I have eaten here twice. I was not on Yelp either time I ate at this establishment. The last time was for lunch on 06/26/2026. My husband, myself, my MIL,& my SIL were on our way to Colorado. All three of them had the "Lunch Special ". I believe it was chicken fried steak with your choice of two sides. I had a grilled cheese sandwich which was yummy, but I was waiting for dessert. The waitress smiled knowingly when I said that. The restaurant was packed, but the wait staff was friendly and efficient. The rolls were to die for. But Omg the pies were wonderful. I had my fave Chocolate Meringue it was Devine, almost put me into a chocolate coma..lol. It reminded me of my grandmothers. My MIL & SIL had the Coconut Cream and said it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was seasoned so I'd say above average. The portion was large. But the cheese seemed canned. No peppers or onions. No sour cream, salsa, or guacamole. Patty melt was ok. Meat was a little chewey and bread was toasted but not flavorful. I will say that if you want pie. I watched a dozen carry out orders. Also admitted one of tallest meringues I've ever seen. We just weren't in mood for pie. Service was ok. My water was empty for about 1/4 of my meal. They were it overwhelmed and had numerous empty tables. She was very friendly fly though. Never thought we would find such a delightful and quaint restaurant on our way, to or from, the Granbury/Fort Worth area via 281 in the heart of Hico, TX. The food here was excellent and the service was spot on. I had a ribeye steak and my wife had a burger. Both were good. Our server, Jennifer, provided excellent service. The place is quaint but gives vibes of an old time ranch kitchen. They are known for their pie variety. We had the chocolate pie and it was delicious in flavor and texture. If you're driving north, or South on 281 and pass through Hico, TX, make sure you stop here. read more

We stopped by for lunch on a road trip, but we had low expectations after reading recent reviews. Upon arriving, the place was packed, and it was just after 12:30pm on a Sunday. The options were searing were limited...only a couple of tables open, and the staff was running around like they were on strict deadlines, and at least 3 servers made eye contact with us and said nothing as we stood there waiting. Finally our server saw us and told us where we could sit. I couldn't sit in the chair I wanted, because enormous ketchup-soaked French fries were scattered along the floor where the other chair was, so I just sat where the floor was clean(er.) I went to the restroom to wash my hands and began to question my choices. Let's just say they aren't putting a lot of TLC into that. The food was okay. My hubby got the chicken fried steak and said it was pretty tasty. He didn't love the broccoli side, but said the onion rings were good. I opted for a club sandwich, and it was good. I also upgraded to cheese fries for my side, and they were delicious. Probably the best thing I tried. We were told we had to order pie- so we went with the blueberry banana based on our server's recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised at how well those flavors worked. Overall- the food was good. Simply put, this place is a hard no unless you're into literal greasy spoons. We stopped by because my husband loves old pie diners and we'd been here many years before. The pie reminded him of a frozen pie from the grocers, definitely not reminiscent of anything homemade. I ordered some fries, that oddly tasted of both old grease and freezer burn. I've driven by the Koffee Kup for years and the parking lot is always full. Everyone talks about how good it is too. We met family there for lunch. It was packed when we got there but a booth was open. It would be helpful if they had a sign that said "seat yourself". It is like a typical Texas diner inside. We all had chicken fried steak. We all agreed it was good but not the best we'd ever had. I thought it was sort of bland. We got pie - chocolate, reeses's, and buttermilk. Again, they were good but not great. I'm disappointed. We had talked about eating at the Koffee Kup for years and when we finally did it was sort of a let down. I'd still eat there, just put some salt and pepper on the CFS. read more

We both ordered different burgers and as we were waiting i saw multiple people ask for a check and have almost full plates. I've never had food that was so bland in my life. Hospital food has more flavor. All the food was lukewarm at best. Onion rings were almost inedible being they were so chewy. I didn't even bother with pie because it couldn't be good as bad as the food was. When i went to pay there was a lady checking out before me the older lady rang her up she paid and then the older lady turned around and started cutting pies. I used to really enjoy this place back when it was the "Koffee Kup Kafe." It is still the same convenient location with that small-town atmosphere, but in my opinion it has gone downhill. Both breakfast and lunch used to be good, especially the chicken fried steak and burgers, but unfortunately it has changed. The hamburger bun was thick, overly sweet, and had an off flavor that was not very appetizing. The chicken fried steak was very tough. The pies also feel overpriced at $6 a slice, and the filling tasted more processed than homemade. Based on my recent experience, I no longer recommend going here. read more

Stood for ten minutes while multiple waitresses and "hostesses" walked directly past me (within 2 feet) and ignored me although it was clear I was waiting to be sat. If you charge it you better know what it's for. Turns out that crap fee is for a credit card reimbursement, a pass through! Put on there whether I'm paying cash or credit card. On the way back to SpringTown, my cousin decided to treat us to some pie. The parking lot is spacious for this cozy locals spot. Upon entrance, I was not greeted, but, in all fairness, I had to run to the ladies' room. It was a long drive. By the time I finished pee'ing, cousin had gotten the pie and already was sitting in the A/C. I wanted to take some pics inside, but there were too many people in there. I ended up eating two pieces of the pie. Was it great? No. Do I compare it to anything from Julian, CA? No. Was it good? Yes, I enjoyed it. Especially the cinnamon sugar crust. Great place for home cooking. My wife had the BLT and a salad. I had the chicken fried chicken with onion rings. We thought we could handle the fried pickles but we had to take the rest with us. He had a side salad, which was "the best part of the meal," in his words. It was some iceberg lettuce, a few diced tomatoes, and blue cheese dressing. We shared a plate of "nachos." It was actually some chips, some hamburger meat with a little taco sauce, and canned cheese. Jalapeños were $0.79 extra. My husband, who was in food service for 20 years commented that "nothing much in this place is fresh - it all comes from a can." Probably my worst restaurant experience ever. How bad was it? I ordered fried fish with onion rings. The food portions were very small. I received three pieces of fish. I estimate each piece of fish to be appx 1.5 inches wide, 4-5 inches long and thin. Only three somewhat large onion rings were included. I took my first bite of fish and the food was slightly warm. I took a bite from a second piece - it was cold. The onion rings were somewhat warm. I finally got the attention of my waitress after 10 minutes and sent the food back. She returned in less than 5 minutes. She brought back the same food I had returned. She tried warming up the food - but it was not hot. I told her this was unacceptable and she brought me a fresh order, without speaking. I could hear someone from the kitchen yell "no more fish today." The replacement fish was somewhat warm, but certainly not as hot as one would expect. How long had this fish been sitting in a tray under a heat lamp? The replacement fish pieces were equally as small as the original order. The waitress never apologized. In defense of my waitress, she was covering almost half of the restaurant while 3 or 4 other waitresses were working the remaining area. My waitress was speed walking to cover her area. She had too large of an area for one waitress to cover. The other waitresses moved incredibly slow. I was seated near the cashier. I noticed a long line of people waiting to pay. I estimate that cashier took about 5 minutes for each customer - how is this possible? Never again. read more

In this cafe the customer is not always right. I've been eating at the Koffee Kup for over 40 years and I was shocked at the terrible hospitality I received during my most recent stop. I eat a very restrictive diet but I ask only for simple things and never ask anyone to bend over backwards for me but even a simple request was too much for this cafe. I ordered the 12oz ribeye, which is always what I get. For sides I asked if I could get 4 eggs over easy because I don't eat any vegetables or grains. Every cafe or restaurant I've eaten at has always accommodated me in that request but not the Kup. The server took my order but came back later and said they aren't serving breakfast anymore since it was afternoon. I didn't ask for breakfas, just a few eggs with my steak. Oh well, no big deal. She then informs me that they are out of 12 oz ribeyes. Who isn't fully stocked on a Friday? So I then ask for two 8 oz ribeyes since just one is not enough food for me and since I have to order two, because they don't have the bigger steak that's on their menu, I ask if it could be ala cart? The server leaves but comes back in a few minutes and says that she has to charge me the full price for two meals even though I'm not getting any sides. I then tell her I'm willing to compromise and pay full price for one meal but would like to buy the second steak ala cart since it's their fault that I can't get the steak I originally ordered. She goes back and talks to the owner who refuses my request. The owner didn't even have the decency to come talk to me herself but made the poor server do all of this. Well we could see that they didn't want our business so me and my party of 6 got up and left. They could have made a pretty good bit of money off of us that day and the server would have gotten a very nice tip but the Koffee Kup's owner chose to be uncompromising and serve no hospitality. Ommggg!!! I am sooooo full!!! This place is fantastic. We were driving through and decided to stop for breakfast. It was definitely hopping inside. Almost full. We got a seat and got our drinks. We looked at the menu and I said dang this is cheap! So I ordered 2 eggs over medium, bacon and hash browns extra crispy a biscuit and 2 pancakes. Yes there was about a 20-30 minute wait to get our food, but it was darn worth every minute. Our waitress made sure our coffee was kept full while we waited. When our plates came out we were overwhelmed. The pancakes took up over half a plate each. The eggs were cooked to order and the hash browns which took up half my plate were very crispy. Bacon.... Wow 4 huge pieces of bacon that was very crispy. My biscuit that I ordered also came with country gravy. There was no way I was going to be able to eat all of this , but I gave it a good try. All of this for 9.99$ what a bargain! This place is very casual and not loud at all. They have extra seating in the back. If you want to get a piece of pie (which they are famous for) or a ginormous donut or Apple fritter then I recommend sharing your food. The meringue is like 3 inches high. Definitely a five star. We couldn't help but laugh at some of the negative reviews, so many people with unrealistic expectations of a diner in a small town. We decided to check it out for ourselves.... It is definitely a small town restaurant. The decor is what you would expect for small town Texas, we loved it. It was clean and the employees were very friendly. We both ordered hamburgers, one with fries and one with onion rings. Both cooked exactly as we asked and tasted great! The onion rings are the best! We also had one chocolate meringue pie and one "The Doctor's Office", both great! If you are looking for a 5 star "city slicker" farm to table dining experience while on a road trip in small town Texas, this probably isn't the place for you. But, if you are looking for good down home cooking, great decor and friendly service... give it a try! read more

This place was buzzing when I walked in and stood in line to buy pie to go. I blocked a table of people and some nice servers, and everyone was pretty chill. I originally planned to get 5 slices of pie, but the cashier said getting 6 was cheaper, so 6 it was! I got chocolate meringue, coconut cream, peanut butter meringue, doctor's office, pecan, and reeses pieces. I put the box of pie slices into my Yeti with lots of ice packs. The meringue was mile high and this pie box rode with me from Hico to Austin later that afternoon. My friends in Austin, Eric R., and I enjoyed trying all of the pies. My favorite was doctor's office, graham cracker crust with cream cheese and vanilla custard filling, topped with toasted coconut and pecans. My mother-in-law had even had this pie and I had never heard of Hico before I came here for Eric R.'s bike race, even though I am a Texan. Worth a stop for pie! read more
