First I will say, the guy at the register tonight is what made this 5 stars. He made this place the total package. The food was absolutely great! We got a cheeseburger sub and wings and drumsticks half soy garlic and half honey spicy. We liked them both for different reasons, but there was a lot of sugar on the honey spicy. I'm not complaining, but if you won't like sweet and spicy than you won't like those. The guy gave us suggestions on how much to order and took the time to explain everything to us. I only ate the wings but my boyfriend said it was the best cheeseburger sub he's ever had. I can't wait to come back to this place. Everything makes me want to support it. Really nice people, great food, help the local economy, I can't say enough good things. This place is really takeout only but there are 3 bar stools to sit. Can't say enough good things....I still can't decide between the legs or the drumsticks. There was so much meat on the drumsticks oh my gosh...and did I mention their prices are insane. I feel like a number of my reviews have referenced "hidden treasures of DC" but this the ultimate hidden treasure of DC, mainly the Bloomingdale/Shaw area of DC. So, I recently discovered Korean BBQ and more specifically Korean BBQ chicken about 4-5 months ago. Someone told me about a place where the chicken is double-breaded, fried, coated with a delicious bbq garlic sauce and served simply. He told me this place was called KoChix and I would have to check it out. After taking a long break from eating poor food, I had surgery and had to recover. I needed something that was delicious, close by and could deliver. With the help of the delivery service Caviar, I was able to receive my first order. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! This place is so effing good. I ordered the Soy Garlic and the Honey Spicy and when I say I crushed the entire entrée in one sitting, take my word for it. It was incredible. The honey spicy was never too spicy and complimented the sauce so well. Every bite was amazing. On top of that, I had the bulgogi bap and the meat was so juicy and succulent. I couldn't believe that this place was right on my front doorstep. I am so impressed with this establishment. It is not a place for you to sit down and eat. You get your food, return to the confines of your home, prepare a plate and go to town. You have "stingy only for me" choices and you have "everyone can share-take your pick" options. Recommendations: there are only two GET THE CHICKEN GET THE CHICKEN GET THE CHICKEN: It really doesn't matter what flavor you get. It doesn't matter how many you get. I'd argue that the wings here are the top korean fried chicken wings I've had, and way better than that of Bonchon. The wings were big, crunchy, flavorful on the outside, and juicy on the inside. You can't go wrong with the soy garlic or honey spicy, but I'd give the edge to honey spicy. I haven't read a lot of people mention them, but I even thought the onion rings were top notch. One tip here is to call ahead. If ordering in person, be prepared to wait a bit as they always have a high volume of customers, and most are just coming in to pick up. read more

We have been going to KoChix for a few years and were always delighted to get their delicious wings. BUT, tonight was very different. The wings were still scrumptious, however on my second piece my mouth hit something and I pulled at it. It was almost 2 inches long and thin, a bit like hair. I recoiled and made some sort of guttural sound that got my husbands attention. I was almost frozen as I showed him. He said "oh no, that looks like a rat whisker." Some may have different methods in frying them up - or they change their oil more, or less - but they are the same wings. Cisco must put crack cocaine up in there, because for the most part they taste good to me. But, there are a few restaurants that stand out. Those who dare not tread the beaten path. Those who dance by the beat of their own drum. Those who are not happy to be "just another Cisco wing". I tip my hat to you brave restaurateurs who leave the norm behind. KoChix is one of those operations. While not traditional buffalo sauce, the three sauce options are all very tasty. Dem wangs are double fried or sumthin' 'cause you ain't eatin' that thing in one, or even two bites. You gotta work on it. Take your time. Savor the flavor. Enjoy the mess. I went in with a friend to pick up wings. When I walked in, a man reached out to shake my hand, saying they had been waiting for me. I assumed he worked for the establishment and they had been waiting for me to pick up my wings. Unfortunately, when he let go I saw there was blood on my hand from blood being on his. He had blood running down his nose too. He explained that he had been beat up randomly and that he just wanted enough money to afford some food and to go to a clinic. The staff not only did nothing about this man disrupting their restaurant, but they refused to let me use their bathroom to wash my hand. That man was right next to the counter, and the staff seemed totally okay with this. I found it totally unprofessional, dirty, and inconsiderate to customers. I wish that man who got beat up the best, but I still cannot believe Kochix was okay with letting him try to shake every customer's hand. For that, I give it one star, because even if these were the best wings in DC (they are not) it wouldnt be worth an experience like that. I decided to visit KoChix today around 1pm for lunch, I ordered the BULGOGI and 10 Pc. Soy Garlic chicken wings which cost around $20. The food is pretty expensive but worth every dollar. Everything was cooked just right and the workers are very pleasant. So after stalking Yelp for a new food place to try in the area, I stumbled across KoChix. After reading all of the amazing reviews, I decided that I had to check it out myself. Two days ago I finally went and per Yelp reviews, I ordered the 5-piece wings (2 Soy Garlic & 3 Honey Spicy) and I also ordered mozzarella sticks. When I walked inside, I was greeted promptly and had the wing sauces described to me by the nice cashier. He took my order then told me that it would be about a 10-15 minute wait. I spent the wait sitting at the very small counter that had 3 stools and read some of the articles/blog posts about KoChix that were plastered all across the walls basically saying how amazing the wings were. Long story short, I received the wings and waited until I got home to open the bag and check them out. After the first bite I realized what everyone had been raving about. These wings were AWESOME! Perfectly crispy.. seriously, PERFECT. I liked Soy Garlic better than the Honey Spicy but both were good. Only con is that there's no parking. I just parked at the gas station directly across the street and walked over. The wings make up for the lack of parking anyway, this is more of a heads up than a con. At last, a Korean fried chicken place in downtown DC. While it is no BonChon, I would argue that its chicken is much better in almost every way than BonChon's. It's crispier and the spicy sauce is wet, as opposed to Bonchon's dry sauce, which makes it even more flavorful. Plus, it is cheaper than BonChon and doesn't require going out to MD or VA to get some. The one minor downside is the location, as it is located in a yet-to-be gentrified neighborhood in NW DC and the place itself is geared towards only being take-out. Honestly its shocking I dont eat Kochix more, considering it's about a 3 minute walk from my house. Still highly addictive perfectly cooked wings. They have a limited selection, but what they have they do it well. Glad to see them still busy during the lunch rush and doing it the same as day 1. The fries are crazy delicious and the wings are awesomely cooked and flavored. They are huge! I actually wished they were a bit smaller as bigger wings tend to also have bigger vessels and "non-muscle" parts that freak me out a bit. I found this place while driving past it the other night. It sits on a remote corner of Florida ave. I say "remote" because there is not a lot of parking nearby, but I did get lucky because it was a Sunday night and got a parking spot right on the corner. This place is more of a carry-out type of joint, as there is only one table and two chairs for dining in. So don't expect to bring your friends for a night of singing "Kumbaya" and having drinks. Their main dish is Korean fried chicken and it comes in two flavors; Soy Garlic and Honey Spicy. Both are pretty tasty and cooked fresh to order. You can also order drumsticks if you wish. The wait time is about half that of the other Korean Chicken place that most of us know across the Potomac in Annandale. The wing sizes themselves are pretty huge. Me thinks they are supplied by that company that grows a full blown chicken in six weeks. But, what do I know? Anyway, if that's the case...thank God/Allah/Buddha/Zeus for growth hormones! The other Korean selections are Bibimbap and Bulgogi Bap. Bibimbap is a rice bowl with finely sliced vegetables. Bulgogi is marinated thin slices of beef. Other than that, you can order a a Philly Cheesesteak, Burger, Fried fish, Fried Shrimp or a combination of both. All with a side of fries. Then again I have high standards from 4 years of living in NYC w/ K-town fried chicken. However, my 2nd time ordering here was much improved. I ordered the combo fried chicken with 1/2 soy garlic 1/2 spicy honey. The spicy ones aren't that spicy compared to BonChon so I ended up supplementing it w/ additional Korean red pepper powder. The skin was crispy however. The drumsticks/wings are huge with lots of meat. One drawback is the lack of complementary radishes that is common in Bonchon. The place is best for carry-out but quick parking is difficult due to its corner location and the lack of spaces on Florida Ave . Best place to park is probably Richardson Pl and 4th street.
