I read the reviews for Kochix and saw that a lot of people loved it, but I still didn't want to keep my expectations too high. However, I am happy to report that I had nothing to worry about, because these wings were amazing. I've tried all 3 of the sauces, and although I'm partial to the soy garlic, you can't go wrong with any choice. The hot honey spicy definitely has a kick but won't burn your mouth. The wings are bigger than your average wings, are fried and sauced to perfection, and the meat is juicy. Not a lot of space inside, which makes this much more of a delivery or take out spot. This isn't your typical Bon chon Restaraunt. Ordered the 3W 2D combo with fries and it was definitely filling. The drumsticks are larger than I expected. I got the soy garlic and honey flavors and both were rich and decadent on the wings/drumstick. I like how this is not a typical fast food chain Restaraunt and the establishment gives off a nice personal ambience to it. Overall, if you're in DC and want some good korean fried chicken, I would recommend this place. Worth a stop. read more

Decided to stop by here for lunch the other day based off the reviews here on Yelp. The prices were reasonable, it's a little mom+pop hole the wall type and I love supporting small businesses. First off, I assumed that there would be more seating in here but there was only 3 bar stools which were taken already so we had to eat in our car which is why I knocked out a star. The chicken was good - we ordered the 16 wings soy garlic but ended up getting a combo of wings/drumsticks but whatever it was very flavorful. The fries were good too. Finally a place I can get good Korean Fried Chicken without using my car. Small little carryout shop run by a nice old Korean couple. Please note this is not a restaurant, you simply take your food and go. I didn't meet the man but the woman was very sweet. To add to their ambiance they have an old school Ipod on a docking station that was blowing out random music while I waited. Chicken wings were damn good and you don't have to wait 30 minutes for them to be done. I only had the soy garlic but the flavor was fantastic and the chicken cooked perfectly. Wings were crispy and portion size was very large. I had ten wings but could only finish half of them and saved the rest for later. They are just as good after a quick go in the microwave. I also sampled the fries, not as good as the chicken but still cooked well and decent flavor. I could definitely see myself making a return visit as I can basically walk to this place if I really felt up to it and it saves me from burning my gas. read more

This is not a sit down restaurant. Pick up your wings and leave. I came to this place with a friend on a suggestion from someone else and I'm so glad I did. I love southern fried chicken, it's very comforting but Korean fried chicken is just on another level that you have to try! Although at first I was slightly put off because there was only two benches for seating and it was a small place, I quickly got over it once I tried the things. Be advised they have three flavors. We got two of the flavors and they were both fantastic, one hot, the other not. The hot flavored wings weren't super spicy to me, just a slight tingle which was great. This mix of the sweetness with the hot flavor and crunch at the end was glorious! My friend and I got 20 wings and scarfed 10 down I record time! I want to say that I love the soy garlic wings here. Regretfully, I decided to try their Old Bay Honey wings. first of all, they must have poured an entire container of Old Bay seasoning on these wings. Also, there was no hint of honey. These wings were entirely inedible, unless you enjoy eating Old Bay seasoning from the jar. Gross! I order Old Bay Honey Wings from other places and there is a proper ratio of Old Bay and Honey, which is delicious, but not at Kochix. I decided to play the Asian card and got my coworkers to come to KoChix to get some Korean wings. Having had some delicious ones in NYC, and too lazy to drive to VA, KoChix was close and Yelp reviews were postiive - so let's do it! Well, it looks like I just got my Asian card suspended. Both the drums and wings were huge, though suspiciously on steroids. The soy garlic covering and the outside crust were delicious. But out of 3 wings and 2 drums, 3 of them had pink/red on the inside (Yelp deleted the picture). I normally don't mind a little bit as I'm an animal, but they were a bit too red for my appetite. (Side note, don't look up this Youtube video of a skinny woman finishing a 72 oz steak in 3 min *before* you start eating). I also got the Bibimbap, one of my favorite Korean staple food. But the egg was half cooked (there's no stone bowl to get it to cook), and there's no meat (see pic). Maybe I missed it, but isn't there typically beef in Bibimbap? I got my Asian card suspended for suggesting KoChix, so what do I know about Asian food. (I did notice they have a Bulgogi Bap...so maybe I ordered the wrong one?) If you do plan on checking it out, parking isn't the most convenient. There's a permit for area #5 nearby, a liquor store parking lot you can try, or a gas station lot across the street. We had been excited to order takeout from here for a while and finally did it tonight. Total disaster. I ordered and paid online at 4:30pm for pickup at 6pm. I showed up at 6 and there was a line of people inside and outside. All of us had also ordered and paid online, but none of our food was ready -- despite many of us having received texts messages saying our food was ready. I literally waited for 30 minutes to finally get my food, but even that wouldn't have been so bad, except that they were so incredibly disorganized, unapologetic, and borderline rude that it was utter confusion as people were trying to figure out what was going on. Given the pandemic, there were way too many people in the tiny indoor space (so I ended up waiting outside in the cold for all but the one minute I actually got my food), and they made no attempt whatsoever to control how many people were in there... which is maybe not surprising because the real kicker was that the two people behind the counter kept taking their masks down (for no reason, obviously, as there's no reason to do so) and leaving them off their noses and mouths while working and talking, which made a lot of folks very uncomfortable. Several of the other people there told me they usually order from KoChix and they'd never seen this happen before, and the lady behind the counter said they just happened to get a lot of orders tonight. So hopefully the lateness and the crowdedness was a one-time thing. But they definitely could've been way nicer and more organized -- and most importantly, they should have the decency and respect for their customers to follow covid protocols. read more

To say finding this place was a pleasant surprise would be an understatement, especially if you have a craving for wings and fries. The soy garlic flavor had the right amount of salt and the honey spicy was the right balance of sweet and heat. They have very limited seating (three stools and a countertop) so it's very much grab and go. I'd recommend ordering ahead if you can but if you're like me and order when you get there, the service is still fairly quick. I wish their fries were a little more salted, but the wings were nice and juicy. Definitely coming back to try their bulgogi. 9/10 would most likely go again! read more

Is it weird to compliment the fairness of the orders? A woman came in after me and explained she only wanted a small order and didn't have much time so she needed it to be fast. The gentleman in the front explained that it would still take x amount of minutes. The gentleman was very pleasant to chat with and all this praise is before even trying the chicken. The chicken is CRISPY! The double fry really makes a difference and the wings are generous in size. There really isn't much room to eat inside, but the small side countertop is fine for 3 maybe 4 top to use. We ordered KoChix on a Monday night when we were all too tired or lazy to actually go out and eat. We used Postmates which was actually surprisingly fast. We ordered in total 14 drumsticks, 20 wings, and a order of mozzarella sticks for four people. It was WAAAAY too much food. The wings were virtually untouched. It's a bit odd, if you specifically order drumsticks the drumsticks you get are huge (no complaints from me, just something to be aware of). When you order the wings, you'll get a mix of wings and drumsticks but the drumsticks are reasonably sized/smaller. We got the spicy honey and the soy garlic flavors, both were really good! I love this chicken. Like LOVE. The soy garlic is sweet, FYI. The spicy honey just has a little hear, and spicy honey has a little bit more kick, but nothing to stop you from being able to eat. It has a crunchy coating and a sticky glaze. It makes it so worth it and the five wings are a good value. The fries seem like they're just ore Ida out of the bag, and I've never had the Asian fare or the cheesesteaks because the chicken is just. That. Good. It's also walking distance from Howard University so I have way more access than my waistline prefers. But id rather walk there then any of the closer carry outs. I've ordered wings from KoChix three or four times now. I like KoChix more than BonChon but if you're looking to eat out, BonChon would be a better choice as Kochix is made for take out/delivery. They just have a couple stools in the restaurant and a counter to order from. I'd say this is one of the best take out places in DC. Ordered via Ubereats for the NFL Draft. Very very pleased with the size, quality, and unique taste. Wings are big and meaty - no filler or over breading. I was ready to discount them if they didn't travel well but they arrived hot and appetizing. Some delivery wings don't hold up because of styrofoam containers, but these are transported in a paper bag in a little tray covered with wax paper. Preserves the quality all the way to your door. The owner and staff are very polite and value your continued patronage to their hole-in-the-wall restaurant. 3. They're always fast: it's 10 minutes to prepare your food. No more, no less. Cons: 1. Not much variety in sauces - but again, the soy garlic wings are top notch. 2. A bit more expensive than other places (10 wings for a little over $14). Overall: For the wings that they offer, you can always rely on a consistent and tasty experience. Thank goodness this place was open on New Year's Day. My cousin wanted korean fried chicken and this place was open. When you walk in, it looks like a very tiny Chinese takeout restaurant, but it's got decent fried chicken. I've eaten Bonchon and Chi Mc a lot and prefer it. The chicken skin is fried evenly and the sauce is glazed on and fried. This felt more like the chicken was fried first and then coated with the sauce, allowing the skin to get soggy as we went through the wings. The fries, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings come out of a freezer, so nothing to write home about there. It hit the spot for my cousin and brother, but for me it was just alright. read more

Have to admit, I prefer bonchon. But kochix was still worth trying out. I haven't been to their storefront so my experience is limited to delivery. Pluses: the wings are more meaty here and the meat is slightly better quality for a cheaper price. The soy garlic flavor is my favorite here. Both the fries and the mandu are deep-fried crispy- tasty but heavy. Even reheated the wings retain their crispy tenderness and meatiness. Downsides: the wing sauces are too sticky sweet for my taste. The spicy isn't very spicy at all - the cloying sweet kinda ruins the flavor for me. They charge extra for small containers of ranch or blue cheese. Also, their delivery materials were less than ideal (mandu and fries were in paper bags that did not hold in the grease at all). While this use to be one of my favorite go-to Carry Out places, a travesty has been committed. No, no one got murdered in a Russian/DNC plot for the 2016 election. But a grave injustice was done none the less. Before yesterday, every time I've ordered from KoChix, either in person at their location on Florida Ave or via Caviar delivery in my neighborhood, the wings and sides came perfectly. For me that means the wings were crispy and deliciously coated in sauce. The fries were crunchy in that way you can't get from any grocery store bag, even if you have a big deep fryer. The food was always served in containers that breathe, yet keep your food hot. However, last night the murderer was identified. And I assume it must have been the chef, in the kitchen, with the butcher knife. My order was delivered in a waxed cardboard box that steamed my wings and the fries were lobotomized and left with no crunchy coating. Translation, things have changed. What good wing place allows delivery of their product in a container that will make your food soggy? And what good fry chef serves up basic fare fries that are limp and mushy? I will morn the loss of my bar food friend and curse the management/murderer on what they have wrought. read more
