Taking my daughter out for a victory celebration for her volleyball win. Had the teppan style because it's such a great show! We often come for lunch and get bento boxes and sushi. Everything we have had here is tasty and keeps us coming back. They have very attentive servers that keep your drinks filled and clean away your used dishes.

Great sushi! Fast service. We went there to celebrate a birthday. Very kind people working there. Variety of food selection. The menu for Sushi is huge! Waitress was nice made it such a surprise. They brought out the drums and the employees sang and recorded the birthday and offered such a wonderful macaroon ice cream dessert to make this such a special occasion for our family.

Ate the steak and salmon meal. With white rice. It came with a small salad and soup. I didn't care for the salad. But everything else was delicious. The service is great. The ambience is casual and comfortable. 7/7/25

Arrived at 7:20 PM on 12/31 for our 7:30 reservations. Seated at 7:35 but no one arrived to take a drink order until 7:55. We understood it was going to be busy, but.... Was told we would have our drinks in 2 minutes (that seemed to be his favorite thing- 2 minutes). Finally received our drinks at 8:10. The other family (family of 5) finally got up and walked out. What a shame when we had sat at our hibachi table with virtually NO attention for 45 minutes already. Shame on the management and servers who walked past us and didn't seem to see us- we must have been completely invisible. The seats were promptly replaced with 2 couples. Their drink and food orders taken immediately as they were seated and were told our chef would be with us in 10 minutes. Finally at 9:52 Victor arrived to cook our meals. When asked how many tables he had cooked for during the day he indicated we were the 12th! No wonder he forgot our sauce, no shrimp appetizer given to anyone, shrimp was very much over cooke/chewy and didn't give us the show that some of the other chefs gave. I don't completely fault him and made sure to tip him directly. Our original server put on his jacket after the replaced individuals were seated at our table. Nothing at all said to us. No introduction for his tables to another server or anything. He just left. No one checked on us. One server (Mike?) walked past our table to the one seated in the corner many, many times with not even a blink our direction. My husband and I were without drinks for 45 minutes to an hour before we finally received refills. A couple of the others at our table apparently knew the young lady who was bartender and she kept checking on them. We were never asked or offered anything additional at all. We were excited to discover this place and looked forward to future visits. We live in far East Mesa so obviously not just down the street for us. Not sure about our future with this restaurant. Very sad as they seem established in the community and have repeat customers. By the way, from the time we were SEATED to the time we paid and walked out the door- we were there 3 hours and 15 minutes. We have been to many hibachi establishments and never spent that much time even if we did not have reservations. Most of the time at this restaurant we sat at our table in awe of what was going on and talking to our table mates, not eating or even being taken care of by the servers. One of the other couples indicated they had to cancel with a friend of their that they were to meet at 10 since they also had reservations at 7:30 but were not seated until after 8:30! Very sad indeed.

This place is so good. If you love sushi go here and try. They have so many different selections and it's fresh. The service is very kind and trying. They aren't stingy with the sauce and I have been here multiple times now and still no complaints. 5 stars in my book.

Came here for dinner, and the place itself is cute and cozy. And there were plenty of parking spots as well. Ordered jalapeno popper, california roll, and forgot its name but something super spicy tuna roll and miso. Jalapeno popper was pretty good, hot and crispy! Spicy tuna roll was ok, it wasn't bad but I think it could be better in terms of freshness. I feel like their cooked food is better than fresh sashimi type, but gotta try here again! And people were friendly :)

Both hostess at the front didn't offer a wait list. Instead, we were offered a table in the back outside while everyone else was seated inside. As a Black family, the experience left us feeling unwelcome. I can't say why we were treated this way, but the interaction was extremely disappointing, we chose to dine elsewhere. Update: After my original review, the restaurant reached out to apologize for our experience. We decided to give them another chance, and I'm glad we did. Our return visit was completely different. The service was excellent, and we had the pleasure of meeting the Ashley Cook, General Manager and the owner. They made us feel genuinely welcome. Music is always on pointe and I would never change the look or ambiance of the place either. My last trip here though I had to ask about why the menu had stopped changing as often since we were one of two parties there in the middle of happy hour and there was a large framed picture of a bartender with a bunch of signed notes on the bottom of it beside me at the bar. It turns out that one of the oldest curators and bartenders of the bar and restaurant had passed from a drunk driving incident and I had not known at all! Gosh I was so disappointed in myself that I had ever complained about not having a new menu to try after that...but at the same time it was amazing to hear so many great anecdotes and to learn so much more about him and the history of the bar itself while dining this time. I had a lot of fun times at this bar - including remembering the first time I met that bartender and sharing that memory with the staff that told me their story. They also shared that they would be coming out with a new menu very soon and some of the new items and ideas that would be rolling out so I am also very excited to go back! New food menu tomorrow too?! What?! I was almost tempted to back today to get more of their amazing dishes from the main menu!! Thank you Cat for the amazing hospitality! I learned so much about Gaea in one afternoon too :D Love it. I didn't really try to feel the ambiance for the visit. I ordered a few basic and "safe" (but would consider as staple) dishes to test out this place: tempura, spicy tuna roll, rainbow roll, and chicken Yakisoba. Overall, yes, they all hit the standard. They are all good, but not great. Honestly, it will become the go-to 4th place and I would go back if my top 3 are all not available/long wait/close for the day. Lastly, the tempura is the most disappointing of all with portion size. So order 2 plates if you like veggies more than shrimps.

She was super attentive too and kept refilling our drinks throughout the meal. We tried a mix of specialty rolls and more basic rolls. Most of the specialty rolls were around $15 each, while the basic rolls were under $10. The spicy tuna rolls were especially good for the price because they were cheap, but still came out huge. Overall the portions were very generous and the prices weren't bad at all. I got the Hell Fire roll and it definitely lived up to the name. I handle spicy food really well and even for me this thing was extremely spicy. It was almost painfully hot, but honestly I kind of enjoyed the challenge, It was also really good besides just being spicy, so I'd definitely get it again. The inside also had a cool vibe with all the colorful lighting and it wasn't too busy when we went which was nice. Most of our sushi came out almost immediately. The fried rolls understandably took a little longer since they had to be made fresh. My only small complaint is I wish everything would of came out closer to the same time, because some of us already had food while we were still waiting on the fried rolls. Overall, really good food, huge portions, fair prices and great service, definitely a spot I'd come back to.

The menu was 5 courses prix fixe designed by the head chef for this group. The restaurant was closed as a private event. Service was excellent, the food was also so delicious, and cocktails were great too. Shimogamo is one of the few Japanese restaurants in the valley that remind me of eating Japanese food in Japan. It's well prepared, fresh, and high quality. The cocktails are creative and nods to Japan with delicate flavors and unique ingredients. Our courses were: started with the truffle amberjack which is a flavor bomb, very rich and truffle forward. Which I don't always enjoy but when paired with amberjack, it was great. 2nd course was a nigiri plate- 4 choices: sea bream (which I love), a fancy type salmon, toro, and couple pieces of the wagyu roll. Next onto a darn near perfect crab croquet that was creamy with big pieces of crab and perfectly fried, and main course was K4 ranch Wagyu from Prescott. Very buttery and delicious. We ended with a matcha basque cheesecake. The chefs talked about the food, answered questions, and talked about their background. It was an enjoyable dinner and we will be back for the "oysters and cocktails" hour they were promoting. I love both of those things.
