Patty melt (so so) Fries were good (despite my ketchup accident).
    Dan W.

Stopped along the way to Austin. Family had a party melt, chicken nachos, and a burger. The burger was ok. A little too thick of bun for my taste (too rollish too). Nachos were disappointing. The chicken was seasoned so I'd say above average. The portion was large. But the cheese seemed canned. No peppers or onions. No sour cream, salsa, or guacamole. Patty melt was ok. Meat was a little chewey and bread was toasted but not flavorful. I will say that if you want pie. I watched a dozen carry out orders. Also admitted one of tallest meringues I've ever seen. We just weren't in mood for pie. Service was ok. My water was empty for about 1/4 of my meal. They were it overwhelmed and had numerous empty tables. She was very friendly fly though. Ambiance is a charming little roadside cafe. Lots of neat salt and pepper shakers in a display case on the wall. Parking was not difficult but certainly more difficult that average. Looked like a popular chocolate place was next door.

Never thought we would find such a delightful and quaint restaurant on our way, to or from, the Granbury/Fort Worth area via 281 in the heart of Hico, TX. The food here was excellent and the service was spot on. I had a ribeye steak and my wife had a burger. Both were good. Our server, Jennifer, provided excellent service. The place is quaint but gives vibes of an old time ranch kitchen. They are known for their pie variety. We had the chocolate pie and it was delicious in flavor and texture. If you're driving north, or South on 281 and pass through Hico, TX, make sure you stop here.

We stopped by for lunch on a road trip, but we had low expectations after reading recent reviews. Upon arriving, the place was packed, and it was just after 12:30pm on a Sunday. The options were searing were limited...only a couple of tables open, and the staff was running around like they were on strict deadlines, and at least 3 servers made eye contact with us and said nothing as we stood there waiting. Finally our server saw us and told us where we could sit. I couldn't sit in the chair I wanted, because enormous ketchup-soaked French fries were scattered along the floor where the other chair was, so I just sat where the floor was clean(er.) I went to the restroom to wash my hands and began to question my choices. Let's just say they aren't putting a lot of TLC into that. The food was okay. My hubby got the chicken fried steak and said it was pretty tasty. He didn't love the broccoli side, but said the onion rings were good. I opted for a club sandwich, and it was good. I also upgraded to cheese fries for my side, and they were delicious. Probably the best thing I tried. We were told we had to order pie- so we went with the blueberry banana based on our server's recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised at how well those flavors worked. Overall- the food was good. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the lack of cleanliness and the attitude of the staff. They were super friendly to regulars - but as tourists, we were definitely out of place. Not sure I'd come back...

Busy, local restaurant that's busy in the morning. Lots of fresh baked pies too! Nothing special with the interior. It's all business here. Staff is fast and efficient. Were told by locals to not miss the fresh donut. It was ok, not my cup of donut. Big, but more cake like than fried dough. Biscuit and gravy was tasty. Biscuit is fresh and flaky. Eggs, sausage, and hash browns were standard.

Just stopped in for pie in the afternoon and ended up with Black Forest and key lime. Service was fantastic! Will absolutely go back for a meal.

Good food, good service but the hidden fee found at checkout?? The restaurant is cute, the wait staff was nice and prompt and quick to make sure everything was good. We did not have a piece of pie, (found out later how famous it was supposed to be). One of the better chicken fried steaks I have had in a while. Not the best but darn close. Now to my problem. I will state I did not read every part of a big 3 1/2 page menu, I might have missed it but anyway I don't like "HIDDEN" fees. Trust me it wasn't the $0.85! Eighty five cents. It's on the check though. They evidently charge everyone this fee. And it's CRAP. They told me at first, that she didn't know what it was or what it's for. Again CRAP. If you charge it you better know what it's for. Turns out that crap fee is for a credit card reimbursement, a pass through! Put on there whether I'm paying cash or credit card. That's the kicker, if I'm paying cash it should not have a CC fee. Much less the surprise!! Don't go. I won't

On the way back to SpringTown, my cousin decided to treat us to some pie. The parking lot is spacious for this cozy locals spot. Upon entrance, I was not greeted, but, in all fairness, I had to run to the ladies' room. It was a long drive. By the time I finished pee'ing, cousin had gotten the pie and already was sitting in the A/C. I wanted to take some pics inside, but there were too many people in there. I ended up eating two pieces of the pie. Was it great? No. Do I compare it to anything from Julian, CA? No. Was it good? Yes, I enjoyed it. Especially the cinnamon sugar crust. That was different.

It's right next door to where the address on the Yelp Page will take you, but it is formerly the "Bakeshop." The staff mentioned to us the former building/house was being renovated to become an AirBnB or something. We were looking forward to patio seating given we had our pup with us, but the restaurant didn't have any, so we opted for drive-thru. The restaurant itself has a small parking lot. The woman who took our order was very kind and informative, as mentioned previously. I ordered an "Iced Latte with White Chocolate" and ordered the "Breakfast Burrito," which contained sausage, scrambled eggs, and cheese. The latte was good, creamy and sweet with the WC flavoring. The burrito was also good, not amazing, but good! I should have ordered 2 of them, it wasn't too big, so keep that in mind. The cheese was melted inside and the sausage was super flavorful. There was a section of my burrito in which the sausage was actually cold, which took me by surprise, but other than that it was good. Pricing was decent for what we ordered. We would come back if we were driving through again!!

The menu here is not expansive but it offers a very nice selection of tantalizing dishes. We opted for the fried chicken tacos. Being old timers with small appetites we customarily share an entree, but when I learned that an order consists of two, not the customary three tacos, I ordered a plate for each of us. Big mistake! Hahaha. These tacos are humongous! I'm afraid I totally failed to fulfill my duties as a responsible Yelper and take a photo of the presented plate. Attached is a pic of one, but the pic does not adequately provide for you a sense of the taco's actual size. We each had to work to finish one each. This creation is a work of taco art. A taco masterpiece. The tortilla appears to be house-made. The large pieces of chicken breast, perfectly seasoned and breaded; and crisply fried rest on a bed of some of the tastiest cole slaw ever. The fried chicken is then topped with a couple sauces that sing with the chicken and finished with house made hot honey. This taco is worth the drive to Hico from FTW for lunch. Service was once again very pleasant and attentive. And as I think I said in my previous review, Owners/Chefs Austin and Shannon have done a wonderful job of curating a welcoming, warm and authentic ambiance in this historic building.

Okay, I have never graded a restaurant on their cleanliness but here we go…read more Yes, we did eat here today and it was frightening honestly. We walked in and over to a booth... the table appeared clean but the seats had food left in them for ... well I'm not sure how long. Moved to another booth that the guy way "wiping down" with a wet dirty rag and no cleaner. Yes, I am aware that some restaurants soak towels for this purpose, but I promise this was not the case. He did not wipe down the seats, but the food on the seat was to my right and there really was no other option, since all the chairs at the tables had hand prints on the top of the chairs and black dirt on the legs of the chairs. I informed the waitress that she might want to remind her bus boy that he should wipe down the seats. She apologized and I hope she passed on the information. While sitting there, I became more uncomfortable. Food on the walls. Air vents were black, like the AC filter has never been changed. I observed people behind the counter on an "ice rink of grease" sliding all around. The floors in the restaurant haven't been cleaned in days. It was 10 am, no way could they look like that from just a few hours. The grill has not been cleaned in well, it's been a while.... See photos, the aluminum wall guard was swiped at. But the controls on the grill were just nasty Waitresses were eating and drinking behind the counter, in front of customers. I didn't get to the restrooms, but if they are anything like the rest of the restaurant..... Coffee was as far as I wanted to go here. But my mom wanted to eat. So we ordered a burger and a steak sandwich. 40.00 plus tip. Food was subpar. Does were cold. Burger was not great. Mom liked her steak sandwich. Would I recommend this place. Absolutely NOT. We will not be going back. A giant waste of money.
