get seated because "the cooks were running behind." The only reason we knew that is because we asked why were we waiting, it was not a self promoted piece of information offered from the host. Regardless, we're patient and understood. Well our turn finally comes, we get seated, order drinks, then get told we have to wait again, now because the "grill has to heat up." Understandable. I should add, this is not our first time visiting. We've visited a few times before and had pretty pleasant and efficient experiences. Nevertheless, the cook finally gets to our station after about 35-40 minutes of us checking in for your reservation. The place was pretty empty when we arrived, so it was a bit quiet of a vibe initially. From our previous experiences here and at other hibachi/teppan restaurants the cook does a great job of performing some tricks, having some fun, and incorporating us. Not this time around. It was a very rushed and very mundane. Once the cook finally finished cooking, the portions seemed smaller than we recall and the food was fine. Our bill ended up being $520, which is reasonable considering the 19% gratuity was included. It was not reasonable based on the experience as a whole. I look forward to Kobe Teppan & Sushi making the necessary changes to improve the experience for other guests.

My wife and I enjoyed lunch at Kobe, a Japanese Teppanyaki and sushi restaurant located in Tempe. The restaurant is beautiful inside, we especially liked the beautiful artwork and etched glass throughout the restaurant. We chose the Teppanyaki side and made our selections awaiting our skilled chef to preform. We always enjoy the precision knife work, and the skillful artistry of chefs who prepare your meal right before your eyes. We really enjoyed the experience the Teppan-Yaki- lunch New York steak and shrimp combination with Hibachi vegetables $23.99 was delicious I added chicken fried rice for $4.00 upcharge. We plan to return to give sushi lunch a try which looks delicious as well.

The lunch sushi menu. I recommend the Sunshine Roll. Good textures and flavors.

Update one year later. It looks like Kobe is struggling because I showed up at 1:30 on a Tuesday and there was one other customer. Rough start: when I pulled my chair out, it was dirty from a previous customer. I sat at the sushi bar as usual and ordered a crab salad (Sunomomo) and a Sunshine roll with a glass of ice water. There was easy rock on the radio and Con Air on the television. Odd mix. My salad came in about 10 mins. So did the sushi chef. Watching him, I got the distinct feeling he was a chef from the kitchen who had made sushi a couple of times and was filling in. The salad was disappointing. The cucumbers were cut thick, the crab wasn't shredded and there was very little vinegar on it. The Sunshine Roll was okay. The lemon was cut very thick, the slices were utterly uneven and the rice didn't extend to the end of the roll. I didn't see my server until it was time to pay. The bill came to $23.74 plus tip. Actually, they automatically charged 19% tip Sadly, I couldn't recommend Kobe, one of my favorite restaurants, any more.

The service was 20/10, the kindest people I've ever had waiting on us in the USA…read more We came late and didn't realize the closing time. They told us to please stay and we are so welcome and they were over the top accommodating. Everything was so good. The spicy miso wasn't my favorite flavor but that is just a personal preference. They gyozas were so delicious I will come back again. When we left the people who were working, were all enjoying dinner together like a home family vibe going on. It was so cute and they were some of the most kind people I've ever come across. Definitely give this place a try

We had been craving ramen for days--it kept popping up on our social media feeds over and over…read moreagain--so we finally gave in and decided to try this spot. They offer a nice variety of Japanese dishes, but we were definitely here for the ramen. I ordered the spicy miso ramen, and it came out just right--perfectly spicy with fish cake, green onions, and all the toppings. It was delicious and hit the spot. The tonkotsu ramen had a nice creaminess to it, but it could've used a bit more depth of flavor. One thing I really liked is that you can order side appetizers along with your entrée, almost like building your own bento-style meal. We went with the deep-fried gyoza and gyudon. The gyudon was a standout--definitely five stars. The gyoza, however, was just okay for me. Breakdown:    *   Spicy miso ramen:    *   Tonkotsu ramen:    *   Gyudon:    *   Gyoza: Service was friendly, the restaurant was clean, and overall it definitely satisfied our ramen craving.

I had sky-high expectations for this place... and they absolutely crushed them!…read more My wife and I were hit with a massive sushi craving, so we decided to check out Shimogamo's Chandler location. We'd already fallen in love with their Gilbert spot on a previous date night, but this time around? We had a baby in tow. Needless to say, we weren't entirely sure what to expect. Turns out, we had nothing to worry about. We were seated quickly and greeted so warmly. Even though the only available seating was at the sushi bar, the hostess didn't blink an eye--she immediately offered a high chair, and it fit perfectly right next to us (zero complaints from me!). Our waiter was incredibly friendly, walked us through the menu beautifully, and clued us in on the big differentiator for this location: their grill. Naturally, we had to test it out. We ordered the A5 Wagyu skewers, and oh my god, they literally melted in our mouths. As for the sushi, it came out fast, and the cuts were incredibly generous. The absolute star of the show was the toro--pure, buttery bliss that dissolved instantly. We also grabbed a sashimi sampler and a few other pieces; everything was flawlessly fresh. Even the side salad was on point and--bless them--not totally drenched in dressing. The only minor skip for me was the oysters, which weren't quite my favorite, but everything else easily made up for it. If you want top-tier, melt-in-your-mouth sushi and killer grill items, this spot is a must. We will absolutely be back!
